Sehr angenehmer und freundlicher Empfang. Ohne weiteres zu Hilfeleistungen bereit. Liegt im Zentrum und bemüht sich um das Wohl der Gäste.

Charming old hotel. Large bed, probably too large for the rather small room.

This hotel is great if you like an old fashioned comfortable atmospher, which I do. Nice people, clean, comfortable room, not lots of amenities. Very convenient to walk in town and convention center, but not the best parking situation. I love the breakfast....but please, next time, some cut fruit, not just apples! Thanks for a nice stay!

I was a little worried about the ghosts but we never saw one. The furniture is beautiful and in my room I had a hand carved armoire. Lovely place. The elevator doesn't work but the bellman will bring everything to your room.

A classic, historic hotel with a lot of charactet. Just two draw backs: no elevator and very thin walls. Other than that I will be visiting the Monterey Hotel again.

for anyone who wants to get any sleep in this hotel, you will have to stay away from the street facing rooms, as they are single pane windows and even with ear plugs you won't be able to even think about sleep until past 2am on Thursday -Saturday. Everything else was fine, except that i didn't get any sleep before my bike race!

Nice vintage style hotel located in a wonderful location of Monterey. A tad noisy on weekend nights, but otherwise an ideal place to stay. Would definitely go back.

For a hotel built in 1906, it was still in lovely shape. I stayed in a queen room for two nights and a king room for one night - I recommend the king room for a few bucks more. The king room overlooked the active street below; nice to hear the sounds of the city activities at night - and on the 3rd floor, there was a peek of the ocean. very good assistance from the front desk in helping with restaurants and directions. Everyoen was very pleasant and accomodating

the hotel was beautiful, staff were courteous, friendly and helpful. rooms a bit small and no elevator, but the character of the hotel more than made up for it. perfect location. we'll definitely return!!

The room we stayed in was no what we expected. We can hear the pipes from the bathroom all night and there was dripping water from outside pipes as if it was raining hard. We were not asked how our stay was during check out if order for me to reflect my frustrations.

The walls are thin, and there is no elevator, but everyting else is just delightful. The staff is extremely helpful and friendly. And the furniture & decor are great. Lalapalooza restaurant, a few blocks away, is ideal. The hotel is very clean and just fine for what I was looking for. But if you want new rooms and all the ammenities, look elsewhere […] . Mehr

The valet backed another car into mine after I pulled into the loading zone. Later, a different valet lost my car keys. A passerby turned them into the police. With no elevator, the sound of guests tromping up and down the stairs filled my room. On one return to my room, the electronic room key stopped working. The water shut off for 10 minutes the […] next morning. Luckily, this was after my shower (but before brushing my teeth). The apple I grabbed for a snack on the drive home was mealy and I spit it out. Need I say more? Mehr

Hotel ok, clean and pretty. Too bad they claimed the elevator was not working, and our room was at the 4th floor! In addition, internet was not working... Ok, for just one night, we can stand that!

Close to Fisherman's Wharf , the Aquarium area and the Commercial Pier. After about 8:30pm in February, the shore side of Fisherman's Wharf/Commerical Pier feels scary to a lone female - quite a few vagrants/drunks making their presence known, and the eateries are closing down anyway. Up Alverado St the nightlife goes on later, and it feels much safer! Hotel […] had no functioning elevator, but staff very happy to carry luggage up/down Breakfast very basic continental style (but wouldn't be recognised in continental Europe!) This was a nice historic hotel built in 1904. Its not large and it doesnt even have any elevators (I think they are building one now though,) but the staff and location of the hotel in downtown Monterey is terrific. There is plenty of parking right around the corner for $7.00 a day, and its only a mile from the Aquarium. The rooms are small but comfortable. […] I took my wife there for our 10th anniversary and the hotel greeted us with a complimentary upgrade in room, a bottle of wine, and a nice card wishing us a happy anniversary. This is a wonderful boutique hotel just one block from the convention center. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The Maintenance Department quickly fixed a problem with the light in the bathroom. It would be nice if they would fix the elevator, as we had to climb stairs to the fourth floor each time we came or went. We would stay there again […] and would recommend it to others. Mehr

I did not enjoy this hotel at all. I had an extremely noisy room. I heard all the loud street noise & the other loud guests beside & above me. Bathroom was tiny. The sheets were super hard & scratchy. The bed was painful to sleep in. Not that i slept much with all the noise. Only good thing was the location. You get what you pay for!

