Lafayette Hotel & Swim Club - San Diego

Hallo Zusammen, ich kann dieses Hotel wirklich weiterempfehlen - aufgrund veralteter Bewertungen hatte ich anfangs Bedenken und bin deshalb vor der Buchung einfach mal vorbeigefahren - Das Team war sehr nett, die Zimmer sind frisch saniert und in einem sehr guten Zustand. Zudem gab es noch ein kleines Frühstück dazu, dass ich eigentlich gar nicht gebucht […] hatte. Für den PKW gibt es eine abgeschlossene Tiefgarage und auch die Anlagen im Hotel waren in einem ordentlichen Zustand - Gemessen an dem Preis, den ich dafür bezahlte also eine Klasse Wahl! Ich habe nach meiner Besichtigung direkt gebucht und die ganze Woche dort verbracht! Mehr

Das Hotel wurde im Nov. 2011 generalsaniert. Anscheinend wurden mehr als 3 Mio. investiert. Leider sind dabei einige Details im Originalzustand verblieben bzw nur notdürftigste neu gestrichen, daher wird es wohl bald Investitionen nötig machen. Das Personal gibt sich gr. Mühe und ist sehr motiviert. Die Zimmer sind klein, aber sehr geschmackvoll saniert. […] Wir haben in eine Suite gewechselt und hatten dort ein zus. Wohnzimmer, Kästen und Terrasse. Leider sind im zweiten Zimmer aber keine Betten (zB für die Kinder) vorgesehen, sodass wir die Kinder erst recht wieder bei uns im Zimmer hatten. Mehr

We were pleasantly suprised by the quaintness of the hotel and the size of the room. The room was spacious and clean. As requested they gave us a room in a quiet area and we were undisturbed. The only negative was that there wasn't much counter space in the bathroom and there was no mirrors anywhere else to get ready by.

I am handicap and facility was not accomodating for handicap people. It was very noisy which made it hard to sleep. Diner food was good at breakfast and waitress was very nice.

The lobby is absolutely gorgeous!! And the pool area is super nice love it!! The employees were very nice.. I would definitely recommend this hotel

bed was great, place looks cool, has a parking garage, about 10 mins from zoo and petco park. Service meh, because place is old sounds carry, 2 bullet holes in my window.

The Lafayette was great. Very clean and comfortable. I'd definitely stay again.

From this hotel, you can be downtown or the beach in less than 10 minutes. The hotel has recently been renovated and the rooms are very comfortable. There is a great pizza restaurant practically next to the hotel(especially if you like New York style pizza...best I've found on the west coast).

Poor on amenities and decor. Hotel has great potential and it appears as though the hotel is in the middle of renovation but needs a professional's touch. Furniture around hotel is more than eclectic and has the feeling of a garage sale. This dated hotel has a great history and the possibilities for greatness are there. I've booked other hotels on line and have been disappointed when I got there, they didn't look anything like the pictures posted. I was so pleased when my husband and I arrived to celebrate my birthday and the hotel and room looked just like the pictures posted. Thank You! For the price, I was expecting so much more. This location is no where near what I was expecting. The pictures are extremely misleading...romanticized until you drive into the neighborhood...lots of renovations, uneven flooring...motel style...no elevator...like an old school. I was beyond disappointed and my guest threatened to leave.... Will not stay […] there again. The same price got us at the courtyard marriott...keep looking...unless you're trying to save a buck and don't care where you're at. Mehr

The suite is roomy and great for families. Since the kids' room has its own bathroom (and TV) we were able to get shower after pool quickly and have some privacy. It's too bad they didn't renovate the windows, bathroom tiles, nor interior doors- its a bit janky. And though we stayed for 3 nights, they were always out of chalk for the chalkboard in the […] kids room (Is it for show only?) and low on pool towels. It's not as fancy as the website looks- more for budget minded than aesthetics seeking. And it is loud at night so be ready. Mehr

If you plan on being out and about and just want a comfortable place to sleep, this is a good spot. The room was NICELY DECORATED and the BEDS WERE COMFORTABLE (despite the bad review that I had read about them). My only two complaints were that the rooms DO NOT HAVE A MICROWAVE OR MINI-FRIDGE, so leftovers are left to spoil. I asked the front desk […] if we could switch to the room next door that had a fridge, and was told that this was one of two "show" rooms that they don't really rent out unless at capacity. My only other complaint: NO FAN IN BATHROOM AND THE FLOOR WAS SLIPPERY and took a long time to dry after showering. Shower was a walk-in model so water escaping was inevitable. Also, taking a "#2" while my girlfriend was at the sink right outside the door was less than discrete and there was no fan to cover up the noise. The LOCATION IS NICE AND CENTRAL to a lot of shopping and just a short distance from Balboa Park. The surrounding area is a little seedy, but not enough to warrant concern - I felt safe walking the streets at night. The lobby is very nicely decorated and the POOL IS REALLY NICE, including good reggae music and a bartender on staff. FREE PARKING. HELPFUL STAFF. Overall it is a good hotel for the price. Mehr

The walls are super thin but a good stay and it's near the zoo. They don't offer a free breakfast. You might want to stay for a night or two but not a week.

The room was nicely remodeled. The room was always clean when we got back. Best of all, no loud city noises at night while we were sleeping. Very quiet. We were very close to our tourist locations. Awesome breakfast joints around the area, in driving distance, I'd say 7 to 10 minutes away. I'd definitely stay here again!

I loved this place!!! It was so cute with the history of the hotel. The rooms were clean, the staff was great!!! I wish they had a free breakfast but the places to eat around the hotel were amazing!

