Really enjoyed our stay, excellent hotel with a rich heritage.

Had a luxurious stay at the Midland. Amazing building, great location, service. Loved the marble everywhere. Pool was very good.

This is a lovely hotel, conveniently located for all the sites in the city and the metrolink for getting further afield. The hotel staff were very welcoming, the room was clean, comfy and very quiet. The hotel itself exudes history yet has a modern feel, I would thoroughly recommend to anyone wanting either a leisure break or a business meeting.

Great hotel in the centre of Manchester. Rooms are well equiped and have wifi as standard. Stayed here before and would recommend staying here especially if you get a good deal. Good choice for breakfast. Did not eat in the restaurant as was at a conference but menu looked nice.

My wife took me to the Midland for my birthday and it was excellent in every way, be aware that the addition of a service charge seems to be common in Manchester certainly it was applied at the Midland on our afternoon tea which was good but not great, at at a local chinese restaurant. We don't have service charges where I live and I prefer to tip as […] I see fit. Will definately return (they gave me a bottle of wine for my birthday as well) nice touch Mehr

Great hotel, very clean, staff brilliant, breakfast great, poll nice, good location. The only comment i would have is that i didnt get a room with a view (for the second time) and i had two single beds rather than a double.

We stayed here just before Christmas and wanted somewhere near to the Palace theatre and in the middle of the city. The greeting on our arrival was friendly and warm, the staff were very polite and friendly, the hotel was splendidly decorated for christmas and the grand victorian era piano lounge and check in area were suitably grand and classy for […] a 4 star hotel. The buffet breakfast had a good choice of both cooked items and continental selection although the hotel was fully booked when we stayed and we were warned to get up early to beat the queue and sure enough as we left the breakfast hall quite a line of disgruntled patrons had built up. If your looking for a good quality hotel in Manchester thats right in the middle of everything we'd highly recommend the Midland. Mehr

The only problem are the windows: The wind came in throught the old frames.

lovely hotel ,helpful staff we stayed in a spacious contempery room . definatley go back again

The only downside to our stay at the Midland was the fact that unfortunately we were unable to reserve a table for dinner due to the fact that the hotel was full. At breakfast the dining room was full and some people were put in The French which was a very last minute idea,and we had very little choice,but what we did have was very good. I did notice […] that the hot food was getting cold as no-one replaced the covers on the trays. We were also kept awake until 6.30 am due to someone chattering in their room! Mehr

I think its a nice hotel. The room is big and clean. The location is very convenient and the appearance of the hotel is traditional. Some facilities are a little bit old. In summary, the hotel is worth to recommend and its price is reasonable.

.... If a little dusty, well the picture frame in our room, otherwise hotel great. Pool cool and jacuzzi out of action, but a welcome swim after a busy day.

Beautiful. Comfortable beds, wonderful location and friendly staff. I wish I could have stayed longer.

The hotel was OK, the room was nice but small and the bath was tiny and the TV was fuzzy- room service was good though. The gym facilities were great but the pool and jacuzzi were tiny and there were separate male and female sauna's so not ideal when on a weekend break with your partner. Breakfast was great and most of the staff were polite and friendly. HOWEVER, […] we ate at the cheaper restaurant 'the vyvern' or something one night and it was awful. The food was horrible - pub food at four star restaurant prices, it arrived cold and was basically just frozen food shoved in a deep fat fryer- really disappointing. On top of that the waitress thought it would be appropriate to only speak to my fiance and completely ignore me- not even looking at me when taking my order she then proceeded to joke about whether we wanted dessert as that was designed to be cold after we complained about the food being cold!!!! IT was absolutely disgusting. For a four star hotel, paying those prices you at least expect professional service and so while I would recommend staying at the hotel I would not recommend dining there at all!!! Mehr

We were greeted at the door by an incredibly friendly gentleman doorman and were then dealt with very professionally by the lady at the reception desk. Our room was very large and clean and although we had only booked a standard twin room, it was lovely to have been allocated a large room with two double beds. The bathroom was clean and functional with […] a great power shower. The hotel is well located within easy reach of the shopping centre and many restaurants and bars. My only small issue with the hotel is that the cocktail bar lacked any kind of atmosphere and we would not choose to return there. The Radisson Edwardian is a good example of a successful hotel cocktail lounge. I have stayed at the Midland on numerous occasions and have always enjoyed the stay. I will continue to book this hotel over all other choices in Manchester. Mehr

Very comfortable three night stay. Room was up on the top floor and very quiet. Didn't have breakfast as there a lot of cafes around the area. A very good central location, with tram & buses stopping about a hundred yards away. Would certainly come again.

friendly staff , attentive without being pushy, good food and comfortable room. Housekeeping staff were sympathetic to the requirements of my husband who has poor health. Excellent venue for city centre events

