This hotel is aging and needs maintenance. The cleaners sometimes didn't come until late afternoon when we were ready to shower and get ready for supper. They did a poor job overall and considering we paid extra for turn down. I had to call for it twice. The didn't replace the coffee and didn't clean the coffee pot after use. Missing facecloths. Dirty […] mirror when we arrived and not cleaned for about 5 days after. Counters/Dresser/coffee table not wiped/sanitized. The only good show was the circus show. Waiter service (Benjamin) was awesome by the pool most days. Not much variety of food choice and got tiresome after 10 days. Surcharges on some of the food on menu at all three restaurants. Well kept garden and pool area. Lots of activities, shows and buffet and 3 restaurants all included inc. drinks Children's activities. Small beach with umbrella's but sea has undertow so not recommended to swim. Overall a great relaxing vacation.

I had a better experience last I've stayed at Melia. This time the food was not that great, the snack bar near the pool you had to wait half n hour after they opened till all the food was ready. Since our arrival, we had a towel problem in the bathroom. After requesting washcloths from the front desk, they were delivered. But, a request had to be made daily. All inclusive hotels make things very easy. We stayed here for two days before heading out to another location in Mexico. It was fine. The waitsaff was very nice. But unless you are a heavy drinker, it's not worth the price. The food was mediocre and generally very fattening. There are too many great restaurants nearby to justify what we paid.

Travelling with 2 young Children (3 and 1), this place provided the perfect place for a Christmas Vacation. Pool, beach and playground is fantastic for kids. Food choices are perfect for kids. the only Con is our children are used to eating lunch at 12pm and dinner at 5:30pm and options are limited until 1pm and 7pm respectively. My son and I were at the Melia for 6 nights overe Christmas. There were tons of families with kids ranging from babies to young adults. Lots of young people my son's age, but they stuck to their families so we didn't meet any people to hang out with, which was fine, but it's always nice to meet other travellers who are on their own. Our "garden view" […] room, #2301 overlooked the roof of the lobby bar so not much of the garden to see. We also heard all the noise and music from the theatre which usually went on until 11:00 pm or midnight. I would have preferred to be at the other end of the hall. like in room 2323. The hotel itself is spacious and Benjamin, our waiter at the beach was great. Food was pretty good too for an all-inclusive and the drinks were also quite good. If you want a lounge chair at the beach or pool you need to get down by 7:30 or 8:00 a.m. to put your towel down. Many guests will put their towels down and not show up for 3-4 hours. One large family had 15 chairs held for eir group and the older kids wouldn't show up untl noon. I think this is rather selfish, but seems to be a common practice. Mehr

