Very comfortable, room slightly small but OK, very pricey though for a midweek stay (well, Bank Holiday Monday night). Would use again though if I could get a discount

Very pleased with the hotel, location perfect and good to have car parking in Oxford. Our room was small but well-equipped and quiet. It was adequate, reception wasn't good. A room on the top floor without lifts is difficult, especially if heavy cases and no male staff.Location good as lots of buses pass the door. Pretty good value for money

Great staff, rooms were clean, comfortable and well-maintained. The only complaint - and it's a minor one - is that the location was a little further away than I would've liked.

On arrival, allocated dark basement room by rear car park but requested change and was immediately changed to a 2nd floor room. Good response from hotel front desk staff.

The quality of services are fine. When I booked the room and it meant to double bed and they told me that theres is no more double beds left and only 2 single beds which wasn't a good news. The other negative point I found is that the towels are not all clean, I took one from the wardrobes and it has so many black dust on the towel which is disappointed. […] Other than that, the rooms are okay, providing kettle and hot tea plus chocolate. However, it is quit a effort to walk to the train station. Takes at least 20 minutes. Finally, I believe the hotel is okay, but definitely not a hotel I would stay again for this price and the condition of hotel. Mehr

Good location, the first room had the radiator full blast & it was impossible to turn it down. Staff came & fiddled with it, told me it was fixed. It was not, eventually they upgraded us to another room, where the heating did not work at all. Staff tried to turn it on but could not do it.

Surprised that no food was available on a Sunday evening -especially during cold weather periods. Tea, coffee, sugar etc in room was not at all adequate perhaps it had not been checked prior to occupancy. Breakfast choice of hot and cold foods was excellent.

We had some issues checking in and ended up being assigned to a room occupied by another family. We were moved to a room with twin beds instead of a double, which was noted as a possibility when we booked but was not our preference. Aside from this our stay was good and the location of the hotel is excellent.

The staff were extremely helpful and friendly, but were let down by the general standard of the hotel. The en-suite was shabby, heating pipes in the room were extremely noisy, and although I appreciate the age of the building and a requirement to maitain original features, the staircase leading to the rooms was narrow and noisy. Poor glazing meant […] a noisy dawn chorus of delivery trolleys and creaky floorboards were probably more annoying for those in the room below. Location of the hotel is excellent for exploring the city centre on foot but not so central to be subject to traffic noise. Mehr

We stayed one night, and was first given a room on the 3rd floor, as we went to put the keycard into the lock, the door was open, as we walked in we noticed that the room was already occupied, there were several items of personal belongings on the bed and floor.I phoned reception and was given another room, the staff were sorry and helpfull

The room was very noisy. You could hear a lot of people passing by the room, hear the neighbours talking and the fire alarm went off in the middle of the night, just because someone opened a fire door.

An excellent hotel in a central location. Our room (for which we paid the VIP supplement) overlooked the Examinations Hall of Oxford University which is a wonderful building. The reception staff were friendly, the bar relaxed and comfortable and the food in the restaurant fantastic. Our room was large and tastefully furnished, it had a sloping ceiling […] in parts which we loved even though I bumped my head occasionally in the night when I tried to walk around in the dark so as not to wake my wife. One review mentioned the narrowness of the entrance to the car park which had me worried because I'm very protective of my car, but I found no problems. It is an old building and it was probably built for a coach and horses but I had no problem getting my mercedes through. Mehr

Lovely hotel, boutique feel about it. Great location. I have marked down maintenance as the heating in our room didn't work and they couldn't fix it but they did move us to an alternate room. V. clean and comfortable, great oxford base and would definitely book again

Stayed for 2 nights in a single room, about the size of a student's dorm room - had a great view of the Examinations' School though - no bath, water pressure in the shower was very weak. Front desk staff was unwilling to grant a late check-out for 1pm (from 12 noon) even though it wasn't high season.

