Das Personal nicht sehr hilfsbereit, die Zimmer klein und nicht gut nach außen isoliert, so das wir im 6. Stock trotzdem sehr viel Lärm hatten. Wenn man sein Auto haben wollte, dauerte es 15 Minuten, bis der Parkservice den Wagen geholt hat. Wenigstens die Lage ist sehr gut. Das Hotel liegt sehr zentral, man kann vieles zu Fuß erkunden, öffentliche Verkehrsmittel in ca. 5 min. zu erreichen. Zum Hotel gehört ein 24h geöffnetes Restaurant, wo man auch Frühstücken kann (gegen Gebühr). Der Flughafenshuttle war gut organisiert und kostenlos. Das Hotel liegt mitten im Zentrum vom Gaslamp Quater, da es sehr alte Fenster hat ist es deshalb auch sehr laut. Das Zimmer war sehr klein und die Matratzen sehr weich dass schlafen insgesamt sehr schwierig war.

Das einzige das gestört hat war die viel zu hohe Lautstärke der Ventilatoren der Klimaanlage auf dem Dach. Obwohl die Fenster (US Fenster sind nicht mit deutscher Qualität zu vergleichen) geschlossen waren, war die Lautstärke so hoch dass ich nur mit Ohrstöpsel schlafen konnte.

Wir hatten für unsere Übernachtung ein einfaches Zimmer mit zwei Kingsize- Betten gebucht. Es stellte sich heraus, das dieses Zimmer, zwei sehr kleine eigene Zimmer waren, die durch eine Tür verbunden wurden. Sie hatten jeweils einen eigenen Eingang und ein gemeinsamen Badezimmer. Sie waren sauber und einfach eingerichtet. Da die Zimmer zum kleinen […] Innenhof lagen war es recht dunkel darin. Das Personal war ausgesprochen freundlich und zuvorkommend. Dieses Hotel ist für Reisende, die ein paar Tage San Diegos Sehenwürdikeiten und Downtown erkunden wollen hervorragend geeignet, da einige davon sogar zu Fuß erreicht werden können. Auch die Nähe zum Flughafen und der perfekt organisierte Flughafentransfer des Hotels ist von Vorteil. Unser Fazit : Ein sauberes, ruhiges, gepflegtes Hotel mit freundlichem Personal, dass für einen kurzen Aufenthalt von 3- 4 Tagen hervorragend geignet ist. Mehr

It was a very old hotel but it was cool! I would stay again....

The historic St. James is a great experience. Kudos to the management for preserving the old elevator. All who use it are given a glimpse into yesteryear when it was all the rage. Walking distance from everything I wanted to do the location made up for small room with no bathtub/

Unusual lifts, rooftop view, plush bar, very friendly staff, comfortable room right in the gaslamp area so we could walk home after dinner. We wanted something with period character and this just fitted the bill. Only complaint: they didn't have any tourist brochures apart from a gaslamp map

Decent little hotel. Shuttle from airport was a horrid disappointment and a waste of an entire hour. Book your return at the front desk in advance and all will be OK.

Great Location. Right in the heart of Gaslamp. Clean room, great views from our bathroom window. Stayed on an upper level so there was no street noise at night. Our bathtub didn't drain too well, but it's a 100 year old hotel. So we didn't mind. I would absolutely stay there again! Good value.

I was very happy with my stay. I liked the location, and the service performed by Kenlen and staff was exceptional. I would have liked to see HD channels on the flat screen TV, and the shower could have been bigger though.

The staff was friendly and helpful, and the building itself could not be in a better place, 5 min walk to the beach, surrounded incredible restaurants and bars. The front facing rooms are spacious enough to stay in and the minor time period details in the rooms are incredible, however most of the rooms in the back of the hotel lack any notable view. […] Mine had a billboard ad blocking one window and another set of windows opening to the alley, still loved it though. Average accommodations but the location couldn't be better. You get what you pay for as the price was lower than most in the same vicinity with equal accommodations. At the upper end of the Gaslamp and perfectly situated just outside the chaotic atmosphere when the bars get out. They were unresponsive to emails so I would recommend calling if you need […] anything handled. Otherwise, I would recommend it and stay there again. Mehr

I'm so happy I stayed at the Ramada in the gaslamp district. Everything I needed was within a couple blocks, the customer service was excellent and the staff was very helpful and friendly. I will definitely stay here the next time I am in the Gaslamp district.

This is a quaint old hotel - down to the elevator from 1913 with the old metal gates. I stayed alone and while the room was tiny it was more than adequate for my needs. The staff was friendly. The location is great - within walking distance of downtown and the convention center - lots and lots of restaurants nearby as well as clubs and pubs. This hotel is an old refurbished hotel that has tons of character. It's clean, neat and service is friendly. Rooms are on the small size but comfortable. It's located in the middle of the gaslamp district where all the action is - and yet the hotel itself is quiet. I would definitely recommend this hotel

Tiny tiny room, but the location was perfect. Basically didn't have to get out of bed to make coffee, but that's not such a bad thing is it ?? Had concert tickets at the Balboa Theatre which was basically two blocks away. Plenty of bars and clubs and restaurants in the surrounding blocks. Would definately stay there again for the price.

