Hotel ist renovierungsbedürftig; völlig abgewohnte Teppichböden; Klimaanlage funktionierte mangelhaft; Ungeziefer im Zimmer; der sog. Pool ist eher ein Goldfischteich! Wenn schon St. James Hotel, dann nur das vordere Haupthaus

Etwas veraltetes Mobiliar passt aber irgendwie zum Charm Stadt New Orleans(positiv gemeint!) In 5 Gehminuten in der Bourbanstreet und Canalstreet. Würd ich wieder buchen

Hotel service was great but we got stuck in a little closet sized room on the 4th floor. Otherwise we had a good stay.

I arrived around 6pm Fri. Clerk was indifferent basically rude. Bellman/concierge wouldn't let me use cart to transport my luggage. Room was dim and dingy. Pool was in poor condition. Ice machine and AC didn't work. I won't be back.

The hotel was better than I expected. However, the toilet was very dirty - I don't think they cleaned it, and the safe was broken. Some of the staff was helpful, some was not. In general, the rest of the room and the bathroom was clean.

It's a great deal and the location can't be beat. Not dirty but not the cleanest, mostly the carpet needed to be cleaned (at least in our room). The staff was really friendly and there were 2 great courtyards so all in all it was fine.

EXCELLENT OVERALL CHOICE FOR OUR NEEDS AND PROXIMITY TO MARDIS GRAS FESTIVITIES. QUITE A WALK TO THE FRENCH MARKET OR VIERRE CARRE. BUT IF YOU HAVE GOOD WALKING SHOES AND ARE NOT EASILY WINDED, THEN THIS IS A GREAT WALK.

This is an alright hotel. Our only real complaint was that the elevator needed maintenance and was really iffy. It is very close to the French Quarter, to the point that we had trouble getting there due to Mardi Gras parades.

Friendly and helpful staff. Room was cozy but the hotel maintenance lacks terribly. The carpet was very dirty, the walls need cleaning and a fresh coat of paint. The bedding and mattresses are old and need updating. The elevator was in need of repair badly. Not worth the money you pay. Do not recommend. Sad but true.

Great little hotel. Had a wedding to attend right next door at the new Orleans board of trade the only thing about the hotel is that the elevator is possessed you press 1 you end up on 2 you press 3 and end up on 4 but it didnt matter to me it was more funny than aggravating . All and all a great hotel

Hotel is in terrible condition, dirty, and unkept. Workers were rude and very abrasive. House keeping was very inadequate. Elevator was broken and would not stop on 3rd floor - seemed very unsafe. We booked the rooms for the BCS championship and were expecting a decent hotel near the French Quarter. Instead, in our first room our air conditioning didn't work and our room was really hot. So they upgraded us to a suite (appreciated). In the suite in a different building the hot water didn't work which was a common complaint throughout the hotel […] and there was mold in the shower. Then to add injury to insult the AC in this room was in and out. Long story short I would not recommend this hotel. Mehr

The location for this hotel is quite convenient, however this is more than offset by some of the worst customer service I've ever had the displeasure of experiencing. Too expensive for the what you get. Doesnt fullfill my Expectations at all.

Our stay at St. James was not up to the standards we have gown to expect from 3+ star hotels on hotels.com. I am sure it was once a great hotel, but no longer. Location is good, but up keep is not keeping up with the needs of the building

We arrived and the front desk manager did not greet us. We were put in a room with 2 mini beds (no way those were queens) instead of the king we asked for. We were eventually put in a room with a king bed. The carpets in the hallway is worn through. The room smelled a little musty and something was vibrating in the pipes all night that kept me up. The […] overall feel of the room was "icky" and didn't feel clean. The jungle safari theme doesn't really go with NOLA downtown. The hairdryer in the room was half bashed in so it worked half of the time. The closet was so short that you couldn't close the door once you put clothes in it. Once the maid finally came she didn't actually clean the room saying that she had to get home and gave us 2 towels. This place is not quaint or charming or a hidden gym, it's cut rate and dirty. Only stay here if you are looking for something on a budget that's walking distance to attractions. For me and my money - I'll be staying at the Courtyard next time. Yuck Yuck Poor Service Icky Mehr

