Hotel Caribe - Mérida

Caribe ist eher ein Hostel als ein Hotel aber die Lage ist unschlagbar. Ich würde das nächste mal 5-10€ drauflegen und in das Gran Hotel einchecken, welches exakt daneben ist. Der Pool auf dem Dach ist zwar klein aber besser als nichts und für eine Abkühlung vollkommend ausreichend. Ausserdem hat man von da direkte Sicht auf die Kirche des Zocalos.

Very central, this ancient catholic school has something about it. The rooms are not that great, rather old furniture and equipment/bathroom not greatly maintained, but the swimming pool on the roof, giving onto the cathedral, and the inner patio make this place worth the visit. Great location, nice lobby and pool area. Very basic but clean room. Walk to the main plaza and all the center city sites. Safe neighborhood. Used the travel agency in the lobby to see some ruins, which was pretty good. Overall good value.

This hotel has perfect environment and location. I'm strongly recommend this one!

I was in Merida for one night to participate in the opening of Merida's month long anniversary celebration. I was traveling alone (single female) and felt totally comfortable being out and around the neighborhood and being out after midnight when all the fireworks were shot and the festivities were complete. The hacienda feel of El Caribe gives the […] real flavor of Mexico and has AC, a pool, and a great location in Merida Centro. Very old and beautiful building, the rooms could be a little bit better maintained, but overall very good. On-site breakfast is ok. Excellent location if you want to stay in downtown Merida, just two blocks away from the Gran Plaza, Cathedral, etc. It's Merida... therefore it's humid, so the rooms will have some degree of humidity smell... but air conditioned […] fixes that very fast. I planned to stay there two nights, but I left after the first night. There are several reasons, why I would not stay in this hotel again: - Hot water did not work in my room. - THe room itself was not very nice and dark. - There is only a very small window, to the inner courtyard and therefore I had the curtains closd most of the time. - the was an […] awful smell in my room (due to the humidity of the walls) - the employees don't care when you need something and their understanding of English is only very basic. I would recommend to stay in the Grad Hotel with is located 10 Meters way and comes for the same price. Mehr

Conveniently located old but nice hotel. Our room was kept spotless, beds comfortable. The food in the cafe was not gourmet but tasty and pleasing. The area surrounding the hotel is safe to shop and wander. The police presence is almost unbelieveable and the crime rate is next to nil. I must agree with other reviewers who stated that the desk clerks were not good at communicating good will. There was a sort of arrogance in their demeanor which turned me off. Also, the reviews about the air conditioners having only one temperature setting were correct. We were assigned to a room on the third floor. near the swimming pool. It was […] terrible. I'm elderly and don't enjoy climbing three flights of stairs to get to my room. After the first night, I asked for a room on the ground floor, and found it to be more comfortable, and much to my delight, THAT particular room had a remote control for the air conditioner with the capability of choosing the temperature you wanted. If you choose to stay at that hotel, be sure to specify that you want the room with controllable air conditioning. My advice is not to accept a room on the third floor, unless you enjoy being near the swimming pool. The days I was there were extremely hot, near 100 F. The streets are crowded, sidewalks are narrow, and there aren't many good restaurants. The best one, which is up to Western standards is across the street. It is air conditioned and has very good service and excellent food. Another tip: I selected my room because it was listed as "Superior room with European plan." I expected that to mean that it would be a better than average room and would include free breakfast, which they advertise as being included in the price of the room. Not so! According the the clerk at the desk, the free breakfast is included in the "Continental" plan. Mehr

Besides the reservation issue, the worse part of it was the room... AWFULL BEDS, I never slept that bad, thanks god this was only 2 days. The bathroom has a leak so dirty water was inflitrating from his base. And then, from all the outlets available, just one was usable... I definitelly do not recommend it and would simply plain avoid it in the future... […] DON'T GO THERE. Mehr

Really enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Caribe. The hotel is in a great location and the staff are friendly and very helpful. The rooms were clean and comfortable and I would recommend this hotel to anyone especially travellers that are on a budget.

Everyting fine except when we found out the female receptionist that assign us the room, gave us the smallest one. When asked why, knowing that we were scheduled to stay for 9 nights she had no answer or a very lame excuse.

The hotel is very friendly, clean and pleasant. The location is fantastic in the very heart of historic Merida. I would highly recommend Hotel Caribe.

