Gutes Hotel, in unmittelbarer Nähe zur Wallstreet , am südlichsten Ende des Broadway. Sehr nette Bedienung. Enges aber sauberes Zimmer mit zwei Kingsize-Betten.

Großes Zimmer, gute Betten. Bei Zimmern nach hinten raus kann man bei offenem Fenster schlafen. Internet fürs Zimmer zu teuer. Im Bad leichter Renovierungsstau. Frühstück im Hotelrestaurant empfehlenswert, sehr nette Bedienung. Infostand für Sightseeing im Hotel sehr gut. Karten tlw. kostenfrei. Mexik. Pub +Chinarestaurant ca. 200 m entfernt. U-Bahn ca. 400m weg.

Wir waren sehr zufrieden mit dem Hotel. Das Zimmer war sauber, zweckmäßig und der Service freundlich und aufmerksam. In direkter Nähe befinden sich viele Sehenswürdigkeiten (Stock Exchange, 9/11 Memorial, Trinity Church) und man erreicht 3 verschiedene Subway-Stationen innerhalb weniger Gehminuten. Außerdem die Fähre nach LongIsland bzw. den Anleger für die Boote zur Freiheitsstatue und Elis Island. Da an der Wallstreet Abends/ Nachts nicht ganz so viel los ist, kann man - für NYC-Verhältnisse - relativ ruhig schlafen, v.a. im Vergleich mit der Gegend rund um den TimesSquare usw. Ein kleines, aber feines, familiengeführtes (so schien es) Hotel, dass wir auf alle Fälle weiterempfehlen würden!

"Topp Lage"
Hotel liegt sehr gut und direkt an der 33rd Street Subway und gleich um die Ecke das Empire. Sehr gute Lage also für nen Besuch in Uptown Manhattan. Wir waren sehr zufrieden mit der Lage und nur das enge und GRAUE Zimmer mit Blick auf die Hauswand des nächsten Gebäudes trübte ganz leicht den Gesamteindruck und später war es eh egal, da man in NYC nich […] tim Hotelzimmer hockt, sondern in der City unterwegs ist. Ich werde es wieder buchen, da auch der Service freundlich (wie immer in den USA) und Hilfsbereit ist. Wer günstig in NYC paar Tage nächtigen möchte und keinen Wert auf Luxuszimmer legt aber besser hausen möchte als in nem Hostel, der ist im Grand Union bestens aufgehoben. Mehr

Was das Besondere dieses Hotels ausmacht, ist nicht der Zustand des Hotels oder der Zimmer, die viel zu klein und ohne Tageslicht sind, sondern die Lage in unmittelbarer Nähe touristischer Sehenswürdigkeiten. sehr einfaches Hotel aber die Lage ist super. Für New York ist das Hotel auch günstig.Man sollte allerdings keinen Komfort erwarten aber alles ist super sauber und alle sind sehr freundlich. Wir nehmen immer wenn wir nach New York fliegen das Hotel.

sehr angenehmes ambiente. wirkt etwas gedrungen aber das ist in new york normal. auf dem zimmer ist klima, fernseher, föhn usw. gemütlich eingerichtet... zum schlafen und ausruhen reicht es allemal.

"Ausblick"
Nur ein geringer Teil der Zimmer bietet einen Ausblick auf die Straße (32St). Wer einen Blick in den dunklen Innenhof scheut, der sollte bei der Buchung darauf achten. Dafür sind die Zimmer erstaunlich ruhig.

Klasse Unterkunft für die Gäste, für die die Unterkunft nicht der Schwerpunkt ihres Aufenthaltes in der Stadt darstellt und die auf Status verzichten können. Gut zu erreichen, sauber und ordentlich! Zum Schlafen optimal, kein Luxus, einfach funktional.

