Clontarf Castle Hotel - Dublin

Es ist sicherlich kein schlechtes Hotel, aber wir hatten einfach mehr erwartet. Die Hotelzimmer befinden sich alle in einem Anbau des Schlosses, leider hat man dort versäumt den Charme des ursprünglichen Gebäudes einzufangen. Im Endeffekt handelt es sich um ein ganz normales Hotel, dessen Bar, Restaurant und Empfangsbereich im alten Schlossteil integriert […] sind. Dies Zimmer sind von der Ausstattung für diese Hotelkategorie ausreichend, bieten aber keine positiven Überraschungen. Das Bad war allerdings enttäuschend, da sich hier wohl schon etwas die Abnutzung bemerkbar gemacht hat (Sprünge in Fließen, Wanne und einige Schimmelflecken). Auch war die Auswahl an Amenities sehr gering (kleine Tube Shampoo, kleine Tube Duschgel - Kosmetik Tücher waren sogar leer). Alles in Allem war der Aufenthalt ganz nett, muss aber nicht wieder sein - andere Hotels der gleichen Kategorie bieten mehr. Mehr

Etwas ausserhalb des Zentrums gelegen. Mit dem Bus 130 ist das Zentrum Dublins problemlos in 10-20 Minuten zu erreichen (je nach Verkehr). Sehr freundliches Personal. Rest. Fahrenheit-Grill abends oft ausgebucht. Komfortable Zimmer im neuen Teil.

The bed was very hard and linens/pillows were not plush. Otherwise the stay was very nice!!!

We intentionally booked this hotel, to avoid downtown Dublin. There is a city bus which takes you into Dublin, so it was convenient. We stayed 3 nights, and Sunday night was great. The king bed was comfortable, and amenities of the hotel are good, food is good. However, Friday and Saturday nights were very noisy. Friday night, there was a very bad Frank […] Sinatra wannabe in the bar, and Saturday night was a wedding reception. If you're looking for a quiet hotel, look elsewhere. Mehr

We only used the Castle to sleep as we have family nearby. Since we were staying for 6 nights they tried to give us a quiet room on the top floor. Problem is the large amount of wedding business and guests who run the halls early in the morning. My only complaint about the room is that the tv is impossible to view from the bed. Very strange location […] in the wall and the number of stations are very limited. The breakfast wait was disorganized with one person trying to seat us and another saying no so we left and did not use any restaurant facility. But overall, a good value and the front desk folks were very professional. Mehr

Excellent refurbishment to create castle ambience. Staff were very helpful. I feel breakfast should have been included in the nightly rate.

Clontarf Castle Hotel is a modern hotel built with the old castle incoporated into the design. If you're looking for modern amenities, but with the cool factor of staying in a castle, this is a great choice. Only drawback is that it's in the middle of a highly residential area. You can walk about 10 minutes to catch a bus on the main line to city center. […] Room was a good value for the $. Mehr

I only spent one night in this hotel, but it had a feel of History, and yet in the rooms a contrast of modern feel with an old coat of arms.... When you arrive you can be nothing but surprised to find such a gem, it was more than I expected and did not let me down. One of the best hotels ive ever stayed in. We came for St. Pattys day weekend and the staff was so helpful and explained everything that would be going on, where to catch the bus into the city center, where to see the parade where to eat, etc. A little pricey, but totally worth it for the comfort and hospitality.

Hotel was fantastic and clean, definetly a unique experience staying in a castle! A little way from downtown but close to all bus routes. Hotel staff was very helpful.

This hotel has done a great job at retaining the old world charm of the castle while offering comfortable modern accommodation. The staff on the reception desk were very efficient and helpful. The drinks and food bars were quite pricey and the service a little slow but other than that it was all very good.

Staff in the hotel were very helpful throughout the stay in Dublin. The hotel sits in a beautiful residential area of Dublin and only a short walk down to the promenade with beautiful view across the bay. There is a good bus service between the hotel and city centre that takes the stress out of travelling into the city by car. Food is good in the restaurant […] and the castle background music very relaxing. Overall, it is a nice place to stay when visiting the city. Mehr

Beaufiful hotel with lovely staff. We were at a wedding there and everything was prefect. The only down fall was the cold in our room. It was freezing we went and asked the staff to put on the heat but unfortanetly the room didn't seem any warmer. All in all though a great stay.

Staff very obliging. When we arrived I noticed that there was only one bath towel in the bathroom. I rang reception to request another towel (as there was two of us sharing the room) and less than 5 minutes later there was a knock on the door with more (and warm) towels. Breakfast was lovely. We did not have it included in our package and we were delighted […] to discover that it was only €10 extra for breakfast per person. The hotel is beautiful, the rooms are very modern and don't look at all like a castle but everything is beautiful, very comfortable and the food we had was great as well!