The only problem is two faucets (one for hot and one for cold water) in bath tub and in sink, but I presume that everywhere in England is the same. Wi-fi was free.

Hotels.com mentioned guests would get a gift when booking a vip room or as the hotel calls it an exec room. There was no gift there nor was it mentioned by anyone. Not sure if whatever it was was worth asking for but let's not offer and not deliver

Hotel is in a good location, central to all the main sights of Oxford. The communal areas are pleasant but the room itself was quite tired and could have done with both decorating and new furniture. Also quite noisy based on the road outside and the noise from neighbouring rooms and corridor. Would stay here again for convenience but not sure that the […] 4 stars are justified! Mehr

The heating could not be switched off in the room and I almost had to resort to sleeping in my car. I had an unbearable night's sleep.No offer or compensation was offered. Not handled very well.

we booked a standard double room for full price. But our stay was spoiled by misrepresentation of a single attic room as a double. It was tiny and uncomfortable. Otherwise the hotel was good but this misrepresentation and the failure of the manager to follow-up on our complaint destroyed our confidence in Mercure or Accor group generally. Very pleased with our choice, especially with the location.Overall very good but not perfect. Bathroom heating pretty non existent and needed upgrading.Light nowhere near mirror making shaving challenging. Main room fine.Car parking bit messy and narrow car park entrance. However would certainly stay here again because of location.

The location of the Hotel is very good, just off High Street in the medieval street leading to parks and very famous Oxford Colleges. We were given a tiny-tiny room in the loft conversion on the third floor with single glazing and central hitting turned off. So the windows were misty and we can not see any view out the window to enjoy old Oxford roof […] tops. The room was so small that there was not enough room for two people in the sitting area. The bathroom was clean, the bed was comfortable and clean. No coffee maker in the room, no complimentary bottle of water or any other touch of luxury. In fact it is less comfortable to stay than an average budget hotel nowadays. Breakfast and parking fees were additional hidden costs. Mehr

When we arrived, they tried to give us a room adjacent to the roof and a noisy motorised ventilator. When we complained, they changed us to a much nicer room and everything was better from that point forward. The pricey car park was a bit of a minus.

Nice hotel, good room but the service is quite poor.You can wait for a drink in the bar while the staff literally do anything but serve, put candles out , clean glasses etc. The check out was a nighmare, my room was prepayed and at checkout I had a car waiting to take me to Heathrow while they figured out how to remove charges from my bill.

The hotel has no business centre for computer use.There is a lift but you also have to tackle stairs, a draw back with heavy luggage. Usually only 1 person on the desk and therefore very long waiting time for service. Excellent car park facilites. Oxford is a lovely town, don't let this horrible hotel ruin your stay! The rooms are old, dirty and shabby (& we had the fancy honeymoon room!); towels and sheets have holes in them; hot & cold water have separate faucets, and shower has NO hot water at all. Also NO elevator to 3d floor, and you can't even get coffee. We prepaid for 2 nights and they […] did not clean our room a single time, despite several requests. Staff is totally incompetent. They had never heard of The Cotswolds, which is only the largest attraction in the Oxfordshire area. The level of service and accommodation are worse than a hostel, and the hotel isn't a bargain! Don't be penny-wise and dollar-foolish like we were, stay at The Old Bank hotel or Malmaison and make the most of your Oxford holiday! Mehr

When your hotel is in an old building you expect to make concessions, but fire doors + straggly staircases quickly lose their charm. The hotel is right in the centre of Oxford (approx 15 to 20 minutes walk from the train station), and was ideally situated for seeing local sights. Stayed for two nights, and although didn't have dinner in the hotel, breakfast was excellent and staff were friendly and helpful. The room was clean and relatively spacious. I chose the Mercure as it appeared to offer a good quality hotel in an excellent location. I was attending a wedding in one of the Oxford colleges only a few hundred meters away. The quality of the rooms was very nice and the bathroom very spacious. The bed was a single yet this was not indicated on the reservation and I was slightly disappointed.