Overall, this hotel has history, charm and good enough amenities. The roof top pool and location were the main reason we decided on Hotel Caribe. However, that staff prooved rather useless on more than one account. My grumbles are mostly with the front desk and the in house travel assistant. When our travel plans were delayed one day we immediately […] called ahead to change our reservation's start date by one day, which the reception said worked. We dealt with the date changes upon check in and again were told everything looked good. Once at the end of our stay the front desk asked when we planned to check out because our reservation had expired. Then at check out, they wanted to charge us for the extra night we never stayed. Too bad we didn't have a really difficult matter to test the waters... Also, we needed a light bulb replaced which the front desk promised to address, twice. Again, continued darkness. Then, the zinger came when we wanted to go to Uxmal, and the lady at the "travel help desk" had no idea how to get there. More problematic, she couldn't seem to make a call, open her computer or a book to get information. But she really did have a pretty smile. Also, the AC was interesting. It either worked at freezing and full blast, or off. Sleeping was a challenge although the beds were fine. Overall, Hotel Caribe is well located and the pool fun. Just don't make any reservation changes, avoid the professional staff and you'll be good. Mehr

The hotel's best attributes are its location, its traditional open courtyard setting, and the tranquility despite its location less than a block from the main plaza. The rooms are rather basic and older, although the top floor appears to have been recently remodeled with a nice small pool. Location is tough to beat.

This hotel is a block from the city center, which was very convenient for us. The staff was not English speaking, but they were helpful and very friendly. The common area is very charming in appearance as the photographs reveal There is a lovely courtyard with a beautiful fountain and a cage with a pair of toucans. We were late in checking out, but […] the staff was lenient with us and said "take your time." Those are the positive things. On the other side of the ledger: Our rooms had small beds with thin mattresses. The toilet in each room takes ten minutes to refill after each use. The first room we were given had a loud and constant electrical noise. We demanded and were given a different room that was quiet. However, the second room was not well lit. The bathroom in both rooms was very small. The room itself was spacious. There is no elevator. I would recommend this hotel to someone who is willing to tolerate the inconveniences I have described in exchange for an excellent location. Mehr

Hotel Caribe could not be in a better location, and is a great value. The rooms look a little dated and the beds were a little stiff for my liking but, overall, we were extremely satisfied.

Excellent hôtel situé en plein coeur de la vile historique. L'hôtel est un bâtiment historique parfaitement entretenu et dispose d'un parking surveillé. les chambres sont soignées, et calmes.

hôtel correct avec une décoration extérieure assez surprenante. Chambre confortable et calme. On est asse loin de la plage mais il y a un bon service d'autobus. Parking voiture apprécié et personnel accueillant

esta cerca de todo en mi caso no rente auto para mi estancia pero los autobuses, peceras, mercados, restaurantes, plazas y teatros y museos todo de yucatan accesible desde ese punto estube en un hotel tambien muy cercano de ahi y con mas estrellas y lo cierto es que me senti mas comoda en caribe, a la alberca si no le tuve confianza tal vez seria lo […] unico gracias :D y por las tardes ahi unos señorones en su restaurant trovadores de primera me enamore ! I've stayed at Hotel Caribe in August 2011 and it was a great experience. The hotel is very beautiful, the room was big, and the people was really gentle. The only bad thing was the breakfast, that was not a buffet and it was a little expensive. But the rest was wonderful. Very well localized with many restaurants and touristic places nearby. Les parties communes sont très belles, la terrasse avec petite piscine toute mignonne est très agréable. le patio avec sa terrasse pour manger dans un très joli cadre.Sa situation à deux pas du Zocalo en fait une escale très appréciable. Cependant, les chambres sont petites et sombres et beaucoup moins agréables à vivre que les parties communes.

los aires no funcionan bien. son muy antiguos y en Merida hace mucho calor. las camas parecen catres. muy viejas e incomodas. Esta infestado de insectos la habitacion. Banos chicos y feos sin ventanas. no hay elevador etc.

Jechalismy z duszą na ramieniu do hotelu 2.5 gwiazdki - zwykle korzystamy z nieco wyzszego standardu, ale daliśmy sie przekonać internetowym dobrym opiniom o Hotelu Caribe w Merida. W tych recenzjach nie było żadnej przesady. Po 3 dniach z żalem żegnalismy sie z tym uroczym i świetnie prowadzonym (czysto, z uśmiechem) miejscem, w tym także restauracyjką […] z bardzo smacznym jedzeniem oraz codziennymi spotkaniami z grupą muzykujących przyjaciół w porze lunchu pieknie grających i śpiewających (dla siebie!) meksykańskie pieśni w tym miejscu już od 23 lat. A miejsce rewelacyjne - w samym centrum starej Meridy, na uroczym Plaza Hidalgo i o rzut kamieniem od Głównego placu w mieście. . Z przyjemnością dołączamy sie do innych pozytywnych recenzji, które nas tam zawiodły. Mehr

Este hotel fue un colegio, tiene una bella arquitectura una exelente ubicación, desde la alberca se ven las cupulas de las iglesias, el personal es muy amable. El restaurante tiene rica comida yucateca a buen precio, en la noche puedes pasar un rato agusto en las mesitas que dan al parque.

Hotel is beautiful in an old cloister, location is great on an adorable little square right on the main street. The swiming pool on the roof is great. However rooms are a bit narrow and thus air conditioning is too strong or too weak.
