It was a good hotel for the night. The hot tub was underwelming but at least they had one.

The stay was fine. The hotel had a lounge with a small bar and pool table, dart machine and two of the games that are found in the bars back home. The pool was big. Game room was nice size,as was the weight room. Would stay there again.

The room was nice and clean.The food in the bar and for breakfast was good.It was a nice walk to the mall.We'll probably stay here next year.

The location was great for what we came to Madison for but there was another group in the hotel with kids and the kids were in the pool all night. Until 3am, they were also running up and down the halls and around the building outside. My group was all adults and this was upsetting to us. If parents are going to bring their kids to a hotel they should […] know what they are up to. NOT JUST LET THEM RUN ALL OVER THE HOTEL!! Mehr

Our room was "clean" but the beds were broke down and junk. Box springs were way past useful life. Bathroom was ok. Pool was really nice and big. Breakfast was way below average. Luke warm eggs and maybe warm sausage links...greasy cold. I would not recommend. It wasn't the hotels fault, but there were kids running up and down the hallway til 1230 in […] the morning (where were the parents!) but each section of the hotel had a door that closed off the other section (not a fire door either) and everytime the kids opened it our door would shake and when the outside door closed there would be a bang. First two days was OK. Room was not cleaned at all on the 3rd day. Beds were not made and towels left on the bathroom floor were still there when we returned in the evening. Manager at first said we had the Do Not Disturb sign up. The sign was still on the inside of the door. He then admitted that the sign was not on the door after all. He offered us […] a drink to compensate. I don't drink so I declined. Breakfast left something to be desired. Only offered sausage, eggs, pancakes/french toast and fruit. Won't be staying here again. Initially the staff at arrival were helpful but upon leaving we're woeful. The layout of the hotel is awkward especially when I had to get the luggage trolley myself as there was no-one to assist when departing. The shuttle bus that had been booked before going to bed hadn't been filled with petrol. A taxi had not been ordered so had request one called […] & then it had to be followed up as it took much longer than expected by hotel staff as well as myself. This hotel is old, it is fairly well kept up, pool is large and great, hot tub sucked! The staff and lobby area are fine. I have seen bigger bars in the basment of homes. The room was comfy, the tv sucked. For the price it was an agreeable stay. We just needed a place to crash and go sightseeing from. Very helpfull people. Hot tub was cool, but they corrected it.

The only complaints we have are that the bike in the fitness room was not in working order and the hot tub was too hot to sit in. The friendliness and outgoing nature of the staff was a pleasant experience.

This is a nice hotel, when I was there it was below zero outside and the hallways were cold, but they do feed you a nice hot breakfast with friendly service. My only complaint was that I called them to reserve a room and they could not give me the price I was able to get online. So I hung up with the lady and reserved it online for much cheaper. Was suprised that a hotel at this price offered a nice pool, hot tub and a lounge. Food was good and was also priced nice. The room was comfortable with refrigerator, and microwave. The coffee maker was also nice to have since I was leaving before breakfast was served the next morning. Can't beat it for an overnight stay when in Madison.

this is a weird one. The hotel has a great lobby, the pool is awesome, the game room is cool (if you have kids!) and the pictures online are decent...however, once it gets to the more personal side of the hotel (your room) this hotel is a train wreck. The hallways have ceiling tiles hanging out of the hallways, the rooms are dark and dingy, and they […] are incredibly cramped. The restaurant is awful. It was clearly reheated food that is "made-to-order" but is was bad. If they renovated some rooms, coupled with the location, this could be a nice hotel, but I would not recommend it to anyone at this point. Mehr

its not the best but its not the worst either.. we were gone all day and we only used the pool that was fun for the kids. The Rec room was fun as well, old school video games..

The bathroom was very cold and even with the bathroom door wide open it did not warm up. The latch lock on the main door had loose screws which did not make me feel very secure considering our room was straight across from an outside door. And late friday night the jets on the whirpool stopped working and we were out of pool towels most of the weekend, […] even after asking for additional ones. Mehr

Stayed one night around the holidays while visiting friends in Madison area. The hotels is in a busy shopping area just off interstate but the price was right, especially for a place with an indoor pool.They also had a game room and hot tub--so the kids were thrilled. Room was just okay, very typical fare. An a la carte breakast was being offered in […] lieu of the continental the day we stayed--wasn't very good. The staff were pleasant and there's ample parking. The hotel was much nicer than we expected for the price. The service was wonderful, and we really enjoyed our breakfast server "Uncle Mike." He was the best part of our stay.