NO good options for breakfast...restaurants closed every time we looked! Service just okay...definitely not 5 star! Key never worked...had to go to desk on each return. Female personnel rude! Erik (concierge) was great!

Everything about our stay here was incredible. It is a little pricy but everything in Europe was. I would gladly pay a little more for this then 90 Euros for a dump

The advertisment for this hotel claims you will be sleeping in a castle. There is indeed a piece of a castle tower but what you actually sleep in is a hotel that has been built attached to this partial tower. It was somewhat disappointing.

The Clontarf Castle Hotel was very clean and the staff was very accommodating. We even got to check in at 7:00 in the morning to shower and get ready for the day. The hotel is outside of the town of Dublin so if you do not have a car there is a city bus to take from the hotel into town. There isn't any grounds to walk around on or to see the hotel is right in the middle of a neighborhood of houses. Eric the Concierge was so helpful and very enjoyable to talk to. Walk to bus for easy access to City Center. Beautiful clean hotel, excellent helpful accommodating staff. Highly recommend this hotel.

I booked this hotel as it was supposed to be close to the Ferryport. The comfort, cleanliness and uniqueness of the hotel made up for the location.

The hotel itself was very nice and had a great vibe to it. The staff was friendly, the rooms clean. The only downsides for me was the very poor wireless internet signal in our room (second floor) and that the hotel was a little further out from the city center than I thought. Also, be careful if you are from the States and decide to call home. My friend […] paid about 40 Euro for less than 15 minutes worth of talking... ouch. Mehr

The Clontarf is a wonderful historic venue which was fully renovated several years ago into a stunning hotel. This is an excellent value and wonderful location. The bars are fabulous and bustling with nightlife. An experience you will not soon forget.

Nice hotel but unhelpful and inefficient staff especially lady on reception. Was given a room over the car park which was very noisy. Heard someone being sick in the early hours of the morning and when we checked out there was vomit in the corridor. Unaccompanied children were allowed to play in the elevators. The hotel building was lovely, room a little small might be worth an upgrade to better room style. Disappointed the main restaurant closed early due to low number leaving only bar food, very disappointed at this as location of hotel means you have to travel for food so for a short stay or mid week break this was not convienient The fire alarm at 6.30 […] was not a dilighter! Fabulous building, small but comfortable room, restaurant closes early if volumes are low which really restricts food choice resulting in you being force to select bar food. Also.disappointed by the fact that the fire alarm went off early morning disturbing stay & was false alarm.

The 'Castle' part of the hotel is primarily used for the restaurant area, the guest rooms are built around the castle. Our room was very nice and modern we where put on the ground floor our room was overlooking the garbages which was disappointing and noisy. The room itself very comfortable. The only downfall was when we inquired about public transportation […] to get to the hotel one week before our stay we where told it was only accessible by taxi and so we kept our rental car for an extra day we where extremly dissappointed to find out upon arrival that there is a bus stop basically right down the road and we could've just used public transportation and saved $ on the rental car. On check-in we were sent to twin room even though we had booked a double non-smoking. WE were even asked did we want smoking or non and all she had to do was look at our booking confirmation. There were the bare necessities in the bathroom - one shower gel, one shampoo, one soap and that was it. No shower cap, shoe shine, facecloth, Only one set of […] towels. On hanging up our clothes we found a second set of towels. On check-out we reported that we couldnt shower as the water was cold. We were told there was a problem with the fire alarm which affected the water and were offered no apology whatsoever - all we were told was that they they were trying to rectify it which is a bit rich when you are checking out - a bit late wouldn't you say? We were very pleased when we pulled up. Everyting looked amazing. We were able to check in several hours early with no problem. We only stayed one night and had to leave early the next morning to get to the airport. Definitely wish our stay could have been longer. The hotel staff gave us information on how to use the bus service to get to town center, which was a great way to see the town without having to drive ourselves around. Also, they printed out our boarding passes for our flight the next day. The only complaint I have is that they have two computers for the guests to use and there was a guy on one of […] them all night working on a presentation....this obviously was not the hotel's fault, but it made it difficult for all the other guests to have to share the remaining computer and ther was a line for it all night, so I was unable to use it. Not a big deal, but thought I would note it. The room was very clean and beautifully decorated. Overall, a wonderful experience. Mehr