Staff: Staff were extremely friendly and very helpful. Table service in the bar could be a bit slow at times, but not so much as to detract from the overall quality of service. Room: Very clean. Generally well appointed although they had trouser press *or* ironing board. I tend to find whenever I need trousers pressing I am also wearing a smart shirt […] and therefore that also needs pressing so would have preferred ironing board - they brought one to the room on asking, but then took it away when they cleaned so had to ask again the following day! My only real complaint was the room was fairly small - this wouldn't have been an issue except I was ill during my visit (nothing to do with hotel) so spent a lot more time in the room than I had planned. Lastly, note that you only get 2 hours free wi-fi per day - any more and you have to pay. Whilst this was fine for me, in this day and age with most hotels offering free wifi, this felt a bit mean especially given the amount paid to stay there. Food: Whilst the food was good, (tried Colony meals, conference meals and room service), I found it all to be way too salty. Admittedly I don't generally add any salt when I'm cooking, but I wasn't the only one to comment on this. However, if you don't mind this the quality of the food was otherwise very good. Hotel: The building is stunning and well worth a visit to have a look around. Shame my room didn't have the same grandeur. I was there for work, and there were several meeting rooms of different sizes available. The staff seemed very helpful and able to sort out flipcharts/photocopying for us with no quibbles. I wasn't involved in organising so can't really comment beyond that but as a delegate I'd definitely recommend the venue. Location: Located just a couple of minutes walk from the town hall, 5-10 minutes from the town centre and right by bus/tram connections it's pretty much ideal for getting anywhere in Manchester. We have stayed at Q Hotels before and have always enjoyed our stay but this one did not live up to expectations. It is in a fantastic location and the bedrooms are small but really nicely decorated and clean. The breakfast was really average and the service was less so. They had run out of all the basics and it took ages to re-stock.

Went for the Darby and it was only a couple hundred yards away from the train station and lots great restaurants and pubs all within about a 10-15 minute walk. Room was fine, would have been nice if the window opened but no big deal. Gym and other facilities were great and the free hour of internet everyday was quite helpful. A real 'grand old lady' -showing her age in some ways, but still magnificent and impressive. Very busy when I stayed which meant breakfast and check out had long queues, but staff were friendly as well as very hard working. Very central for Manchester, but parking was a real extra expense.

good location. bedrroms very uncomfortable staff not as friendly and as helpful as other hotels no drawer space to put clothes, breakfast in hotel over priced quality and variety very poor can get better with places close by

this has all the trappings of a luxury hotel, but our stay was spoiled by the terrible service at breakfast. There were just not enough staff, so 1 person was meeting guests and showing them to tables, at 7.30 with a long queue building up. Everything was self-service except tea/coffee, and the food was acceptable but the coffee took a long time to […] arrive, and despite requests they never brought the milk. Mehr

The Midland is an excellent iconic hotel in the centre of Manchester. It is convenient for all highlights of town and the service is impeccable. The only thing that lets it down is the chaotic breakfast in the Colony Room. Surely a hotel of this standard can get a toaster that works!!

We booked The Midland at short notice for a quick get away from the madness of London. Having stayed here before, I was a little worried that it would be the same, tired old place I remember. How wrong I was. It seems they've invested quite a bit in doing up the rooms, which is comforting. For quality and location you'd be hard pressed to beat it. Easy […] to get to Canal Street as well. This place is in the heart of Manchester, in one of its most beautiful buildings. It's worth is just for that. It's not perfect; reception never seems to have enough people working so there's always a wait. Our room key kept on de-magnetizing for no reason we could figure out and we were constantly having to get it re-programmed. There are very few […] tv channels avaialable. They're kind of stingy with the towels. Still, I recommend it because of the amazing building and the location, if the price is right. Mehr

We booked this hotel as it appeared to be in an ideal location for many reasons. I had Manchester United tickets with my friend so getting to and from the stadium was fairly easy. Our wife's also tagged along but did not go to the game and went shopping instead. The shops and shopping centres were also was very close by and only a short walk away […] which suited them to the ground. They also enjoyed the use of the hotel spa. Eating out was good. We dinned in the evening very close by in a fantastic Italian restaurant up the road from the hotel called Don Giovannis which was amazing and also very well priced!! definately recommended. We felt the breakfast at the hotel was quite expensive so i would advice not to pre-book this as there are some lovely cafes across the street from the hotel that serve great full English breakfasts for less than a fiver and they were lovely!! The hotel rooms were very nice, very clean and spacious and very comfortable. The Hotel staff were very helpful and polite and were happy to advise us with directions etc... There is no parking at the Hotel due to its excellent central location. However you can leave your car in the nearby secure NCP for £15 per night or you can do what we did and leave the car with the Hotel who provide an excellent valet service and take your car for you and pick it up for and extra £5 each way. The Midland Hotel is well located near Manchester Central Library. From the outside the building doesn't look that wonderful but the interior is lovely. We arrived at about midnight and found our room had been upgraded from standard to Deluxe, which was a very welcome surprise. The deluxe room was excellent, a huge bed (2 double matresses wide) large […] flatscreen TV, separate luggage/dressing area, nice bathroom etc. The hotel had posted signs that there could be large queues at breakfast and advising guests to arrive pre 9am. Indeed this was correct, we got seated quickly but by about 9.30 there was a large queue. We did however, have to call down for to ask for our room to be cleaned and the turn down service we requested never happened. The Midland advertises its Cream Teas, we were told that they only had 2 of these left when we placed our order- some people could have been disappointed and missed out on this tasty treat. The gym has a good range of equipment and the pool was very nice and clean. It was however a little small and so to have room for a good swim you really had to be one of only about 3 people in the water! Mehr
