Having stayed in different rooms on separate occasions in this hotel, I noticed that the quality does vary. Some rooms have been refurbished and are lovely, others are in need of modernisation. The Internet works perfectly on some floors and not at all on others. Some rooms face the road and are quite noisy, others face the courtyard and are very quiet. […] The service was very good every time and the rates were very reasonable. The price of thi hotel, while one of the cheapest in the centre of Nottigham, does not reflect what you actually get for your money. 5 channels on an ancient television, go games console or DVD player as advertised. The bin in our room had not been emptied and we had half a toilet roll. The hotel reception looks more like a run down hospital rather […] than a hotel. Even for 3 stars this hotel falls short. Mehr

The Hotel Location has got full marks. The rooms were clean. The only disappointment that I faced was that everything mentioned that would be present in the room was not. And I even had to call the room service once for something and no-one came till a long time unless I had to re inform them about the issue.

Very basic hotel - you get what you pay for. Only needed 1 night business stop over and for that it did the job. All room amenities available (tea/coffee making facilities, tv, wi-fi, hairdryer) but just overly clean (hair in the bath, carpet needed good hoover, bed not properly made) . Great hotel, very impressed for the price. Only spoiled by frequent noise from the drunken weekend revellers.

This hotel was impossible to find at midnight when you dont know the area. I drove round and round and eventually stayed in another hotel. The next day I also parked in the wrong car park therefore didn't get any discount! I was 23.00 pounds for parking!!! I did not have any internet all week despite reporting it. There were no towels in my room when […] I arrived!!. The surrounding streets were very noisy with revellers late at night. The only upside was that the shower was great!! Mehr

Basically, this hotel was a Holiday Inn not so many years back and therefore, the rooms are a nice size and well furnished. The hotel is rough around the edges now, which I guess is why it's so cheap, but the rooms themselves are clean and large. Everything worked including the complimentary wi-fi. You get what you pay for! The resturaunt staff was nice and helpful. Desk, not so. Internet/WiFi is a rumor at best. If you want intenet on your floor. Go out in the hall by the elevator and unplug the wire going into the 3Com Router/Hub on the ceiling then plug it back in. You may have to do this 6 or 8 times a day as the internet locks up regularly. If […] you ask the Front Desk about it they will give you the same line of crap over and over that they emailled the IT guy and he is "on it". There is also alot of street noise (druck hollering people) most all through the night. I didn't mind that so much but some folks might. ...and there are some pretty dumb people in Nottingham. Not all but a high percentage. I saw a young girl trying to roller blade on a muddy dirt path. Her parrents were walking along with her and not giving it any concern. I met af ew nice folks but if you like to be left alone and not have anyone acknowledge you (by bothering you with salutations) , dont mind a lot of nimrods, and like to hear drunk people yell, then Nottingham Centre is your place! Excellent location for visiting the city centre. Good rates at the car park opposite. 24 hour cover on reception with attentive staff. we hired an executive room but even so it was very basic and the smell of cigarette smoke was over whelming, both in the room and the corridors.

My main problem with this hotel is the soundproofing or lack of. I've stayed there twice and the first time, despite being on the seventh floor, I could hear music from the street below. The second time that was not a problem. However, the second time I stayed there the mattress was a little too soft for my liking. I also find the TV options very restrictive […] and feel that all hotels now should offer all Freeview stations available in their area. Tea and coffee provision is good, though I'd like to see some herbal teas too. High marks for putting a box of Kleenex in each room. Excellent bathroom with really nice toiletries, though the loo paper could be softer. Particularly like the bath, which was deep and comfortable, if a little short. Overall, yes, I would recommend it, just. It's very central and reasonable value considering how cheap it is. Improve the soundproofing and I'd definitely recommend it. Mehr

Comfortable big room with great views-Great value for money- nice breakfast. Bath needed a good scrub though and room needed another hoover!

