This hotel was a has been. The location was great and the Hotel looked like at one point in time it was THE hotel in portland but when we got to our room the overall decor and furniture looked like it was from the 50's. The bathroom was like a closet. The desks and tables and chairs were so worn down. The bedding was old and not comfortable. It also […] smelled like an antique shop mixed with an old man's b.o. We eventually asked to be switched to a different room which was a little better but not much. The bathroom had tiles missing and wallpaper peeling. The toilet paper holder was so dusty. It just wasn't what we expected and it kind of put a damper on our whole trip. Mehr

Might not stay there again....it felt run down

By the time you read this the hotel will probably be shut down for renovations. I think renovations begin the beginning of June. We had a very nice stay, our first time in Portland. The hotel is located across from the museum, they are currently showing Degas, free on Fridays!!! I hope the Westin will maintain the old world charm of the hotel. Staff […] is friendly and helpful. nervous entering and exiting hotel to garage. pathway was very dark

This marvelous old hotel has managed to keep things up and very nice in a way that many others don't. Rooms are clean, comfortable and attractively furnished. Rates are very fair. We stay there every time we visit our daughter in Portland. Handy to the many things to do in Portland.

If it's just a place to lay your head, it's fine. Old and not very nice if you planned on hanging out there

Portland, Maine is a great walking city. The Eastland is in a very convenient location to get to good restaurants, theaters, the harbor, galleries. The staff was very friendly. My only complaint is the bed was very stiff - too stiff for my taste. Other than that, I would not hesitate to go back.

it was old and probably would not stay there again. too far from shopping, would like to be by water.

the staff was very freiendly and gave us great tips to local places. The hotel is older but clean..our room was warm but it was unseasonably warm. Portland a very nice city. the art museum is accross the street

Lots of construction noise at hotel...started at 730am...not cool

Front desk clerk was very friendly and helpful, although the person upon checkout could have been more refined. The room was fine as far as cleanliness, however there wasn't anything over-the-top. I expected more for the money that I paid. The towel rack in the bathroom was coming out from the wall, and had been rigged with some plastic bag material...the […] side of the vanity was coming apart, and the shower curtain was mildewed. In our recent stay here, we discovered that while the food is excellent and the staff is helpful, the bathroom tub/shower does not have a safety bar so my mom was not comfortable using the shower. Also, there was no TV guide, no book with hotel information or information about check out. I had requested and had been assured we would have a room by the […] elevator and we were put about as far away as one could be. By the time my mother got there, she only wanted to unpack and not worry anyone. It was close to our venue, but will not be our first choice again. Mehr

Grat location clean hotel, little old but clean. Parking a little pricey.

The Eastland, an old fashioned but still nice hotel, has been bought by Westin. The employees we spoke to were eager for the major renovations that are coming.

We had a great experience at the Eastland Park, Fab room, great bar with incredible views!!

Hotel has a great location, but the inside is lackluster. Towels were scratchy, linens felt cheap, and you could hear/feel the plastic when you moved around on the mattress. Appliances were outdated and bathroom was seriously needing some updating. The website says they offer smoking rooms (which I booked), but when I arrived they said they hadn't had […] them for a few years. This really wasn't a big deal to me, more of an annoyance. Overall, this felt like a 2 star hotel at a much higher price. Mehr

We just wanted to get a night away from the house and frankly this was the only place left in town at the time of our booking. So we took a chance and were pleasantly surprised. Very nice old school place. The staff was friendly. I suppose the only downside is $20 for parking but I knew to expect that from reading other reviews.

The hotel is not luxurious but is a great place to stay in Portland, especially for the price we paid. Room was as advertised, lots of space and very clean. Bathroom was small and a little old. Location is very good in the city center close to a lot of shops and museums. It is not on the waterfront, but since Portland is a small city, 15 min walk will […] get you there. They provide a free shuttle service from/to airport and bus station, and anywhere you want to go in town. Mehr

Great hotel in a great location--within walking distance to most of Portland's tourist sites. The hotel was built in the 1920s, but has definitely been recently renovated--much nicer than a lot of the older hotels I've stayed at. Staff is friendly and room and lounges are very clean. Room was spacious and comfortable--only complaints were that the TV […] was a little outdated and the fitted sheet would come off the mattress after a few minutes of sitting on the bed. Breakfast cafe seemed way overpriced, but check out Marcy's Breakfast and Lunch down the street for an AWESOME diner experience at a reasonable price. Mehr

The Eastland is one of the grand old hotels of Portland, ME. It is centrally located right in the heart of the historic downtown district with everything in easy walking distance.

Great price and very friendly employees!

