Avalon Waterfront Inns - Fort Lauderdale

Das Hotel liegt direkt am Strand und in der Nähe von Geschäften und Bars. Der Pool ist sauber, leider sind die Zimmer sehr abgewohnt. Das Frühstück ist typisch amerikanisch, also einfach und eintönig.

Das Hotel war im allgemeinen renovierungsbedürftig und entspricht leider nicht heutigem Standard (auch nicht für 2 Sterne).

Trust all the bad reviews about this hotel. THEY ARE ALL TRUE. And run away from this hotel as fast as you can.

Hotel is VERY RUN DOWN! The room was ok but old. Even so we made it a great time! No major problems, just needs lots of outside maintenance,

Having read other reviews I was hesitant but decided to give it a try for one night. Believe the reviews - if you are lucky, its OK for one night....OTHERWISE, BEST TO FIND ANOTHER HOTEL.

Aside from the beachfront location this place was/is a complete DUMP. There were bugs in the room, holes in the wall and the a/c barely worked. I guess you really get what you pay for! I was unable to get a good nites sleep because of the bugs crawling around and ended up leaving my luggage in the car to avoid bringing those bugs home with me.

Really, my only requirements are that a hotel be clean and safe. Sorry to say, Avalon Waterfront fell far short in both categories and I have the pictures to prove it. Ramshackled, run down, dirty and down right disgusting! I have three words: DON't BOOK IT! The first clue was the dirty mattress I saw leaning against the building as we drove around […] to our room. Next, there were panes of glass missing on two windows! Yes, missing! The door had a gaping hole at the bottom that would allow anything to slither in. Wait, it get's better! There was a plastic bikini crotch strip (you know the ones you find in bathing suits when you're trying them on) stuck on the lamp, a faded couch that had white drops of God knows what all over it. Our room number on our door was written in black permanent marker and I'm sure the outlet where the air conditiner was plugged in violates some kind of safety code. The room smelled and was not clean at all. This is the nastiest hotel I have even seen and it looks like it would crumble to the ground if you kicked it. My husband and I were vacationing with friends and like us, they requested a refund. Thankfully, Hotels.com took care of us and found us another room. It was far from the beach, but was clean and safe. I would have slept in my car before I touched those beds at the Avalon. Mehr

This hotel was horrible. The tub dripped the whole time. When you took a shower the tub filled practically to the top and it was yellow. The only good thing is that the beach is right across the street and near the Ft. Lauderdale strip.

This place is the lowest on the hotel food chain. We were checked in and told our room was down to the corner and turn left to the end of the block. Not even sidewalks to get there. The room was quite "cheap"...had to be over 6' tall to reach the controls on the A/C unit, the flimsy door and lock were somewhat scary. TV didn't work. Very loud music […] playing from a outdoor bar on the property. Location was nice, but I'd look harder next time. Booking included a continental breakfast, but we were told they decided to discontinue it...cheap, but not a good value. Mehr

When we asked for early check in since cruise debarktaion was at 9am, they gave us the 1st available room and kept our luggage, until it was ready, while we went to beach accross the street! Wasnt the worst hotel ever but it was rather old and needs some serious upgrades and TLC. The guy at the front desk was very understanding and helpful in making sure we got one of their better rooms and it was pretty neat and clean but the old decor and the fact it needed a major upgrade made it less appealing than it could have been. The problem was it advertized on the outside of the building that it had a refrigerator in the room and free continental breakfast, but neither was true.

My fiancé and I walked into the room, looked at each other in shock and disappointment, then decided to look for another hotel. We spent about 15mins in the room calling other hotels in the area, then politely checked out to go stay at the other hotel. I am hoping I receive a full refund from hotels.com and would not recommend the Avalon Waterfront […] Inns to anyone. Don't believe the images you see on Avalon's website. Mehr

Hotel staff was great considering the pressures of spring breakers all around on St. Patricks Day. Room was clean and comfortable for an older hotel. Some guests might not have liked the fact it wasn't like the Hilton, but the price WASN'T the Hilton either! For the location on the beach and the shops and restaurants at Beach Place, you can not beat […] it. Bed was clean and comfortable. TV, AC worked great with the remote controls for both! We were able to get an early check in after we got off the cruise, and a late check out for the next day since our flight was later that evening. This hotel was very dirty and not well kept. The staff was unfriendly and unwilling to help. I was not able to check in until 630, 3 1/2 hours after check in time. There excuse was the rooms were not cleaned. We had asked for a roll away bed and they said they didn't have any which is not what is says on their website. I booked this hotel because it was supposed to be across the beach for the one day getaway I needed. However it was not across the beach because they put us in a different building farther away from the beach... At the end, I could not even stay the night there it was that bad. When I first arrived the door was wide opened. I walked in and only one […] light worked the other ones had missing bulb. It was muggy inside because the AC was not running. The windows didn't have curtains so that made it very challenging to change in the room without being seen from the streets. The floor in the kitchen had dirt on the floor and the floors in the room had no carpeting and they were dirty as well so I kept my shoes on all the time. Usually all hotels give 1 for the bath 1 for the sink and another one if it includes kitchen but only 1 bar of soap was provided. I went to the front desk to request soap and the person attending there told me to come back. When I came back a different person was there and she told me to come back. So it was very late before I finally got 1 more bar of soap. Surprisingly the bathtub was clean. I ended up leaving because I could not stay in a place like that. The front desk person did not have any people skills at all. I have never complained about any hotel even when I found that some things weren't right but this one was a scam. The pictures of the room I upgraded to is different than what was given. The pictures showed full kitchen and I was supposed to get a queen size bed instead it was a mini kitchen and 2 double beds. Save your money and go to a cheap hotel you will get much better service and a much better room. Mehr