"Sauber und sehr zentral gelegen"
Sind 7x seit 1997 in diesem Hotel gewesen. Es hat ältere und neu renovierte Zimmer, wobei die alten nicht empfehlenswert sind. Die Zimmer sind klein aber sauber. Das Personal ist freundlich und zuvorkommend und teilweise auch schon 15 Jahre und länger dort angestellt, was für eine gewisse kontinuität im Standard garantiert. Wer Luxus will ist hier falsch, […] wer aber Zentral zu einem bezahlbaren Preis übernachten will, ist hier gut beraten. Das Deli Silo gegenüber ist empfehlenswert, hat immer frische Gerichte und eine grosse Auswahl. Weiter ist an der 29st zwischen Madison Ave und Park Ave. das Restaurant Campanile schnell zu Fuss erreichbar und bietet auch sehr gute Speisen an (Ital. Küche). Insgesamt empfehlenswert. Mehr

Super zentral gelegen, Hotel ohne grossen schnickschnack; ideal wenn der Schwerpunkt auf Aktivitäten ausserhalb des Hotels gesetzt wird. Zimmer und Hotel sehr sauber. Zimmer gegen Innenhof sehr ruhig, wir konnten sogar mit offenem Fenster schlafen... Super Wahl und jederzeit wieder!

Was there for business. Great location and cool neighbouhood with a nice wine bar around the corner. Rooms are small but clean enough.

the location is pretty good: 10 min. from penn station and 15 min. to times square. had some problems with the shower - sometimes it jumped from hot to cold by itself. there's free wifi, but if you don't have a laptop or a smartphone you'll have to pay for using their internet computers, which sucks... .the staff seemed ok but i didn't really talk to […] them. "Hotel Grand Union - NYC"
Very friendly and helpful staff, clean room, affordable, excellent location for Time Square and other sights – no taxi or rental car required. Hotel Grand Union was exactly what we needed. No complaints at all - we will stay there again.

3 blocks from Penn Station! and near many subway lines. Very friendly & accommodating staff (let us check in 2 hours early w/ no penalty). Loved the cucumber soaps they set out for us!!
This hotel is very comfortable, its staff is very polite and friendly and it is within easy access to the main business areas. Its main drawback is that the room eis not equipped with a kettle.

Some people give it bad reviews others give it good reviews like myself. If you are just looking for a place to sleep and dont mind not having wi-fi inside your room this is the place for you. The cleaning ladies r consistent, the front desk people are friendly, and its in a great location for tourist attractions (if youre into that) or just for overall […] getting around Manhattan. Hotel overall was good but last day porter advised us hotel taxi to the airport with guaranteed price of USD 61 incl.tax for 4 people. Then at the airport taxi driver have asked us for USD 80 and when we paid cash and the rest of USD 10 by credit card, he transcribed imprint of the amout of USD 10 to USD 40!!! "Convenient spot, fair hotel, no in-room internet"
If you're looking for an inexpensive place to stay, this hotel is a decent choice with a few caveats. It's reasonably quiet and the rooms have the essentials, assuming you don't need wifi in the room or need an iron or coffee maker either. (I use tethering, so the lack of wifi didn't matter to me.) The rooms and furniture are old, and everything is […] need of updating. That said, if you just need somewhere to sleep and that doesn't bother you, the location right on the 6 line and walking distance to Penn Station is worth it. The Front Desk staff was rude and husseled me out of USD 20 for checking out late even thought the hotel was empty on a monday night and i had already requested for a late checkout. The internet service is not free and the rooms are very small.

"Disappointed"
I went with this hotel because I thought it would be a nice place to stay during the long weekend away from home with my fiancee. While the room was clean and the bed comfortable I was a bit disappointed overall. The room service booklet that they provide was out of date and when I called to try to get room service the phone didn't work. After calling […] the front desk three times I was able to find out that they charge you extra to "open" the phone lines, something I've never heard of, and for the amount that I paid I don't think I should be charged an extra eighty cents to call for room service. After asking them to open the phone lines for me the man at the front desk did all he could to keep me from ordering room service and instead wanted me to go to the cafe that is connected to the hotel since it was "cheaper." I for one, do not wish to be forced into eating somewhere that doesn't have the food I want. I am a vegetarian and all the cafe offers is burgers and the like. Eventually my fiancee and I just ended up walked around the city to find something to eat. The shower was the other main thing that annoyed me. The hot water wouldn't kick in until the hot water knob was turned to it's limits and then the water fluctuated a ridiculous amount. One second it was freezing, even though the cold water wasn't on, and then it was scorching hot. Also, the mini fridge didn't keep things very cold. My fiancee and I had to throw away two small cartons of milk that we were going to use for our cereal that we purchased off site, but, unfortunately, couldn't use. And another side note. I wouldn't recommend this hotel for anyone in a wheelchair or anything that requires a large amount of space. The halls are all but two feet wide, sans exaggeration and the rooms are cornered together very tightly. Mehr

