Arena Hotel - San José

Needed to buy febreeze to overcome strong stale smell in room. Noisy parking lot (CVS) so ask for room away from it.

It's important to keep in perspective what type of hotel it is when reviewing. The Arena Hotel has made some interesting updates to otherwise outdated rooms: hardwood laminate flooring in the bedroom area and stone tiling in the sink/bath area. Kudos for the very nice spa tub! The hotel was worth the price. Very big room, nice refrigerator, big bed, jacuzzi tub. Did not like that there was a smoking area right when you get to our floor. It smelt bad until you went down the hall. Not a big deal. The television doesnt have many channels, but also not a big deal. Coffee maker in room was a bit dirty. Great location, nice hotel- clean, comfortable, professional, hot breakfast included! Near resturaunts and 10 minutes to Pavilion- great location to stay for any event! There were some loud partiers - after the Shark's win, but hotel staff dealt with it quickly and we were able to sleep. Will stay here again.

Walls are thin; you can hear noise all around you, especially from guests walking above. Rooms need to be remodeled; very old fixtures and stains in the shower/tub.

Clean and attractive - walking distance to HP Pavillon. They offer a REAL hot breakfast. Good for the price.

I like this hotel because it is very close to the HP Pavilion and convenient There is a CVS next door and some restaurants near-by. I also like the place, it is dated but has character. The bed was comfy and the place was clean. For the price it is a great place to stay if you are going to a show.

The arena was a good stay and a good deal.

Great place to stay for a concert at the pavillion. Clean and safe - many concert goers around you as you walk to hotel a block or so after dark. Would definitely stay here again and recommend it.

Always stay here when attending Sharks games from Fresno. A 10 minute walk to HP Pavilion. Nice free breakfast and spacious rooms with spa tub.

This is my second time at the Arena Hotel in 2 years. It is much improved with new carpeting and furniture. You can't beat the location if you're a Sharks fan this is prime territory. Will definitely stay here again!!Staff is friendly and the free breakfast is a nice addition.

The staff are not friendly, especially those working at the front desk. We were never greeted at any time we stayed by any employee. The breakfast times were inconsistent and late, and the staff kept talking about a "miscommunication" when the sign clearly states the times that breakfast is to be served. Though the outside looks charming and quaint, […] the interior facilites are definitely dated. Even basic items like the bed, pillows, sheets, and towels were just so old and uncomfortable. Also, many items in the room were not working properly like the bathroom lights were falling off the wall, the refrigerator froze all of our food, and the microwave didn't really work. All the appliances (fan, refrigerator) were noisy. The building reeks of smoke, even though it is supposed to be non-smoking. Mehr

We always stay here when attending San Jose Sharks games. Just a ten minute walk to HP Pavilion which saves big on parking costs and hassles. Nice free hot beakfast and spa tub in room. Close to freeways and is located in an upcoming rejuvenated area of The Alameda area..

We stay here once a year to watch the Sharks-Sabres ice hockey game. Walking distance to the game and resturants with free parking. This time we booked the suite. Nice room, older but clean. Just a few issues that we could live with like one remote did not work and the shower/bath knob needed about 30lbs of force to turn. I travel for business nearly 50 weeks a year, and have had many hotel experiences..this was a new one. I heard scratching in the walls the first night and alerted the staff to a possible pest inspection..they said they're up to date and that the scratches 'were hopefully not supernatural since the hotel is haunted'. They were dead serious. I stayed, […] however, and the second night was worse, I couldn't sleep and changed rooms at 2AM. The next morning their internet was down 'for an unknown period of time' and that was the final straw, I left 2 days early. Mehr

The problem with this hotel is the contrast. Outside the hotel looks and feels like a charming mediteranean garden. But inside, the rooms are just okay, the tv was quite small, the bed was very firm, and the decor is dated. Would I recommend? Yes, the price was good and so was the location.

Liked it. Tricky to find but cool old style digs. Decent price. Cozy bed, big jacuzzi tub. Will stay again.

The hotel was very nice and had a full breakfast which was great because we were there for a volleyball tournament and had little time to get out the door in the morning. The beds were pretty uncomfortable but for the price this was a great option.

Good location, near downtown and many other shopping/restaurants. Nice breakfast and clean rooms. Bed was hard, pillows weren't good (flat)...didn't sleep well. Overall, average stay.

