Travelodge Hotel Downtown - Chicago

We reserved 2 doubles here and stayed from 12/2 to 12/5 and didn't have any problems whatsoever. It is really close to the "L" and the subway so getting around town was a snap. Walking distance to Millenium Park, Buckingham Fountain, Adler Planetarium, Shedd Aquarium and Soldier Field. Navy Pier is nearby also. The beds were comfortable and they kept […] the rooms clean. This is by no means the Hilton but we stayed here for the low price and we didn't expect more than what we paid for. If you're driving, be ready to pay a hefty fee to park. There are lots right across the street and it runs around $28/day to park there. I'm a pretty heavy sleeper so I can't comment on any noise from the trains but let me say that it DOES take me awhile to get to sleep and the trains didn't bother me one bit (not sure if I heard them at night either to tell you the truth so they couldn't have been too loud). The rooms stay very warm so we actually ran the A/C while we were in our rooms and stayed quite comfortable with outside temps lingering near 40. There is a Dunkin Donut shop half a block away and a cafe connected to the hotel. I plan on returning next year for another Bears game. Hopefully this one will be a victory though. Mehr

Smallest hotel room I have ever been in.Took 2 hours for heating to finally work.Entire hotel needs updating, very used, very unsatisfactory, everything worn out and grubby.

Great location and you can not beat the price. Kudos to the housekeeping staff who found my lost laptop and happily shipped it to me when I left it behind. Not the most luxurious but you can save your money for all the great dining and nightlife in Chicago.

The only good thing about this hotel is that it's within walking distance of many great places. There are no extras like continental breakfast or pool or gym. The elevators made me think I was going to die every time I took them. I was thoroughly disappointed with what I found upon arriving at this hotel. if you are staying downtown I recommend paying […] more to get a hotel that will actually be worth it. Mehr

One of the elevators was down during our stay. Our shower also broke and it took awhile for them to fix it. Overall room was clean and staff was friendly. Within walking distance of great shops and food. Would stay again.

The hotel was in a great location for the price. Parking is extra and pricey. Kitchenette is just a frig and microwave next to a sink.

I booked this hotel thinking I was good deal based on the photos. Don't make the same mistake as I did! The rooms are really tiny, and the fixtures are old and in disrepair. No views of anything other than into the office building next door. This hotel is falling apart and really should be torn down. Do yourself a favor and spend the extra $50 a night […] for an actual decent place to stay. Mehr

Rooms were impersonal and did not carry any information on the area to visit. No brochures on restaurants, attractions, etc. The water pressure in shower was a drip and the pillows were well used. When calling the front desk for extra pillows, we waited until we went down ourselves. For the downtown area and the quality of the hotel, the price is mediocre. […] I would probably not stay at this hotel again. Mehr

Very well located but the hotel is old, dingy, small rooms, please avoid unless you're on a budget or have no other options. I have actually stayed here on 3 separate occasions but this was the last time....

Can't say enough about the location, especially if you're using CTA. The hotel service was exceptional and friendly. The sheets and bathroom were very clean. The downside? VERY small rooms if you book a standard double queen. If not for the fact that we were able to change to an ADA room for my husband, it would have made for a cramped stay. We ended […] up in a room with 2 full size beds with fridge / microwave. The furniture was not very clean and the bed spreads / carpet were severely stained. Can't beat the price for the location and quality hotel service staff. Wouldn't stay here if I was a huge germaphobe though or a neat freak. Mehr

Although the service was pretty good, the room was disgusting. The first room we were in had low water pressure and no hot water at all. Someone left the ancient radiator running so the room was terribly hot and stale smelling. The second room was a little better. It still was not as clean as I would have liked. location sucks. attached food vender closes at or before 7pm-closest restaurant is at least 3 block away and the neighbor hood is sketchy after dark.

Being in Chicago, my wife and I decided on a hotel that would be conveniently located but pragmatic at the same time. We didn't need to spend more money for extra paisley and floral decor. The Travelodge on Harrison was exactly that. The room fit our needs in terms of a comfortable bed, clean bathroom and a nice kitchenette. Old, run down, worst, most worn out matresses ever, no sound deadening, all the street noise heard clearly inside the room, run the blower to drown it out, do not stay here if you want to actually sleep, the matresses are 100 years old, lumpy and just plain the worst I have ever seen in a hotel, the only good thing was bathrooms were recently remodeled […] and in nice condition with new modern fixtures Mehr

This is a good hotel if you are looking to save money. I was disappointed in the room temperature. It was way too hot. The female desk clerks were not very helpful or accomodating.

The location was great! My husband and I easily walked to all the sights. The staff was friendly and helpful and our room was kept neat and tidy. The decor and fixtures were outdated and the room was REALLY small. The shower had really low water pressure and that was annoying. As everyone has said- great location. Price-can't be beat Not the friendliest staff, but not outright rude (and as everyone else said the doorman was great.) Room was acceptable, not the Hilton, but reasonably clean, no bed bugs. Felt safe in the room. You get what you pay for, nothing fancy, just a place to sleep. Only real problem was that the elevators were infefficient and kept breaking down. Room was slightly chilly and heating not very effective. Otherwise room was OK, staff were helpful, and location was excellent.

