The York by Swiss-Belhotel International - Sydney

Very happy with everything, will DEFINITELY stay at the York Apartments again..Thumbs up!

This hotel was walking distance from The Rocks, Circular Quay, the Opera House and more. It's a block from the Wynyard station. Everything we wanted to do was easily accessible from this hotel. The unit was large, clean and comfortable. It had everything we needed and more. The only advice I'd give to the owners is to remove the wallpaper from the […] bathroom. The flowered wallpaper and avocado floor do not match at all. Aesthetically, I think this property needs a little updating and that's the only reason I can't give it 5 stars across the board. Mehr

Great location for attending a conference at the Amora Jamison Hotel - but half the price of staying at that hotel. Huge room (as big as my apartment back home) and very comfortable. If you were in Sydney for an extended stay this would be the perfect place to settle in.

We had a studio room, good value as there was a kitchen, table and large sofa as well as good size bathroom with a washer/dryer. We didn't really need this as we only stayed one night and chose it on price and location. Great value though for a longer stay. OK pool area but no hotel lounge/bar and the restaurant is not accessed directly from the hotel. Great value for money within walking distance to the Bridge, Circular Key, Darling Harbour & CBD. Bathroom a little dated but very clean. Room was big & outside balcony a plus

Looks better from the outside than on the inside. Bathroom needed some renovation with cracked tiles, rusting appliances and a horrible plastic toilet seat. The pool is a little bit small however my room was well away from the lift which was quiter. I only stayed in this hotel for one night on a short trip to Sydney, and was quite thankful. The location is great, 5 minutes walk to the Rocks and Circular Quay, however the hotel does not live up to this location, or it's 4.5 star rating. The rooms are big, however look as though they were last decorated in the 90s. The furniture is threadbare and […] very dated, and the kitchen and appliances look like a health hazard. This hotel was lovely. It's got an outdoor pool, air conditioning that you can set, comfortable bedding, great amenities and the room is made up nicely every day. The location is fantastic to the train station, just a 3 minute walk away. It's also close to The Rocks, Opera House and CBD shopping. The only downside was the old bathroom. I loved this hotel, the room was really spacious, with separate, eating, dining, sleeping and kitchen areas, and the washing machine and tumble dryer were very useful. Not many of the hotels in Sydney have balconies, but this one has balconies for every room. The staff were very friendly and helpful and anything that needed to be fixed was done straight […] away. The customer service at the York leave sa lot to be desired. The staff do nothing to try to help you or make your stay comfortable. I arrived at 12noon to be told my room wouldn't be ready until 1.30- no possibility of an earlier room. When asked about where i should wait staff just shrugged their shoulders at me. Check-out the next morning was rushed. […] At 10 past 10 in the morning my room phone was already ringing asking me when am i leaving. The hotel wasn't even that full so not sure of the rush. The room itself was a very good size and i liked having a balcony. The furniture and fittings are getting old and tired. I would say this hotel is closer to a 3 star then a 4.5. Mehr

Walking distance to all the great icons, Harbour Bridge, Opera House, Quay and The Rocks

We've been coming to the York since 1997, and it remains our favorite place to stay in Sydney. The one-bedroom units with sofa bed are just right for our family to settle into. Room amenities and hotel facilities enable us to convert our room into our home away from home on arrival. I booked this place for a few nights for my honeymoon. I thought based on the star rating and user rating on hotels.com that it would be more of a "luxury" kind of a place. It definitely was NOT. The room was extremely dated and worn out. The couches were torn, some of the chairs were broken and not safe to sit on. The remote for the TV in the living […] room did not work (would only turn the TV on and off, not change channels). The bathroom was small and, again, very old and run down. The pool and hot tub were also run down. On the plus side, it is a convenient location, right near Wynyard station and a quick walk to the central quay area. Also our unit had in-room washer and dryer, which was nice (though again, they were old and run down, but at least they worked). If you are prepared to deal with run down accomodations and you can get a room for a great deal, maybe consider it. You do get a lot of space at least. Otherwise, don't bother. Mehr

We spent 2 nights at The York at the end of our honeymoon. It was a great hotel situated in an ideal location which enabled us to walk to most places with ease. Darling Harbour, The Rocks, Circular Key and The Opera House are just some of the locations that can be reached within 10-15 mins by foot. Have been in 4.5star places before and this would be more 3 star. Location was excellent. Cleanliness was ok and desk staff ok.

This is a nice hotel in a great location. So great infact that I spent a total of 3 hours in the room because I was busy seeing Sydney.

Although it is more condo like, the York has room service for bfood but no bar. Dining from takeout taxi type service is great..lots of great choices of Western, Asian and Pizza, burger gourmet foods and need not leave the comfort of the studio room we were in. Our large style fridge even had ice. In lobby area outside the front door are two Asian type […] small restaurants and a bar half block away . Great price and great experience getting over 2 days jetlag in Australian urban setting. Mehr

Stayed at the York with the wife for NYE. The York is an older building that has had been renovated. The room was spacious (stayed in a studio) and clean. There is a good sized, fully equipped kitchen - we had breakfast in the apartment every morning before heading out. Did not use the minibar, although the prices weren't bad. It is listed as 4 star […] but Aussie standards are not as high as the Americas. The Bathroom is large but nothing special and the washer/ dryer in the bathroom were old (but functional). There is no divide between the kitchen and the sleeping area, which means that the fridge compressor may keep a light sleeper awake. The closets and some aspects of the decor could do with updating. The safe could not hold my 13" lap top and the Wi-fi surcharge is completely ridiculous!! $8 for an hour?? The hotel is in walking distance to everything - Darling Harbour, Circular Quay are easy 10-15 minute walks. There are lots of restaurants and shops on George and Pitt street nearby. There is no restaurant in the hotel but the Japanese restaurant on the same building does good, affordable food. Check-in/ check-out were no issues and they did offer to book our return shuttle to the airport but we had already done so on-line. Staff were generally polite and helpful. Overall, a good place to stay to get out and see Sydney. Comfortable but don't expect too much. Good value for a NYE trip. Mehr
