On The Ave New York - New York

This is the first time that I stayed at a hotel in New York City. It’s located at a very convenience location, walk distance to the American Museum of Nature History, the Central Park and subway stations. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable, though it was a room, and furniture and wall paper were old. The bathroom was in a reasonable size, […] but the towels were old and lost of their original white color. This is a four star hotel, I expected they would have some kind of information for the tourists , shopping and restaurants in the NCY available in the guest rooms, just like the hotels in other big cities in the US. I was disappointed to find out that there wasn’t any in the room where I stayed. There was construction works going on cross the street started from 7 am in the morning and you would definitely hear the noise if your room window faces that side. Mehr

Overall a nice hotel. Standard room is a bit small but good for an overnight stay.

The GOOD: Nice looking lobby, rooms are very tight (kinda expect that in NYC) but clean. The BAD: Just started construction of new building across the street (7am-7pm... jack hammering, concrete trucks, etc.) so if your a late sleeper, try to get rooms facing uptown.... we were on 8th floor facing downtown and it was LOUD!

Modern, clean & close to everything I needed. Perfect little getaway & I can't wait to plan my next visit.

I have stayed here with family and co-workers. Everyone is happy, and so am I! Atmosphere, convenience, staff, and consistently so! Great!

The rooms were small, but otherwise the hotel was nice. They put us on the street side and at 8 am every morning (6 am our time) there was loud construction noise. My only other complaint is that most of the time I went on a coffee run it was empty. It was nice to have coffee service, but it seemed like no one wanted to take resonsibility. I was disappointed with the price of the hotel and how it was reflected in the overall cleanliness of the room. There were hairs in the bathroom and the carpet was dirty and stained throughout the room. Many of the corners appeared as if they were not vacuumed. It was very upsetting. For the price I expected to stay in a room that was at the very least […] tidy and well-kept. Otherwise the neighborhood and location were perfect. It is a short walk to Central Park and there are many good restaurants to try around the hotel. The subway is also either two blocks or five blocks away depending on which line you want to take. We were always greeted with a smile by the staff when we returned to the lobby from a walk. The staff was professional and very helpful whenever we had a question or concern. Mehr

Great being btwn Fairway and Zabars, too!

Recently stayed at OTA for a quick in and out business trip. The location was perfect, the weather happened to be fantastic, and the accomodations were very nice. Guys out front were really helpful in assisting me in finding a place to walk to for dinner and getting cabs. There is a great little market across the street that had great produce and organic […] foods of all kinds. Mehr

The hotel is in a great spot and is generally good - clean, comfortable, great terrace available for guest use, and nice workout room. The not so great points: room was too hot and thermostat didn't seem to help the situation, the elevators are slow on a busy weekend, and there's not even a bar at which to meet people. I was in New York for the weekend and this was a great spot to stay. Close to everything and a mellow neighborhood to return to at the end of the evening. The staff were exceptional. Our room was just fine, small but stylish. I will definitely stay here on my next visit.

Great location, clean linens, even small rooms still nice and confortable, nice and helpful staff. I will recomended eventhout maintenance is not that well. In our room several tiles were loose and dangerus at the bathroom.

So I know that NYC is known for the matchbox size of its rooms, however, with only two carry-ons in tow, my GF and I were forced to hurl ourselves over the bed to traverse the room, as all of the available floor space was taken up by our suitcases. The hotel, itself, is very nice. We were complimentarily upgraded to a king suite upon arrival, which […] makes me shudder at the thought of how small the twin room used to be. Didn't seem to be too bothered by the noise or construction that other commenters have seemed bothered by. Our biggest complaint was that the mattress was ROCK hard. I slept through it just fine, but my GF has some serious back problems, and so we ended up pulling the matress cover off of my side of the bed and doubling it on hers; she said even that was pushing it. I know, I'm a saint. Everything else: Great location, easy walk to central park, and the Natural History musuem, lots of great food surrounding. We had a wonderful time. I'd book another stay, but only if I was coming without the girlfriend and her awful back! Mehr

There is a fire station and also a new building construction zone directly across 77th street from this hotel. On weekdays the jack-hammering begins promptly at 7:15am. I am sure some rooms are affected more than others because there are some that face Broadway and others that face the inside of the block (i.e. no- view) Unfortunately ours was on the […] 77th street side and even on a high floor it seemed like the sounds were right outside our window. Other than that, we found the room to be clean, though tiny. The housekeeping staff was very friendly -- they even left some earplugs for us. This area is convenient to local restaurants, AMNH and Central park, and an easy taxi or subway ride to the theatre district. Mehr

I have stayed at On the Ave several times, and each time I return I'm pleasantly surprised with the standard of service, and the friendly staff. They really go out of their way to accommodate guests! The UWS is my favorite neighborhood ( I lived there for 10yrs) and I enjoy seeing all the old favorites, and new spots that are showing up

The hotel was booked at the last minute for a weekend trip to nyc- once we got there we were greeted by friendly staff inside and reception desk especially (Ramona) maybe the friendliest customer service person ever in NYC! The room was comfortable and standard sized for a ny upper 70's location- good locale and easy to get to everything- watch out […] for parking (53.00 for suv) and on street you will get ticket - overall hotel was comfortable and would stay there again- great value for location Mehr

Perfect neighborhood -- away from the hustle and bustle of Times Square and other tourist sites but convenient via subway or walking. Lots of interesting restaurants in the area. Close to Zabars! Have stayed at On the Ave at least a dozen times.

