Howard Johnson Inn Concord - Concord

Room was comfortable and good places nearby to eat. Though it was off a hwy. its was peaceful.

Staff was great and the price was more than fair for the large room.

Hotel was just a little tattered. Grounds were nice. Swimming pool covered with tarp. Breakfast was okay, good coffee!

The hotel was very dirty. The bathroom was disgusting. Being a guy I usually don't get too picky, but this hotel is in dire need of remodeling. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone.

Room had no heat upon arrival. The room also smelled musty and had cobwebs on ceiling. Hotel in bad need of updating. Curtains were water stained and lounging area had stained ceiling tiles. Motel style but comfy room and convenient to the hospital. Good selection for breakfast. Easy access to the interstate.

the hotel was nice--nothing special but fine for a nights stay while in route to our destination.

Check in clerk left a lot to be desired. He made me feel like I was bothering him to check in. He mumbled and got irritated when I asked him to repeat his questions. Although I pre-paid for the room he asked for a credit card at check in and would not explain why, I presumed it was for incidentals, but his demeanor just showed irritation. He shrugged […] his shoulders when asked about a restaurant in the area for dinner. When I asked where our room was located, he stated, “by the pool”. After reading the mixed reviews, I was pretty skeptical about the Howard Johnson's in Concord, SC. But...the price was too tempting compared to others in the area. I only needed a place to sleep for the night. I was't expecting it to be very nice because of the negative reviews, but I was soo WRONG. I was very impressed, and I am quite a picky person […] and hard to please. I was in town (Charlotte/Concord, NC area) because my children were attending a little family reunion with my ex-husband and his family. They all stayed at "The Great Wolf Lodge". I was invited to stay there, as we all get along well, but I declined. I could not afford the $546.00 to stay one night, regardless of how "great" the Great Wolf Lodge is. So, I picked Howard Johnson's for the location and price. It was close to Charlotte, NC (15 min) and close to the huge "Concord Mills Mall", Lowe's Motor Speedway, and Nascar Themepark, all within 10 minutes. Howard Johnson's was easy to find, right off I-85 N. I checked in around 9 pm, and the owner greeted me with a warm smile. The lobby was very nice, modern and clean, with an adjacent breakfast/dining area which was spacious and had several nice tables to sit down to. The owner was very nice, and he voluntarily told me everything I needed to know. He encouraged me to take advantage of the "free continental breakfast", and he told me that if I forgot to pack something, they had lots of (free) complimentary items- "upon request, just ask". That made me feel good, just in case I had forgotten something. I asked for a 9:00 am wake-up call so I could grab a "free continental breakfast" before it closed at 9:30am. The owner said he'd "be happy to give me a wake up call". I also asked if I could have a late check-out, rather than the 11:00am check out time. He said "sure, you can check out by 12:00pm, after that we will need time to clean the room". So I was happy. I proceeded to my room, thinking "this must be the catch". The picture of this place must be quite old, we did not recognize it. It is clearly an old place with minimal maintenance. Something new, the room had hot water but no cold water. Breakfast was minimal with big selection of sugared cerial.

Not bad for the price, actually great deal. Continental Breakfast was also good. I would stay there again.

Only real complaint I have is the less-than-friendly staff. We were treated as if it was an inconvenience whenever we needed anything.

WE WERE HARRASED BY THE OWENER OF THIS HOTEL. THERE WERE 4 OF US SITTING OUTSIDE OF OUR ROOM TALKING AND LAUGHING ABOUT 9PM. WE WERE NOT TOO LOUD B/C WE DIDN'T WANT TO WAKE OUR SLEEPING CHILDREN. THE MAN CAME TO US AND SAID WE HAD TO GO IN B/C WE WERE BEING TO LOUD. WE STAYED OUT ABOUT ANOTHER 15-20 MINS AND WERE LITERALLY TALKING AT A WHISPER. HE CAME […] BACK AS WERE GETTING READY TO GO IN. HE DIDN'T SAY ANYTHING THAT TIME B/C HE SAW THAT WE WERE GOING IN. THEN ONCE WE WENT IN HE KNOCKED ON OUR DOOR AND WANTED TO KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. I ASKED HIM WHAT HIS PROBLEM WAS. HE SAID THERE WAS SHOUTING OUTSIDE OUR ROOM. THAT WAS AN ABSOLUTE LIE. WE HAD A 2 AND 4 YEAR OLD SLEEPING IN OUR ROOM. WHY WOULD WE SHOUT? AFTER A SHORT ARGUMENT ABOUT THAT, I TOLD HIM HE WE WOULD NEVER STAY AT THIS HOTEL AGAIN. HE SAID "GOOD! WE DON'T WANT YOU TO COME BACK!" I AM REALLY IRRITATED ABOUT THIS WHOLE SITUATION. WE TALKED TO OTHER PEOPLE THAT WERE STANDING OUTSIDE, AND THEY SAID THEY DIDN'T HEAR US AT ALL, SO I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THIS OWNER WAS HEARING, BUT IT WASN'T US. I FEEL LIKE WE WERE TARGETED FOR SOME REASON. MY HUSBAND AND THE FRIEND THAT WAS WITH US ARE POLICE OFFICERS AND I PROMISE YOU WOULDN'T DO ANYTHING TO CAUSE TROUBLE ANYWHERE, MUCH LESS A HOTEL. AS FAR AS THE HOTEL, IT WAS OK. NICE POOL. WE SAW MICE SEVERAL TIMES WHEN WE WERE OUTSIDE TALKING THAT NIGHT. AND THEY HAVE A HUGE ANT PROBLEM. ANTS WERE EVERYWHERE OUTSIDE AND INSIDE IN THE BATHROOM. THE BEDS WERE COMFY, AND THE ROOMS WERE CLEAN. BUT I WOULD HAVE PAID ANOTHER $50 TO STAY SOMEWHERE WHERE THE STAFF IS PLEASANT. AND WILL NEXT TIME. WHEN WE CHECKED IN THE FELLOW AT THE DESK HAD A TERRIBLE ATTITUDE, AND YOU COULD HARDLEY UNDERSTAND ANYTHING HE SAID B/C HE SPOKE SO QUIETLEY WITH HIS HEAD DOWN. Where do I begin? I check in and go to my room. There are chunks of the ceiling on the floor. I change rooms the next day. There is a storm and a huge wet ring forms in the ceiling. I change rooms again. Every room I am in there is an oppressive feeling to it. If energy is important to you, the energy is this place is dark and heavy. THE CEILING WAS FALLING IN AND THE ROOM WAS HOT IT TOOK ALL NIGHT FOR IT TO COOL OFF. I GUESS YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR

