O’Callaghan Davenport Hotel - Dublin

Sehr schönes Hotel, mit guten Service und akzeptabelen Preisen. Frühstück, Lunch und Abendessen zu normalen Preisen, nicht höher als in der Stadt, was auch für de Bar gilt, aber wer geht in Dublin schon in die Hotelbar?? Das Hotel ist zentral gelegen, alle wichtigen Punkte kann man sehr gut zu Fuss erreichen. Unser Zimmer war sehr geräumig, ordentlich und ruhig. Das Personal sehr nett und hilfsbereit. Man fühlte sich hier direkt wie zu Hause. Das Hotel ist zu empfehlen und ich habe schon meinen nächsten Aufenthalt dort gebucht.

Hotel vey good. Great location. Disappointed with hotels. com as payment initially made to them was not on the hotels computer when I went to check out after a 5 day stay. I was obliged to pay for my stay twice and while I was subsequently reimbursed it took furthert phone calls & was definitelly an unexpected inconvenience

O'Callaghan Davenport - Dublin, 25 minutes from aiport. Staff was extremely helpful. Location within a 5 minute walk to Grafton St. shopping, Book of Kell's and many museums. Family research locations are within a bus trip or walking distance. Taxi and hop-on hop-off buses just feet from the hotel for ease in getting about the city. Hotel has a full […] Irish breakfast which was good but got boring after a while it would have been good to have other options available. We did not eat dinner at the hotel so I am unable to rate. The room was a bit too warm, easily remedied by opening a window and would not be considered a detraction. Mehr

The hotel is not luxurious but ranks as very good value, particularly for the location and its overal ambience. My room was small but was fine for the time I spent there. If you plan to spend a long time in your room, try for a bigger room. Also, lack of TV channels (such as CNN,Fox,ESPN, Sky etc.) could be a negative for some. I had breakfast buffet […] one day and wished I had done it all days. Very good choice of things to eat, including the usual full Irish. bar is very good and can be quite lively. OK, paying for access is always a tolerable disappointment, but having restricted up/download quotas is ridiculous. Especially if you only get 1MB dl even if you pay for 24 hours of access. You can get unlimited access, you then pay €15 for 48 hours. It does not stop there: You'll only able to use one device at one time. So if you and your spouse […] have a Smartphone and a PC each you have to work both you and the devices in shifts ... For safe measure the connection is taken down if you take a small break. It does not seem that it's checked wether the machine is busy downloading for instance. Ironic part: Go to a pub and it's not unlikely that you'll find free, fast and stable WiFi access. Mehr

Beautiful city centre hotel. Very convenient location, could walk to temple bar, graften street, o'connell street and grand canal theatre all within 10 mins. Hotel was very comfortable and extremely clean. Hotel staff very friendly and helpful.

I asked for a quiet room, i was given one right by the main exit, where the door squeaked all night, i hardly had any day light. The shower tap constantly fell off, you could not turn on either of the taps in the bathroom, without them whizzing round, the bath constantly "guggled" all night and the smell of bad drains in the morning was putrid!

Overall a good hotel with good room cleaning. There is a weakness in the current room’s maintenance. The phone was removed from the bathroom. On the wall hangs a bunch of wires. So I have missed important calls. Some tiles in the bathroom are broken. It makes sense of abandonment.

The Hotel was in a great position, there are some very good restaurants close by, extremely comfortable rooms goood beakfast and the staff were very friendly and helpful. I would recommend the Hotel to anyone visiting Dublin.

Many of the services advertised, we were told upon arrival, are no longer offered. When asking for directions, we were misguided over and over. Also, this is not the neighborhood to be lost in, TERRIBLE LOCATION. In fact, we were forced to come back before dark each night, to avoid walking around unsafely. Additionally, at one point, we returned to […] another hotel that we had stayed at previously in Dublin for assistance, because we were so unhappy with the way the staff treated its guests. I would not stay in this neighborhood again, I would not stay at this hotel again. It was a waste of my money. Mehr

Our stay in this hotel was great. The staff were very friendly and very helpfull, the rooms was very comfortable. If we came to Dublin again we would stay at this hotel.

I never could get the temperature in the room warmer; and it was rather cool. I had a two room suite, and the sitting room was fine in regards to the temperature, but the bedroom was too cool. In all fairness, I didn't contact the hotel about the temperature as I was only there two nights, and was out and about most of the time. Booked this hotel as reasonably central, and also had a gym. Was booked in as I was running the Great Ireland run. The gym was more a concerted bedroom - couple of treadmills, couple of bikes, free weights etc...given the price of the room fine for me. Hote and room were fine especially for the price. The big plus was that they let me use a shower […] after my run on the Sunday before leaving to get a plane, even though this was the afternoon and I had checked out. So for a cost-effective, friendly, comfortable hotel in Central London its good for me! Mehr

I stayed here one night and would probably stay again if there weren't more interesting options. The first room I was first given smelled of cigarette smoke, but after complaining I was quickly switched to another room that smelled fresh. Facilities were adequate, though the ironing board stand was broken. In all, nice enough place, but a bit worn down. […] I think there are probably better places to stay in Dublin for the price. Really nice old world hotel with a touch of class in every corner. The staff was very helpful and friendly and went way out of their way to help us in any way possible. Except for a couple of idiots that would honk their horns at 3 AM at the Gingerman bar across the street, it was pretty quiet too. The fish and chips across the street at the Gingerman […] were out of this world. I would go back just to have this again, but the lasagna pretty much sucked. We had a really nice stay at this hotel and this would be our #1 choice to future visits. Mehr

Excellent location, convenient Air Coach stop around corner. Friendly staff. Clean, Large room with all the basic amenities. Would definitely stay again. Great Bargain.

