Sommerset Suites Hotel - San Diego

I found the Somerset Suites Hotel to be a very clean hotel and the staff was most helpful. The hotel offered a Breakfast Room which offered a good selection of breakfast foods. I would stay there again.

Clean, friendly service for a great price.

We stayed 3 nights in this hotel. 3 people for a separate room and a sofa bed. Hotel clean, kitchen individual convenient to cook a quick meal the evening, well equipped as it miss some crokery. The Hotel was close to the zoo, which is where we were taking are kids. But the hotel it's self was just ok. We got a call at 10:00pm stating that are kids were making tomuch noise walking around the room. The second night we were told that they were making to much noise in the pool. The pool closes at 9:00pm and it was 8:30pm. The breakfast was good […] and the staff in the breakfast room was nice. There are not to many places to eat that are close by to take kids. The hotel could use some updates. For a family of 5 it worked, but I would probably look to another hotel next time. Mehr

We needed a place for a weekend trip to the San Diego Zoo, this was nearby. We needed a place that could fit the whole family: 2 adults, 2 teenages, 2 small children and 2 small dogs. This place worked out great.

While not a five star luxury hotel, this hotel is clean, comfortable and conveniently located to shops/bars in Hillcrest. The staff is particularly friendly and they have a real nice breakfast buffet. The lady working the buffet is passionate about keeping it stocked :-)

We had just come from a gorgeous suite at "The Hotel" in Vegas. I told the front desk people that I loved the experience at Sommerset Suites & I preferred the quaint atmosphere(aroma of cookies baking) helpful breakfast staff,etc. When we arrived my husband noticed the fridge was very noisy-he called the front desk & moments later a gent arrived with […] a new fridge-remarkable staff! We where visiting the USA to go and see The Holiday Bowl in San Deigo so when looking for an hotel we started to look for accomadation near the venue. The Sommerset Suites came up and after reading some of the reviews we new this was the one for us. The Sommerset Suites is a must if you are visiting San Diego. The Complimentry breakfast was a bonus and there was alway's plenty to choose from. We've been in the habit of staying at places in Hotel Circle for years - convenient, accessible, reasonable. But our latest trip to San Diego included my brother and his wheelchair and our usual places couldn't accommodate us. So we expanded our search and found the best place in San Diego! Hate to share the secret because we want it available for us […] when we go back. But it really is the best in EVERY way, especially the people who work there! The hotel itself was great, the handicap-accessible room was great, and it was fun to be in a neighborhood that was still convenient to everything we wanted to see and do. Highly recommend it! Mehr

Large comfortable room in a clean, well run Hotel in centrally located Hillcrest area of San Diego. The continental complementary breakfast has slipped some in quality since I last stayed there but I would still give it a good rating. Parking is a problem - parking spaces are small and hard to find at peak hours. My credit card was overcharged for the […] parking permit I paid for to cover the two days I was registered there. My effort to have that corrected is an inconvenience I would prefer not to have. The manager must be contacted to make the correction. Selected this hotel for location in Hillcrest area of San Diego. Hotel was clean and pleasant. room was nicely appointed and kitchen facilities were well stocked. We stayed in one of their suites with 3 kids and everything was excellent. Staff are very friendly and helpful, continental breakfast was excellent and the room was perfect for our needs at a very reasonable price. Close to the airport and zoo with easy highway access. We'll be staying here again the next time we visit San Diego.

The hotel was in a good location---close to all attractions, however very very noisy from hospital traffic (sirens). There was a lot noise from surrounding rooms---very thin walls. Hard to try to get a baby to go to sleep with all of the noise---but nice to have a frig & microwave for those with children.

My friends and I came to watch a Chargers game. check in was easy and quick. The hotel was lea, nice and quiet. Perfect stay ever

The hotel was nice but I ordered the hangover 2 and had to pay 16.99 for it. Wtf!!

The hotel is right smack dab middle of the very cool Hillcrest area & has all the comforts of home with very friendly staff. No complaints & I have made this my home-away-from home while visiting San Diego.

The room was very clean, and comfortable. The hotel personnel were very friendly and always helpful. The continental breakfast served everything from fruit to pancakes! Also a barbeque on Fridays! We will definitely go back!

Bad news out of the way first...street noise really annoying even though we were on the 3rd floor, bathtub and shower very small for an otherwise good-sized suite, and very few dishes/pots&pans/utensils in the kitchen. Good news...fine free breakfast, roomy and pleasant suite, helpful staff. Seems very kid-friendly, too. Close to several medical facilities […] and easy to get buses to downtown. Mehr

The walls are like paper.... We can hear every steps of the upstairs guest, really annoying. Other than that, the guest room are really spacious and comfortable. The bed is a bit too soft though. Very glad to have found this hotel. Young male guest clerk upon check-in at about 7pm, was exeptional! Very nice! Girls in breakfast room were very nice too. Others at desk, not so much!

