Das Hotel ist nur ca 1km von der Metro Station entfernt. Newcastle ist also schnell zu erreichen. das Hotel liegt ruhig und das Personal war sehr freundlich. Vermute, dass die Zimmer im Sommer recht warm sind da keine Klimaanlage vorhanden ist

it was nothing more than a hole!! the carepts are worn out the beds are shocking the star rating is nonsense, there hasnt been a pool there for 6 years?!!!!

Ideal for what I wanted it for, close to the link roads, ideal for city centre, would definitely use again.

This stay at the Swallow Hotel Gateshead was my first visit to a Swallow Hotel since the late 1980's and it was like taking a warp back in time, the decor had not changed one bit since my 1980's visit to the Swallow Hotel in Wakefield. It is clear that, it was once a well appointed hotel and to be honest, just needs some TLC. I would like to give mention […] to the very efficient, friendly and helpful Night Porter (sorry didn't get his name) but he was an absolute gentleman, a real star ! Breakfast next morning was a dull experience, with a 1980's style breakfast, even the staff looked to come from the same era. The service was provided, but with absolutely minimum friendliness, with an old transistor radio playing in the background, presumably to ammuse the staff. If I had not got an internet deal and the hotel was not in a convenient position for a Medical Meeting I was attending, I would have gone elsewhere. I certainly would not pay their rack rate. A very tired Hotel, in need of some invigouration and inspiration ??? Mehr

MET BRIAN AT RECEPTION MADE VERY WELCOME .RETUNED TO THE HOTEL AT 7PM WENT FOR AMEAL IN HOTEL THEN WENT TO BED. THEN THE FUN BEGAN AT 10.30PM THE PARTY NEXT DOOR WHERE VERY LOUD PHONED RECEPTION THREE TIMES ,STILL NO JOY IN THE END I HAD TO KNOCK ON NEXT DOORS ROOM AND TELL THEM TO SHUT UP IT WORKED FOR ABOUT ONE HOUR THEN NOISE STARTED AGAIN , BED […] WAS VERY HARD WILL NOT STAY AGAIN, NOT RECOMENDED FOR COUPLES, Mehr

I stayed for 1 night with my sister-in-law on the 31st March. We were on the 4th floor & where our room was situated there was no wallpaper on the walls in the corridor so we wer'nt expecting too much regarding the room, but we were quite pleased, the toilet was clean & the beds were ok aswell, the only thing was above the bath was a lot of black mould […] in the corner but as we were only staying the 1 night we did'nt use it. For the money we paid I think we got a decent hotel, a good nights sleep & a very good breakfast. Overall not a bad base to have a night out in Newcastle. Mehr

quite frankly the worst UK hotela I have stayed in. The room had no sound proofing whats so ever. The nosie coming from next room and corridor. No mechanism to complain at time as quote - you have to email the general manager! Not very helpful at all!!!!!

Difficult to find way into hotel. Parking a problem, have an underground carpark but lights had gone and i was advised not to use it as not safe! Room , bed , bathroom all clean but seen better days.

Comfortable & close enough to Newcastle center. Not much parking, but as we stayed at a weekend we were able to park on the next street for free. We were able to walk to the city centre and really recommend taking a look around. Newcastle was a lovely place and would like to go back again and spend more time there. The Swallow Gateshead Hotel has friendly staff but the building itself if very poor. Rather than refurbishment it needs a complete refit or knocking down and starting again. From the tiny room with an ancient, dying TV and the bathroom with peeling paint on the ceiling to the inhospitable bar and rickety lift, it was all well below par.

The room was small, the TV did not work, the room was in need of refurbishment, but the bathroom was in nice order. The door to the carpark was broken so there was no security. The only good feature was that it was relatively cheap.

Good value for money for what we needed, just a bed for the night. Rooms were a littled dated, only had one pillow each, ours had some damp patches on the ceiling. All in all the hotel would score so much higher if it had the opportunity of some investment just to update the decor a little more.