We picked this hotel because it was one of the most affordable that was still close to everything. The room was TINY - there was maybe a foot between the end of the bed and the wall. The maid service wasn't great - we ended up running out of toilet paper and had to use kleenex! Pillows were flat and bed wasn't that comfortable. I did love the diner […] next door. We ate breakfast every day there - very reasonable for eggs and hashbrowns. The main plus is location - we were able to walk to so much! Mehr

This is great hotel for location in downtown Chicago. A quick walk to public transportation and all of must see attractions. The hotel is in desperate need of a remodel but I have stayed in much worse places. The staff was very friendly and allowed us to leave our bags until our next location was ready for us. I frequent the downtown area and have stayed in many hotels here and I have to say that I will not be staying in this one again. The location is great and but the rooms left something to be desired. If you are looking for a place to sleep for the night that's close to downtown this hotel does the job. The rooms were ultra small (expected of a downtown budget hotel) but were clean. The carpet was an ugly red real worn out, the hotel needs an upgrade of carpets and fixtures really bad. No ironing board in room but dialing room service had them provide […] the board and iron very quick. Mehr

I stayed in this hotel for the 2011 Chicago Marathon and found its location ideal. The hotel is old and it's age is noticeable. You will notice wiring on the trim next to the ceiling and pipes coming out of the ceiling instead of in the walls. The walls of several layers of paint, which is very noticeable. The room I stayed in was on the eighth floor, […] and was very small, with a window air conditioner, which wasn't turned on when I arrived. The bathroom was tiny with the sink not having a counter top around it to put anything on. The only place to stank anything on was a small shelf piece of glass that extended out underneath the mirror. In order to get to the toilet the bathroom door needed to be shut since it blocked access to the toilet when it was open. With all that said, my stay was nice and I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. If you're looking for a value hotel with my frills and don't plan on spending a lot of time in the hotel while in town, then this hotel is a good place to stay. However, if you are turned off my appearance and minor inconveniences, then their are other higher-end hotels within walking distance that I'm sure are nicer. Mehr

Recently went to Chicago for the Marathon. The hotel is in an ideal location and within walking distance to some great sites, etc. Unfortunatly the hotel was pretty run down. The lobby looked nice and the staff was very pleasent and friendly but the room was terrible. Dirty carpet, moldy smell, bathroom door wouldn't shut, fixtures loose on the walls […] and worst of all the "clean towels" in the bathroom did not appear to be clean at all. Mehr

If you are expecting luxury then don't stay here. If you want a very reasonable rate in a great location near the lake/Grant Park/Millennium Park this is your hotel. The room was big enough to set up a mobile crib for my 11 month old and still be able to have space to walk around. It definitely could use some upgrades but I'd rather have a better rate […] than fine furniture. My room was a little noisy at times with the EL going by and people walking/talking outside, but it didn't bother us too much and did not wake up the baby. Maid staff was very nice to us and I tipped them a few extra dollars than normal because they were so pleasant. Parking was a bit costly, it was supposed to be $28 but since we left after 2 pm it was $41.... something I didn't know about when I checked in. Mehr

If just looking for place to sleep and in downtown close to soldier field it's perfect and affordable. Nice staff. Stayed here 2 years in a row for Bears game weekend

This is an older hotel that can be easily overlooked, but we loved the location, and were very comfortable. 10 minute walk to Willis tower, 15 minute walk to downtown highlights. Looks great with recent renovations! Very friendly hotel staff.

This hotel is not a Five Star but is totally adequate and acceptable. The pricing is great. The rooms were just fine except for uncomfortable pillows. The area is great; very safe and within blocks of very vibrant areas of Chicago. The staff was friendly and accommodating too. I'd return without hesitation.

I got a 20% off deal on this hotel through hotels.com. You're not going to impress anyone by bringing them herebut if you're kisy looking for somewhere to crash while you're working or out on the town, it's a great deal on a decent hotel. The location is perfect and the rooms are big. Very big actually. The staff was helpful and the room was kept […] very clean. There's a lot of evident wear on the carpets but it doesn't mean the place is dirty. I was really impressed by not only the bedroom size but the bathroom was huge also. All tile but not a whole lot of shelf space. No big deal. The hot water pressure sort of sucked though. I would for sure stay here again, especially if I'm in town alone and am just coming and going. If you want to impress people, stay at the Palmer House or W, if you want a no frills good deal in a great location, this is your hotel. Mehr

This hotel is an amazing deal for the price. The location could not get better - blocks from Millenium Park, two blocks from the train, around the corner from restaurants, schools, etc. The room was a bit small but that's understandable for older hotels. The beds, linens, and pillows were clean and comfy, the bathroom was new, free wifi, it's a great […] place. I will definitely stay here again. You don't get any extra amenities with this hotel, but if that is not what you are looking for, this is a very reasonably priced hotel in a great location downtown. My friend and I walked nearly everywhere we went. The staff were courteous and friendly, but not always that knowledgeable about the surrounding area. I was told by a rep for Hotels.com that this hotel was something to be excited about...let me tell you I wanted to puke when I walked into my room!! It was so small, someone could lose a thought in it! It smelled funny & 2 of my items magically went missing. Don't ever stay here!! EVER!!

The room was much smaller than I expected for the price we paid. It was about 40 min (walking) from the navy pier, about 30 min (walking) from both shedd aquarium and the skydeck. It was a short cab ride from Union station and the magnificent mile. The location is ideal, but the room is small and stuffy. The airconditioner is window mounted, and right next to the bed. it was both noisy, and created a draft over the bed. The conditioner could have been mounted in the alternate window to make the room more comfortable.

The room was very small. The beds were not comfortable, in fact you could see the sway in the matress and the pillows were extremely flat. The maid service was poor. We had to request toilet paper and clean wash cloths, more than once.

Front desk wasn't very helpful and different services didn't work. Unless your top priority is saving $30 in a downtown area, skip this hotel
