The Fairmont Banff Springs - Banff

Weeklong stay lived up to expectations. Only problem: hot water sometimes slow to reach the room. Staff friendly and helpful without being obstrusive; splendid views; good value for the money. One other note, though: When are hotels, especially ones as classy as Fairmont, going to start having high-def programming on their high-def TVs?

The hotel was as spectacular as expected. Every request and need was met without hesitation or question. The only complaint I had was the Accomodation department. The location of my room was near a service area for the accomodation staff and we were rudely woken at 7:45am with loud talking and laughter by the accomodation staff as they were getting […] ready for the day. This lasted for approx 45 minutes. It was obvious that it was the accomodation staff as the noise was all in Tagala and was easy to recognize. After we woke up we filed a complaint with the Customer Service department, and by the next morning we slept through without any noise. Again, this is the type of service and experience you would come to expect from the Fairmont. Mehr

Loved everything about the hotel, lovely location and surroundings, wonderful and very helpful staff.

If you stay at this hotel, make sure you get a valley view room that is not facing the street (aka the mountains). Without air conditioning, windows must remain open at night so early morning street noise (tours bus back up signals beginning at 7:00 am and power washing generator at 8:00 am) is annoying during vacation. Unmatched beauty and setting […] but not worth the extra cash for the room. Arrived at 1:00 a.m. No one on duty at the front entrance. The room was "not ready" per the front desk and the hotel was "fully booked." Finally found a room in the conference center across the street from the main hotel. Room was very nice when we were finally able to check in. Bow Valley Grill was closed for a private event so we did not eat at the hotel. Banff is a wonderful city. Because the hotel is a bit away from the city center, I would stay in town for my next visit. Plenty of nice hotels close to shopping and great restaurants. Would recommend staying here only if you think it is important to stay at the most famous hotel in the area. Mehr

Stayed on the gold floor. Room was available from 1030am which we didn't expect, but were delighted with. Staff were excellent, room was lovely. Only two minor gripes, first, the air vent made an annoying buzzing noise that we fixed by putting a paper jam in. Second, we were not told how long it would take to retrieve our car from valet parking, which […] made for a cold wait and ultimately made us late. Overall a wonderful stay. Mehr

Great hotel , service was good.View from room, on valley side, was beautiful. Charging &25.00 for parking & $13.00 or $14.00 for internet was a little much.

We were tired when we arrived ... the chek-in process was long. Our rooms were not ready, so we just wanted to go to the lounge and sit and get a drink. No seats ,,,, tons of people everywhere, standing with no place to sit. A hotel of this stature, and this popular should definitely have more than one cocktail lounge available for its guests. Kind welcome at the front gate, but when I checked in, I had wait 15 min. for the receptionist. It was disappointing. Valet parking was great. Room was clean, but some old. No bathrobes were ready, no sleepers. Location is great (Gondola, Bow falls).

I absolutely loved my experience with the Banff Fairmont. Courteous, friendly staff and comfortable rooms. Be sure and go down to the onsite pub and walk around to the river below. Stunning setting and scenery. We ate at the pub a couple of times but avoided some of the pricier restaurants onsite. What clued us in was the $16 cocktails. Didn't expect […] that. Hotel is extremely pricey for meals and services. Was disappointed that the "pool" shown on the fairmont banff springs website is actually the spa pool which you don't have access to and can't even see unless you pay upwards of $70+ per day for use. The hotel is a popular destination even for those not staying so at any given time was very crowded in the lobby and outside. We spent our nights there but during the day went on long beautiful hikes and drives to take in the pristine beauty of the surrounding area. I gave the hotel 5 stars because service is outstanding, staff friendly, and rooms very comfortable. Would I stay there again absolutely. Mehr

We stayed a few nights in this historic hotel and thoroughly enjoyed the location, the hotel and the amenities of the hotel. One of the most beautiful hotels in an unbelievable mountain setting and yet very comfortable and homey. I would recommend it to anyone.

Parking is extra $25.00 or $33.00 per day

We were visiting Banff for the first time and decided to look up room rates for this amazing castle-like hotel. We found through hotels.com a very reasonable rate for a room with 2 queen size beds. We checked-in with our 2 small children and the room we booked was unavailble, so we received a complimentary upgrade to the executive suite. We also received […] 2 coupons for free milk and cookies for the kids, which was a nice touch! The room itself was spacious and comfortable. We also ate at one of the restaurants and the food was fantastic. The only downside was there was no water in the pool but the kids had fun in the kiddie pool. For a fancy hotel we never felt out of place, even when the kids were running and screaming. a Great stay, cant wait to go back! Mehr

There were only two complaints: 1. The service and food at the Bow Grill was pathetic. They burned my child's pizza and did not cook my wife's steak to order. They did replace these and provide credit but it took a long time to get the replaced food and we had lost our appetitie waiting for it. 2. The bathroom's have a sliding door that does not close […] completely. Mehr

Absolutely gorgeous and historic hotel in beautiful setting in the Canadian Rockies. Great staff, amazing golf course and spa. Unfortunate power outtage which put their swimming pool out of service while we were there (would have been nice to get a discount for that). Overall though, fantastic hotel. Highly recommended---we'll be back!

