Universal's Loews Portofino Bay Hotel - Orlando 28.4802, -81.46401

This could have been a great stay, but some issues caused it not to be. The property is amazing, our bay view was beautiful, and we loved the river boat to universal. However we checked in and our room smelled like someone was smoking in the room and there was trash outside our door (looked like room service stuff.) Per the bell hop's suggestion we turned on the air to see if it would air out. Well it didn't. We got up in the morning (trash still outside our room.) We left a note with room service (along with a tip,) asking them if they could spry something or do something to help with the smell. We got back that evening and the tip was gone but the smell was still there. As we checked out they tried to charge us for stuff that we never used (in fact the fridge was in a locked cabinet so we couldn't even if we wanted to. We were told that room service found wrappers and assumed that we took them from them from the hotel. In summary the grounds and atmosphere was wonderful but sometimes a few small things can ruin everything.

This hotel offers great surprises for couples with a secluded jacazzi with waterfalls and pool with fun slide. Watch the sunset from the court yard and then go to City Walk for the entertainment.

Not at all accomadating for the handicapped. Very understaffed. Room service charges $4.50 for a can of soda. And the only reason we ordered room service is because half their restaurants were closed. They closed the pools early. The bars had one bartender and a mile long line. Beyond all of this, the hotel and pools were beautiful. We didn't let this ruin our time.

our 2 day experience was fantastic. the hotel is located in a great spot, universal and island of adventure are a short boat ride away. the outlets are a 5 minute drive with traffic. the hotel offers excellent food, a great work out and spa facility. the beds are really comfortable. the hotel staff was very friendly. try to get a room that faces the water, not the pools. it is truly a great "italian" experience. also, try to get outdoors at night and enjoy the live music and scenery around the hotel.

This hotel is one of the nicest we have stayed at with our kids (12 and 14yrs). Deluxe room had 2 queens and a small pull-out; this was perfect for us because we usually have to pay for a suite with a girl and boy teenagers. Food on property was excellent (try the pasta bar). Pricey, but isn't everything in the Disney area? Pool was nice; we walked over to Hard Rock and checked out their pool as well. Fun place. Took free water taxi to Park and to Citiwalk, 10 minute ride. This hotel was so beautiful and relaxing. I would recommend it to anyone, especially if you go to a Universal park. The express pass was awesome. Got through the park in 2 hours with 5-10 minute wait on rides on Labor Day weekend!

Perfect hotel for families who enjoy the parks but want some grown up down time after. I visited with my seven year old daughter on the recommendation of a friend. We enjoyed our stay at the Portofino much more the Grand Floridian, Polynesian, or the Nickelodeon. Each of those hotels offered little entertainment or meal choices in the evenings. The Portofino offered plenty to see and do right on the premises. It was extremely clean and the staff was very helpful. We reserved a club level room which was terrific. Access to the parks and City Walk was easy and fun. The ferry boats arrived like clock work every 15 minutes. The pool was open late so one evening played on the water slide until 9:30pm and then we went up and ordered room service. I will definitely return with my family. Nice large room facing beach pool was great - enjoyed the nightly Universal fireworks right from our window.

I was really excited to stay at this hotel, but in the end, I was severely disappointed by the Portofino. First off, we paid a higher rate for a "Bay View" hotel room. Instead, we got a room with a view of trees directly out our window. Second, we were put in the furthest away room, It was 900 feet of walking to get to the lobby! (I measured it using Google Earth). And over 1200 feet of walking to get to the water slide. Third, we had to wait 50 minutes PAST the official "checkin" time of 4pm to get our hotel room. It was NOT fun sitting and waiting with anxious kids. Fourth, our toilet wouldn't flush. We had to manually pull the lid off the tank and flush it ourselves. Fifth, we received no bill under the door at night, and we were unable to checkout through the TV. So, we had to wait 25 minutes in the lobby to checkout. Sixth, I really don't appreciate having to pay over $15 for parking at an expensive hotel. I feel like I was nickel-and-dimed to death. I was really shocked at the absolute lack of quality and professionalism I was expecting to get from such a high-rated and expensive hotel. I'll never stay here again!

I was so disappointed in this hotel. My "delux" bayview King room was nothing special at all. Everything about this place was average, or less than average! My room was very expensive and it had water damage in the ceiling, a TINY little bathtub, wallpaper border that tried to look like crown molding, stained carpet, old bedding, and was rather small. No fridge, no microwave. Absolutely NOTHING special about this place at all. It should cost a forth of the price for what we got. EXTREMELY disappointing!!

No complaints. Beautiful hotel! Definitely will stay again in the future.

The room/bathroom was clean and looked updated. However, garbage was left in the bathroom wastebasket from a previous guest. We thought the charge for a bottled water in the room was ridiculous. We spent the day at the pool which was just OK, too many kids. Definitely go for the Villa pool area. The pool furniture looked old and dirty, some of the chairs were ripped. The pool towels should be larger, they just covered half of the lounge chair. Service at the pool was not consistent.

