Wir möchten immer ein Zimmer zum Hof haben und nicht eines im angrenzenden Hotelgebäude. Ich habe deshalb schon die teurere Zimmerkategorie gebucht mit 2 Betten. Aber wie letztes Mal 10 Dollar Upgrade gezahlt. Aber dafür super freundlicher Service. Super Preis Leistungsverhälltnis für San Francisco und tolle lage zu Fuß 5-10Minuten zur Fisherman-Warf. Auch parken für 12 Dollar in San Francisco ,es sind es in den meisten anderen Hotels 25-50 Dollar.Jederzeit wieder.

Das Hotel liegt in der Geary St. ein paar Blocks vom Union Square. Wir hatten ein Zimmer im zweiten Stockwerk im Mittelgang, was den großen Vorteil hat, dass man den Straßenlärm nicht mitbekommt, sondern nur den gelegentlichen Lärm den andere Gäste verursachen. Die Zimmer haben nur ein kleines Fenster mit einem wenig schönen Ausblick auf den Innenhof. Das Continental Breakfast besteht aus Kaffee, Toast m. Butter u. Marmelade, O- bzw. Apfelsaft u. einem Stück Obst. Problematisch ist die Parkplatzsituation, da gleich vor der Haustür eine Bushaltestelle ist und ansonsten i.d.R. nur Parkplätze für Kurzparker vorhanden sind. Das Hotel bietet für 30 $ p. Tag einen Valetparkservice an, d.h. es kommt jemand u. parkt das Auto irgendwo, was sehr gut funktioniert hat. Das Hotel liegt zwar in der Nähe des Unionsquare aber auch sehr dicht am Tenderloin Bezirk, den man vor allem Nachts meiden sollte. Insgesamt kann ich das Hotel vom Preis - Leistungsverhältnis weiter empfehlen!

Hotel und Zimmer absolut OK, Personal sehr zuvorkommend. Teile der Designausstattung wirken etwas in die Jahre gekommen aber alles technisch OK und sauber. Lage zum Zentrum (untere Marketstreet) gerade noch zu Fuß zu bewältigen (ca. 2km)

Howard Johnson Express San Mateo-SFO South liegt in Flughafennähe und befindet sich mitten in San Mateo, in der Nähe von: San Mateo County Event Center, Hillsdale Shopping Center und Mariners Point Golf Center.
Ausstattung
Ein kostenloser Highspeed-Internetzugang (W-LAN und Kabel) steht in den öffentlichen Bereichen zur Verfügung. Room was clean and the TV was excellent. Our room was close to the road and you could hear the traffic going by. We also had a noisy neighbor. The remodeled bathroom did not have a soap holder and the vent did not work. The office/ breakfast room is very tiny and cramped with only 4 tables. We used this location to be close to SFO.
"moldy and bad service"
When I checked in, the staff told me that the next day some cable guy was going to come through my room between 10 and 5 to do some work. They refused to schedule around occupancy even though I was paying for the room! The motel room door itself was moldy as was the bathroom window. Everything was stripped down. Don't expect much. Motel is clearly made over from some previously run-down condition, but its exterior is very nice. The room on the inside was apparently refurbished--and very clean--but had some odd repairs like badly patched holes in the bathroom door. Outside noise from other guests was quite […] audible at night, and as this is a budget motel you can imagine that some of your neighbors might be less polite about nighttime noise than you might prefer. Parking was free, which is nice for the Bay Area, but again leads to other issues with the adjacent guests likely to stay here. The free breakfast was of the "you get what you pay for" variety, with a few bland cereal choices, oatmeal packets, cellophane pastries, bread and bagels. "Not too bad Hotel"
Pros: breakfast, price, parking, wi-fi, and comfort. Cons: Shower - water not that much. Overall - not that bad
The room was totally upgraded and nice inside with a new flat screen TV, however it's basically an old renovated motor hotel. I did get what I paid for but was looking for something very inexpensive.

Very good value for the price, friendly helpful staff. Room was a little tired, had a faulty dead bolt, was missing an armchair and had a minor ant invasion, but was clean and functional. Given the convenient location (Hwy 92 and 101) I would stay there again.
"Cheap is cheap!"
This place would be ok for just a few days to deal with. The top blanket looked dirty so I threw that to the ground. On the 2nd day the toilet was plugged up so I called front desk. Was told it would be taken care of. We got back late and nothing was done. Called front desk and the person acted like what was he supposed to do. I then said,"So what are […] we going to do if we need to use the toilet? It needs to be fixed now. I was told it would be done 12hrs ago." He guy brings in a plunger and without it being cleaned or wrapped up he just carries it across the room dripping. Glad I brought slippers, but when I got home the bottom of them were black. This place is not as the picture shows. Poorly & cheaply refurbished. This is a 2 thumbs down!! Wouldn't stay here again. Rather be by the airport... Plus continental breakfast is a joke! Mehr
"Just what we needed"
While this is an older motel, they have done the modern updates with laminate flooring, LCD Tvs etc...only thing the room was on the small side and we had a king bed, so get a queen if you need more actual room. Staff was very helpful.