I was fairly happy to stay here. I wanted an inexpensive hotel with an outdoor pool that was close to everything in Concord. It was close to the freeway and easy to find after exiting the freeway at night. I stayed three nights. One day they missed the room cleaning. They did come to collect dirty towels but never came back with clean ones. There were […] very small black ants in the room, in the bathtub as well as on the counters, so one has to be careful with food. I stayed there in early June during unseasonably warm temperatures and ants do tend to be more active in Spring. Staff were pleasant and helpful with my requests (to get towels, call when my late baggage arrived in the middle of the night, to see ingredients lists of food they served), but not outwardly friendly. the niceiest and the cleaniest hotel i ever staed at

First- the hotel was on the opposite side of town as what the address said. Second- The room was not ready- it was dirty and messed up and they had to clean it before we checked in Third- we were in town for the Coke 600 & we couldn't even check in before the race started! The hotel was a very big surprise. It looked a little older than most, but when I got to my room, I was surprised how clean and fresh it looked and smelled. I met a friend for his birthday weekend and he met me at the hotel and was shocked as well. When you get past the outside, the inside of the rooms are nice.

The condition of the hotel room was as expected for the price and star rating, average. But, the back of the hotel backs up to train tracks where freight trains run by at speed about every 90 min. While this is not a problem for me because I can sleep through anything and my house backs up to train tracks. Great vaule. Clean, friendly service, facility map at check in, king bed was same price as two doubles. I'll stay here any time I'm in Concord.

I spent a leisurely weekend at the HoJo in Concord. I admit I originally chose the site because of the price. But the motel was perfect in many ways for my weekend. I had read that there was nowhere to eat and nothing to do in the area. WRONG There are many restaurants in the area. The mall is less than 1/4 mile away with a multiscreen theater. The […] bigger mall is 9 miles away with many more restaurants near the racetrack. I had also read about train noises, NEVER heard them after 7pm. I believe the hotel did what is suppose to do. THough, as an earlier critic stated it should be a motel. It was a clean room but the bed was horrible.

The hotel is isolated, not in good condition, guest were very uncomfortable for me, the people staying there were not a very good group of individuals and I had my child with me too and did not want to be there. VERY VERY DISSAPPOINTED!Arrived later first night due to travel, I was locked out of the lobby and had to go to a glass enclosed window around the side of the hotel to even check in. I should have at that point refused to stay there, but I continued on. Most rooms throughout the hotel need repairs. There are holes in the ceilings, holes in my bed blanket, […] if it wasn't the holes, it all definitely need a coat of paint. The exercise room was very disappointing. The hotels.com site has this place listed as "Complimentary wireless" available. That really means means that there is no internet service available unless you get to use the office computer. Has fridge, but doesn't work. Has soda machine, but doesn't work. Room very drafty, has heater, but it is so loud I continually had to turn it on/off to heat but sleep. I definitely slept all week with my exercise clothes on! I was the only car in the whole place for most nights and my last night I was lucky enough to have an ant attempt to drink my hot chocolate. The staff was very nice and the coffee in the lobby wasn't bad either. I travel weekly for work, I chose this place to try to save a little money in the work budget and be close to where I had to work, but that is the only benefit I could find with my stay. It was comfortable place to stay. Except that there was a freight train tracks near by. It is very close to getting to the track at Charlotte motorspeedway. It is on hwy 29.

The room was clean and tidy and very quiet. Just stayed for the night but would recommend.

The hotel was actually better than I expected given that it was about 60% of the price of all the other hotels around. Staff was friendly, room was clean - it's not the Taj Mahal but it was comfortable, quiet, and made for a pleasant stay. I would not only go again, I'd be happy to recommend it to others.