We have stayed at the hotel before and it was very obvious they had trimmed their staff. The lack of staff at the front desk, valet parking, room service, pool food service and phone operator was very obvious and made getting things accomplished much more challenging. It was disappointing to experience the hotel with less staff but at the same room price. If they are going to reduce the level of service it would be nice to lower the nightly price. But, it is still a great place to stay. It's quiet, close to all the action, the rooms are large and comfortable, the beds are amazing and the staff is very kind and well trained. When I go to Orlando I will continue to stay at the Portofino Bay Hotel!

The Portofino Bay Hotel was beautiful! Me, my husband,a nd my 2 children thoroughly enjoyed our 3 night stay. The food was great. The hotel was gorgeous and well maintained. The kids loved the pool and the Canon Ball contest. The location was relaxing and very easy and convenient with the water taxi. The best part was that our room keys were express passes. Made our time at Universal Studios well worth the $ for the hotel. We would stay there again on our next visit. Also, thank you to William at the front desk for the help with our airport check in :)

Portofino in Universal's Orlando is a great hotel it is quit expensive, but you get what you pay for.

Absolutely beatiful hotel. But with that said don't think getting to your room is convenient. Believe me, between going into outside courtyards (which are large and in the evening may host guests and parties) down endless hallways the trip to your room can seem like an endless feat. By the time you get there, please make sure you have left nothing in your vehicle. Otherwise the trek back is quite tiresome. Large Bathrooms with lackluster water pressure, but roomy nontheless. Comfortable beds and we had a great view of the mini bay area. The water taxi to other attractions was convenient considering the parking/valet costs. So park for good if possible.

I can not say enough about our stay at the Portifino, Everything exceeded my expectations, the room was beautiful with 2 queen beds (most hotels offer FULL size) and a twin pull out, we were very comfortable-( 4 people )the bathroom was nice size, very clean. The food was very good we ate at every restaurant there and everything was delicious. The staff was exceptional. We will be back for sure!!

We enjoyed the quiet evenings spent at this hotel. Upgrading to club level was a good deal for us. We loved having the fast pass at the parks.

The service in this hotel is superior to any other hotel in the area. So much that we decided that from now on we will stay at Portofino Bay Hotel and travel to all parks from there.They are simply THE BEST in service.

We stayed at this hotel for a few days in early November--a great time to go to Universal, since the crowds are not too congested. Staying on Universal property was ideal, because we were able to use our Express passes throughout both parks. The spa is very relaxing and the resort is over-the-top. I highly recommend this hotel.

We stayed at the Portofino Bay Hotel for one night in mid-October and wished we could have stayed longer. The staff were extremely helpful, the location is perfect for Universal Studios and other central Florida attractions, and the King Room we had was well appointed with a huge bathroom. We ate on site at the Bice restaurant and thoroughly enjoyed the meal and the service. The Thirsty Fish pub was also great fun with live music and table service. We would definitely recommend this hotel and hope to return in future.

We love this hotel (our third stay n four years). It is well-managed and very true to its concept. The only complaint we have is the cost of food which is still in line with the rest of the nearby Universal restaurants.

The shower was built into the corner of bathroom at an angle and was not very big. The tub did not have a shower head option, if your were only showing you were doing it in the cramped corner. The bathroom exhaust fan did not work, bulbs in bathroom were blown out, and the sink drain was closed and did not operate.

Spacious club level room with convenient access to extras (i.e. breakfast, cold beverages and snacks) was well worth the upgrade! I would highly recommend for a stress-free get away.

Service was the best

Although we booked last minute and were only able to spend one night at the Portofino Bay Hotel, it is surely one we will consider if we ever return to the area. Majestic lobby area with superb staff...Michel was able to accommodate our request for a certain room on check in. We appreciated the patio after driving for several hours! Pool area was gorgeous, azaleas blooming all over, lots of greenery. We will rent a cabana if we return. Food was very good. We used room service and were quite happy with the food and the speed of delivery.

The staff was outstanding. Very helpful and willing to provide great service. The hotel was immaculate and the room was very comfortable.

The hotel was an excellent piece of italian village from the restaurant to the decor. Great view from the bay view room and excellent pool and hot tub. Will go back again. Recommended!

This hotel was truly the best hotel we have ever stayed in. It was nice to go somewhere we customer service was the way it should be. The people were nice and friendly. The food was great and the detail to service is outstanding! We have not got away in a while, so this was more than expected. The next time we go to Orlando, we will stay at the Portifino.

Stayed 4 nights on a business trip. Room was comfortable and clean, but that is the only good thing I can say. Hotel service was terrible no matter what you needed you were completely ingnored. This hotel might be OK if your a family visiting one of the parks, but even then get ready for a hotel staff that ingores you and some of the worst food you have ever had....

Get at least one room on the "club level." Lovely breakfast, drinks all day, wonderful appetizers at dinner time, and sweets at nights were well worth the extra money.
