This property is an older landmark in the city of Rockford, Illinois and apparently still plays host to a number of weddings because of its location above the Rock River. That said, it's apparent that the owners are slowly remodeling (bathrooms are updated as are mattresses), but the overall rooms remain spartan and dated. One important note here is […] that the hotel's restaurant is closed until April 1 for maintenance. This should probably be posted in the promotional information, but wasn't. We had a memorial service for my motherr with 9 family members coming in from out of town and we all stayed at the Lexington. Our reservation through Hotels.com went very smooth. The building itself was truly amazing with so many details to look at of furniture, paintings and woodwork that had been brought in from older hotels, halls and ships. The staff was outstanding, even allowing us to use a conference room at no charge for 4 hours to create picture memory boards for the memorial service. Everyone was kind and efficient. The hot breakfast in the morning in the lounge off the main lobby was great and the eating/lounge area was comfortable with beautiful views of the Rock River and a fireplace. We also had a great view of the river in our double queen room. The food in the restaurant was great at times and at other times poor. The wait staff was very capable and kind. There was plenty of hot water for showers and each room had sufficient amenities. The TV was very old and the picture was poor but that was rather minor. I would stay there again! They also had many levels of rooms that would be fun to stay in for special events and beautiful banquet halls that would be excellent for any event. Mehr

I needed a hotel close to the airport, it was not! It took a good 20 min. in the opposite direction of the airport. I chose it also for the free breakfast, which didn't start until 6:30, and we needed to be at the airport to check in by 6:30, so had to buy my breakfast anyway instead of getting it free with the room. Stayed at this hotel 2 nights, as my daughter was in a wedding. Could use more lighting outside, in parking lot, got to the hotel at night and, not being fmiliar w/ the area, was a little nervous unloading the car by myself with my 3 year old daughter. the hotel decor seems a little dated and needs updating. breakfast on sunday was awful compared to just the day before. the tv stations were erratic and some couldn't be heard.

Cliffbreakers was convenient for our wedding stay. We had friends and family there as well as the rehearsal dinner. An amazing seafood buffet that everyone enjoyed. So worth it!

We stayed here over the first weekend in July for a wedding when it was over 100 degrees outside. I will say on behalf of the hotel that they are undergoing renovations. However, I do not believe any of the issues we had while there had anything to do with that. First of all, when we entered the room it was just as hot inside as it was outside. We turned […] on the A/C and let it run for 2 hours with little change before we complained. The A/C was broken and we were quickly given a new room. The new room was a renovated room, but it clearly wasn't completed. The bathroom had only one dim light and the faucet in the tub was dirty & rusted. The sheets on the bed were rough, not soft, and it didn't seem like the blanket fit the bed. The walls are thin and the hotel was noisy. The worst was the carpet on the floor (something that we noticed in the first room, as well) - the carpets were DIRTY. Once out of the shower, to walk on the floor barefoot quickly turned your feet black...not a good thing when you have a 3 year old and 15 month old playing on the floor. Our window had blinds, but no window treatment - meaning no blackout curtains that keep out the morning sun. We complained about the lack of window treatment and, after it was confirmed with the maintenance guy that there was nothing there, we were told we would either get a curtain or be given a new room. Neither came to be. The nightly rate was way too high for what we got - a dirty room and marginal service. Mehr

Friendly staff, beautiful decor. We enjoyed the bar over looking the river. The beds very comfortable. The food for breakfast not so great, it had a typical eggs, potatoe, sausage for hot food but just very tasty. The bagels not fresh. Wish they had a waffle station, fresh fruit and pastries. Nice thing you ate on normal plates.

I booked my hotel so I could attend a reception on site and stay overnight. My room was beautiful... a king bed, whirlpool tub, lovely room. The coffee I made in the room was excellent coffee. The bed was a little too soft for me, but very nice. The facilities for the reception were absolutely beautiful, and service was impeccable. The only complaint […] I have is that the elevator NEVER came to my floor.... I had to take the stairs. Mehr

Nice staff, cute place. I wouldn't consider this a 3 star hotel, but neither was the price. The room was decent, two beds, a couch, desk, and simple tube TV. The view is spectacular and worth the price alone. Even if you don't stay here you should have a drink or meal overlooking the river.

The hotel is under renovation, but did not affect stay. Was nicer than I expected based on reviews and pics posted online. Bed was very cozy and hotel was very quiet even with wedding and other events taking place. Restaurant was very good!