at first I was a bit worried as the outside of the hotel dosnt look particularly nice but once inside I found there was nothing to worry about as the room was clean and comfortable which is all I was looking for really! it's a great place to stay for how cheap it is,perfect for staying after a night out in Nottingham, it's right in the centre so you […] don't really need taxis or anything. I would stay here again, even the shower was really good which is quite rare in these cheaper hotels! but the only thing I would say is the road noise is so loud when you are trying to sleep,even with the windows closed.to be exepected though I suppose if you want to stay right in the middle of a city. Where do I start?! I stayed here for a week on business. Bedding not changed all week, rubbish bin emptied but rubbish not removed all week. Glasses in bathroom not changed all week. Walls are paper thin. Club over road pumping loud bass until the early hours (Mid-week). On the second day, I stayed in the hotel as I was unwell. At 2.01pm I arrived for […] lunch and was told sorry, the restaurant closed at 2pm but I could have a bar meal. I went to the bar but was told no meals today as there was a problem in the kitchen. Later that day I called for room service as I'd still not eaten. After trying to get through for over an hour I was told they were too busy that day to be doing room service!! I ended up having a take away delivered. The only time the staff paid any attention to me was when I came in after 11 one night and they demanded to know which room I was in, suspecting I might be daft enough to want to sneak in! They've lost out because I'm working in Notts for the next few month during the week, but it will not be here!! Never again! Mehr

My colleagues’ stay in the Britannia Hotel Birmingham was not what they expected according to the advertisement on the website. They were disappointed that the rooms were very old fashioned and dirty and did not look at all like the photos on the internet. The location of the hotel, the service and the breakfast was good.

Comfortable, OK service, good beds, good breakfast restaurant (except for the instant coffee), overall a great accomodation alternative for this price. Not to forget how central - both toward the shopping centre, the castle and the railway station. For this price - yes, absolutely.

I stayed here one night for work and was pleased with what I got for the amount I paid. Everything was clean and in working order. The shower was a bit cramped (I am 6' 2") but the room was a lot larger than I expected. It felt like they merged two rooms together and removed a door. The place did feel a little old and not in the "oh what a nice historical […] hotel" kind of way. More in the "this place feels like the early 90's" kind of way. Overall for the price I paid it did the trick and I would look them up or recommend this again. Mehr

clean comfortable room and very cheap.

It has a dated interior we were on level5 and the corridor wasn't to bad but stopped off on level 4 and it was bleak looking! The room was ok...I wasn't happy to see a plastic bag covering the smoke detector, Our companions room stank of stale smoke. Overall unless you need to be right in the middle of the city center im sure there is better options […] in Nottingham. Mehr

I booked this hotel just as a place to 'crash' after a night out. I had little to no expectations but was incredibly happy with the standard of the hotel and the facilities (particularly with the hotel bar) but the quality of the service was incredibly bad. I ordered a twin room, so me and my work mate had separate beds, and was told there were none […] left and I would have to have a double; this wasn't said with an apology or with any sort of regret or compensation and then between our two keys one did not work. Although I wasn't hoping for sweeping room service, if I order something, I do expect to get what I pay for. Mehr

There were a few hotels of similar price when I looked for a hotel in Nottingham, not sure why I picked this but would stay again. Great value for money.

Hotel showing signs of its age but room very clean & it looks as though they're re-furbishing rooms at present. Very central location for the city although parking is extra - but just next door. City transport is good during the day time especially and most of the city is walkable. Wi Fi - Free too. Cannot complain at all for the price paid.

I recently stayed at the Britannia for 2 nights when I went on a night out in Nottingham. This isn't the first time I've stayed here. The hotel is always bright and clean. The staff friendly and helpful. The hotel location is great, just a few minutes walk from the market square. I stayed in room 408, and it was fine, if I wanted to be picky there was […] a few scuffs and marks on the walls but nothing that was a big deal. The bed was super comfy, plenty of hot water and clean towels. The only downside to my stay was the fire alarm going off at 9am on the Monday morning, waking us after a very late night. No one came to tell us we needed to evacuate and i did not see anyone else leave the hotel so we stayed in our room. There was a notice in the room stating that a fire alarm test was carried out every Wednesday lunchtime but nothing about a test on Mondays. Mehr

Although the Hotel was clean, friendly staff and excellent food it has to be said it was noisey. We were going to the beer festevil so expected it to be noises but the Hotel has two very late bars/clubs under it and out room was right above them. With no air con on the 4th floor it was very stuffy and coulnt open the window because of the very late […] night noise. we stayed on the oposite side of the road last year where all the night life is( very good night life) so i thought stayying here over the road from it all would more peacfull. Very convenient location. Hotel badly needs a lick of paint. Furniture tired and old. Carpets dirty, could do with being replaced or cleaned.