I've stayed here for the last 2 Christmases while in Madison visiting family. They had some of the best rates in town. Although staff was sparse because of the holiday, it didn't matter because I spent most of my time with my family. The limited staff that was on duty was extremely helpful and courteous. The room and hotel were very clean, comfortable, […] and quiet. As was the pool and Jacuzzi. The free, hot, made-to-order breakfast was limited but good - especially for the price! A nice amenity for travelers! I will continue to stay here whenever I visit Madison. Mehr

The room was cold and it didn't have an adjustable thermostat. The drain in the bathtub didn't drain so you stood in 2 inches of water while showering. The so called continental breakfast was a joke the eggs were dried out the sausage and potatoes were burnt and the muffins were dried out in the middle. The restaurant/bar was also a joke they were out […] of everything we wanted and didn't seem to care. This hotel really wasn't worth the few bucks we saved i would have rather spent more money and had a better experience. Mehr

Upkeep was poor and we lost power while getting ready in our room and had to move to another room.

Hotel needs a major paint job, not a very welcoming entrance/parking lot, room smelled terribly of cigarette smoke, heard every noice in the hallway...including a dog barking. Horrible stay, will not return.

This is a lower end hotel and, considering that we had paid 60% less for a fabulous 3.5 star the night before, the cost was pretty tough to swallow. It was quiet. Billows bounce as they're made of sponge and the beds were moderate. Was spoiled paying so much less at a 3.5 star with fabulous beds, a restaurant and bar.

Well worth the money. I would book there again.

The room was very hard to find. The guy at the front desk didn't even bother to show me the map or provide clear direction. The place was smelly and didn't look clean compared to similarly priced places nearby. Breakast looked good, but every single forks and knives showed white soap residue.

Good location and nice breakfast selection, unfortunately hotel maintenance and cleaning were very sloppy and in need of attention.

We stayed at this hotel due to our need for parking a large truck and a semi. There was tons of parking! There was a pub at the hotel that was convenient as well as a gameroom, pool and jacuzzi. The staff was super friendly and very helpful. The only 2 downfalls of the hotel was one-the jacuzzi did not get hot, it was barely warm and also the doors […] all looked like they had been broken into. A little scary but overall, the hotel was great and I have actually booked it again for my next trip in town. Mehr

Room could have been a little cleaner but otherwise it was fine. Fairly quiet but the beds were comfortable. We got a good nights sleep.

Room was fine. Hot buffet breakfast is superior to others at this price point. The bar was a disappointment. No wine or tap beer. Only bottled beer and mixed drinks. I ordered a bottled beer and requested a glass. They gave me a plastic cup, which was confusing because they had pilsner glasses in plain view and the rooms have real coffee mugs and glasses. […] Location and price point are good. I was extremely and pleasantly surprised at the level of Howard Johnson. I was expecting average and found it to be excellent and upgraded to compete with some of the other upper class hotels.

Hotel looked nice from the outside, but they checked us into an occupied room, very embarassing for all... Room keys did not work well. Had to get new keys three times. Once was locked outside in the dark and had to walk around to the front of hotel to the desk to get new keys. Computer in lobby not working. Wireless signal did not work in my room. […] Room smelled musty. The wall paper in the bathroom was peeling off and mold was growing under it. Very loud all night in the hall. The beds were comfortable though. All in all, I would not stay here again and would not recommend at all. Mehr

I will NOT be going back....The room smelled, I didn't have hot water one day, the refrigerator didn't work, I just didn't have a good stay at all!

I have stayed at 4 hotels in USA and this one was the best. Everything about this hotel was exceptional even the location. Handy to everything.

Tried to take a shower at 7AM and there was know hot water! There wasn't even warm water!! Couldn't shower and had to sit in meetings all day long!!!!

The AC couldn't be used because the filter was filthy. This made for a very stuffy room. Once we realized the window could be opened and was secure (we were on the first floor) the condition of the air was better. BAD. Ants in my room, sheets had crumbs in them, toilet didn't flush well and I had little to no hot water for my shower in the morning.

Very Helpful Staff and Good Accomodations for the Price.

Knowledgable front desk staff and excellent service. We will stay here again in our travels through Madison.

stayed at the red roof down the street, which i hated. then stayed here. well worth the small difference in price. staff was very friendly, room was clean, comfortable, and quiet, and they even tossed in a free continental breakfast. i would stay there again.