Chose this place becasue it was near the San Jose AMTRAK station. Walked the two blocks. Initially, saw the archway into the courtyard - coming from an unexciting main stret. I was a little worried about what I was going to see. Very Nice.

decent clean, good sized rooms, a good but not great breakfast selection, walking distance to the HP Pavilion and downtown, free parking, we have stayed here before and will stay again. Only caveat the hardwood floors make any movement in the room above you more noisy than usual. Get a 3rd floor room.

The street traffic etc was too noisy

The hotel is just a few minutes away from the HP Pavilion, which was perfect since we attended an event at the Pavilion. The hotel is older but well maintained and the decor is older as well as modern. The room had a stovetop, microwave, refrigerator. Where to begin. The hotel is easy to get to from almost all major freeways and the location is perfect. We attended a concert at the HP Pavilion which is less than a five minute walk. Besides the convience it saves you parking fees and or a cab cost. The rooms are nice and large plus they have a really large fridge that comes in handy. The staff was […] really helpful. When we returned from the concert at 11 pm and instead of getting dirty looks they asked how the concert was and gave us directions to the nearest open restaurant. Was in San Jose for Sharks game, and Arena Hotel was within walking distance of HP Pavilion. Comfortable stay, very large room. Would use again.

Very friendly staff and we could walk to HP Pavillion and save parking fees. Rooms were nice and no hidden charges. Easy wifi access also, no special codes to set up. We will definately stay again when we go to a game.

I was really surprised to find this little gem so close to stores and in the heart of San Jose. I was booking a hotel and it had some how sky rocketed in price. I usually always stay there when visiting San Jose, but I will no longer stay there since I found The Arena. It was the most enjoyable stay. This hotel offers a quietness yet is close to convenient stores and restaurants. It's quaint and affordable. Customer Service is great and they offer a nice complimentary breakfast buffet to chose from. I travel to San Jose frequently to visit my family so I know that I will return to the Arena Hotel again and again.

we had tickets to a local hockey game and with the Arena Hotel with in walking distance we were able to have a nice relaxing time together before and after the game events! saved us money in parking fees at the event. the room we had was very spacious, with a wirlpool tub for a relaxing bath! and a small kitchenett provided space for hot or cold drinks […] and snaks! this hotel will be on my list of must stay again!;-) Mehr

We were moving our daughter. Into SJSU and no availability at downtown Marriott where we usually stay. Searched hotels and decided from reviews tha this place would be reasonably comfortable and inexpensive. It was inexpensive but comfort was non existent. The bed was awful. The crater in center of bed and threadbare sheets and blanket made me feel […] like a motel 6 was a 4 star hotel. I will say the breakfast was well staged and better than most buffets. The parking is safe and adequate. The shower is unreliable. Water pressure good but beware of temp change during shower. I was nearly scalded then ice cold. Etc. next time I will pay the price at fairmont or Marriott. The savings wasn't worth the chiropractor visits. Mehr

You can't beat the price/location of The Arena if you are attending an event at the Shark Tank!

Front desk people could use a attitude adjustment. I've stayed there 4 different times and every single time the lady at the desk always has an attitude...management needs to put their foot down and hire someone else with a friendly smile.

A short walk, maybe 500 or so yards from the Amtrak station's northern boundry, is the Arena hotel. Very Close to the shuttle buses around town for conventions and a stroll from the arena and downtown.

I stayed in a King Suite at the Arena Hotel. The room contained a kitchenette, separate bedroom and large bathroom. The room decorations were a bit dated, but overall cleanliness was good. Despite the proximity to San José airport, Caltrain station and The Alameda, the noise level was surprisingly low at night. Breakfast and WiFi were included in the […] room rate. The hotel is lovely in a decent neighborhood. The room was very affordable and large. The service was wonderful and attentive. The breakfast was not great - no fresh fruit - but adequate, with hot food options. My biggest complaint is the hotel is quite noisy. Maybe just my room, but there were loud noises coming from within the hotel most the night […] and people walking by the hotel to the hockey games. Also 5 am the trash truck came to empty the dumpsters right under my window. Maybe rooms not right next to the laundry facility or on the street side will be better. Mehr