despite of the reasons you may have to go for the discount rate they give you at websites like hotel.com...trust the reviews..they are complete true..I'm one of those positive people who thing..it can't be that bad"...well..I got what it was..I have to give credit to the poor manager and the front desk lady that try to do their best to handle..5 couples […] that where complaining about their rooms...myself..have to change 3 times until i got a room that was acceptable but dirty...the first one was full of smoke and dirty as hell, the bath tube was with one cockroaches death on it..plus holes in the wall!!!! that you can see the street from it, second..air conditioning, phone, tv and fridge did'nt work..last one was better but i think i got the best of the hotel and...trust me was not what i pay for..and i choose the one bedroom suite..I never again will go there..the costumer services although its improved as they came to give me towels and ask if i need anything..but the last day housekeeping nook my door at 9 am..to ask me if a was living or not...humm 2 hours before checking out time...rude and unethical..people for 40 buck smore i did spend my last nite at the Hilton..just beside to forged about my ordeal..Avalon...never again .... We read some pretty bad reviews about Avalon when we made our reservation, but we wanted a budget hotel on the beach in Ft. Lauderdale, so we reserved a room anyway. Needless to say, we weren't expecting much and were pleasantly surprised when we checked in and found the staff very nice and helpful. Our room smelled musty and wasn't maintained like […] a five star hotel, however, it was clean and comfortable and just what we needed. It is on the beach and close to many restaurants and shops. Each staff member we encountered was very pleasant and helpful. If we ever go back to Ft. Lauderdale, we will definitely be staying there again! Mehr

Do not stay here if you can afford a name brand hotel. This place needs some major renovations. The price was average for the area, but the overall comfort and cleanliness is terrible. The hotel was run down and looks like from the outside it isn't kept up at all. The roof to the office is missing underneath, the curtains are non existant in the rooms and it is very old. The door was to the outside with a key (metal). The blanket was falling apart and the bed cover was old. bathroom was clean. No working phone (one there but not working) […] and there were two doors to other rooms attached to ours with no way to lock it from our side - doorknobs had been removed leaving an open hole and tables moved to cover them. There was a haunting large picture framed of a plane flying way too close to a tall building with buzzards flying around. Not something you would see on the beach. Very 911 looking. TV worked and towels were clean. Non attentive front desk clerk. If you like to be on the beach, don't want to pay much, this is for you. Have a travel buddy with you. Mehr

We were pleasantly surprised. We like older "chick" hotels with great locations. we could walk to all the bars and the view of the ocean from our suite was great. if you can not appreciate old florida then this isnt the hotel for you. older hotels on the beach that are trendy are our thing. if you are used to the ritzs then pass this one by. we had […] a nice romantic weekend and we enjoyed the room. although older was very comfortable and we would def stay there again. This whole hotel needs to be demolished along with the "sister hotel" the Calipso Cay..... First they overbooked the reservation then "walked us" to the sister hotel ........ Section 8 housing awaiting demolition would best suit this hotel. I'm an easy EASY going person 129 plus tax..... they should have paid me to stay there. I don't know how this made it to hotel.com this was the worst hole ever! Needs to be knocked down and rebuilt! Nasty, dirty, walls falling apart, bathroom disgusting, a rug you didn't even want to step on barefooted! Bed was scary, I went to buy my own bed sheets and pillows. Well, you get what you pay for. Friendly staff, OK for us. If you just wanna sleep the night and hang by pool or the beach we thought it was value for money. I hope they pay the staff allright - they make the stay a 3 Regards Kjell and Annki from Sweden

The hotel was not in great shape the rooms were not eqiuped with common things like a hair dryer or soap. the continental breakfast was terrible.