Swallow Hotel I really don’t know where to start with this one. This would only just achieve a 1 star from me. It is an old run down hotel. !! It looks nice for a 3 star in the pictures but such a shock when you arrive. It looks hideous from the outside and dirty, It smelt of cigarettes in the foyer (strong!) On arrival we asked what time the spar […] was open till reply … We haven’t had one for over 2 and half years, we only booked it for this, they give the impression they have one, there is not one near by either. My partner had stayed in this hotel 8 years ago and said yes it had a spa hence why I picked this one; even he was shocked at the state it was in!!! Walking up the stairs to the rooms!!! yuk yuk , dirty carpets dusty generally not clean. Room was so old fashioned and mix match, I didn’t feel comfortable at all. The bathroom had been clean but it was old and paint was peeling of the wall and ceiling. It smelt too. This hotel would be so nice if care was taken and a bit of money spent on it. We did complain and they did refund us some money with a small refund and said sorry , Hotels.com sorted this and were very prompt at dealing with this for us. Mehr

ok hotel needs major revamp our room was clean but very very worn, bathroom ceiling all peeling off. bed very uncomfortable. hotel is a fair way out of the town centre

A good stay room ok and comfortable reflected in price for single occupancy room staff ok but not the most approachable

This hotel was very disappointing, the surrounding area and foyer had empty beer cans and glasses strewn around. There appeared to be no attempt to clear this. The room was disgusting, the carpets were coming away, appliances were broken, bathroom was was tatty and the towels were extremely old. Our room was beyond dated. I was in Newcastle for a conference at the Sage, and the Swallow was just a 15 min walk away from there. It's about a 7 min walk from Gateshead Metro Station, so you can easily get into town or the airport too. It does what it says on the tin - simple room, basic facilities, all round good value really. If you're used to the Hilton, you may be disappointed, […] but I couldn't complain. It was about the cheapest hotel going, and that's helped by being south of the Tyne. Decor quite dated but room and facilities clean. Good location and secure parking. Staff very friendly. Given the low price for rooms I think quite a bargain.

The hotel was obviously good in its hey day, alas the swimming pool is no more. We stayed Sunday to Thursday (just missing the 6 hen/stag groups staying the Saturday night). We managed to get a very good rate, which did not include breakfast etc; we only recommend the hotel because we feel that it was good value for what we paid and it was comfortable. We […] had a problem with the shower, however it was fixed immediately without any hassle;; well done to the hotel. We did not eat at the hotel as we are not 'big breakfast' eaters and we wanted a variety in the evening; so we cannot comment on the food. The hotel had a free secure undercover carpark and we never had any problems in finding a space; however the carpark is a few minutes walk around the side of the hotel. There is a small car park at the front of the hotel, intended for unloading etc. We stayed there in order to visit Newcastle and the surrounding area (never been there before). From the hotel you coulld walk to Gateshead centre (10minutes or so) from where you can catch buses or the metro; another 10 minutes and you can get to the Quayside in Newcastle. Gateshead, unfortunately, has a long way to go in its redevelopment; presumably stalled by the credit crunch. For a extremely cheap day out buy a day ticket on the metro (also covers the Tyne Ferry crossing between South & North Shields). We travelled from Gateshead to Sunderland (visited the Glass Centre & Winter Gardens); then South Shields, ferry to North Shields, complimentary bus from ferry to North Shields metro; metro to Tynemouth; walked to Whitley Bay (where we had our evening meal in Wetherspoons) and then metro back to Gateshead. A very long and tiring day, but very enjoyable. We also visited the Art Galleries & Museums of Newcastle; best by far is the Discovery Museum (and they are all free). We walked to and from Newcastle from the hotel. Another long and tiring day. It was nice not having to use the car! and no car parking charges. Mehr

The qualtity of service is good, very friendly staff ,the cleanliness and comfort of the room is good for a business traveler. When I would come back for a short stay in Newcastle Gateshead I would like to choose the "Swallow Hotel" in Gateshead again.

Outside impressions of the hotel were disappointing and inside the general condition appeared tired and in need of some love. Location wise it is definitely Gateshead and not Newcastle. The actual room was OK if you just need a bed to sleep in, but think there are better options out there.

It's and old and not very modern hotel and options are limited, but if you are in town for football or something else, where you don't plan on using the room for much more than sleeping and a quick shower it's perfect. It's very cheap and it's a 5 pund taxi ride or 25 minuts walk to the center of newcastle!