A spacious room in an excellent hotel. We could walk to most of the places we wished to visit. The staff were polite and friendly and the room was very quiet. We didn't have breakfast, but others told us it was good. We used the bar in the late evening and found it comfortable and reasonably priced for Dublin. I would definitely use this hotel again […] as it helped make our stay in Dublin very enjoyable. Mehr

The hotel is a beautiful, well maintained building in a very select and convenient part of the city. The staff were extremely polite and very efficient, so no complaints on that score. However, the one down side was that the room that my partner and I were originally given (on the 5th floor) was plagued by continual noise from the nearby boiler room. […] So, we asked to be moved and were given a room on the first floor which was quieter but still suffered from an external noise coming from an electrical generator/sub station on the back of the hotel. Great hotel. Lots of room. We stayed in another hotel for 3 nights in another area and were pleasantly surprised with the Davenport. We had lots of room and loved the area. Close to Merrion Park and nice neighborhood. Walking distance to shopping and museums. Staff was very nice and helpful with bus line tips. It was a great experience in Dublin.

Just a suggestion...plug sockets near the beds would be desirable

Before we arrived at this hotel we decided to give them a call about parking as this was not specified clearly in hotel details. The person we spoke to on reception said that they had parking available. On arrival we discovered that there was parking but it was quiet a bit away from the hotel, and would not suggest using this form of parking as it was […] one which you drive into a lift and it takes you to a floor. Not recommeded for people who are claustraphobic, which my sister is and it was a very distressing experience. We found the reception staff very unhelpful and condescending to us and spoke to us as if we had just arrived from another plant, when in fact we speak English as our first language and infact are from Ireland. We feel that the Irish welcome was not reflected in the way we were spoken to. We were housed in a room right next to an air vent which kept us awake all night and were not told about this when we booked in. Overall experience was not good and would not recommend as a relaxing way to spend a weekend. Mehr

I enjoyed staying at the Davenport with my husband and young daughter (2). My only complaint is that it is a little farther than I would have liked from the main pedestrian zone, which would have been fine for most people, but was a little more challenging with a toddler. The room was comfortable and quiet and especially enjoyable after being on the […] road for over six weeks. They charge for wi-fi or an internet hook-up, but it's reasonable. Mehr

Although Hotels.com are very good, it is a shame they were let down badly by the O'Callaghan Hotels, Dublin. We will not be booking again!

Do NOT book with this hotel group - the staff are so rude and unhelpful. The Hotel is Old and dated, nothing seems to work properly. Do yourself a favor and spend a little extra on another Hotel to enjoy your stay in Dublin Ireland.

No airconditioning provided. Rooms were too hot. No cover sheet on beds. Only a heavy insulated cover.

After check-in at 2:30 PM on Friday, I promptly submitted laundry to hotel. I was told it would not even be picked up until the next morning & not be returned until 5:00 PM that day, Saturday. This forced me to stay an additional night. The next day, Saturday, at 5:30 PM, when I did not find the laundry in my room & went to the front desk to retrieve […] it, the clerk told me it HAD NEVER BEEN PICKED UP! When I asked to speak to the manager on duty, John, as to how we were going to get this laundry done by 9:00 AM the next day, Sunday, when I had to leave to continue my travels, he became very defensive, saying that they did not have laundry equipment on the premises. He did not at first seem to grasp the situation that I was traveling around Ireland & could not just come to a standstill for a few days over the weekend because one of his staff had neglected to give my laundry to the outside service when they came by to pick it up. Finally, when I remained adamant, John started calling laundry services & found one that was open for another hour but they said that they weren't taking any new orders that night so he hung up. I heard this & animatedly suggested that he call them back & I would talk to them. I explained the urgent situation to the laundry service & they agreed to take it & have it done by 10:00 AM the next morning, Sunday, when they re-opened. By then, John had captured the urgency of the matter & agreed to take the laundry directly to the service himself. The next morning, John was not working so I took a taxi to the laundry service & retrieved it -- washed & stuffed into a bag, not ironed because John had not mentioned anything to them about ironing. (There were 6 dress shirts.) Other problems: The air conditioning in my room did not work upon arrival & I reported it to the front desk. A maintenance man was sent to the room but he was baffled as to why it wouldn't work. He said their regular maintenance man would fix it the next day but no one ever showed Mehr

Within walking distance to Trinity College, Temple Bar District, Grafton Street, O'Connell Street and many more sights of interest.

We stayed 1 night in May 2010 at the Davenport to go to an opening at the RHA in Ely place. Hotel was only a short walk (10 min) to the gallery and also very convenient for the national gallery. If you want to go shopping, it is more like a 20 min walk to Grafton street. Hotel all you would expect from 4 star, except had problem getting air conditioning […] to work on a warm night. Car park quite convenient, but instructions for accessing it a bit vague - press the buzzer when there and get instructions from hotel reception! Nice restuarants nearby in Merrion Row, and cafes in Baggot street for breakfast. Would stay here again Mehr

NOt right in thr city center but close enough to walk. Rooms were very comfortable and staff polite and helpful

I liked this hotel as it has great old fashioned style and quality in a great building. The only quibble was that I did not have free Wifi as they said "it was not included in my rate".
