Good location but pricie for what it is. This is a hotel that charges like a five star hotel when in reality.is a two to three star hotel.
"Near to station and amenities"
Uncomfortable beds. Bedroom in need of refurbishment. Close to station and shuttle bus service useful
Should inform lodgers on the availability of shuttle bus service from JR Kyoto Station to the hotel in advance.
"Good Kyoto hotel"
We stayed 4 nights at the Righa Royal. It is clean, convenient, and well maintained. Typically, the beds are not ultra comfortable, although in our stay in Japan we learned to expect this. We had 3 in the room (2 double beds and one sleeper sofa bed) and it was not cramped. The bathroom is very spacious for a Japanese hotel. We were pleased to find […] coffee in the room, but very surprised to find a bill for 300 yen for each time we opened one of the convenience packets. Unfortunately, the hotel was unwilling to waive this charge, which for a 4 night stay in 2 rooms we found a bit cheap. Other than that complaint, we would recommend the hotel. Mehr
"Hotel Rihga in Kyoto"
Note that the breakfast is not included even though it is a expensive hotel. The rooms were a bit warm.
"Rihga Royal Hotel Kyoto - very dispppointing"
After having a fantastic stay for a lesser price hotel in Tokyo, this hotel came as a big surprise. We were a family of 4 - paid for a bigger room which was very expensive but we had to live in hopeless room condition. The good points are it is close to the JR station and staff are as usual helpful like in any other place in Japan. But I will not recommend […] this hotel for its condition for the price you pay. Mehr
"Helpful Staff, comfortable stay."
Older rooms, windows opened but no A/C. Outside noisy, but got used to it. Concierge spoke English well. Rooms were older but ok. furniture was bulky which made it hard to open the windodws. Room was still comfotable enough. Walkiing distance to shopping plaza.
"Righa is convenient and comfortable"
This hotel was located only two blocks from the Kyoto train station where there were hundreds of shops and small restaurants or take out places. A large neon sign made it easy for a non-Japanese visitor to identify. The staff were welcoming and polite. The swimming pool, though overheated was great for lap swimming in the evening. I enjoyed keeping […] in touch through the complementary International Herald Tribune delivered to my door, and the free wifi. Mehr

"Nice hotel with reasonable price"
I am glad that I choose this hotel for our family. Everything seems fullfill our needs, except not many channels on TV, but we usually back to hotel around 8pm, so not a problem for us. I like especially the shuttle bus service. We never needs to walk to the station. Just a short waiting to catch the hotel bus from the hotel or from the Kyoto station. […] Nice hotel, staff is very helpful and polite. Will return if I come back to Kyoto again. Mehr
"Rihga Royal Hotel in Kyoto"
The service at the front desk was excellent! They helped me with an early check-in after my tiring night flight. The staffs are very polite and greet us readily. I like that they have a quad-room which my family with children can all be accomodated in a room, this gave me a peace of mind. The hotel is within walking distance to Kyoto station, which […] is very convenient for sight-seeing; there is free shuttle bus service too. Mehr
"Nice condition but quite far away from station"
It was quite long way down to hotel from Kyoto station. Even I hadn't got any lugguage to carry, it was quite far. If you got any lugguage to carry. OMG:) But cleaness & service was fantastic :) Size of room & bathroom were quite reasonable.
"Rihga Royal - Good Value - walk to Kiyoto Station"
Big hotel with all facilities about a 5-10 min walk from main Kiyoto train/subway station in a mostly commercial area. Very clean, very well equipped rooms, rooms decent sized for a Japanese tourist/business hotel. Expensive food, but several nearby neighborhood restaurants and a ton of decent relatively inexpensive restaurants in "Porta" plaza attached […] to train station. No adjacent shopping, but plenty at Porta and north of train station. Would certainly consider staying there again at current pricing. Mehr

We were really blown off by the warm service offered by the hotel staff. The exterior looks a tad aged, but the interior is actually fine. We even have free newspapers delivered to us every morning!
"Comfortable and Convenient"
The Rihga Royal treated us well and has very nice rooms, esp. compared to some of the other places I've stayed at while in Japan. The staff was fairly good about our odd-hours laundry requests and currency exchange, but are pretty strict about their rules and hours. Still, they did what they could to help us, so we're pretty grateful. There is a shuttle […] between the hotel and Kyoto Station. We did not know about it, and got a little lost in slightly sketchy looking parts of Kyoto trying to get there, so be sure to use the shuttle if you're arriving late at night! Mehr
"Good Hotel"
Very good service. Very close to Kyoto Train Station but quite far from main attractions. Good value for a hotel in Kyoto. Much more comfortable than stays in Ryokans of similar cost. which we also experienced.
"Rooms are spacious in Japanese standard."
We enjoyed our stay here. 1) We were able to check in as early as 12. 2) We are used to Japanese rooms being small. However, our room (I think it was deluxe twin) being spacious definitely made our stay more comfortable and enjoyable. 3) Lots of toiletry items were provided. Another bonus. cons: restaurants and room service are definitely 5-star hotel […] prices. There was nothing right next to the hotel, but the walk to the train station is not bad if you don't want to wait for the free shuttle. Mehr

