Dayton Grand Hotel - Dayton

This was an old style hotel that was misrepresented by the description. The bathroom was no bigger than a closet, the bar and restaurant were closed and who knows when they are to reopen. The parking was horrible, if you are elderly, don't count on an elevator to get back down to the entrance because there isn't one. The room wasn't what I would call […] the cleanest. The walls appeared to have primordial ooze stains as well as the desk chair. The TV was very old, the gym TV's only had 4 channels and they weren't even good channels. The pool looks way better in the pictures, and is cold. I don't feel the value was there for what I paid, and I likely wouldn't stay again. This hotel needs a complete renovation, and new management and probably new owners! I definitely feel a bit ripped off. Mehr

I did not like the parking and there wasn't any room service.

The hotel is being renovated and some ammenities are not available. This was not disclosed at time of booking. It did not meet my expectations.

Overall it was a nice hotel. Parking is free. Hotel was clean. Room was nice. Price was also very good. However our air conditioner didn't work and it only spit out hot air. The room was so hot my wife and I could hardly sleep. Also they didn't have the type of room we booked ready and we would have had to stay on the lobby and wait for it to be ready. […] We just chose another room. Mehr

We stayed here a year ago under different ownership. Everything was very professional and taken care of. Now, it is run by very rude people who are a mess. We arrived to wait in a line of several people without rooms. Apparently they overbooked the hotel. Then we were treated poorly by the hotel staff. This hotel is very old in the middle of downtown. The room was clean but had musky smell. Their free parking lot was dark and scary. However, it is reasonable for the price we paid.

Room had no Temp Control ... 80 Deg @ Night Staff was vacuuming @ 1am No elevator in a horrible parking garage My advice avoid at all costs

if i did not check in so late i would have most likely went to a different hotel, front desk people were not very helpful all except one, angel, nice job, all others sorry for bothering you for a job you get paid to to, maid service, terrible, you missed my room completely, needed clean towels, sorry they are being cleaned, at the present time we don't […] have any clean one available, this was at 11:50pm, elevator extremely slow, had to take the stairs several times, be careful when you take the stairs, they are full of cigarette butts. I was surprised about the service, Never they have attended when there is a complaint from me. My room heater was not working and nobody attended to my complaint. No Restaurant facility in that hotel.

Pretty bad experience. If you have a car, parking is awful, and even dangerous to your vehicle because of the size of garage, small spaces, dangerous ramps and no elevators if you have bags and have to climb and descend up to 8 floors. Restaurant is closed, excuses abound about upcoming "remodeling". Ice machines only on 3 of 11 floors, 1 broken. Can't […] use stairs at all because you get trapped in locked staircases and have to go all the way down to escape. Elevators painfully slow making everything listed above even worse. Front desk people were nice, but clearly used to making many excuses for all the complaints. I even witnessed a terrible scene where frustrated guests vented on front desk clerk (who could do next to nothing) and she broke down completely in tears, clearly stressed out over complaints. And - finally, magnetic stripe room cards malfunctioned constantly and could not hold the codes so it was another constant run to front desk for new cards, and I wasn't the only one. Yes, I know about keeping cards away from other cards and devices, but this was worse than usual. How can guests keep room keys away from both your wallet and your phone and iPad? Absurd. Mehr

When I pulled into the garage at around 7:00 p.m. it was a little confusing as to where the hotel entrance was since there were no stairwells on the side of the hotel or signage telling you where to go. I was told at the desk that they normally have valet but since the hotel was changing ownership/management, they didn't have it at that time. I also […] asked if the restaraunt was open and was told it also was not open due to the changing of hands and when I asked what was nearby within walking distance since I didn't want to deal with the garage again, I was told to walk blocks one way or the other. I went to my room and looked out the window and didn't feel comfortable walking to restaraunts in the downtown area by myself so just decided to stay in. The room was clean though and convenient to where I needed to go the next day. Mehr

This hotel was older and might be due a upgrade, but it is still very serviceable. Location is in downtown with an easy walk to resturants and the Oregon district. I felt quite safe walking there and back.

The pool was fantastic. Located on the 7th floor with a view of the sunset and horizon of the city it was the highlight of my stay. Unfortunately, the parking lacked elevators so I parked on the 5th floor and had to carry my bags down the stairs. The hotel elevators indoors were very slow. The staff didn't check ID when checking in, the television was […] very outdated, and the room phone still said "Double Tree Hotel" on it. Around 9pm the fire alarm went off and when i reached the lobby, there was no direction, the staff couldn't direct the guests to safety as they obviously had not trained for such occasion. After standing outside for at least half an hour waiting we had to assume the alert was over as there was no communication from the Hotel staff. After the event several guest wanted explanation and/or compensation and the manager responded in a raised voice stating "He was not responsible for other guests action (ie. setting off the fire alarm) and that he couldn't anything for them" When finally returning to the room, the key did not work and I had to go back down to the lobby to have it reactivated. For the price listed on the back of the hotel room door, the stay was quite UNDER par. Mehr

Unfortunately, the hotel is under new management and was on bare bone staffing. the staff was nice and the hotel was decent. but for a little more i should have gone with a different hotel. I think in a few months it may improve but I wouldnt go back

Did not like this hotel - very faded and dirty. Carpets throughout the hotel are filthy. Terrible service - no room service and a jaded snotty check in desk guy. The parking was confusing and the neighborhood was awful. It was my first time visiting Dayton - got in around 9pm and had hoped to either go for a nice walk and find a nice restaurant or […] have room service. Had neither - ended up ordering a pizza. My bed was comfortable however and the bathroom had been recently updated. No flat screen TV (just an old one) and only about 15 TV channels. Mehr

Overall, the Dayton Grand was fine. The room was small but clean and the bed was pretty comfortable. The main problem I experienced was regarding the Polo Grille (their in-house restaurant). When I went downstairs intending to have breakfast before my job interview, I was told that since business was slow, they simply shut down it down. Would have been […] nice to know that in advance, so I could have budgeted time to go elsewhere as there were few other places open to go (at least that I knew of, as someone traveling from out of town). The parking garage was a little scary, but ok since I have a tiny car. Overall, it's an uninspiring experience but it is just fine if you need a clean and quiet room. Mehr

Very clean and nice with an affordable price. Has free parking and close to the hospital.

