the location was excellent. the safe did not work. the refrigerator did not work. no hot water. the Internet does not work well. I would stay at at a different hotel in the future

Excellent stay. friendly people. be ware of breakfast times. The hotel tells you 10.30 last serving but the staff in the breakfast lounge start packing away early and get moody if you interfere with their routine.

The staff were very polite but the breakfast staff are very keen to close the breakfast facility. If you are not in the room by 10.15 you will receive a frosty reception as they are already clearing up even when breakfast is advertised as 10.30.

Location great! Friendly staff. Room terrible. Very noisy, had to leave window open due to heat. Room old, paint peeling, bed and pillows too hard. Only BBC English speaking Chanel. Hotel did not warn us that the flooding would begin at 8pm. Bad carnivale experience. Hotel not worth cost.

We stayed here one night and chose the location because of it's close proximity to St. Mark's square. When we checked into the hotel, the lobby smelled of mildew. The next morning we found the lobby and the kitchen under water. The staff at the hotel were not helpful at all in our plight of trying to get out of the hotel without all of our belongings […] getting damaged and getting to our train. They had a machine pumping water out of the lobby that just came right back into the lobby under the door. Besides that, the bed was uncomfortable and the walls were paper thin, you could hear everyone outside and we were on the 3rd floor! I would never stay there again or let anyone else go there either! Great location... Don't get fooled by the outside apperencence. From the outside the hotel looks a bit scary and looks like y may have made a bad choice. The location is very us close to everything And rooms are roomy.and clean. Staff I as great.

I took a chance and was sorely dissapointed. We rented two rooms for two nights; we had to change one room after the first night. We did not sleep either of the two nights. It was misery. Pros: Fantastic location, just outside San Marco square. Linens were very clean. Housekeeping staff does a good job with what they have to work with. Wi-Fi was free […] for 20hrs- appreciated. AC in one room worked great. Cons: Wi-Fi was inconsistent, but eventually worked. AC in 2nd room did not cool and fan did not help at all. It was small and all plumbing leaked. Beds were rock hard combined with the dripping noise made sleep impossible. The room we were switched to was tinier and more run down than the first. The smell of sewage hit you upon entering. Staff provided air freshner. This place was a dark spot on or vacation. Enough said. The door to the bathroom in the area of the elevator was left open so the smell permeated the area. This was the hotel's entrance to the restaurant by the way. There was a roach crawling on the floor of the restaurant. Beds were extremely hard. Mehr

We chose this hotel mostly because of it's location, just down the road from St. Marks square. Despite the location, we found it easy to sleep and the beds were comfortable. Overall the hotel was just what we needed, and it's location is the best part of all.

Great location just off the spectacular Piazza San Marco. Good restaurants nearby, and a pleasant walk to the Rialto and Dorsoduro areas. Room was small but comfortable. Breakfast was good.

Very nice and clean hotel. Central to the Piazza San Marco. Staff was great and we really enjoyed it. Only possible drawback are the early morning bells from the Torre. Wow what a wake up call. A friend recommended this hotel and we have no regrets really. Would definitely return.

The location is the best thing about it, being right behind Piazza San Marco. The best way to get there is to take the waterbus to Piazza, then walk behind the square. From the bridge you can see the Hard Rock Cafe 2 bridges over. Staff friendly & bar was nice and convenient. Room was large, but it's the classic old school Italian: hard bed, bad decor […] & toiletries. But for the price, it's a steal and we would definitely stay there again. Ask for a room away from the main walk. The bread & linen deliveries came very early & woke us up each morning around 5am. Mehr

Great location to the San Marco area. A haul from the train station. Take my advice, take the water taxi to the San Marco square and it is about a 2 - 3 block walk from there. The staff was polite. The breakfast was not as good as other hotels we stayed at during our visit to Italy but for Venice it was a good deal.

Couldn't find a better location than being right on San Marco. Rooms were small, but it was perfect for a few nights. We paid 6 Euro per person for the morning breakfast and it was a good deal. Location was excellent, right near San Marco square. Reception was also very helpful. Gondola rides by San Marco and Rialto are very expensive, but we found them 40 euros cheaper on the smaller canals

I would recommend this hotel for its terrific location, not for our room. The hotel is just steps off of Plaza San Marco, right in the heart of everything. We loved having an affordable room so close to sights, restaurants, shops and entertainment. The room itself was cute but tiny, with the king-size bed taking up almost all the space in the room. […] The bathroom was tiny, also. The location of this hotel was perfect, just steps away from St. Marks Square. I was concerned about finding the hotel with Venice's many alleyways, but this hotel was very easy to find. The service was OK but not terrible friendly or helpful. The room was clean and everything worked fine. I would definately stay here again.

This hotel is perfectly located just a few meters from Plaza San Marcos. We had an awesome room with excellent view but there is 1 thing to consider, some rooms are not exactly on the same floor as the elevator. Some sections have up and down stairs (within the same floor) making it hard if you have heavy luggage and multiple pieces. If you are on the […] 5th floor, keep in mind the elevator only makes it to the 4th floor! The reason for the lower score regarding room comfort was because our A/C was broken and they couldn't get it fixed. Just so you know, August in Venice is extremely hot and humid and mosquitoes come out after sunset! The hallway was cooler than inside the room! Being from the United States we were unprepared for the age and size of a hotel in Venice. Our rooms were so small we were unable to walk around the bed and the staff did not understand English enough to perform the smallest of tasks. The location cannot be beat. The ambiance of the hotel is nice. The front desk staff can be surly and unhelpful. The air-conditioning in the room was not up to the August heat. Our room was too small for the bed size -- we had to move it around just to roll our suitcase by -- however the bath was a good size. Because of the closeness of the buildings the room was very dark. Our friends were staying on the 4th floor and their rooms were quite a bit nicer and had a lot of light and a view of the roof scape.