The hotel was very nice. The service was good, the room clean and the beds comfortable, but a bit small for our family of four. Should have gone for the Suzy Suite. The bathroom had no counter on which to place our toiletries which was a bit of a struggle. The neighborhood was pretty sketchy and because of that, I would not recommend this hotel for […] families with kids. Mehr

The hotel is old but they have done a pretty good job modernizing it. The poolside room is definitely worth the rate. The pool area is nice...not great, but good The bar was a little overpriced, but hotel bars usually are. Parking is minimal, but isn't too much of an issue. I will definitely stay here again.

The room was clean, but very cheap with the supplies such as shampoo, conditioner, soap, and cups for the coffee. They only give you one day supply and if you stay more days they do not supply it. And parking was a hectic. The room was so stuffy. Also when I booked the room it said complimentary breakfast but when i got there they told me the promotion […] was over only complimentary coffee. I stayed in this 5 nights with my wife and it was a wonderful vacation. The reception personnels was very helpful and kind. The room was on the pool , wide, clean and confortable. There was a breakfast , and although it was simple but quite satisfactory . I recomment this hotel for any family to live happy days in San Diego .

I travel a lot - I would not stay at this hotel myself - but I live somewhat close to it so put family members up there sometimes - cleanliness is of paramount importance to me and while the reconstruction over the past couple of years has helped, its not a pristine new place - so expect some pimples - and the decor in the lobby looks like a thrift […] store exploded - they are trying to do french country, flaked paint, rust, et cetera, but it looks weird on the barely cleaned up mid-centry U.S. decor. Pool is nice feature - but not heated. Lots of kids partying all night so if you're a light sleeper you wont' want to be near the pool - and that is the only place to be at this hotel. And they've done away with the free breakfast, though they have a new restaturant. Over all, I would reccomend it but with all these caveats. Mehr

A great bargain; you'll like it.

Overall it was a nice hotel. Parking wasnt the greatest. people were parked there with no permit. my 1 year son could open the door if it wasnt for the top lock, but it still creeped the door open a bit i was scared he would smash his had. we stayed by the pool area, very nice. doors were child proof (A++++). the only dislike were our neighbors. kids […] were playing (8pm) and they called hotel on us to keep kids quiet. i would recommend this hotel. staff were very nice Mehr

Great place for the money. Nice property but the neighborhood seems to have fell apart around them. It's a nice clean and well maintained property and it's a great deal. They're doing renovations to make it even nicer. Not posh but clean and an awesome deal formthe money.

Lafayette Hotel at San Diego needs to clean their hotel properly. How can a hotel with rusting pipe lines exist in the 21st Century? All the stains on the floor made me sick. Noise pollution is among the problems associated with this hotel.

Very comfortable beds, the rooms were really clean, and staff was really nice. I've stayed at lots of hotels in San Diego and will defineatly come back to this one again. The location really isn't too bad being off of the freeway a bit.

Hotel had lots of 1940s type charm, great pool, and spacious rooms. Not deluxe, though. Service friendly and efficient.Neighborhood kind of funky, but interesting restaurants across the street, and a great organic market within walking distance Two negatives: The continental breakfast is skimpy and not very appetizing, and wifi hookup is erratic and […] extremely slow. We really enjoyed staying in this hotel. The staff could have been more friendly; the front desk lady was really ornery. The swimming pool is nice too; does not have a hot tub. The room was really nice, up to date, and the bed was comfortable. Location was really close to downtown and about ten minutes from the beach. Overall very nice.

If u stay in the mansion and not in one of the pool side villas, then you won't get much sleep since the hotel is right on a very busy road

Very friendly staff. Newly remodeled and quite clean with comfortable beds--though pillows could have been better. Very large room and charming bathroom. Lovely balcony overlooking the pool. You definitely got and bit of "yesteryear" feeling. However, my room phone did not work. They sent someone up the first day, but he could not fix... Did not get […] fixed during my 2 1/2 day stay. Don't know why they did not offer to move me...but how often do you use the house phone these days anyway. I just could not call the front desk for information or to check on some package arrivals. No Hotel restaurant or bar and the "attached" bar left a lot to be desired. It was very convenient to my business location needs. Not so bad for the money; after all I was not paying for the Ritz. Not sure I would stay there again and would recommend it only with disclaimers. Mehr

Will stay again! Hotel redone so nice and clean!

First off, the room was small and awkward. Neither I nor my companion could use the toilet because it was wedged in so close to the wall. On the shower, hot is cold and cold is hot. Nice. You can't sit on the edge of the bed, otherwise the whole mattress flips up and dumps you on the floor. They have "security" that works nights, which basically […] means somebody who walks around and harasses anybody who happens to be outside. Doesn't matter if you're a guest or not--huge display of attitude from security staff. There are several ashtrays around, but apparently you can't smoke near any of them. In the room there was a card explaining that it hadn't been renovated yet, which is I guess why I found a cockroach in the bed on the last morning. Positives... hmmmm.... well, the neighborhood isn't too bad, and you can walk to pretty much anywhere in Hillcrest or North Park. But I wouldn't stay here again, not if they PAID me. I recommend you stay somewhere else... just about anywhere else. Sleep on the beach if you have to, just don't sleep here. Mehr

This is the perfect location if you are trying to a get a lot done in San Diego. My girlfriend and I were there for 3 days and we got to see Gaslamp, La Jolla, Mission Bay and Coronado because of this hotel's great location. The room was clean and very nostalgic as we had a separate T.V. and living room. Even though they were finishing up construction […] in the hotel, we did not hear anything and it did not interfere with their hospitality. The breakfast was sufficient with fresh fruits and cheeses. Make sure you rent a car if you are going there for a vacation so you can experience all San Diego has to offer. Mehr