We were in town for just 2 nights and chose the Sommerset Suites for its proximity to our daughter's home to avoid wasting a lot of time commuting back and forth. However, we probably won't stay there again for several reasons: 1) The furnishings in the room were somewhat shabby - torn upholstery, holey sheets, thin towels. 2) Tiny parking spaces in […] garage made parking even a compact car very challenging. 3) Ambulance sirens from nearby hospitals. 4) toilet wouldn't flush properly and we had to call the maintenance staff 2 times. 5) WiFi signal too weak; internet connection almost useless The staff was friendly and efficient, the price is low, and the breakfast room had a decent assortment of continental breakfast foods, but this is definitely a case of "you get what you pay for". Conveniently located, near Balboa Park, downtown, freeways and the airport; many restaurants within walking distance. Parking was only $6 a day and you get two complimentary bottles of water. Staff were friendly. The rooms could use some renovation but it was clean so I can't really complain.

We just stayed 1 night in-between our visit to SeaWorld & the SD Zoo. Perfect place for families. Loved the 1 bedroom suite, the cleanliness of the room & the friendly front desk. I believe the carpet was recently replaced because our room had a very strong "new carpet" smell. I opened the slider & aired out the room a bit. New carpet smell is better […] than lots of other smells, but it was still pretty strong. Only cons were they didn't have room service & the less-than-fabulous breakfast. We checked in late after a full day at SeaWorld, so I would have loved a in-hotel restaurant or a in-hotel store where I could have bought a box of mac n cheese or a frozen pizza to pop in the oven. Had to use a local pizza delivery service that was decent, but slow delivery. Also, the free breakfast (which had gotten rave reviews) was a little under-whelming. I was expecting a pretty great breakfast but they had pre-packaged danish, hard boiled eggs, 3 types of boring cereal, a very slow waffle maker, & a few yogurts. We've been to several family hotels where the free continental breakfast was far less, but several others that were far better. My kids were asking for fresh pancakes & scrambled eggs like we got at our last hotel. With the great reviews the breakfast got, I was expecting something awesome. It was fine...but no big deal. We'd stay there again for sure, but I'd pack a few groceries so we'd be able to throw a quick meal together in the kitchen. Oh, and I would have packed our bathing suits because the hot tub was happening. We had a great view of the courtyard with the pool & hot tub & it looked like everybody was having a great time! We attended the Society for Neuroscience meeting. Your hotel was recommended by an agency we found on the internet. We were happy to stay there since it allowed us to see a part of San Diego with which we were not familiar. The convention center is a good 1 hr walk away. This we like since San Diego is a pleasant city for a walk. We liked the kitchen […] facility of the hotel since it allowed us to eat healthy food bought from the nearby food stores. I can not wait to go back, this place was awesome! Clean, convenient, walking distance to food & entertainment. Loved it, Loved it! Can't wait to have to go back to San Diego!!

Stayed here for Comic Con with my boyfriend and one of his buddies. I chose it because it was a suite, so we had the bedroom and his friend stayed in the living room on a the foldout couch. It has a full kitchen in the room and there is continental breakfast in the morning including waffles. It was just a $15 cab fare down to the convention center, […] or a $2.25 bus fare on Fridays and Saturdays. The bus stop was only a couple blocks away. The neighborhood is really nice. Trendy stores, great restaurants; a really good place to walk around. Being next to the hospital was not a problem and there was no noise, even with our room being near the pool. I would definitely recommend it and will probably stay here again next year. Mehr

The hotel is really good. The breakfast was excellent. To the people that don't have car, the location is very conveniently close to bus stop and very easy to take a taxi. All the atractions are located fairly close. The room was quiet and had a big size. The only inconvenient is that the reception is located on the 1st floor.

Located in the popular Hillcrest neighborhood. Lots of great restaurants, bars, and shops; close to RiteAid and Whole Foods. Easy access to Balboa Park -- you can walk if you're ambitious. Easy freeway & airport access. Staff was always friendly and helpful. Housekeeping even washed and put away the few dishes I had rinsed off and left in the kitchen […] sink! Only complaint was the room had strong cleaning smell on arrival -- but it dissipated quickly when I propped the door open to get a good cross-breeze. Mehr

I have to admit that I was prepared for this hotel to not be what I was looking for. However, while it is an older place, it has been kept up fairly well. The only complaint that I have with the actual room is that they need to bring in modern air conditioning units with fans. The rooms are a bit stuffy. The pool was a little disappointing - only 3 […] ft deep. Not what the teens traveling with us were looking forward to! The best part of this hotel is it's proximity to almost everything. We were able to get to any part of San Diego we wanted to go to within 15 minutes max. It is practically right around the corner from the zoo. Having the kitchen was an added bonus. We didn't really cook while we were there, but we were able to stock up on things like snacks and water and had somewhere convenient to store them all. Mehr

The staff was there for us at every turn and each one had such a great attitude! Lots of smiles and willing to do whatever they could to help us. The area is surrounded by medical facilities so it is a bit noisy but the hotel itself is cozy and peaceful. Great places to eat nearby and three grocery stores within walking distance.