Looks are deceiving, the hotel looks nice from the outside and the lobby but my room had a broken toilet and blurry cable tv. The manager was very non chalant and unconcerned with these issues, i had to insist on them changing my room after an hr of the maintenance guy not being able to fix it. Dont stay hear this place sucks.

I truly love this Hotel. The location is great, the cost is outstanding, the staff is friendly and helpful and the rooms are fantastic. I wish I could take the beds home with me. I choose to stay here everytime I visit New York. I come to visit my son and they make us feel very comfortable and safe. Its in walking distance of good food, shopping and […] we have even walked to Times Square. It is also convenient to the subway if you are not a walker. For the money, comfort and the service, they get a 5 star rating from me. Mehr

Wonderful staff, huge rooms, great location!

We stayed for 5days and had a great time. The On the Ave hotel was a perfect place for us to stay on the west side. Very nice.

When we stepped into the somewhat shabby elevator we were prepared for the worst. What a pleasant surprise when we got to the room. Clean, quiet, comfortable and bigger than some of the tiny rooms at fancier hotels in NYC. It wouldn't be terribly comfortable if you plan to spend many waking hours in the hotel, but why go to the NY Upper West Side to […] do that? The shower was a bit small, but that was hardly a problem. Mehr

We are frequent visitors to On the Ave its a great hotel. desk staff always awesome and so is the water pressure. construction across the street so ask for a room not on the 77th st side. they start at 7am.Best restaurants to eat at are Nice matin, Citrus (within two blocks) Parking is free on street til 830am perfect hotel to relax with a great dinner. […] we tried restaurant attached to the hotel very bright lights and the service is just ok bartenders a little boring too. they are new and need to work out the kinks. i would eat at the other two restaurants any day of the week. The hotel is two blocks away from subway line 1. The room initially assigned to me was small. After I asked for a change, they happily put me in a larger room, which I'm very satisfied.

The accommodations and service were very good. Unfortunately we had difficulty in setting our alarm clock. Two men were sent to instruct us but they were not able to set clock. Hope problem can be solved by including clock instructions in booklet available in room. Look forward to next stay at On the Avenue.

Very poor internet service in rooms

We are a family of 5 and really enjoyed our two nights at OTA. Our only issue was the construction across from it. It woke us up at 7am. Too early for us when we were out late the night before. The hotel accomodated us and changed our room for the second night and we were pleased. The neighborhood is great.

A great advantage is discounted parking at the garage immediately next to the hotel on 77th St.

Great neighborhood for breakfast and lunch! (Shake Shack, Nice Cafe, Barney Greengrass and Zabars) Easy walk to the Museum of Natural History, the Met, and Central Park. Hotel staff was wonderful, and coffee in the lobby was nice. We had an upgrade to a king bed, and it was wonderful.

This hotel boasts the best beds I've ever had in a hotel in continental North America, and a great neighbourhood two blocks west of the Upper West Side. Perfect for business if you're not using the hotel during the day. The room itself was absolutely tiny - again, fine for business but don't bring the family. The hotel restaurant was under construction […] and I was woken up at 6:30 each morning by earthshatteringly loud construction of a highrise across the street. All worth it for the quality of sleep - even if construction means quantity suffers. It'll be great once all that work is done. Mehr

Amazing boutique hotel central to all the prime upper westside attraction. I would stay here again. Rooms extremely clean, staff is helpful, the rooms are spacious enough and comfortable. I enjoyed my five-night stay, found the bed, room and water pressure great. The door banging every morning by the housekeeping was almost comical though. It was as if they had a sleep-in curfew, and anyone sleeping past that time would be awoken by the repeated loud slamming of doors.

Front desk reception was very friendly. Room was clean and cozy. Totally quiet. And right near the subway!! I'd stay again, no question.

I stayed in this hotel this past week. The rooms are very small but quite modern. The elevator is very old but I loved the location of the hotel. The staff was very friendly.

In a city where most rooms are tiny, expensive and just OK....This beautifully appointed boutique hotel was everything we hoped for and more. The decor was modern, clean and comfortable. Bed extremely comfortable with a nice soft comforter and plenty of cool looking pillows. ..a full length mirror tastefully placed on the bathroom door, cool modern […] coffee maker, and awesome granite stone in the bathroom instead of the generic stuff. Great service, business center and staff. The neighborhood is nice and quiet with the park nearby and lots of excellent restaurants. We didn't want to leave and we'll definitely be back! Mehr

I actually enjoyed my stay at the hotel. It was clean. The bathroom was clean which is the most important thing to me. I would def stay here again.

Great hotel. Love the uniqueness of it and location. Located in a neighborhood away from all the tourism and junk stores. 2 blocks from subway. Great shops and local food joints close by. Will def stay there again