Great place! Not really expensive, especially compared to other hotels in the Gaslamp district. Good for people wanting to go fine dine, club, bar hopping. "1 Bed" rooms are pretty small, but "2 Bed" Rooms are huge with doors separating each section, good for couples traveling together or a unisex group. You're together, but private all at once. Each […] room has a huge TV too. Housekeeping's great. Clean rooms, new towels and supplies every time we came back from going out. Elevators are a little small and slow, but really doesn't affect your stay. Night staff is super friendly, Day staff is a little stuffy toward younger guests. Bar downstairs is awesome! Drinks are delicious, generous with the alcohol, but a little expensive depending on what you order. If you stay, go to the roof!! It's beautiful, bring some drinks or food with you and you can have a wonderful view of San Diego. Mehr

Nice, historic place, but the rooms are small - less than 12' by 12' for a queen bed, and the bathroom is about ¼ that size. I was horrified when I opened the door and was able to see the size of the room for as much as I paid. I didn't notice until I purchased the room, but there's an add'l twenty $$ for parking per day. The elevators are very small, […] and with the gate and heavy door, it's difficult to manuever w/heavy bags. Most of the bathroom towels were heavily worn. All in all, a clean room, but the room size was a bad start to the week. Mehr

It was fun to stay right in the heart of the gaslamp quarter. The is an old hotel that has been remodeled and rooms are small but adequate. The old steel gate elevators are fun and add charm. The staff is very nice. Beer at the pub and seafood at the ocean all within walking distance. Have fun!

The pictures for the website were a bit misleading suggesting a larger room than actually was provided. Although the rooftop terrace was quite enjoyable the cleanliness of the room left a lot to be desired and the quaintness of the hotel could not overcome the overall feel of dinginess while staying in the room. Lastly the hotel staff at the front counter […] were more concerned with their personal lives and not so much the customers, fortunately I didn't much help but those looking to engage the staff should not count on them too much. Overall I wouldn't come back to this hotel in the future. Mehr

Great location, a little noisy on Street side bring ear plugs. Historic is cool, but that means small rooms and slow elevator, still way cool.

The local to the Gas Lamp area and the Convention Center is very workable. A 12 minute walik in the am to the Convention Center is a great way to start the day. Stop at many coffee shops or breakfast along the way. Easy to and from the airport and not as expensive as other Brand names closer to the convention center. Still not cheap but reasonable.

Great "old school" hotel...very quaint!

Staff was rude when I asked for change to give the valet...which you HAVE to have because the hotel has no parking. The room configuration (the 2 queens) was a bit awkward, especially because the bathroom sink is outside the bathroom inside another room. there is no central AC in the rooms, but there is in the lobby area. I know this because our room […] window had the exhaust of the central AC right outside our window and the thing ran nonstop 24/7. Since there are AC units in the windows, there was little to dampen the noise. Finally, there are automatic light switches on the little hallway between the two bedrooms, so if it senses that you move in your bed, it switches the light on. And the pillows were pretty terrible. This is a lovely charming old historic hotel. Do not expect modern day Ritz, it is small. The rooms are very small and old, but clean. The hotel does not have the ammenities of a modern day hotel, but that is its charm. It is located in the heart of the Gas Lamp section, so there are clubs and lots of young people partying all night long. It has a bar/cafe […] attached which is very convienent. Parking is by valet only as there is no where to park except in pay lots. We would come back to stay again. Mehr

Loved the location, no need for a car, lots of restaurants and shopping close by. Hotel has lots of history. The rooftop wad a great place to sit relax and view rhe city day or night. The hotel is right in the middle of downtown San Diego. It is also right next to a 24/7 restaurant. The elevator is a little dated but it runs smoothly.

This is a historic hotel -- it used to be called the St James, and there's still a sign on the roof (which you can visit and I highly recommend) with that name. As such, it has some "quirks" that may take you by surprise. First, the elevators were installed in 1913 (there's a plaque in one that explains the history). The doors don't open automatically […] for you when the elevator arrives; you have to open them yourself. Further, they still have the inner, accordion doors that you have to open as well. Finally, they don't move as quickly as modern elevators. Personally, I loved this little reminder of times past, but I heard mixed reviews from other guests. The rooms are smaller than you're probably accustomed to as well. Again, I loved it, but if you're looking for a hotel room in which you can do aerobics, this probably isn't the place for you. Speaking of exercise, there isn't a fitness room at the hotel, though they have an arrangement wtih an excellent fitness center a few blocks away. I took advantage of this, and had no difficulties from either the hotel or fitness center. Ditto for laundry services if you need them. The hotel staff were all very professional and very courteous, lending an additional element of "old world charm" to my stay. The hotel's location in the Gaslamp District is perhaps its primary selling point. I was there for a convention, and could walk from the hotel to the Conference Center in about 10 minutes. Also, you're within a few minutes' walk of many local restaurants and landmarks. If you have a car, the hotel offers valet parking with unlimited in/out privileges. Overall, I loved my 4-night stay in this hotel. I enjoyed the "quirks", finding they made for a very different, and enjoyable, experience. Mehr

Great historic hotel with awesome roof top bar and view. Horrible valet parking. Sat in my car for 20-30 mins for one of the two front of the hotel spots to open up so I could leave my car and check in.

We stayed at this hotel for 1 night prior to leaving San Diego. We were satisfied with the room. We had to wait 25 min for our room to be cleaned @ 4pm but the room was cleaned well. The neighborhood was safe but filled with drunk 20somethings waiting in line to get into the many clubs nearby. It was a beautiful old building well maintained. This hotel is PERFECT if you are looking for a place with two beds (in other words your not sleeping with the person your with). When u ask for two beds you get two rooms together...so not only your own bed, but your own tv, AC, and fan. You share a connecting bathroom. Perfect set up. I loved the charm and history of the Saint James Hotel in the Gas Lamp District of San Diego. The old gated elevators brought me back to 1913. The room was small, but the architecture and cleanliness made up for the coziness. The outdoor mall was only two blocks away and had many wonderful stores. There were more than twenty delightful restaurants nearby, […] with indoor and outdoor seating. The free shuttle from the airport was a nice surprise. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The customer service was great. The hotel could use some updating, rooms are small and the wifi is spotty. But for the price and location (right in the middle of the Gas Lamp District), it's a great deal.
