The Vermont Hotel - Newcastle upon Tyne

Very tired hotel rooms need updating . Would not go back

Stayed for one night only with the intention of visiting the nearby bars. I was pleased with the location and also the free parking just out front. Hotel just far enough away from the noise to get a good nights sleep. Although minor, on the negative side, I didn't like the weighty sheets/blankets as I'm more of a quilt person.

Nice hotel in city centre. Welcoming and helpful staff.

I have stayed at this hotel a couple of times now mainly because of the excellent location. I did go to a wedding at the Vermont a few years ago and it seems to have gone drastically down hill ever since. Positives - excellent servise from the door staff to reception personnel. Location. Lovely bar area. Negatives - Very dated rooms. None of the gym […] equpiment maintained or working. No buttons on the TV in the gym. Atmosphere. Price in relation to the qualtiy. Needs some TLC and money spend to update. Mehr

excellent location with good parking , rear lower entrance is very handy on an evening.finding main car park/entrance could be tricky.rooms clean and tidy but smaller than others on the quayside.if you can get a deal on the price worthwhile.

Hotel clean and comfortable. Cosy bar Staff helpful and friendly. Decor a bit dated. Enjoyable stay.

it's very well located indeed but a little bit tired.

smooth check in. Friendly staff. only complaint was room smelt a bit stale. Close to great nightlife. Would definatley stay there again.

A fine, old hotel in an excellent position in the centre of Newcastle. Good, polite service from the staff. The hotel is however, very old fashioned and belonging to a bye-gone age as far as decor and ambiance is concerned. The room I had, (not surprisingly considering the much-reduced price), was not particularly well placed, being a corner room at […] teh back of tehg hotel. One window looked out directly on to teh Castle Keep, which was nice, but the other looked onto the main East Coast railway line which was about 10 feet from the window and Mewcastl Central station being only a couple of hundred yards up the track. The room was reasonably well sound insulated, but even the best sound insulation couldn't stop the runble of teh trains. The furniture was very old fashioned with dark varnished wood, and the decor in the room itself equally old fashioned and not very welcoming. The room however was very clean and tidy. Pay more and ask for a room at the front of the hotel. Mehr

Would be staying here again. a beautiful hotel . Got room with a view of the quayside. small hiccup with the toilet but that was sorted soonest complaint made.

Great location convenient for exploring the wonderful City of Newcastle with its glorious mix of Georgian and modern architecture.

Very friendly staff and excellent city centre location make this hotel perfect for a Newcastle visit. Free parking is a bonus. The hotel is near the railway line, but well sound proofed. Ask for a river view and high floor to get the best out of your stay.

Noisey at night from court yard from mathert's bar other than that no concerns

The location of the Vermont is perfect for anyone visiting the Quayside. Unfortunately the hotel needs a total re-fit as although it isn't shabby it hasn't kept up with the other city centre hotels and now looks and feels very old fashioned and void of any atmosphere. I was staying there on business and couldn't even get a drink in the bar at 5 O' Clock […] in the afternoon !! This hotel could easily return to it's former glories if it were to have a re-fit to bring it in line with the likes of Malmailson and others.... Mehr

If you like dark and dated floral design. This is the hotel for you. The photos in the advert are VERY flattering - NOT reflective of the experience. The staff were the only good part of my experience. If you do decide to book up regardless of my comments, I would advise you to pack some ear plugs or request a room away from the train line. Woke me […] very early in the morning. Not recommended. You've been warned.... Mehr

Great location.. Friendly professional staff... Comfortable..

This is a lovely hotel which makes you feel very welcome. The staff were polite and the hotel was very clean and warm, especially as it was snowing and very cold outside. Our room was very nice and it had everything we needed including a well stocked mini bar and tv and dvd player, (not that we needed it). The shower was fantastic, with 3 shower head […] settings i didn't want to get out. It was in a nice quiet location and even though the odd train went by you could hardly tell. The thermostat kept the room nice and cozy for when we got back and all night. I thought it was a little expensive for one night until i got there and i have to say that we got exactly what we paid for, a nice stay in Newcastle close to the town and a very comfortable room. This hotel will be at the top of my list if i ever go to Newcastle again. Mehr

an extremely pleasent stay with an excellent view from the room showing the iconic tyne bridge which on a night looked amazing. ideal location for city centre shops and all night life

Very disappointed with the room. It wasn't the luxurious room that was described on the website. The queen sized bed turned out to be a standard double and we never did manage to find the complimentary robes. The bedding was very uncomfortable - a quilt without a quilt cover- would have preferred proper bedding instead of 3 - yes 3! - telephones.

Overall the hotel is very pleasant and in an ideal position in Newcastle. We arrived at 6.30 p.m. and went down to dinner at 8 . 00 p.m. Restaurant was beautiful, waitress very pleasant, food was very good but no atmosphere as we were the only people in a very large room. Maybe if the hotel extended the special dinner to other nights of the week they […] might get more people using their restaurant. Mehr

As already described my experience on arrival was very poor. The concierge was no-where to be found and reception staff were sat in the office out of view. When I did attract their attention they told me to see the concierge regards parking and my luggage. He was no-where to be seen (I did tell them this but they didn't believe me). I had to go find […] the seperate car park myself and open the heavy metal gates before driving through. Two members of staff passed at this point, non volunteered to assist and in fact shouted "Are you staying at the hotel?" before clearing off. At this point I was not happy having driven for over 2 hours and being a single female on her own. The room was fantastic and the only thing I would fault would be the price of bottles of mineral water on the compliments tray and the lack of bathrobes. The vermont is not a cheap hotel and is of a high standard. I had plenty of room and even though it wasn't a suite room it had a desk PLUS dresing table and soft chair furnished to a high standard and very clean. When I did manage to get hold of the concierge later in my stay he was extremely friendly and helpful at all times. Seems when I arrived staff were busy with a large wedding reception but this is no excuse to neglect other guests. I would stay at the Vermont again but do expect more consistancy please. Mehr

Har sikkert vært et erverdig flott hotell tidligere. Nå er det mørkt, dystert, slitt og litt umoderne. Det skulle være kaffe/te osv på rommet, men det ble ikke fyldt opp når det ble tomt. Jeg var der en uke og det var tre teposer, 4 poser sukker og en kjeks når jeg kom. Badekåpen og safen som skulle være, var heller ikke der. Internett virket noen ganger. […] Minibaren/kjøleskapet hadde lys, men ingen kulde. Glass som ble brukt, ble kun skyldt på badet, ikke byttet ut. Personalet var vennligheten selv, og spurte man om noe, så ordnet de allt med et smil. Beliggenheten er topp i den historiske delen av Newcastle, rett ved Tyne. Masse spisesteder og ikke langt fra sentrum. Klokken på katedralen bak hotellet og toget kan være litt til sjenanse når man skal sove. Mehr