We were very dissapointed with the room in general, was too small for the price, the view was overlooking a stone rooftop. The electricity was out for 4 hours, couldn't go into the pool, all the restaurants were closed with the exception of the Grill, that fed the entire hotel. We weren't able to get a reservation until 9:30pm. One would think that […] they would have offered some sort of a discount not have electricity from 5 pm - 9:30 pm (prime time). Mehr

LIKE: .Amazing view of the mountains from the bedroom. .Quiet location. DISLIKE: .Over-priced. Only worth it if you get promotional rates. You get get the same view at other parts of town. .Away from town, a little far to walk if you do not have your own transportation. .No free overnight parking if you drive .No complimentary WIFI

Overall I liked the hotel. The rooms were nice and the restaurants had great food. It is quite the walk from the parkade to the hotel though. that was probably the only thing I didn't like.

The Reception staff was most helpful and polite. The Waitress at the lounge was most friendly and helpfull. Even though our reservation was lost and we did not receive the pet friendly ammenities advertised, the people and area did turn out to be beautiful.

This is a well run hotel. The staff were all very pleasant and professional. While the hotel is some 100 years old, it is maintained and updated very well and the character and history are a prime reason why one would want to stay there.

It certainly was not my first time at the Banff Springs or will it be the last. Everytime we go we are remined of it's timeless beauty and elegance. One feels like royalty when staying at the Banff Springs.

We were shocked by the low level of service at this hotel. We could have gotten over the meagerness of the updates, but the fact that we had to call multiple times for any housekeeping service revealed the lack of organization and dedication at the hotel. First, we were told there were no more bathrobes, and no one ever considered following up on our […] comfort. We also had to call to have our sheets changed, even though they had delivered our room service breakfast on a tray to our bed, where crumbs had naturally fallen. When we went to indicate which bed needed to be changed, we found a note from a previous guest, begging, "CHANGE THIS BED, PLEASE!!!" The staff had never changed out the literature in the room, so that previous guest's complaint card was still there, as well as his or her breakfast menu, all filled out and ready to go. Then, the housekeeping staff never replenished our coffee, even though we called and were assured that they would eventually come. Next, I called for toothpaste because I could not find mine, and no one ever brought any to our room - that went on overnight, so I could not brush my teeth! The hotel restaurants and bars are outrageously expensive, and they seem to pride themselves on exclusivity. If you don't have a reservation, they will not seat you, even if there are open tables. I suggest persistence if you find yourself in this position, because someone will finally give you a seat. It worked on two different occasions for us. Finally, the hotel and the ski shuttle were not in communication about the changing schedules, and we were left to wait in -25 degree weather, wondering when and if the bus would eventually come. The hotel took no responsibility for the snafu, and in fact, they loudly tried to deflect the blame onto the shuttle company. The hotel's job is to serve as a liaison between the guests and the services, because we cannot possibly know the details of a service so far removed from our daily lives. Yes, I am on a soap Mehr

On a recent trip to Calgary I took my girlfriend up to the Banff Springs for the night for what was supposed to be a romantic dinner/stay. The room was unbelievably expensive for what it was but I expected that given that it was the Springs. The plan was to check in, tour the hotel and then get dressed up and have a wonderful romantic dinner. I had […] originally intended to take her to the Banffshire (which is the nicest of the restaurants in the hotel) but was informed by the concierge that the Banffshire was closed that night (for no apparent reason) so I would have to make a reservation at another restaurant in the hotel (there are 6 or 7 of them). Looking at the various menus I decided on the Bow Valley Grill which appeared to have a nice looking selection of steaks/rack of lamb/prime rib, etc. I made a reservation there for 8 pm. We got all dressed up, and headed to the Bow Valley Grill where we were told that they were not serving the regular menu that night (again for no apparent reason), but instead were only offering a buffet which consisted of some cafeteria-type dishes in warming trays and a bunch of kids running around. I asked if there was an actual sit-down restaurant we could go to for a romantic meal but was told that all the other restaurants were now full. They suggested that we try the lounge, where reservations weren't required. We managed to grab the last table in the lounge and ordered steaks off of the lounge menu. What arrived were two cheeseburgers (again for no apparent reason). At this point I was quite angry and asked to speak to the manager. The manager who arrived was probably the oldest person working in the hotel, by which I mean he looked old enough to buy a beer. He offered to remove the cheeseburgers from our bill (which we didn't even order!) and brought over a bottle of Moet from which he poured us two small glasses and then left with the rest of the bottle. I stayed for one night on Dec 18 2010, and my room was really cold even with the temperature at the highest. Also one of the lamp head was broken and ripped from the inside. For the price people pay to stay at this hotel, you would expect much better maintenance. And when i told them about this during checkout, i expected to be reimbursed some of my […] money for this but instead they just gave me my receipt and said have a good day sir. Such a majestic hotel. The hottub and outdoor winter pool is superb, especially after a day of skiing. Should promote that there's a skating rink there. Didn't realize till too late. Downtown Banff is 5 Mins by car or 15 mins to walk, so very convenient.