Bed was comfortable, decor was different from the typical hotel chain you see. Nice view of the rock river. I however was not informed that the workout facility was closed for renovation and the pool is too small to get a swim workout in. I will stay here again once the renovations issues are complete.

This hotel has some nice features. When new it must a been a great showplace when built. However, it desperately needs some TLC now, updating, new carpeting, etc. Still, it is not a bad place to stay if you want to be on the north side of town.

My family was absolutely thrilled with this hotel, especially my children, ages 7 and 9. I was not as thrilled. The decor was dark and outdated, which added to the charm, but made everything seem less-than-clean. The children loved the different alcoves to sit in, the sculptures and water features to look at, the balcony to look out over the lobby, […] and the comfy beds. We had a good stay here. The service was fabulous, the room was fine and the location is great being right on the Rock River. Nice views from our room. Complimentary breakfast was very good, not the greatest variety, but eggs, sausage, hash browns were very tasty. While the hotel is functional, it can stand for some updating. By the way, the layout of the king loft room is very unique. The manager Tahara was the best. Gave us a tour of the hotel and all the antiques. Amazing! Check out the special "theme" rooms with gorgeous antiques-Honeymoon room, Presidential Suite, and the amazing Sultan's Suite! Stay in that room! gorgeous views of nature on the Rock River out the window of your own private dining room. Rent bikes and ride along […] the river bike path. It's the only decent place to stay on that side of Rockford (NW) and that's where I was visiting. The price is right for what you're getting, but I had a couple of what I think are deal-breakers for the future. I came back to the room at 9:30 pm and the door was propped open with the extra lock (the way housekeeping sometimes does when running for supplies). […] No one had any idea why - all my stuff was still where I left it - no one in the room - but it upset me. The other thing is they have a very nice breakfast room and an exceptional breakfast, but they were at the bottom of the coffee every single morning. I was never able to fill one cup without waiting and sometimes there wasn't any in progress. One person trying to keep up with a large room full of weekend breakfast guests just didn't cut it. Mehr

I have stayed at Cliff breakers two years before, and the level of sevice had dropped dramatically. The hotel itself is full of beautiful antiques and very spacious. The front desk help was a weak link in an otherwise pleasent stay. We were in our room late on the first day, so asked for maid service as we left, not done. Same thing the next day, so […] we emptied our own trash and got clean towels. Finally on our last day we got maid service, but it looked like they didn't vaccum. Our room keys got demagnitized so we called the front desk to bring us new ones, they were all outside on a smoke break, so no one answered the phone. I could go on... Mehr

Timing is everything and if I had known that a kids soccer team was staying there at the same time I would have stayed elsewhere. You can hear EVERYTHING that happens outside of the rooms door. Check in was efficient and clerk was quite nice. We were on the same floor as the desk, pool, and work out room, and the only thing we were disappointed in was the smell in the hallway as you got closer to the workout room - not pleasant at all.

I have stayed here occasionally over 8 years. It is not what it use to be. The heat did not work in the first room. There were 3 lights bulbs out in the 2nd room. The night person changed 2. At breakfast they ran out of milk, forks were not available, and the silverware was on a dirty napkin. In addition the carpet in some areas if very dirty. I complained […] to the manger. She said renovations were coming. Because the location is good for me, I told her I would gladly pay more if the facility and service were better. I will not stay again until things change and I do not recommend Cliffbreakers. Mehr

Coming in from Michigan on a cold snowy blusttery night, for a 3night 4 day stay this hotel was not only courteous, beautiful and delicately decorated, but was also very close and conveniently located to shopping and other surrounding restauraunts. Rooms were immaculate with fridge/microwaves, the view was spectacular, beds very comfortable and the […] guest baskets in the bathroom were wonderful. A truly wonderful experience and we travel quite often. Highly recommend and when we come back to the Illinois area again - there is NO other Choice for us - except for Cliffbreakers. Lots to do, staff is the best - just cant say enough wonderful things! Great food/drinks. And I am a neat freak! Thank you for the warm hospitality and a wonderful hotel! BE PROUD - you deserve it! I was drawn in by the prospect of a fireplace in the room and the notion of having two floors sounded charming. What we found was just very average. The bed linens were average, the breakfast was fine but not great. It seemed like a place that used to be nice at one time and now is just a bit run down. I would not return.