"Righa Royal Hotel Kyoto - a perfect experience"
A great choice for any visits to Kyoto, both for business or for vacancy. All facilities are perfectly functioned. And the location is only 10 minutes walking to Kyoto Station that is also the city centre (but they provide free shuttle too). The staffs are sincerely friendly. A tip for you: no tips :)
"Rhiga Royal Hotel Kyoto - top notch service."
Nice room size. Great service & exceptional staff - many speak very good english. Will stay here again on my next visit to Kyoto.
"Needs sprucing up"
This was my 4th stay at the Rihga Royal Kyoto since 2004, but my first time using their internet service (more on that at the end). The public areas are well maintained, if somewhat dated; my room was worn looking - the wood finishes were wearing off, the furniture was "well-used". Cleanliness standards are still high throughout the hotel, although […] the housekeeping staff is slower than in the past, taking most of the day to complete the part of the floor I was on. The location is convenient to Kyoto Station - it's a 7 minute walk or a five minute ride on the complimentary shuttle, which lets you off on the side of the station nearest the Shinkansen bullet train tracks (there's also a subway entrance there, if you know where to look). The hotel's internet service is poor. Not only do they charge you for internet, their system is balky and user-unfriendly. Often I had to restart my laptop several times before the server would recognize I was still within the 24 hour period I'd paid for. Keep a record of when your 24 hours begins - otherwise you could end up being billed twice for the same period, simply because the system often defaults to the "purchase" screen when it shouldn't. Also, the system is "optimized" for internet Explorer and Netscape; I've a Mac - I could not access the system directly using Safari. I had to launch Firefox first, then when it was accepted by the system, I could launch Safari. Quite a waste of time and effort, especially given the price they charge. Mehr
"Hotel Royal Rihga Kyoto"
My primary objection is that while close enough to the train station, it is heading away from most of what a vacationer would want to see in Kyoto. That also can force one to eat in the hotel, which while multiple choices exist, the prices are on the high end even for Japan. But it was quite clean and comfortable with a lot of nice touches to the a […] ccomodations. Mehr
"Nice hotel near Kyoto station"
Nice hotel, good location near Kyoto station. It's a 5-8 minute walk or you can take the free shuttle that departs every 15 minutes. Rooms are nice, comfortable and clean. We got a good discount due to a sale, if we had payed full price it would have been a little disappointing but Kyoto is not cheap.
This hotel was incredible. We had to deal with a lost bag and they helped us get it back. They made sure we found everything we wanted to see. Really, really recommend this hotel!

"Convenient and Spacious"
The room was spacious and pleasant, and the hotel staff were helpful and quick. The location is convenient if you are using the train, ands we walked through Kyoto without issue.
"Righa Royal Hotel Kyoto"
Interior of hotel is very nice. Too bad you have to pay quite a sum to use the indoor swimming pool. The bedroom is also not too bad and quite spacious. Very convenient to Kyoto Train and Bus stations as there is a complimentary bus shuttle that departs every 15 minutes or so.
"Older style hotel."
the hotel is older style - rooms would be comfortable for 2 - but not 4 as advertised. Very clean. Walking distance to station, but a bit disconnected from other attratcions. The bus shuttle to station was welcome in the snowy weather. Breakfast very expensive - suggest eating out at nearby station.

"Rihga Royal Hotel Kyoto"
Hotel very close to the train and bus station. Very convenient to travel around and to visit other cities. Neighborough was not that nice but convinient. Our room was not noisy and quite large; able to fit 4 single beds for our family. Of course it has not the style of a Ryokan but lot more confortable.
The Rihga Royal is very well situated if you arrive by train, a eight-minute walk from the station (there is a courtesy bus though if you can't walk eight minutes Kyoto is hardly the place to be visiting, let alone nearby Nara). The outside of the hotel isn't particularly appealing but inside it's spacious, clean and the staff is friendly. We ate in […] the hotel one evening - not cheap - but stunning French cooking served with real style by a trio of terrific chefs. If you need a break from Japanese food this a good place to explore. The hotel's situation is perfect for visiting the manifold sights in Kyoto and you've easy access to the bus network, the underground and the numerous taxis (which aren't horrendously priced if you're careful). Recommeded. Mehr
"good service, dreary location, tiny room"
We had one carry on suitcase and one slightly larger and couldn't find a place for them in the room. Three arm chairs but no floor space. Bathroom was likewise very cramped. Bed was hard and uncomfortable. Front desk spoke good english and very helpful, and shuttle to kyoto station was handy. very dreary neighborhood and not close to the subway. Also […] stayed in the Grand Prince Hotel, Takaragaike, which was fabulous, huge room, great location at the end of the subway line in gorgeous neighborhood. Mehr
"Rihga Royal Kyoto - excellent choice for the price"
We looked for a hotel near the Kyoto Train Station, to make it easier for us to drop off our luggage and have easy access to the trains. This was made much easier with their shuttle which makes a round trip every 15 minutes. The Hotel lobby was well appointed and clean, with a front desk staff which spoke English, and the concierge made Kyoto tour reservations […] for us quickly, and efficiently. Our room was very comfortable and clean, with a refrigerator we could store our water bottles and mornng breakfast in. This was one of the best rooms we have stayed in, in several years. It is not luxurious, but for the price we paid we certainly felt well taken care of. Mehr

"why pay extra for internet connection?"
The hotel is great but for internet connection you add over US $10 per day, why?

"What you see is what you get"
I think the description of the hotell in LP was applicable. It probably used to be a luxury hotel but hasn't kept up with standards. But the room we stayed in - low-price twin - was very nice, and I have absolutely NO complaints! Nicely close to Kyoto station!
"great hotel in great location"
This hotel is very nice and is only a 5 min walk from the Kyoto station.
"京都競馬場"
足が痛くなってまともに歩けないくらいに痛くなり困ってると若い従業員の方に➡大丈夫ですか❓ と声をかけていただき湿布薬と頭痛薬も貰ってたいへん助かりました。 ありがとうございました。 京都に来たら又泊まらせてもらいます。 お願いしますm(_ _)m