Great super friendly helpful staff. Huge accommodation area. (I had a full kitchen + massive 2 double beds bedroom with sofa, dining table, other work tables + satellite tv, bathroom and a huge walk-in hanging/ wardrobe section + a safe.) Superb / totally unbeatable location right on the beachfront. (And bus routes to everywhere.) Moments from cafe's, […] restaurants & shops. The lobby has lots of tourist info + shopping vouchers. Please do however remember it's a 1950's hotel. The furniture's old and tired, but clean and very functional. Snobs might struggle. But snobs would have to pay literally over double this price, for a new-build style hotel. (As I have in the past for this location before I found the Avalon.) I've read reviews from other people who've been really unkind, but they clearly just didn't realise you're getting a brilliant deal on space + location + service at this price. It's cheap because it's dated with tired furniture, so you get serious value. I've been visiting Ft L for years and I can promise this is an unbeatable deal for the price. And the staff couldn't be kinder and sweeter. The hotel has free wifi. There's a pc with free internet in the lobby + another in the next door hotel they own. Ft L has everything you can imagine. Beaches, mega shopping, restaurants - you can't go wrong with Ft Lauderdale, and this place is a serious deal. Mehr

Disgusting! We checked in went to the room and imediately cancelled our room. The room smelled like mold, the paint was peeling off the wall, the walls were dirty, all surfaces were grimey, very unsafe location windows would not close. The lost goes on... Don,t book with this hotel you will reget it.

This is a dump. Some Rooms are smelly and some are noisy (we had to change the room). The one that was not smelly or noisy didn't look appealing (wear in rugs, paint missing in walls, etc) The pictures are very deceiving. It was horrible, the front building wasn't too bad but that's not where hotelsdotcom people stay. This was an entire block of old apt. Buildings should have been condemned, rotted moldy walls, door been kicked in no heat no tv no phone , was a crack house I think. If it wasn't so chilly the night we stayed there. Is have slept on the beach less chances […] of bringing home some bugs. Over all there was nothing good about this place and I'm very disappointed that hotelsdotcom would even book a place like this. Makes me think if I should use them anymore , can't trust that ill get a decent room if this is a hotel they would back up do yourself a favor and don't stay there !!!! Mehr

The room smelled like bleach and was almost unbearable. Carpet was tore up and furniture stained. Outside of hotel was dirty and scary. Walls of the rooms very thin and could hear everything.

for the price we paid, I was satisfied with the Hotel. The location is great.

Our biggest complaint - we could not get clean towels and wash rags! I even bought a pack of 18 wash clothes at Wal-mart, they took those dirty and still had to hunt down and wait for them to wash and dry linens. My son got very sick one day, and I asked for our room to be cleaned, it took two days to get someone in there? Luckily, I had bought a bottle […] of pine-sol and used it, but did not have a scrub brush.... And for me to get him clean linens that morning he got so sick, I had to go to the front desk and they gave me a key to go to another room by me and strip the beds and put on. But, the first room did not have any on the beds and I had to go the front desk a second time and get another key to another room and finally found a bed to strip and get clean linens, I think? Evidently, there are not enough towels, rags, pillow cases or sheets for all the rooms. My advice, take your own. In short, you want to save money, you need a list of things to ensure your comfort; such as; Linens, pine-sol or some sort of disinfectant, a toilet brush, a broom or vaccuum (had to hunt that down and do ourselves every other day too) and so on... Our dogs itched constantly from something in the room. Pools get cleaned two times a week? We stayed there eleven days, prepaid unfortunately through Hotels.com, or we would have been out of there. Front desk people were okay. The location is excellent, the place could be fixed up with some caulk, paint, and scrubbing brushes and it would not be soo bad. too bad the facility was not cared for like it should be. Mehr

nasty unsafe smells broken doors extra charges stay away

We were given an efficiency. Upon entering I knew we made a mistake.Dismal & dreary. The terazzo floor was filthy, not to be walked on barefoot. The room was so offputting I did not want to touch anything or sit on the dirty couch. The walls were scuffed and had holes and were very sloppily painted. No amenities in sight (not even a telephone) Definitely […] no blackout drapes or curtains, the outside bare bulb shined through the jalousied front door which was in direct line to my sleepless eyes. Parking was not free as the site advertises. You should not believe the pictures of this hotel either. Isn't there a board that visits hotels? This one should be cited. Mehr

Located right across from the beach so you can't beat it's location. Rooms are older/out dated but has not to bad if your not spending allot of time in the room. Walking distance to several bars and resturants. No bar or resturant at this hotel. Rooms are situated around the pool and it's very cozy, it's not the Hilton but it's not Motel 6

cheap! old! dirty! I really don't know, how they got the 2.5 stars. If your only option is to stay there or cancel your trip, I would strongly recommend that you cancel your trip. It was so bad, I could not even get in to the bathtub. I really don't think, this inn should even be an option when we are trying to book a hotel... Unless you are looking for a room and cheap rate, this is not the place for you. Not a single penny of revenue spent on the room. Carpet had turned brown to black, walls were patched but not painted, no internet. Do not take your girl there, you may never see her again. Only good this was that it right across from the water.

Location was perfect...for the $$ the room was just fine for a nite or 2...I have to wonder, what the people that wrote the terrible reviews were expecting for the money right on the Beach. If they were expecting the Marriott, they should expect to pay more!