The Britannia is excellent hotel for the desperate and non-discerning. The television and wireless Internet were broken totally or partially for our entire stay. While the website and signs in our bathroom indicated a shower, only a bathtub (with no hose of any kind) was provided. The bed was clean and the location was excellent for getting around Nottingham […] City Centre. If you propped your windows open, however, you might hear drunken fights and sobbing. Convenient location for access to Nottingham City Centre, meaning easy access to the nightlife, and also shopping in the day. On the flip side, this also meant that the street noise levels were quite high, but this was not an issue for me and my partner on staying at the Britannia, as we easily fell into an alcohol assisted sleep on our return to our […] room. The room and en suite were clean and well furnished. Staff were friendly. In my opinion, this hotel is perfect for having somewhere to bed down for the night after a night on the town. I would recommend this hotel to a friend, however if I were aware that they were light sleepers I would perhaps encourage them to seek alternative accommodation or ask for a quieter room away from the main road. The breakfast was terrible and staff were slow in opening the restaurant in the mornings - which is not great if you have meetings to go to. The room cleanliness was poor and the internet was down for the entire stay (four days).

It was raining during my visit to Nottingham and fortunately the carpark (NCP) was located very nearby with a shelter to the hotel. To get the discounted rate for the carpark, you have to pay for more than 12 hours. Clean room. Comfortable. You can tell it is an old hotel, and in need of a new look, but it has been maintained well enough.

Arrived as was pushed to the side by what I assume was the manager, trying to explain to the person behind the counter what they'd like typing up for a seating plan. Booked the room online and requested a twin room, but was given a double...considering the size of the hotel, I would have hoped they could have helped out, but rudely told me that they […] didn't have to cater for my request. The floor we were on stank of stale smoke, even though it was a non-smoking room. The room was no bigger than a cupboard, and was extremely hot in there. I suppose you get what you pay for... Mehr

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the hotel! The room was clean and so was the bathroom. I would definitely stay here when I am next in Nottingham

this hotel has potential to be a really good hotel, I myself run a hotel and can apreciate how much work goes into running a hotel of this size!, a few things did disapoint me! sofa's as you come down staircase uncovered pillows and cushions everywhere making it untidy, hotel bathroom, whilst cleanliness wasn't a particular issue what alarmed me was […] the the state of the tiles, lots of them were cracked and stained, the silicone around the edge of the bath was very black! This hotel has had bad reviews of which i feel was quite harsh as I feel the hotel isn't as bad as i was anticipating, More care in the rooms need to be taken! Mehr

Upon my 11 pm arrival I was greeted by a very untidy and unhelpful male receptionist. He was very impolite when I enquired about things like an iron, breakfast times, car parking prices etc it seemed like I was bothering him. I had just arrived from Hull after a long drive and was keen to get to my clean room. My room was on the 4th floor and to my […] surprise there was no shower! Instead I had a bath! I went to speak to the receptionist and he said he could do nothing about it as the hotel was full. Eventually after a half hour of arguments I was moved to the top floor when I was given a twin room. After my fantastic shower I went for the breakfast buffet. The coffee was offered in the little plastic sachets, the full English was soggy and tasteless (so much so I decided not to have breakfast). I had a glass of 'freshly squeezed' orange juice and left quite disgusted. My last involvement was with another female receptionist who asked me nothing about my stay and was also extremely rude. I questioned her about the picture of the rooms online and she basically shrugged her shoulders as if to say 'I'm not bothered'. Put simply I would never ever stay here again. Avoid this hotel at all costs. Fir business purposes there are much better hotels, similarly priced in the city centre of Nottingham. Mehr

I expected an old run down cheap hotel as I hadn't paid much for the room, but I was very impressed with the large comfy bed, sofa, large bedroom with a power shower!!!

We keep going back to this hotel purely on the basis of price, cleanliness and location. We generally find this hotel to be one of the cheapest in Nottingham and the standards of service is very high. This time round check-in was extremely fast, our room consisted of 1 double bed, 1 sofa, 1 walk-in wardrobe with refrigerator. The bathroom consisted […] of bath, shower, mirror, heated towel rail, 4 towels and toilet. The location is excellent being right next to the Castle and a stones throw away from the City Centre (4 mins walk). great central location, friendly staff and basically it did the job. i would not have liked to pay a high rate - clearly hotel needs a re furb and a plumbing degree would be helpful in working the bath /shower combo. however basically clean, central and good value for money

Phone in the room did not work. Told reception but they did not do anything about it. internet connection was also very poor.

Stayed for 3 nights. PROS: Very central location; very cheap for 3 nights (incl breakfast); got room service and food was very good; staff were friendly. CONS: Hotel and room were very dated in decor; room cleaniness was just okay, shower re-tiled with different colour tiles; breakfast was hot buffet but not very fresh even at 8.30!
