Our room was clean and comfortable. It was within walking distance to where we wanted to go on our visit. We were misinformed about the price of the breakfast (we were told it was $5.95 for the full breakfast but when we went for breakfast it was nearly $12.00 per person). We could not afford that and told the waiter what we were told by the rep at […] the front desk and he kindly charged for only one of us. It was just my husband and I. We will probably stay there again but we know to go to McDonalds for breakfast. Mehr

Best hotel!!! Beds are awesome!!!

I have stayed at other plaza hotels and this one was the worst of them. Needed minor updates and upkeeping in lots of areas. The parking was only accessible via stairs and I had to carry my luggage up and down.

We were given keys to a room that was already occupied by another family and their belongings. The room was listed in the front desk computer as "unoccupied." Interesting. We did get another room, and it was OK.

Very friendly service, above average room, free internet, good location.

The room was attractive and seemed to be recently redone, but the tv was old and the shower/tub had remnants of soap scum in the holder from the previous guests and some hair, too, making it seem that they"forgot" to clean it. I liked that they provided us by asking in advance with a feather free room. The hotel is near Scope, a convention center in […] downtown Norfolk, but it is also across the street from the housing projects and after parking your car downstairs in the lot, you have to make your way to the lobby which is several floors up. Its difficult to get suitcases up and down. Perhaps there was an elevator I didn't find. Still, it is in downtown Norfolk and the rate was very low. The fitness room was adequate. Lots of huge, noisy parties both nights I was there. The noise did not reach the rooms, but the parties continued into the elevator and on the floors. Also, meant there was little parking. If I went back, I think I would find a smaller hotel more in the center or on the water. Mehr

I've been to 4 and 5 star hotels. My main stay in hotels is Embassy, Hilton, Sheraton an a few higher class hotels. I truly enjoyed my stay at this hotel. The food and drinks were nice. The hospitality was truly outstanding. I read the negative response before I picked this hotel. I also read the positive responses and they outweighed the negative. […] It's a good thing because I would have missed out on a gem of a hotel. I will be back. Thanks for a wonderful stay. Mehr

This was a very nice hotel , had great staff , who were very nice and energetic, Staff also made sure I got to my destination safely, But I would recommend anyone to stay at this lovely establishment.

When I form an opinion on a hotel, it is all in relationship to the price of the stay. I expect way more from an expensive room than I do from an inexpensive room. This sounds sort of obvious, but I don't think everyone sees it that way. Having said that, for the small price I was charged, this hotel was an incredible bargain. The front desk person […] was helpful, the room was clean, and there was ample parking. I don't understand earlier comments about having to pay to park- mine was totally free in a fairly secure, large fenced-in parking lot surrounding the building. Yes the bathroom was tiny, and yes the TV wasn't a flat screen, put for the price I would highly recommend this facility and I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. Mehr

over all very good experience, one tiny complaint about the cardio fitness equipment which needs maintenance and perhaps replacement.

I rented an Executive Suite. It was supposed to come with a refrigerator and microwave and it did not. The sleep number bed did not work. It smelled like grandma's house and I don't mean fresh bread! It looked like a Pimp decorated it in shiny shades of mauve, grey and black. If you park yourself, there is NO ACCESS to the hotel without hauling your […] bags up a case of stairs. The Bus Station is across the street and it seemed like there were homeless people in the parking lot and in the the lobby. This was a NEVER STAY AGAIN Experience. Mehr

The room was very clean and the mattresses comfortable but the pillows were quite soft and comfortable overall I would stay there again and recommend to friends

I chose this hotel because of it's location near my business meetings. I was shocked to find out they charge guests to park their cars on the hotel's fenced lot. The only free parking is on the street. At what the hotel chareges for a room, a registared guest should at least have a parking spot provided. I WON't be back.

My husband and I stayed one night and had no issues with this older property. The room was clean and comfortable and we slept as well as we do in any bed away from home. We would stay there again if a need arises to be overnight in Norfolk.

Crown Plaza is notorious for inconsistent quality, and this property is no exception. It is nicely located in downtown Norfolk, and the staff are pleasant and helpful. However, for a premier location, the rooms are outdated and not very comfortable. The sealed building means you get what you get from the HVAC. The first room I had smelled so bad, and […] the "air bed" pump did not work making the mattress unsleepable. Changed rooms, and it was better. I will not stay here again. Mehr

Upon arriving at 11:30pm, all I wanted to do was crawl in bed. I was too tired to inspect the room for cleaniness and upon waking in the morning to take a shower, the tub was simply disgusting. This was an overnight stay for work so, I didn't complain too much. Probably should have. Oh, and if you get the room with a full breakfast, make sure you get […] the breakfast card. The hotel attendant neglected to give it to me and I had a hell of a time getting one the next morning. And, if you're like me and you love eggs, REAL eggs, you will be disappointed. We stayed at this hotel for a one night stop in the middle of a *very* long drive, and on our anniversary no less. The staff was so incredibly sweet and accommodating, wanting to make sure we had a romantic and comfortable stay. It was a great night!

I had a nice stay at the Crowne Plaza hotel on Monticello. The staffs were VERY nice, especially one name Kahn. The building lobby was well decorated, the pool was nice, but can use some fixing up. The room was comfortable, but the bathroom can use a little work. One suggestion is to make the building more handicapped accessible. I wasn't wheelchair […] bound, but it's a pain to limp up and down stairs on crutches. Overall, not bad of a place to stay for a few days. Beds and sheets were clean and comfortable. The hotel was nice. The rooms were a little cramped, expected a little more space. It also would have been nice to have a frig. and microwave. Overall the stay was lovely.

