The draw for this hotel is location--near some of the best restaurants in B'Ham, and walking distance to all. The overall look of the hotel (interior) is a bit dated, and could use some updating, but overall it's fine. We stayed in a well-priced suite--it was more like a small apartment! Bad: The girl working the front desk during the day left a little bit to be desired in the friendliness department. And the parking situation is only okay. It's nice to have the valet service, but they only have 1 guy working at a time, and they only have 2 spots on a busy street in front of the hotel. Makes for a bit of a production when it's dinnertime […] on a Saturday night and 3 or 4 parties are waiting for 1 guy to run around the block and retrieve their cars 1 at a time in traffic. I will say that the valets were impeccably polite and attentive. Good: Well appointed, comfortable room. Not huge, but probably expected for a historic building. Great view of downtown from our room. Continental breakfast similar to what you'd get at a Hampton Inn. The front desk staff in the evening were very friendly and helpful. Awesome: Location can't be beat. Heart of Southside. It was my fiancee's first time in Birmingham, and she already insists that we only stay at Hotel Highland on return visits. Mehr

Comfortable, walking distance to Southern Research Inst. where my meeting was. Front sitting area was nice place to kill 2 hours doing email before catching a taxi to the airport.

My room was comfortable enough and had a "boutique" feel. The bed was comforatble, water pressure in the shower was great, and the hotel breakfast was ample. This is a good hotel. The staff are very curteous and the rooms are comfortable and clean. I only gave 3 stars b/c it really is just a 3 star hotel. It had such high customer reviews, that I was […] expecting a lot more, but it was just a typical hotel stay. One thing to note is that parking is not included in the rate and street parking can be quite limited in the area. There is a parking deck for self-park, but it did not have a guard. I would stay here again and I would recommend this hotel to friends or family who needed a decent, affordable hotel in the area. Mehr

I was visiting Birmingham for my little sister's 21st birthday so I chose to stay at this hotel due to its location in the middle of the 5 points south district where we could walk to bars, restaurants & clubs. It was clean & cute boutique style hotel. The staff was friendly. Overall we had a great time & I would definitely stay there again.

Wifi was out for a half day, none of ice machines work. Otherwise nice stay.

The hotel room was smaller than I thought with no refrigerator to hold my medications. The staff is very personable and tried to accomadate us. The bed seemed very hard and made for uncomfortable sleeping according to my wife. It is more than 4 blocks from the UAB hospital, as told to me by the operator, which was my final destination.

The staff were very efficient with check-in and check-out. The Valet Parking atttendants were most helpful in getting the bags to our room and one even offered to walk us to the Thai Restaurant at night. We would stay here again.

our first time to stay here...loved the convenience, free breakfast, exercise facility, parking garage very convenient also we'll definitely try to stay there on our next visit to Birmingham

Have stayed at the Highlands in the past....great boutique hotel in a city that you would not expect to find one. Rooms are very nice size, very comfortable, and clean. The staff makes you feel at home the moment you walk in the door. They are helpful and very attentive. The bar has changed since my last visit, it was good before. now you can sit, have […] a drink and conversation for a nice price. Would stay here again, in fact the only hotel in B'ham I would stay. My wife and I were visiting Birmingham as tourists - and this was the perfect base from which to explore all the sights.

I stayed at this hotel with a group of ladies for a bachelorette party- it was amazing! It was close to the restaurant we had reservations at, as well as the bars. The room was gorgeous and extremely comfortable. Megan, the young lady at the front desk, was very friendly and helpful. I will definitely be back.

We are very pleased to have stayed at Hotel Highland. The room was very comfortable. The breakfast was great. The area was perfect. Lots of thigs in walking distance. Great area restaurants. You will be plaeased if you stay here.

Have stayed at the Highlands on my numerous visits to Bham. It was again a pleasure to stay. The people are helpful and always willing to get things done. Rooms were clean as always and buffet in morning was just enough. The H bar was a nice place for drinks and entertainment, just need more space for the overflow. Only change that has been made would […] be the bath products. Did not like the new shampoo containers, they need to return to what the used in the past. This hotel was clean, rooms adequate size. My one main issue was the AC. I stayed in late April, so is was warm outside (mid 80's). I had the AC on Max and it was borderline too warm in the room. The bigger issue was that the room was humid. This hotel's AC did not do a very good job of pulling the moisture out of the air, so I was uncomfortable the […] night I stayed.