First of all, this is a nice hotel. Whether or not it is a 4 star is debatable. I have stayed in several 4 star hotels that had better amenities. Breakfast food service was a bit lackadaisical. Don't be led to believe you are staying in a castle. What remains of the castle restoration is used by the restaurant facilities. More history exists on the […] site than castle property. However, before you book, decide if your objective is to get a night's sleep or if you want to party. Of the 3 nights we stayed, 2 night's sleep had to compete with raucous wedding parties (and I mean wild). Even though our rooms were actually quite far down the hall from the event itself, the noise, music and DJ blasting sounded at times like it was coming from the room next door. This continued well into the night. To top it off, apparently, one of the party guests thought it would be fun to set off the fire alarm at about midnight. I complained to the manager the next morning. Although he was courteous and comped our breakfasts in lieu of the poor night's sleep, he was not necessarily apologetic. He said that they were a "wedding hotel" as though the noise was a matter that should be accepted. Its too bad that a hotel with this potential has decided to cater to a night club atmosphere. The hotel is a bit out of the way from the city center. Although public transportation is accessible, it is an athletic 15 walk to the bus shelter. Mehr

I was lured to The Clontarf by a picture of its' facade. The castle look hooked me in and i must say that all the other features and aspects of this hotel were outstanding. Great coffee and delicious food at the coffee shop and restaurant were pleasant surprise. The close proximity (walking distance) to Royal Dublin Golf Club was outstanding. I loved […] the quiet surrounding neighborhood. Friendly staff and excellennt service made my stay AAA+++. Very nicely priced when I went in early July. I highly recommend The Clontarf and I will definitely stay there again. Mehr

We stayed here one night and two days on our way from San Francisco. We had stopped in Chicago the night before arriving early in the a.m., spent the day walking in Chicago and flew all night arriving early in Dublin the 2nd leg of the trip. We were pretty tired at arrival and the Clontarf was a perfect stop for such this layover because it was quiet […] and peaceful. We were allowed to check into our room early which was very much appreciated. The room was clean, comfortable and nicely decorated. We had a nice dinner and a good nights rest so we were ready to continue our journey the next day. Mehr

The staff at the Clontarf Castle Hotel really do add so much to a stay there: Denise, Sara, Sujit and the Concierge ("Ankur"?) The rooms are large and very modern, the beds are excellent, and cleanliness is superb. We loved the public areas, and the Fahrenheit Grill (with Sujit waiting on us on 2 occasions) was terrific. We would have enjoyed the Knight's […] Bar more had not the World Cup been on - it would have been lovely had they opened Indigo Lounge for more space and less "volume". They also only serve till 9:30 p.m., although there is 24-hour limited-menu room service. Getting into Dublin is easy via bus (cheap!) or cab (considerably more costly but very convenient) -- the City Centre is about 4.4 km away from the Castle. The bus comes to the left of the outermost Castle area - or you can walk a couple of short blocks to the seaside and save a bit, as the fare (exact change only!) is a little cheaper. Do try to see Howth, a nearby fishing village -- not much shopping, but fine seafood restaurants! We used the green Dublin "Hop On/Hop Off" bus (not the red ones) with live guide to orient ourselves to the City - a nice tour and we could i.d. where we wanted to go on a second day, as we bought a 3-day pass (serious savings over the single-day passes). Don't miss Kilmainham Gaol or the Book of Kells, of course, and all the National Museums are free... NICE! Getting back to the Castle is simple: either the bus which takes about 30-40 minutes, or a taxi (and there are plenty in the City at the Taxi Ranks), which is faster, of course, but more costly -- and not much faster if it's heavy traffic. Getting to and from the Castle for the Airport is a charm - taxi, naturally. Reception will happily call that cab for you - you'll likely be sad to leave, but very glad you came! Mehr

I have stayed here many times.... The only "changes" that are noticable that I would say was negative is the resturant service and food. It was not as good as in the past....Waiters meant well but were not trained and forgetful...And Food was certainly not a 4-star place....Chicken dry and boring! Our rooms were great...Clean and well appointed...However, […] cleaning staff were vacuuming emptied rooms at 8:30am...my only day to sleep in -- Horrible! Mehr

a wonderful place to stay--very atmospheric, great staff! wonderful deal--but beware ireland directions. signs are not the best and don't depend on north american directions. a great experience--and well worth it! don't forget to go to howth--a lovely location close to the hotel.

The Clontarf Castle is a must visit f you go to Dublin. Our trip was to London for our anniversary to attend both the Phantom of the Opera and the sequel, Love Never Dies. ( I hightly recommend seeing them both one right after the other. ) Then we decided to extend our trip and stay a few nights in Ireland, so we checked out the hotels. We decided to […] try a castle/hotel and this castle is amazing. From the stone tower out front to the suits of armour in the lobby to the Knights Bar, The Clontarf is like stepping back in time. It is warm and rustic and full of history. And the room and bed were very comfortable, too. We arrived in the morning from our flight across the pond and were gladly accomodated early to our room before check in. Room service was friendly and efficient. When we needed Ice for a headache at 2:00am the staff made every effort to meet out needs. We would most certainly recommend the Clontarf to our friends or anyone traveling to Dublin, only if it does not interfere with our plans to return and experience more Irish hospitality.