This was our first time to stay at the Fairmont at Banff Springs. The hotel is very nice and truly exhibited great service from the moment we arrived.

My husband and I visited this hotel 16 years ago. Consequently we decided to visit again in 2010. The actual accommodation was fine - as expected. However, we were disappointed with the restaurant arrangements. Due to closures there was a severe lack of choice. Our experience of Waldhaus was not up to expectations and we did not have the chance to eat […] at the Italian restaurant. We cannot understand why so many eating establishments are closed at the same time!! Disappointed! Mehr

Hotel Staff was very friendly and efficient Rooms are small for price but it is a castle like atmosphere and I am the serf. Parking with valet was expensive but convienent. All tips were included in the price. You could park on the hill a block away for free from 9 PM to 8 AM if you wanted or any 4 hr period during the day.. Old World charm with all the modern conveniences. Rooms were clean and well stocked. Pool, gym and exercise area wer clean and well stocked as well. Very busy place so you need to plan in advance to have the valet bring your car around. Staff are very knowledgeable about the area and the attractions in and around town. Checked into our room. It was supposed to be a king bed - it was a king and a fold out cot - both unmade. The room dirty, dusty with mold was cultivating in the shower. After being on hold with the front desk for 10 minutes they have us a new room. While the new room was properly made up and had a veiw - it was still relatively dirty, and dusty. The […] television was a 20-year old room heater that in no way could be positioned so you could see it from the bed and the room decor was plain and uninspiring - felt like a motel 6 with and old TV. Beautiful Hotel and great restaurants. The indoor pool was antiquated and swampy, and if I had paid any more for the tiny room with a queen size bed I would not have been satisfied. Views from hotel magnificent. Exorbitant charge to use the spa.

The only bad part was you HAD to make reservations in any of the 13 restaurants; we ended up eating at one of the 9 bars.

A pure pleasure. The amenities and restaurants are wonderful. 32 meter indoor pool! This is not our first stay and each time the staff and hospitality make it worth every penny.

It is a grande old hotel that is an attraction in itself in Banff. Many people-- crowds of people there at the hotel but it really is a very lovely, special place. Not my favorite hotel but a nice and probably the best place to stay in Banff, price being no object. or room price did not come up to too much more than less attractive options

This hotel had the best service of any hotel we have visited by far. We have traveled and stayed at many 5 star hotels but the service we received was exceptional. Not only did they have breathtaking rooms and views but the staff went out of there way to make our visit one to remember. Upon checking we had the chance to upgrade to the Gold Floor, this […] included private lounge, breakfast, private concierge and various other perks that I will leave for you to discover. This was well worth the upgrade and would highly suggest this option to their travelers. We would highly recommend this hotel to everyone and we are looking forward to a return visit. Mehr

The Banff Fairmount hotel is a beautiful building in a beautiful setting. However, it is mainly a convention and tour group hotel. We had an upgraded room with the smallest bathroom I had ever seen. I picked this hotel as I wanted a little luxury during our 3-stop tour of the Rockies. The hotel is situated in a fabulous location with all the expected amenities. However, I found the car-parking very expensive for a non-city location. We were disappointed not to dine in any of the restaurants at the Fairmont, as they were fully-booked. The hotel […] is not suitable for wheelchair users to reach all parts of the communal areas. At one stage, we were taken through the staff corridor to avoid yet more steps. Mehr

This hotel speaks of excellence. It is very well located and in itself is a must see landmark. Amenities are complete and service impeccable.

It was an amazing place to spend our honeymoon. The staff were extermly helpful and courteous. The veiws from the hotel were breath taking. The location has an easy walk down in to Banff. The entire stay was absolutely wonderful.
