"Downhill slide for this hotel"
I have been staying at this hotel on business for nearly 3 years and always rated it very highly. I have seen a steady decline in the maintenance of the hotel. The hot tub, though I never used it, was open and worked when I first started staying at the hotel. It has been in repair with black plastic over the windows for well over a year. On the most […] recent visit there was no remote for the TV in the room. I was first provided a remote to an RCA TV when there is a Samsung in the room...so yet another trip to the front desk to request one. I wasn't assured any method to turn the TV on and was sent back to the room to wait. It was after I suggested that they might not be fully booked and could take a remote from a vacant room and provide to me that I actually got one. The complimentary breakfast used to be well organized and clean. With each visit I see less and less offered and even the plastic knives, forks and spoons were scattered across the counter rather than being located together. Mehr

hotel needs to be updated!! Our bed broke, the picture fell off of the wall and they had to bring us a new hair dryer. Definitly not the Wingate experience I have had in the past!!
Room was large with plenty of space, very clean. Enjoyed our brief stay there.

"Nice and comfortable"
It is a nice clean hotel. I like to stay there whenever I am in town. It is near all the surrounding areas for stores and restaurants. I like the complimentary breakfast as well.

The front desk staff by the names of Amanda and Jill were rude and uninformed. We were made to wait until exactly 3pm to check in. The lobby had four big groups in it waiting to check in. We were told at 3pm that they could start checking us in but weren't sure what rooms were ready. We got a handicaped room which should be saved for a person who really […] needs it, and their wasn't even kleenex in it. Overall the hotel was clean, quiet, and farely easy to get to. Clean room, comfortable beds, OK breakfast, Quiet area - no traffic noise at night. But the AC/Heating unit was a bit noisy - it turned on and off all night. Otherwise it was a really good stay. It's in an office/business park allong with a couple other hotels at the end of a cul-de-sac. Not so not good for walking to dinner, but is a nice quiet, safe […] area with very little night traffic. "Launch to Spring Break"
We stayed initially at this hotel the 1st night in Alabama on our way to Gulf Shores after bidding online. We were so impressed, returned for our last night to catch a flight out. Staff was very pleasant and suggested a couple of local restaurants that were perfect. Wish pool had been open but still got us to return.

"OK Hotel for a nights stay"
There was always overflowing trash outside in the dumpsters. The staff did not keep on top of it. There was a big crack in the wall from water damage that was halfway fixed. But for being close to everything, it was a good place to stay. Linen was clean, room was clean, inside lobby and eating area was all nice. I would stay again.

The only negative issue was the pool was closed for remodel as well as the hot tub...I was disappointed however that I couldnt check into my room until 3 pm. l had been traveling and wanted to check in before I had to be at a meeting at 230pm. The staff was very stiff and wouldnt even discuss, as I figured maybe i could since the parking lot appeared […] empty on my arrival to hotel at 12 noon. otherwise the room, breakfast was all excellent. "Hotel for busy weekend"
My wife and I stayed in Birmingham for the first time to attend the IndyCar race at Barber Motorsports Park. Wingate was close enough to travel back and forth easily and the surrounding area has plenty to do in the evenings as well. The hotel itself was great. Very spacious room and good amenities as well. "Good for price only"
Got broken shower knob, broken and leaking faucet, broken toilet handle. The refrig was not cold.
I was disappointed that the hotel's exercise room was in disorder and the treadmill did not work.
I was very disappointed in this hotel. My 13 year old daughter found dried, smeared feces around the toilet tissue dispenser. I told two managers and they both said they were sorry but did nothing about it.

We were disappointed with the smell of the lobby & 1st floor area, it smelled like body odor or burning steel. The building was clean, but could use some updating (the wallpaper was peeling in spots). The equipment in the work out room was well maintained & clean. The front lobby desk was seldom manned, the sign that someone would return was up frequently. The […] breakfast offered little variety (this morning it was biscuits, waffles, cereal, fruit) not much on protein. More than that, the dresser in our room had two broken, debilitated drawers. The room was clean, and well stocked so it was so sad to see that something so basic could distract us from the positives. We probably would have looked for another room if we thought there would be one available with the races in town. It's just hard to enter a smelly environment after eating a pleasant meal. Mehr

"Management Went above and beyond"
During our stay in Birmingham we experienced some scheduling challenges. The general manager on duty, sales manager and all other staff with Wingate were great in taking care of a situation they had no control over. We were also there during very threatening weather and they kept us updated with throughout the entire time. They went above and beyond […] to make sure we were taken care of. Along with that, the hotel sits on a hill in a great area with many restaurants and shopping nearby. We will definitely be returning to Birmingham and will stay at Wingate. Mehr
"no bathtub, short shower curtain, no shower booth"
overall, it is a nice hotel for the price. but bathroom should be renovated. after shower, all the bathroom floor was flooded because there is no bathtub nor shower booth. worse, shower curtain is short so it couldn't block water splash.

This Hotel was extremely clean and the people working there could not have been any nicer. It is a ways out of town but I would highly recommend it to anyone who does not have to stay in Downtown Birmingham.
"Horrible Stay!"
We chose this hotel because we have stayed at very nice Wyndham properties but DO NOT waste your money on this one! It is an old property and not well cared for. The drain in the shower had a sharp protruding metal piece that we had to avoid, the toilet overflowed, and the sheets were stained with ...??? When we tried to call down to the desk, the phone […] didn't even work!!! The staff was not concerned with any of this when we had to WALK down to the desk. "Noticing a downhill trend for this hotel"
I have been staying in this hotel once a month or so for nearly 3 years. They closed the hot tub area and it has been taped up with black paper for more than 1 year and I have seen no work going on for near 1 year. The breakfast was sparse to start with and has decreased over time. No syrup for waffles and very disorganized making us look quite a bit […] to find forks that are 10 feet from spoons which are another 5 feet from knives (all plastic but expected to be). Mehr

We have stayed at Wyndham's in the past. This one in Birmingham seemed a little older. Also the coffeemaker in the room did not work and since there was water in it when we attempted to use it, it had not been working for the previous occupants. Other than that, we found the hotel very nice.