My recent stay at teh St. James was very disappointing. 1st the carpet in th ehallway was extremely dirty. It had a dirt trail from the elevator to our room. When we entered the room, I obsevred old burnt out light bulbs sitting on a table. The room it's self was very clean. But the flat screen tv was not working properly and when I notified the front […] desk I was told " You'll be all right." The smaller tv was also not working properly, and that was replaced the next day. I was also surprised to about the $30 per day to park the car, Being a big city, I figured on paying for Valet, but $60 for 2 days I flet was high. Finally, I was charged for WIFI($4) and a safe ($3), which I didn't even use. The staff was at the front desk was not very friendly and seem only happy while taking my money. Mehr

I was unknowingly charged $15 for a safe that I never used. Perhaps, the gentleman who checked me in could've shared this information with me.

Loved the room. Very cute and comfortable, had french doors that opened to the pool. The staff, however, seem like they would just as soon spit on you as be polite or helpful. And you can't get your own ice, you have to bring it to the front desk and they do it for you.

We liked the hotel because it was near everything we wanted to see. The hotel itself was not worth the price. The room was obviously not cleaned very well. The toilet had "stuff" in it when we got there. The building is beautiful and old, but it seemed like there was little effort made with up keep. Paint was peeling from the doors and the sheets on […] the bed were so thin that we could literally see the mattress right through them. We were excited to get a chance to stay so close to the french quarter in New Orleans. From the outside the hotel looks very nice. The front desk staff was rude at check in and was not helpful and would blow us off when we asked simple questions. The only parking available was $22/day for an open lot and $32/day for Valet which is still 2 blocks away. […] When we laid on the bed in our room we rolled to the middle because of the indent in the center of the mattress. I would NOT recommend this hotel until the staff gets a lesson in customer service and the beds get new mattresses. Mehr

If you asked me to write this review based on our first of three nights, it would not be good. We were put into room 217, a handicap room, which wasn't the bad part at all. The open shower was filled with mold around the edge---yuck! Our family of 4 was issued only 2 old towels and there was no hair dryer. When I asked the front desk for the hair dryer, […] I was told I had to wait until 9am the next morning, they had given out the one they had on hand. Needless to say, we switched rooms! The second room was better equipt with more towels and a hairdryer, as it should have been. Keep in mind if you stay here that it is a very old hotel with lots of New Orleans charm, but it is old. It could use some fresh paint. On the bright side, it's right around the corner from Mother's Restaurant!!! Definate plus!!! Mehr

The hotel is filthy. The staff poorly trained. The car was broken into and robbed while in valet parking!!!! Stay away, it was a bad!!!! time

Shady shady shady! They will randomly charge you for things upon check out. Staff is angry. Rooms are dirty. Seriously, any good reviews on this hotel have to be written by management. There is a hundred places to stay in town..... if you have any good sense you will not stay here... We chose this hotel because it was an old building. We wanted the "flavor" of New Orleans. The initial appearance was good. However, just because a building is old does not mean you can't maintain it properly. The carpet in the halls are filthy and worn. The fixtures are dusty, there is an overall shabby feel to the hotel. As for the room, they do not […] provide wash cloths, only two towels, and one hand towel. These are thin and threadbare. They do not provide bath soap or enough toilet paper. The bed was in terrible shape with tears along the edge, exposing the inside of the mattress. The drapes were in good condition, however, sections of the drapes were actually off the rod thus not allowing you to close them properly. All of the pictures and wall hangings were dusty, there was mold on the bath tiles. The icing on the cake was that there was an outdoor party with a live band that played outside our window until midnight. It would have been nice to know that in advance. Mehr