Excellent hotel. Stayed 4 nights and could not have enjoyed it more. Clean, excellent service, great location. Some folks will grumble about the parking fee's, I will not. I used the valet service and will do so again. Wonderful stay! I will be back.

For the price I paid I feel there should have been an iron in the room. The bathroom door would not close and the place where the roll of toilet paper goes was broke. The ceiling had some defects that looked like the repairs where unfinished. These are simple repairs that should not have been overlooked and could have changed my opinion of your hotel. […] While in the pool area there was no shade which I would expect either with umbrellas or overhangs. Stayed one night at Crowne Plaza. I was very impressed with the friendly staff. They made a noticeable effort to please their clients. The hotel seems old and dated. Room smelled musty or of smoke...not quite sure what the smell was, but it wasn't appealing. Bed was not comfortable at all. I was nervous about the hotel after reading some of the reviews but overall, I would recommend. The hotel is nicely decorated but it is an old building so there is only so much to be done. The AC room in the room I stayed at dripped so the noise was a nuisance in the middle of the night. Room 702 was mildew and the ceiling was falling. Then the next room (1115) floor was wet. Then in the evening a roach that was more 5 inches long ran into the room. At that point we left and the roach had the room for the night. I could. Not imagine a 5 inch bug crawling in bed with my wife and I.

When looking at the pictures of the hotel it looked like we were getting a spacious room with two king size beds and a luxurious pool that encompassed the entire front of the hotel. Upon arrival we found first that it was not on the waterfront as told, it was several blocks away. It was located next to a seedy part of Norfolk. The room was average size […] with two King size beds crammed together. The mattresses we're lumpy and deformed. Our first night we went to the hotel restaurant which was devoid of waitresses. We were finally seated, after waiting and trying to decide if we were to seat ourselves or not. The second night we spent 20 minutes trying to find an ice machine that had ice. We accidentally found a workman who took us to the restaurant for ice. Upon returning we rode on the elevator with the general manager and owner, who had been walking his dog. We kept our seething inside until the owner asked how we were doing. We mentioned we had spent 20 minutes looking for ice and he never said another word. Mehr

This is a lovely hotel in an accessible location that seems to be poorly managed. We stayed six nights and at least two of those days our room was not cleaned and the beds were unmade. We also had to call for towels on the days they did not clean the room. The one time that the room was really cleaned properly, it was cleaned very well and they clearly […] tried hard. I wish we knew who cleaned it that day because I would have left a nice tip, but the cleaning staff changed every day and it was a crap shoot whether it would be cleaned at all. One day they made only one of the two beds and took the dirty towels, leaving us with none for showering on our return from the beach. The bathroom was extremely dark - due only in part to the one lightbulb that needed replacing. We largely felt ignored during our stay - the staff was overall very inconsistent. I wish we had taken names, because they were either wonderful and obviously trying hard to please, or couldn't care less. Perhaps they are simply understaffed and can only do so much. The wait staff and host in the restaurant was very attentive during our included breakfasts, and the menu was varied and a good value. This could be a really great hotel if properly staffed and managed, but overall we were much less than thrilled. Mehr

It was a decent hotel. Front desk staff, tiffany and Iescia in the restaurant were always pleasant and professional and Nathan the GM was extremely helpful and professional. Housekeeping was hit and miss. They have sleep number beds but do not make note of it, so if our beds would not have been on the softest level where we had to call the front desk […] about it, we would never have know. They should have a table tent by the bed to advertise this. It is a nice perk. The hotel is accross the street from public housing but never had a problem, never heard a siren, never worried about walking in the area. I block over is Granby street, full of great restaurants. Norfolk is a nice town and the Crowne Plaza is in a good location. Also within walking distance to McArthur Mall. Mehr

The hotel and nice and relaxing.

Our experience at the Crown Plaza was livable for a night but we don't recommend it. The staff were friendly and helpful and our room was clean. The problem was that it smelled terribly of mildew and mold. We are not very picky and have never asked to be moved at a hotel before this but we called down almost immediately based on the smell that was unavoidable […] as we walked to our room and within our room as well. It smelt like they badly needed to open a window or run fans. The front desk was very nice and moved us immediately. Problem was that the new floor smelled equally bad. We decided to tough it out and once fully in our room realized there were no windows that could be opened and the bathroom did not have a fan. So any moisture from showering etc. doesn't have a good way of being dried out. Overall, liveable but not an enjoyable hotel experience. Mehr

Noisy neighbors!

Love this hotel!! Great location. Friendly and very helpful staff. Awesome pool. Very clean. Affordable.

Overall this was a comfortable property in close proximity to the conference that i was attending. The neighborhood was a little sketchy, but I still walked around and didn't have any problems. What really made my stay was Amber at their restaurant/bar. She remembered me after only the first visit to her bar and even remembered what I drank. She was […] awesome!! My stay here was very pleasant. The staff although not overly "friendly" they were not rude at all. The room was very clean and comfortable. The location of the hotel was right on point, very close to a great Mall & other attractions. I am certain that I will stay there again.

Overall, the stay was pleasant; improvements would be the following: Update the lobby decor by changing out the dominant black with light colors, Update the televisions in all rooms to flat screens, Make sure the refrigerators are working, Make sure the ice maker is working on every floor.