The times I was looking for food was not abnormal...lunch at noon-1pm and dinner at 6-7pm. 2. Service Waiters in the buffet restaurant ignored 2 members of our party of 6. It was quite odd. No host/hostess were around to seat guests at the buffet restaurant for breakfast or lunch. At a private event dinner, the waiter for my table did not take food orders for half the table. After we informed him that we had been missed, the waiter randomly distributed entrees and desserts to the missed individuals. 3. Quality of food Dishes missed the mark and were often overcooked. I often left meals unsatisfied. 4. Rooms Room standards varied for those in the same class. We had a large group in our party. One room had an ipod docking station. Our family has been staying at the Melia every year for about 10 years. Overall we have always enjoyed our stay. The rooms are very spacious and the grounds are beautiful and well kept. Breakfast and lunch are meals with a wide choice of options. Although the hotel tries the dinners tend to be unexciting, so we will often opt to eat elsewhere for the […] evening meal. Over the years we have become close to many of the staff, so it was a disappointment to find that this year many of the people are gone. There have been some long term problems with the elevators, air conditioning and hot water supply which the hotel addresses, but the problems tend to return in a couple of days. We spent 2 weeks at the Melia in October. This was our 3rd visit to the Melia in the last 4 years. There was a much larger group this time. We had 3 rooms. The "M" Family Suite (awesome for a family of 5) an "M" regular suite (only problem is the beds are doubles in this one.....Not big enough they need to increase to Queen) and the third room was a […] Junior suite (Fabulous room wow). Now let me say this. The management went ABOVE AND BEYOND for our group. We got to know some of the staff quite well in the time we were there. They treated us like family (royal family) Simon and Arturo in Quetzel and LaPalapa were outstanding. Jonathan in Vitrales went so far as to send someone out to a liquor store and get us some Frangelico (just because we asked nice) Amazing service. Patricia in the Executive Office will forever be a friend to all of us. She was a Rock Star. What a great team. What a fantastic holiday. We celebrated our Daughters 18th Birthday while there and the Hotel brought her a cake first thing int he morning to get the festivities started. She had the most memorable day ever. This is the 5th time we have stayed at the Melia, Puerto Vallarta-----this month seems to be the 'slow' season for them----which means the buffet had less food options, some resturants we only open certain nights. Slow season or not, the price of the hotel booked was the same! Room was warmer than usual and by the next to last day, the A/C unit was […] broken! The hotel gladly gave us another room for the last night there but the A/C unit was only slightly better! Upon check out, the front desk person tells us "yes, we have been having problems"! No kidding! The Melia continues to charge for internet access even if you have your own computer! Wi-fi these days is a must for most travelers. We like to stay close to the marina since we fish on every trip.........but we may need to explore more options. Be sure to get an 'ocean view' room if you booked that & paid for that-----they have tried twice now to give us a garden view room! My husband, 5-month old, mother-in-law, and I went to Melia during the first week of August. It was a wonderful experience. I was worried about traveling with a baby, but it went very smoothly. There were many other families with young children and babies. During this time, there were few other foreign tourists - almost everyone there was from Mexico […] - which is different from what I've experienced at other resorts. But everyone - the staff and other guests - seemed polite and friendly. We felt welcomed and relaxed. My husband got scraped up by some rocks at the beach, and the on-site doctor helped him ASAP. A staff member sent for some cream and a bandage for no extra charge. There's a lot of activities for families with all ages of children. If you want to have a relaxed trip or a really busy trip, this is the resort for you. We hung around the pool, but also tried kayaking, a city tour, and I even went parasailing for the first time! The beach is alright - a little rocky! There are peddlers selling their things, but they don't hassle you if you say no. The drinks were great, the food was pretty good (a little repetitive, though, if you're there more than 3 days). Meal times are pretty good - most of the locals eat much later than Americans, so we never had to stand in line. Spanish is the main language, but all the staff we encountered spoke English very well. The resort is just 5 minutes from the airport. Go to Melia Puerto Vallarta - you'll love it! Mehr

Stayed at the Melia for my honeymoon and it was great! Only little problem was that the first ocean view room we got on the bottom floor had a very strong mildew smell. We got moved to the 7th floor and the view was awesome. Many kids and families but we have a kid of our own so the little ones were no problem for us. It's an old hotel that really needs to be renovated. It was nice but it did have some things that I would change. I think that the pool is really old and they should have more than just one big pool for everyone. I would also majorly change the food hat is served at this resort. The food was very disappointing, same thing day after day. the room was clean but the hotel is old and needs updates. It's an all inclusive resort but the drinks at all the bars are water down or use very cheap liquor. We just came back from a 1 week long vacation and will never stay here or in puerto Vallarta.

I had a great time and a lovely experience at Melia. Everything was just as it was presented on the photos. The staff was more than just friendly. I would have to describe the people as genuine. The beds were comfortable and the rooms were kept clean and stocked with everything from refreshments in the mini fridge down to the toiletries. I have to say that the staff was more than accomodating to our requests for either softer drinks or stronger drinks. The fine dining was also great. I did not go for family activities however, the site was family friendly and definately had activities for all ages. I would love to stay there again. We stayed here last year and were very happy and is why we returned. There has been no maintenance or general upkeep of the property. The variety and quality of the food was sub standard. The restaurants with reservations was especially disappointing because it was so good last year. The pool really needs to be maintained.

