The staff at the hotel were very pleasant, thoughtful of our needs and most cooperative. I was very impressed that I received a phone call en route back to Sydney to advise me that I had left a ring in the bathroom. they couldn't have done more for us.

Although we arrived at 5pm on a Saturday it took 3 rings of the front desk bell and 5+minutes before anyone appeared to check us in. Was then advised that even though our room had been fully paid for when we booked (4 weeks prior), they would deduct a $60 from my credit card for future expenses from the mini bar or room service that, if not used, would […] be recredited 4 or 5 days later! I find this quite insulting. Our room was satisfactory, but the TV was tiny, there were only wine glasses, the bedside lamps and phone wouldn't work - we discover later that all the power points behind had been turned off - and there was no bench for our bags.To top it all off, the WiFi did not work. When we rang through to get the password at 7pm and were advised that because the hotel was fairly full, we would probably not be able to use the WiFi - which is what happened. NOT GOOD ENOUGH! For the rates charged I would have expected a much higher standard of service and facilities. Very disappointed. Mehr

We really enjoyed our stay at the Diplomat Hotel. We had a large, spacious room and the staff at reception were brilliant.

Unfortunately we weren't able to spend a great deal of time at the hotel, but whilst we were there we were very happy with the service and cleanliness of the hotel in general. Staff were only too happy to help too !

The hotel is ok the staff are really great but generally the hotel is rather run down and the infrastructure is pretty run down. The 'gym' is terrible

Great location close to Manuka and Kingston restaurant strips. You do need your car but good parking provided. Close to old bus depot markets well worth a visit on Sundays.

The TV screen was the size of a standard desktop computer screen, and was positioned in the corner of the room 4 meters away from the bed. I've never seen such a small TV in any hotel I've stayed at. In addition one of the our bedside lamps did not even have a light-bulb in it, and the person manning reception appeared to be the only employee on duty […] in the entire hotel. Mehr

Everything was fine just upset that to get the free wifi i had to stand next to my door. Staff are great and helpful, Location is perfect too!!!

The bed was atrocious. The mattress lost its spring and was tilted to 1 side. At one point, one can feel the bed frame when you laid on the mattress

I asked for toothbrushes for my family which I assumed would be complimentary in a 4* hotel and not being told otherwise by the reception staff. I paid $20 on check out for 4 lousy throw away toothbrushes. The buffet breakfast was pretty ordinary too.

Overall this hotel is dated, old and badly appointed. It really has no positive points to discuss, the rooms inwardly overlook the most awful of restaurants that plays music from 6:30am to 11pm - music that can easily be heard in the rooms, the restaurant is basic to say the least and most people avoided it, the bar is situated in the centre of the […] restaurant and charges over the top prices for average drinks. The rooms are so old and dated, and mine had a musty smell that made me want to leave, the sound insulation in the hotel is very poor - in the room and bathroom you could both hear others banging around and talking in adjoining rooms. The bathroom was old and the shower head was small, clogged and dirty. The area around the hotel is ok - in the sense that it is a good area - but there is nothing... Overall I felt like I was in a hostel rather than a hotel and I have paid less money in Canberra for a lot more, if you are stuck in Canberra for a room when the Pollies are in town and this is your only option. Cancel your trip. Go another time. Be sick. Anything but stay here. Mehr

Thought the room was a bit small for the cost.Ihave stayed in rooms a bit closer to the city that were 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms with balcony,kitchen and loungeroom and cost less than the room only that we were in.

We spent two nights here during early January with two children. We had two very comfortable queen size beds with a choice of different pillows. The room was spacious so the children had room to play and the shower / bath was perfect for the kids. There was a table and seating for 4 for in house meals, and easy parking [ most undercover]. The room was […] quiet and we were not disturbed by the comings and goings of our neighbours, the plumbing or the lift, which was conveniently close to our room. The pool was a hit with the children and a great way to end a busy day in Canberra. it would have been hot in the middle of the day though as there wasn't much shade. The staff were helpful and friendly and the hotel was generous with towels, shampoos etc. The hotel was ideally located for us - a short drive to Manuka, questacon, the art gallery and national library . We did not eat at the restaurant or drink at the bar so I can't comment on that. Overall, a really enjoyable stay. Mehr

The beds were clean andd very comfortable. The shower had great water pressure and was very refreshing. The food was good and the staff were very freindly. I would gladly look at taking taking my family back for another stay there.

For the price and for a 4.5 stars i was expecting much more: - not very clean room: looked behind the bed and saw it has not been cleaned for a while; - we went for a dinner and I ordered a spaghetti al pomodoro (tomato sauce) from the kids menu for my daugther and they used a hot spicy pre made tomato sauce. I returned the dish and the were unable […] to replace as they only had hot spicy tomato sauces. They gave her a chicken risoto which was ok. For my wife we ordered an eggplant based dish which were far from fresh. My 450g rib with gorgonzola was as solid as a thick piece of rubber.