The hotel was conviently located for our concert & other tourist site on the area.

This is not a super luxury hotel; it is a lovely small hotel, with friendly, helpful staff, small but clean and comfortable rooms, and perfectly located in downtown Monterey. My wife and Iexpect to return again and again-- and if we bring our kids, we'll spread out among two rooms, especially since the prices are very reasonable.

We loved the history of this hotel. Great room and location. Chris at the front desk was a real gem. A little tricky to park on the street. No lift could be a problem with less mobile guests.

This hotel built in 1904 was absolutely fantastic. The front desk personnel was very friendly and caring. The rooms were clean and well maintained. The hotel is centrally located to all the interesting sites. We will return to this hotel.

The staff was extremely helpful. Anything we needed, they were there for us. Nice continental breakfast.

Couldn't ask for a better location for the price.

After checking out, I asked the bellman the fastest way to get to the Monterey-Salinas Airport Shuttle. He offered to take my luggage and personally walked me over to where I wanted to go.

If you book this room, you should know that this is an old, historical hotel. Great efforts have been made to modernize the rooms while maintaining the look and feel of a hotel from 1904. Outside of the need for some new paint and repairs for some water damage here and there, the hotel is clean and comfortable. Our room was small, but we did not need […] lots of space and for the price, it was a great deal. The bed was a bit soft, but I've stayed in plenty of pricier hotels with soft beds. Also, you have to walk up the stairs. Some people just flip out about this, so I'm sure they've never been to Europe. The staff was very willing to help with luggage, so for a few bucks tip, one shouldn't have any worries if you are not up to carrying your bags up some stairs. Finally, if you are a light sleeper, you may not like this or any old hotel. You can hear footsteps and doors all night. That's how old buildings were designed and I'm sure that people were more respectful of others a hundred years ago - plus there were not TV's or radios back then. It is not horrible, but if you want a soundproofed room, you will not be happy. Many modern hotels also have paper thin walls. For the price, location, convenience and service, this hotel was a super deal - especially if you know about the few issues and those issues are not important to you. Mehr

We had a great time at time at the hotel. The room was very clean. The staff were polite and they upgraded our room. The walls are a bit too thin, but it is not too bad.

My brief stay at The Monterey Hotel was absolutely delightful. I must say that I am partial to historic hotels but this small, charming hotel was an unexpected treat. The staff was fabulous, helpful at every moment. A comfortable, relaxing hotel with a lovely ambiance in the main shopping area of Monterey. I can't say enough good things.

Paper thin walls in a throw back to the 1850s. Overall OK but could be retrofitted for an elevator. Older persons should request the 1st or 2nd floors at most.

Beautiful Victorian hotel right downtown in Monterey, within walking distance of Wharf and Cannery Row. Small but comfortable King room; tub/shower in bath. Good internet access in room; satisfactory continental breakfast. The sound from showers running in other rooms is quite loud because of the age of the building and lack of sound-deadening, but […] it is short-lived. We chose a room away from the street and it was quiet at night. They have constructed two new buildings attached to the old hotel, which should be open relatively soon. The new section will have an elevator and a parking garage. We enjoyed our stay and will return. Mehr

The location is excellent, but not disable friendly as no elevator but it is a historic hotel so is expected. Have stayed here before so know what to expect but staff is helpful so the stay is always good. Would repeat a stay at the Monterey Hotel as the price is right for high toursit area.