The location is excellent, only 2 blocks from the Empire State Building and a 10 minute walk to Times Square. The hotel itself is comfortable, small rooms and clean. The staff are friendly and there's a nice cafe attached (Captain Cafe). I'd definitely recommend Grand Union for your stay in New York.

The hotel room smelled like urine and overall just seemed filthy. They have a clause of no guests after 11pm, however thankfully due to the condition of the hotel I would have no interest of bringing someone back to the room. We stayed for 4 nights. Location is central (near Empire State Building). Room was clean, and the counter help was prompt and friendly (our room was missing the TV remote, but they provided one right away). Only complaints: The bed (a double), was pretty uncomfortable (lumpy and felt like we were teetering atop a pedestel....hard to describe), and the […] heater in the room made a LOT of odd noises when it would fire up. "Poor service and paper thin walls"
If you are looking for a place to simply crash and get a good night sleep, this is probably not your best bet. Staff was not very service oriented and hotel is just old looking and feeling. A simple change in bed spreads and some more contemporary color or wall paper would suffice. "overpriced for an awful night sleep"
Unwelcoming receptionist, cold room and no way to turn up the temperature (there is an A/C unit by the looks of it though). Felt like a window was open but it was not. Plug sockets were broken. Complimentary toiletries had been half used by the previous guest (eugh). Poor / no sound proofing from the road - all night it sounded like refuse or something […] was being removed by industrial type trucks, which woke me and my friend every hour. I only stayed a night, felt dreadful the following day with such a poor night's sleep. Mehr

"Grand Union"
A good little hotel, and reasonably priced by New York standards. Position is excellent, within walking distance of Grand Central, Empire State building and Macy's. Even better, the subway is at the end of the block. My room was comfortable, and being at the front had a view of the Empire State building. "Grand Union - cheap rooms in center of Manhattan"
I was in New York for a week and just needed a place to sleep, as I would be travelling all the days. Hotel is located just 2 blocks from Empire State Building and Grand Central is a subway station away - it it very central when you need to get anywhere. A subway station can be found just down the street when you exit the hotel, and 5th Avenue is just […] a few minutes walk as well. Room was in very nice condition and I never had problems with cleaning. It was a little small, but it didn't matter to me, as I didn't spend any time in there anyways. It fitted me, my suitcase and all the stuff I bought quite nicely :) They don't serve breakfast in the hotel, but I went to nearby Starbucks cafées in stead, they had 2 cafées very close to the hotel, one of them right next to Empire State Building. A great help was when leaving the hotel, you can store your luggage. You have to check out at 11 am and since my plane wasn't leaving until 11 pm, I had to place my suitcase somewhere, so I didn't have to drag it all over the city until I left. Hotel staff was very helpful in this regard and it's no extra charge. Big thumps up for this service! Only negative thing to say is that they don't offer free WiFi - you have to pay to get access and the price is quite high. I think they should offer this as a service free of charge, but you can find other places in the city, that can offer this, so it's not a major issue. Elevator is slow as well, but that's only a big problem if you forget something in your room, when you reach the lobby ;) All in all it's definitely a hotel I would recommend to others and I will surely be using it when I return to this great city one day! Hotel seemed recently renovated. Room was clean and fixtures appeared new (mostly). Air conditioner didnt work properly and we couldn't bring room temp down sufficiently. And the shower was horrible!! Low pressure and the water temperature changed frequently from scalding hot to quite chilly. And the tv, which we didn't use, was old and small. Also […] no free wi-fi.