From the outside as well as in the lobby the hotel is really nice, comfortable and definitely recommendable. The rooms (beds, bathroom etc.) are okay. I would definitely recommend the hotel. The condition/maintenance of the bathroom could use some improvements though. Discount for hotel guests in the nearby parking lots. :)

Being one who is in upper management in the industry, I take reviews lightly but I hope this specific review may assure you this hotel will be a great choice. It's a well rounded property offering professional services and clean-comfortable public and private spaces. This hotel is smack in the center of downtown Portland, Maine, extremely convenient and very comfortable and affordable. The staff were very helpful, with free rides to and from the airport, directions and suggestions. I was told the rooftop is beautiful but didn't get a chance to see it or eat in the restaurant but the lobster mac and cheese on the […] menu looked tempting. My room was very comfortable and quiet. Great location! Awesome bartender.

The location was perfect for me. Walking distance to great restaurants, shops, Portland Art Museum, ferry, etc. This is a very old, historic hotel. The layout of the room was a bit strange, and my bathroom didn't have a tub. The TV set was outdated also. The bed was comfortable with new bedding, and I was able to control the temperature in the room. […] The hotel has a restaurant on the top floor which is supposed to be the highest point in Portland. The staff (along with many people in Maine) were friendly and helpful. I would stay at this hotel again. Mehr

This hotel is nice and the staff are excellent. The location is not great and you have to pay 18 dollars a night to park. Not great considering the price we paid to stay there.

Seeing that we where at this hotel just 2 days before, we found a big difference in our stay. Our room which we requested to be the same ( king parlor) was the same set up but had many differences. The phone did not work and when we called from our cell phone for room serivce they did not send someone to fix it. The hair dryer in the bathroom was coming […] off the wall,there definilty was an electricity is with the constant diming of lights, the towel rack was as well, shower head was old and dated, no desk in front room as stated for lap top, missing window with replaced with plywood was not a good sign in a room that we payed more for on the weekend. The eastland park is in a great location within walking distance of all of what portland has to offer. It is reasonably clean, could use to have carpets replaced and overall updating, HDTV's, ipod docks, etc. Given that the hotel is almost 100 years old it's not in that bad of shape. have stayed here a couple of times and would stay again, recomm […] ended. We loved Portland and the hotels location but the EPH was in a sad state of disrepair. Huge gouges in the walls. Only one working light in the whole suite. Lamps were missing bulbs. Shower curtain was filthy and barely hanging on the rod ( thanks to all but two of the clips being rusted out). Smell of cigarette smoke in the hallways was overpowering. First the good: the hotel is in a fine location, just a short walk to the Old Port area; the staff was helpful and attentive; and the rooms clean and comfortable. And the not-quite-as-good: the Eastland Park Hotel is in desperate need of a makeover. It's easy to see that this used to be a first-class establishment, but that was a long time ago. Despite having reserved a nonsmoking room we were given a room that clearly was not smoke-free. The room was on the mezzanine level, and the entire hallway actually smelled like smoke. The front desk was able to give us another room on another floor without any trouble, and the second room was significantly better. Even had a great view of the city. […] A bit annoying as it seemed they were trying to dump the first room on us but we were glad to able to get what we had reserved in the first place. Mehr

This hotel is close to everything and has a lot of character. Loved to bar on the roof with its great view and extremely good martinis. The sinks in rooms are located away from the shower/toilet area which is a little odd but everything worked well. Staff were very helpful. Stayed 3 nights and would definitely stay again!

Employees were awesome however the room was small The rugs were stained and filthy Parking garage was from the Sci-Fi channel and no free coffee

We love this hotel and stay here about once a month. The only issue we have is the cost of breakfast, the prior time we stayed we spend a lot on breakfast - we now eat off site. But the hotel is very comfortable, the service is excellent, the view from the upstairs bar is fabulous. We don't have a problem paying a lot for drinks at the upstairs bar, […] but for breakfast - no. But we have been staying here for years and love it! Mehr

The Eastland Park Hotel is very nicely located for visits to Portland. The neighborhood is peppered with super restaurants, the Portland Museum of Art is a few steps away, and the Portland Jetport is a quick drive. Off-street parking is convenient. What has made me a repeat customer of this hotel, though, is the great customer service. From the greeting […] at the front desk upon arrival to the efficient shuttle service provided to the restaurant recommendations to the unfailing "hello" from every employee, the Eastland Park has made me feel welcome and valued. This is an old building with small rooms, few ammenities and rates far exceeding what should be appropriate for this type of hotel and the city of Portland.

Dingy, dirty and outdated hotel. Guests beware. Overpriced for what it is. Two out of three elevators broke down. Bathroom was dirty . No sink in the bathroom. Grimy carpet required us to keep our shoes on. The only positive comment is, the staff was friendly.

Rooms were very large - very helpful to have an extra living room so the dog would stay out of the bedroom when we left. Great location just steps from the State Theatre where we saw John Butler Trio. Highly recommended.