I don't write reviews unless a Hotel has been incredibly spectacular or a huge disappointment. I have stayed at this hotel before because it has a convenient downtown location. However, the overall quality of the hotel has diminished significantly since my last stay here. First, lets talk about hidden fees. If you are driving your own vehicle, you […] can add an additional per day fee for parking that is approximately 1/4 -1/3 of the room rate. In addition, you are charged for the safe in your room and WiFi internet service (which doesn't work well) whether you use these services or not. If you want a cup of coffee in the morning or a soft drink in the evening you will have to leave the hotel to get it unless you brought your own. There was a false fire alarm at 3 AM one night (and while this isn't necessarily the hotel's fault) the scurrying cock roaches running across my room when I turned on the lights was more than a little disconcerting. I returned to my room one evening to find it only halfway made-up and the towel assortment varied day to day. The shower caulk was extensively discolored (moldy) and the shower curtain was so short it would not stay inside the tub. This made for a quick green shower both in terms of water conversation and the wall decor (mold). The front desk was usually pretty responsive when I called to have my vehicle brought around by the valet, but on one occasion I waited about 5 minutes for them just to answer the phone and another 15 to have the car arrive. Of course this was the day I was in a hurry to get to an appointment. On my next visit to New Orleans I will either pay a few extra bucks to stay at a nicer establishment with these amenities included or I will stay at a no-tel motel where I would normally expect these levels of accommodations. Location is walking distance to Convention Center, French Quarter, And River Walk, but this place needs to be Cleaned! Walls are filthty, hair in the tub and garbage from previous guesrs. If I had a choice I would find something else.

The convenience of the location was the main and at times only perk of this hotel. I wasn't there a lot so it really didn't matter, but the elevator got stuck, had a couple of bugs in my room, no housekeeping service and the ice machines didn't work. You have to get ice at the lobby desk.

We stayed there for a NFL weekend and we're pretty disappointed. First of all we showed up and there were no king beds left. They had given them to customers of other hotels that were overbooked (yes, the attendant actually told us that). Then he said he could give a suite to make up for it, only to go back on that as well saying it was already booked […] for as a comp for a priest (yes, the attendant admitted to that too). Our room was gross. A/C hardly worked and everything was just dingy. Visibly spots where the wall paint was touched up, carpet was nasty, there was hair (not ours) all over the shower....lots of it. Good news is we were hardly in our room so we didn't have to notice it too much. Still had a blast in NOLA. Mehr

Ok for price I guess but they charged for safe and Internet even though I didn't use them. Also, ice machine was broken, hair dryer broken, outlet in bathroom worked intermittently, air conditioner not working right (never got below 75 during the day). Restaurant in hotel way overpriced, sitting pool nasty, and parking lot directly across street is […] half price of valet. Only friendly person was the doorman and cleaning lady. Just a terrific boutique hotel. Very comfortable rooms that are nicely decorated. Not too many frills or the feel of a big, full service hotel, but great value.

The hotel was quite nice. It definitely isn't the newest, but neither are many in the area. The hotel unfortunately only offer turn down service on sundays and wednesdays. They did offer clean towels every afternoon if you requested them. The carpets are a little worn, but again, this hotel is not brand new. It is very similar in quality to other hotels […] in the french quarter, but we found it was reliably lower priced. It is quite a bit of walk to a lot of the interesting stuff in the city. Mehr

we arrived had a hard time getting help, went to room on 2nd floor elevator was out of order had to use stairs. after going out came back turn on light room was full of roaches. they movedd us to the third floor room in same building elevator was out all weekend, on last night there and morning found roaches in that room.. Big well feed ones..

We thought the hotel was nice. Quiet setting, just off the beaten path. My dads older didn't like it. only coffee in the morning. I would stay there again neighborhood. could look alittle run down.

ice machines out of order. Ice was scooped from a cooler in the lobby. elevator out of order so we carried luggage down stairs. Overall dingy. Haul and courtyard smelled nasty. Courtyard could be nicer without the big trashcans. Loved our room but no fridge available. My white nightgown went to the laundry I guess and never returned.