I expected more amenities from a hotel that has "Grand" in it's name. There were virtually no guest services offered and I didn't even have an alarm clock in my room. I had to get my room key card replaced twice because it stopped working. The last day I was there I was coming down the elevator and there was some sticky substance all over the floor. […] I told the kid behind the counter about it. When I returned four hours later they still hadn't cleaned it up and my shoes were still sticking to the floor in the elevator. Aside from that, the hotel was clean overall as well as my room. Considering the low rate for room, it was a decent value, just don't expect any extras. Mehr

The carpet in the room and in the hallway of the entire floor where I stayed was FILTHY. I didn't want to take off my shoes. It took me fifteen minutes to find the ice machine because the signs on the walls saying there are such machines on certain floors was wrong. I went to two of the specified floors vending areas before I finally found an ice machine. […] Also the staff was quite cold and rude to me at check in and check out. I felt treated like a number or a dollar sign. The location of the hotel was the only good thing about my experience. Mehr

Good price, but not nearly as nice as the photos. Bed was comfy.

This was a nice Old Hotel. Large Suite room with comfortable bed and updated bathroom. Dark and quiet room if you need to sleep during the day (which was needed one of the days) Pool is on 7th floor and looks out over the city (beautiful sunset view). Only thing we did not like was the parking garage. No elevator, so if you park on the 2nd floor or […] higher, you have to walk down to the 1st level to enter hotel. Over all I would stay in this hotel again if we need to be close to downtown Dayton. Mehr

1/2 block from Schuster Center where we saw a play. Free parking in garage. Very nice, and the room was very clean. Looked as though it had been remodeled in the last year or 2. Very comfortable beds. I wish we could find hotels this nice for this price elsewhere. We will return again.

This was the former Doubletree. Was looking for room upgrade as the furniture is outdated and worn. Flatscreen tvs would be a start to improvement. I did appreciate the free wi-fi and parking.

There's a reason this place is so inexpensive. If you're not deterred by the parking garage, then the sign in the lobby that says '15 minutes after check-in there are no refunds' might give you reason to think twice. The issue with the parking garage is that it does NOT have a stairwell or an elevator. You have to roll your luggage down the ramps the […] car drive on. And the receptionist at check-in (woman with glasses and a long chin) was very rude. The room was clean - so if you're not picky about these other things - I guess it would be ok. I plan to stay somewhere else when I'm back in Dayton. Mehr

If you need an in-house restaurant and room service, you're out of luck. But if you need to be in downtown Dayton, and you're okay without those things, this a great find. The lobby is pleasant and comfortable. And the rooms are huge (at least ours was), with very nice beds, clean new bathrooms with granite counters and all the desired ammenities. old Dayton, old money, old hotel, great room for the price, but honestly - you want over 10 bucks a head for a Frosties and scrambled egg breakfast?? Makes me think I'll probably look at something else the next time I want to get a hotel in the Dayton area.

First looks were a little scary: downtown was deserted on a Saturday evening and the Hotel sign outside was completely broken. (This is why I rated the maintenance only a "3".) We wondered what we had gotten ourselves into. However, stepping inside eased our concerns. It was a very nicely-appointed lobby and rooms were large, comfortable and clean. […] Wireless was free. The clerk, although efficient, could have been a little friendlier. Parking was inside but not protected with a big sign warning us that we were parking at our own risk. Again we were a little worried, but the car was still there in 1 piece the next morning. There were only a couple of restaurants (the spaghetti factory & subway) within walking distance as well as a couple of bars. So, while the hotel was quite nice, we would likely choose a different location if we were ever back in Dayton again. Mehr

The hotel is reasonably priced, but not the bargain it used to be since it no longer offers complimentary shuttle service in the immediate area or valet parking and the garage the parking garage is unsecure (not guarded/patrolled). The room was clean and the bathroom/ shower rivaled that of a significantly more expensive hotel. Hotel is dimly lit.

The hotel was very nice. The parking garage only had a stairwell to access the street. We had to walk down 9 flights of stairs after parking on the top level after going out to eat. The stairwell came out into a back alley that was not lit. Very scary. There was no Valet parking and no elevator to the top floors for parking.

I stayed at this hotel on numerous occasions when it was the Double Tree Hotel. It has really gone down. You have to park your car in a parking structure that has no elevator or valet service, so you are walking down the ramps as cars are going up. I had a plumbing problem in my room and it took nearly an hour for someone to bring a plunger to the room. […] I was very dissatisified. Dayton is my home town and this hotel was actually close to all the business I had to take care of and to home. I will in the future stay further out from town. Mehr

It's not grand, but it will do for a night. We had an event to attend and most of the hotel chains were booked so we decided to stay here. Come to find out, it was the old DoubleTree we stayed in years ago. The rooms were nicer than expected, however, the dial on the HVAC wasn't lined up correctly to the settings, we needed a cot and they were all used, […] and there was nothing to drink except diet pepsi for purchase. For the price it worked, but set your expectations there. Mehr