I wasn't expecting much of this hotel as I read the reviews prior to booking and only reason I chose this hotel was to save some money and liked the location. It wasn't worth it. There is Marriott right next to Monterey Hotel and I would suggest looking into that instead. Hotel is a historical landmark and nothing has been updated it feels like since […] the 50s. Walls are very thin, rooms are incredibly small, hot water in the shower impossible to control, not to mention sheets are so old I spent all night scratching. I barely was able to get any sleep. If you are looking to save some money Motel 6 I am sure wold be a better choice. Mehr

Place was just as expected from the reviews I read before booking. Asked for an upgraded room and was given a king with a view of the bay. Street was noisy when the bars closed down but you can always ask to get a room away from the street. No elevator was no big deal at all and in my opinion, most people could use the exercise. The valet parking ($17) […] uses the garage on Tyler St. so you could easily park there yourself for $7. Overall, this was a fantastic historical hotel with super nice staff in a very convenient location. Mehr

The staff was nice enough and the breakfast was ok. However those were the only good things about our stay. There is no elevator (a problem when they put you on the 4th floor) and there is no parking. You have to pay to park in a public parking garage that is a few blocks away. Also, the room we stayed in felt like a closet, it was very small and cramped. […] I will not be staying at this hotel again. Mehr

This Hotel is always a treat to stay at , but they coyld have a better breakfast than bagels for the cost of staying here.

This is a well-maintained old hotel in the middle of downtown. A couple of blocks from the Fishermen's Wharf area and a pleasant mile and a half walk to the Aquarium. Rooms are on the small side.

The location of the Monterey Hotel is quite convenient. You can walk to just about everything, including Cannery Row, and the Monterey Aquarium, if you are in fair shape. The hotel is old, but well maintained, and my room was very nice. The problem is not the fault of the hotel, but if your room fronts the street, as mine did, you suffer until approximately […] 12:30 AM, as the conversations of people walking down Alverado St. seem to flow into the room, and it is unwelcome. Nice hotel from the outside and the inside/lobby area is very cute, but the rooms were nothing to brag about. In a good location yes, very close to pier and nightlife. Bed was extreamly uncomfortable I woke up witha back pain the next morning. Not sure if they changed the sheets form the last time the room was used so that was a bit concerning and the […] pillows were really small, decor pellow size not even standard. Room was quite small as well with not much living space besides the bed. Suites are supposedly nice but I dont think I'll be giving that a try next time I go. Mehr

The hotel itself is an old building and very cool if you like that sort of thing. They have an elevator but it is non-functional because it must preserved as is since it is a historic structure. The result is you may have to walk to the fourth floor. We were there on a Saturday night. We had the windows open and there were a couple of clubs down the […] street. Pretty noisy. Mehr

The hotel was very nice. Missed the part on the website about not having a working elevator (we were on the 4th floor!). Beware of the water in the shower! It goes from luke warm to scolding hot in seconds (someone in a room close by must have flushed a toilet or started their shower). Couldn't find a happy medium to the water temperature to save my […] life. Loved the view from our room. Overall the hotel was nice, it was like staying in a vintage hotel, a piece of history. This an older hotel, hence the no elevators, but is very charming. When we checked in, we were upgraded to a suite with a fireplace. Score! Our room was located on the 4th floor and even though it was a little annoying that we had to walk up stairs to get to our suite, it wasn't that bad. The room itself was very nice and clean. There's no sound abatement, […] so you can hear outside noise. I woke up at 6am to the sound of the coast guard trainees doing their morning run and chants. For me, it wasn't a big deal because once they passed my window I was able to go back to sleep, but if you're a light sleeper, you may need some earplugs. The location of the hotel is good; about a 30 minute walk to Cannery Row. Overall I would recommend this hotel. Mehr

Wonderful location, quaint hotel..only downside was no elevator..not an issue if you are on the 2nd floor but going up 4 flights of stairs at a victorian era hotel is a bit of a challenge with luggage. Staff are great...location is perfect easy walking to everything. would stay again but perhaps request a room on a lower floor