I have no other hotels to compare in Venice but this hotel is trying hard. The wireless didn't work in the rooms so we had to go to the lobby therefore they did not charge us which was good. We had 2 rooms. We booked as an adult and child in each room and they didn't bother to put us on the same floor. We were given the rooms over the alley that marks […] some of the highest foot traffic from St. Marks to the Rialto Bridge. While I can say the location is superb this room allocation was probably their biggest undoing from my point of view. I had trouble falling asleep for the party going on in the alley night #1 then night #2 my husband and son couldn't sleep at all and they were 3 floors up! I played music and used ear plugs :) The breakfast was pretty poor but not the worst I have seen. The ladies who worked the breakfast absolutely seem to hate their jobs and every soul who steps into their restaurant. My husbands thermostat didn't work so his room was often overly warm and they would have to override the system. His floor bowed so badly you felt you were on a sinking ship. My daughter's bed needed to be replaced as it bowed as badly. My shower leaked so awful we had to use every towel to soak up the mess. Despite all this we managed the 2 nights and you have to acknowledge the 'quaintness' of a Venetian hotel. It isn't the worst place; would definitely choose another hotel to try next time but that is just me :) Biggest tip: check location from dropoff point- lugging bags. Mehr

The various people on the front desk were abrupt and seemed reluctant to help. The room was very small, and had a strong damp smell. WiFi was supposed to be free, but they made you go to reception to obtain a separate code for each hour of use, and when my daughter asked for her 3rd code they apparently became irritated and said that they may have to […] charge her. We could not get WiFi access from the room, but only from a lobby area. There was one computer for guests to use, but this also required the same 1hr codes to be obtained, and connection to the internet seemed slow and unreliable. The food in the hotel restaurant was poor, and not good value. You could not order most of the dishes of food on their own, but only as part of a package with a drink. After checking out you could leave luggage in the hotel, but only in an unlocked room which nobody supervised. All guests had access to the room, so any guest could have left with anyone else's luggage, if they wished, either inadvertently or otherwise. Mehr

This hotel is 75 feet and one canal bridge away from St. Marks square - you can walk most any where easily from here. This is all it has going for it. The rooms are incredibly small (think 6"-8" between bed and wall to walk) - we had a difficult time finding a place to put two suitcases down. The beds are rock hard torture devices. The bathroom smelled […] horribly - but many budget hotels in Venice have this problem (keep the drains and door closed). And the front desk help were marginally polite and ignored our request to reserve a porter and water taxi. If you are an independent traveller who does not rely on assistance from the hotel, limit the hours you sleep and bring pain killers for your back, the location of this hotel might make up for everything. If you are looking for comfort and service - you might want to reconsider. Mehr

Excellent location!!! The hotel is located only a few steps from Piazza San Marco which is very convinient. Our room was very good, spacious. Hotel is comfortable considering its age. Still had about 20 stairs after we got out of the lift. More direction is needed to help people find the hotel. It is hard enough dragging your luggage over the cobblestones to it, without the problem of not really knowing where you are going. We were lucky enough to have an elderly gentleman who had lived in […] Venice his whole life, take us to the hotel, when we were lost. My best advice - travel to Venice with minimal luggage, as you will probably have to drag it a long way, and up and down a lot of stairs. Don't miss a visit to Doge Palace. It is only 2 minutes from this hotel, and is a fabulous way to spend a couple of hours. Shopping is great - but only if you can afford designer brands. Loved the location because we could easily hang out at St. Mark's and hop on the vaporetto easily. Venice is expensive, so this hotel was priced very reasonably. The Best Western is a nice hotel with a GREAT location...however, when we checked in, we were told there was no room, and they walked us half way across town, bags in tow to a scummy hotel off a back alley that they claimed was also a 3-star hotel. We complained and said this was not acceptable...and were then hauled back across town to a hotel 1/2 […] block from the Best Western where they found rooms for us. The hotel itself was great, and you can't beat the location, just one block from San Marco Square, two blocks from the Hard Rock Cafe...just beware if they may try to relocate you to a back alley. The location of this hotel is absolutely perfect. Walk out of the door over the bridge where a gondola is always waiting and you are standing by the side of the orchestra in St. Marks Square. Absolutely amazing. The room we had was ver very small but it was functional and clean. The room was cleaned every day and breakfast was included. It was late […] when we arrived so didnt move the shutters till the morning. Holding my breath hoping to see a beautiful view of the canal on opening them, I was so disappointed to see another hotel bedroom window and a wall!!!! However the location and cleanliness more than made up for the lack of view. Air con was very welcome and worked very well. I was initially very disappointed there were no tea and coffee making facilities in the room but it was only from reading the welcome book in the room if you ask at reception these will be provided. As soon as I requested them a kettle tea coffee and milk were brought up. Lovely. Perfect stay in a perfect place. Excellent value for money. Mehr

Only stayed three nights but overall was satisfied with the hotel. As can be expected in Venice the room was on the small side but was clean and tidy. Good location and easy to get to from San Marco pier. Downside was the location shown on website appeared to be wrong.

i had intended to book the other BW near San Marco which I stayed at severl times before, but booked this one by mistake. It was fine, and maybe a little cheaper, but would not be my first choice.
