The Tremont Chicago Hotel at Magnificent Mile - Chicago

I recently stayed at the Tremont Hotel, and was very disappointed. First of all, the staff was unfriendly when we checked in. Second the hotel only has one tiny elevator, which is extremely slow. Once we got to room, we walked into a wall of stench. the entire time the room smelled very musty and moldy. the paint and wallpaper was peeling off of the […] ceilings and walls. the bathroom was okay, but very, very small. Last but not least the walls were paper thin, slept very poorly, due to being able to hear every noise in the hallway and the extremely noisy elevator. Couldn't ask for a better location however, right off Michigan Ave, about 200 yards from the Water Tower. If you are looking for a very cheap hotel with good location, this is the spot for you. if you are interested in a comfortable, relaxing, clean hotel, I would recommend you look elsewhere. Mehr

I found that the hotel was in a great location to Michigan Ave. The hotel itself is old but comfortable and the price was very reasonable.

While it looks promising from the outside, what's to come is quite disappointing. It has the appearance of an older hotel with charm; but by the time we got to our room, this quickly faded. The furniture looks to be the original and was actually nailed shut in places and missing wooden panels. There were few amenities, such as no coffee maker in the […] room. And while this wouldn't be a complete tragedy; when we asked for coffee in the lobby the next morning (granted, Christmas morning), we were informed that "the kitchen is closed." The staff seem to do their best with what they have, but even their charm doesn't compensate for what this hotel lacks. Great location being just a block off of Michigan Avenue... but do some shopping & I'm sure you can find even more bang for your buck nearby! Mehr

We stay at the Tremont Hotel every year in December. In fact this year our room was 407 and that now is our favorite room. We love this hotel and all the staff is very helpful. It is very difficult to want to stay in in other hotel when we go to Chicago.

This hotel is situated extremely close to the Hancock Tower, Water Tower Place, and the Navy Pier. The hotel is very comfortable and the staff is immensely helpful with left luggage, maps of the surrounding area and everything else that could be required. The bed was very comfortable but the room was very smal but it did not matter since we hardly stayed there only to sleep.It was also walking distance to the JohnHancock Tower.

location was great; price was right; only complaint was temperature of shower water, varied during shower but never very hot.

This Hotel does not qualify for a 3 +. It is run down, wall paper peelling of walls, sinks did not work, magnetic door keys had to be replaced 4 times,elevator dirty, run down. Note: we stayed at the Omini, Wyhdam cheaper than staying at the Tremont! Very disappointed with Hotels.com reviewing this Hotel as a 3+ Hotel. Great location and priced right! Room was clean and service was good.

This is the second time we've stayed at the Tremont. The location is perfect, service is good, hotel is always clean. The only downside is that the rooms are small due to the age of the hotel. Overall it's a great place with lots of charm!

I love staying at this hotel. Great location, awesome staff. My wife and I come every year to Chicago to Christmas shop for our anniversary.

The hotel appears tired, its old and tired, the bests days are gone. Its not a bad hotel, just not that great.

Hated it.

This is an older hotel in an excellent location and is reasonably priced.

The Treemont Hotel was great in every way. We were so comfortable and welcomed. We would give it 6 stars if we could and hope to go back next year.

The hotel was a little older, but the room was clean and spacious and the bed very comfortable. Great heating and a good free wifi connection. It was a bit noisy due to construction and being situated next to the elevator but this was not a major issue. The location could not have been better - in a quite street just off the Magnificent Mile, one block […] from busses, about two blocks from the subway, Starbucks across the road and many other attractions within easy walking distance. Great location, very old and rundown rooms, creaky elevator, dark bathrooms, not the friendliest service (I didn't receive a wake-up call that I ordered the first day). My colleague said her bedsheets were threadbare, you could literally see through to the mattress. Would I stay here again? The valet services were horrible, not to mention their is no parking around the hotel. Your car will be valeted in a garage around the corner and a few blocks down. Which means it takes 10 minutes for your car to be retrieved. And the price for valet is $50 a day. The location is great but everything else should've been much better.

I am not sure why this hotel has received less than favorable reviews. The hotel is an old building so knowing that I'm not sure why people are suprised by the room size or the elevator. Our room was very nice, you can tell it's high quality. I've stayed at 4 star hotels that were not as nice at this. The bed was comfortable, the staff was very accomodating. […] There isn't a coffeemaker in the room but there is a Starbucks right across the street. I stayed at this hotel a few years ago and was glad to find it again at such a great price! Free internet and a great location, just steps away from Mag Mile and Water Tower Place! Was unimpressed by the front desk service - only one person handling phone and guest services made for a long checkin wait time. Also only one elevator. Very boutique feel […] but would recommend because of the price and proximity to some fun places in Chicago! Mehr

what a location,wow, superb. i hope they don't change a thing at the hotel. it reminds me of the small friendly cozy places i love in europe but so hard to find in america. the staff could not have been friendlier or more courtious. can't wait to go back. and please, again, don't change a thing.and thanks for the great chicago weather.

This hotel was in a great location - within walking distance of great restaurants, shops, the waterfront. While perhaps not as well-appointed as some other hotels (no coffee-maker in the room), it had a lovely European feel. The room was quiet and the bed was comfortable. Maria and Mike were the best staff in the world. I would hire them in a heartbeat. We loved our stay with a convenient Starbucks across the street.

Excellently situated hotel stuck inthe 'thirties'. Clean, dark, sad decor with minimal decoration and zero 'accessories' made for a dull stay; BUT, on the plus side, our room was delightfully quiet and had a good view of building work at adjacent church and Michigan Avenue/Hancock Tower. We enjoyed our stay due to the Starbucks immediately opposite […] and the superb surroundings near Gold Coast and Lakeshore Drive. Just don't expect modern American! Mehr

They met me at the door but did not carry my bags. The concierge gave me the wrong key the first time and I ended up opening the door on another guest. They transferred me to the 3rd floor, which turned out to be a good thing because the single elevator was very slow and it was quicker to take the stairs. We had a wonderful stay in an older but still nice downown hotel at below market pricing. Only problem we had was that ESPN and ESPN2 was out all of the time and they couldn't get it on so I could watch the game. Near everything, overall a good value.

The Tremont is an ideal location to visit Chicago .

The Tremont Hotel was a real find. Being in the 'Magnificent Mile' area of Chicago, we thought it would cost a lot more but the price was almost half the charges of other hotels in the same area. The staff was friendly and very helpful. We will definately stay there again next year. Jane

15 or so floors, one elevator (or you can use the service one if you feel dangerous). Air conditioners that go out multiple times a night. When we arrived the smoke detector in our room was beeping ever few seconds thankfully they quickly came to replace the batteries. Taking a shower in the room was less than pleasant as the drain was extremely slow […] and you ended up standing in ankle deep water. This is an old hotel but the staff was very friendly and really tried to make our stay comfortable. Room was clean, walls are kind of thin. We had to go downstairs for ice as there was no machine on the floor(s). There was no computer available to print a boarding pass, nor was there a coffee pot in the room. Absolutely the best front desk/staff imaginable. These are quintessential Chicagoans: cool, deliberate,friendly and polite; they are professionals. The room was spartan but clean and the bed was comfortable with plenty of pillows but the AC was way noisy. Tv was high-def with few channels: odd. Also, absolutely prime location. Inexpensive rate.

Great location with the Mike Dika Restaurant on location. Close to Michigan Avenue and Oak Street beach. Bed was very comfortable and the front dest was very helpful.