We go to Mexico every year for spring break and this is the 4th time we've been to Puerto Vallarta and the 1st time at the Melia. It was an outstanding resort for families (our children = 10 & 8)! We were fortunate enough to be upgraded to an ocean front room (#1132) which was wonderful! The resort grounds were just beautiful. In the evening, there […] was nightly entertainment that was excellent and varied - the kids really enjoyed it. We're not food snobs, so enjoyed the buffet at breakfast, lunch and dinner. The great thing about staying at the Marina area is that you're very close to downtown so only a $6 taxi ride. We only went into town once for dinner since we had an all-inclusive vacation package. I'd highly recommend going on a zip line or atv tour - lots of fun. Each day, the resort offers a fun water aerobics class and then offers various games poolside. We'll be back!! Mehr

My husband and I came for a week for our anniversary. The hotel was beautiful and the staff was very friendly! We met people staying there for business, families, and couples. The lobby staff were not very helpful. Did not give us towel cards. Did not advise us the we could pick up bottles of water in the lobby at any time. Told us our room number but did not give us instructions as to how to find our room. We had checked in at 2:30pm but had to line up again for another 30 minutes at 3:00pm to obtain our room keys. We had […] paid extra for an ocean view but instead got a side view of the hotel, not the ocean view we were expecting that we had paid extra for. Our bathroom had water leaking from the floor above. Maids did not supply towels on one day and they were delivered rather late when requested. The room was usually not cleaned until late in the afternoons. Buffets had a lot of "stew" dishes. Coffee served was usually warm and not hot. There was an extra charge for coffee in the rooms, it was supposed to be an "all inclusive" hotel. When I tried to make reservations for the Mexican Restaurant one night, the captain in charge said I had to buy a bottle of wine before he could confirm as to whether or not I could make reservations. There was not too much to do at night for adults on vacation without any young children. There was too much emphasis on buying time shares and/or points. The housekeeping for our room was really disappointing. Half of the days there I had to call to get towels or washcloths delivered because they were not consistent with what they left for us when they came. They didn't come at all to clean the room one day and when I called to complain (after returning from being gone all day at 9:30) they asked if […] I wanted them to send someone then. Not possible with two kids that needed to go to bed. Sunday night and Tuesday night we ate dinner at the hotel buffet and both nights I was sick in the middle of the night. We ate in town the other evenings and I was fine. Breakfast and lunch were fine at the hotel. The children's staff was great with our kids. We could not walk through the lobby without someone asking us if we would sit through their time-share presentation and they had a hard time taking no for an answer, even as blunt as I was. They were always asking "Why not? Didn't I want free things? There's no obligation." I had to repeatedly tell them no everytime they asked, which was often. Really annoying as I went there not expecting to be harrassed by time share people. My kids were repeatedly coming back from the pool with tiles that were just laying around, broken at the bottom of the pool. It says all inclusive, but there are many things they charge you for extra, and good luck getting a "reservation" at the optional non-buffet restaurants. Need at least one day ahead notice. Mehr

To start with, no service on the beach. Food was poor, same food all the time, and was cold in the buffet. No air conditioning, a fan that ran. Beach was ok, but you could not walk very far. Service a the pool, was slow and could get my own drinks faster than the server. Oscar at the front desk was very helpful.

This resort was fine for our short stay. We were there for a wedding, so we only stayed 5 days. However, when we arrived, the hotel had put us in the wrong room (a room with two double beds instead of one king) and couldn't put us in the right room until the next day. The food was pretty hit or miss (the Italian restaurant was gross, the omelet bar was AMAZING). The pool was really nice and there were lots of activities. It's probably a better resort if you have kids. If we were to go back to Puerto Vallarta, we'd stay somewhere else.