"Clean, Quiet, Convenient to S.M. Event Center"
I come to San Mateo for 5 business trips per year and always stay here for the past few years. The staff is very friendly and accomodating.
"Nice Staff / Comfort Stay / Low Price"
The hotel was easy to locate with a big INN sign, and this was a nice start. The lady at the counter offered free bottle of ice cold water without charges, and kindly answered my questions about the surrounding area. The room was cozy with the feel of IKEA. Then, after a closer inspection, the bathroom was not exactly spotless clean, and the bathroom […] door seemed to be repaired by a non-professional handy man. This may have bothered my wife a bit, but it was totally okay by me. The free wifi internet was very fast. Free breakfast (available till 10AM) was okay. They had a desktop PC without any restrictions and a laser printer for guests to use. I happened to need to print something and it was able to do it with a usb stick. I booked this hotel for my dad/sis for their visit here. It's actually right next to a pool hall that I have been to. My sister sounds upset when we pulled in cuz it looks like a dump and asked me if I came to check it out before booking it. I like the location cuz it's right next to 92 and get on 101 in no time. Walkable distance to a strip mall with japanese supermarket and some burrito places. Pretty safe neighborhood as far as I know in the day time. I won't recommend it if you want to go to SF daily to visit (no traffic 30mins, traffic no idea!) i heard breakfast was very simple just bagels coffee. "Front desk gave someone else the same room key"
Overall the Hotel was good for the price and the location was close to Half Moon Bay but the woman at the front desk, who did mention it was her first day, gave another couple the key to our room. The staff was super helpful, the recent remodel decent, the location outstanding (near busline, short walk to train, San Mateo Convention Center or downtown San Mateo). "Not bad for the price"
They had great cable! Everything was good except the shower was hard to turn on. The breakfast was alright. If you have a big truck it can be hard to park when the lot fills up.

"Lived up to my expectations"
The hotel is an 'express' hotel which means you get a room with limited services and extraneous amenities. That being said, the room was clean and there was no bad surprises. The TV has a basic cable package any my room had a flatscreen TV with fridge and microwave. When I travel I am happy when there is adequate pressure in the shower and if the toilet flushes so I can happily say that this Hojo exceeded my expectations and is a good choice for a business traveler on a budget. We liked the motel. Good service except my messages were deleted by staff ( not sure if accident or not). they were re4coverd by cell phone. Room clean,bed comfy, all ammenities,frige, microwave, coffee maker. Will bring food next time as rm service very expensive. Nice little breakfast offered guests. Use of computer in lobby very nice as we needed […] printer for mapquest directions. Staff very accomodating and good hospitality. We enjoyed our stay there and will return. Very reasonable pricing as well, which was welcomed. location was good also as we had and engagement near by and it was very convenient to the event and the mall afterwards and access to the freeway for further travel. "cheap spartan room smelled like smoke"
updated room....lipstick on a pig....still smells...even though it's purportedly a "non smoking" hotel, my room reeked...if not for having already been given a room that look like it was never made up, I would have moved. "Cheap and Clean"
Not the Ritz, but it works.
The bed was exceptionally hard and caused my hips to hurt. Thus, I slept very little. The light from the parking lot was a though the light in my room was on. The blinds did not block the light.

The first time everything was satisfactory and slightly above. Look, it's a HoJo and it works for short business trips. My first stay was in a King room. The room was clean and comfortable and was perfect for my purposes. The second time I opted for the Queen room to save a few bucks. Did someone just call me cheap?!? "hojo San Mateo"
Very convenient and an easy point from which to access the city. $30 cab from SFO and near Caltrain.
"Economical Stay"
I stayed for 4 nights and had no problems with the hotel. The bed was clean, the air conditioner worked, and the TV remote actually worked. The bathroom was clean. Overall the room was utilitarian. I didn't realize there was a refrigerator until the 2nd night. I also didn't have a soap bar the first night, but that was easily fixed. The wireless internet […] was free and worked nicely. "It was a typical Motel."
We had gone for a holiday weekend and the pool was closed. Very disappointing for our children and family. It was a good value for the money.
