Monarch Hotel & Conference Center Portland Southeast - Clackamas

when I booked this room, I chose it because of the big bath that it showed in the photos. False photos. The room with the beautiful bath is the suit. Bummer. I was really looking forward to that tub time with my fiance. The beds were very comfy and the front desk was very nice about changing rooms. Yet in BOTH rooms the bathroom was so loud! You turned […] on the light and the fan came on with no option to turn it off. It was loud enough that I could hear my neighbors fan come on when they went in their room. I peed with the light off because it was insanely loud. Otherwise it was nice. The pool was beautiful and the ease of having a resturant right downstairs was superb. I located and booked a room at the Monarch Conference Center and Hotel after one of my car tires disintegrated on Southbound I 205. I used Hotels.com to locate a hotel in close proximity to where my mishap occurred. Was ok for the purpose of sleep.

We stayed here for one night on the way from California to Seattle. It was surprisingly quiet, clean and comfortable. We had asked for a quiet room as we were exhausted after driving all day and weren't disappointed. The bed was comfortable and the room very clean. Breakfast in their sunny dining room was from a menu and not included in the price of […] the room. But, that was OK as I had a nice bowl of oatmeal with toasted almonds and raisins. I asked for more almonds and raisins and they cheerfully gave me more. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. They are also close to a huge mall and other stores. Gustav's German Restaurant is a favorite and that's just across the freeway. Mehr

The hotel is definitely dated/aged BUT it was very clean which is surprising to see in some of the older hotels. The staff was friendly and helpful and the hotel restaurant staff were very friendly also. The hotel is conveniently located near several walkable restaurants such as Red Robin, Spaghetti Warehouse, and Chevy's (possibly more, but these were […] the only ones I stopped at). Also located next to a walkable shopping center with a Target which was convenient to grab some needed essentials without having to drive. Mehr

Hotel and staff were great. Heater in room growled a bit.

The hotel is very conveniently located, close to many restaurants and a big mall, movies and amenities. The rooms are clean and nicely appointed. My only complaint - the rooms on the highway side by 205 are quite noisy. I wear hearing aids and usually when I take them out all noises go away. Not here. We came down from Seattle for an all day class to become certified Zumba Instructors. The Hotel was just down the street from the Athletic Club, close to a Subway and a Starbucks. Totally Awsome. We had a great time!

Accomodating and friendly staff. Great location.

Terrific value for a quick overnight stay -- close to freeway to airport and shopping. Easy trip to SE Portland.

Great place to crash for the night, very affordable, right next to I-205 and the Clackamas mall. Our room had windows facing the freeway and we did not hear any road noise at all.

During the 2011 year, I've stayed in multiple hotels. I always stay at hotels above 3 star ratings. To insure that the room, and bed is very clean. As well as everything functioning properly, and on par to a 3star hotel, or higher. I stayed twice at this hotel, and the first time was as bad as the second time. Never giving this hotel a another change! For […] being a newer hotel, built around 2005. This hotel looks really old in the inside, and out. The wrong with the hotel- -Shower head didn't work. Sprayed all over the bathroom. Leaking all over the floor. Never got fixed in the 2 night stay. -Heater wasn't functioning all the time. Only a few times did it start up. Froze one night when the heater wouldn't start. Tried everything. -If you're allergic to mold, then STAY AWAY. Lots of mold for such a new hotel. -Many stains through out the hotel. Dirt, and such on the walls, rugs, and especially the bathroom. -The halls smell of cigarette smoke since they have smoking rooms in the hotel. A huge FAIL on there part. -Crappy service at the front desk. The Good- -The bed sheets seemed to be clean, and comfortable to sleep in. -The convenience on the hotel. Room was very comfortable and clean and quiet! Front desk staff was great when I checked in but the other days could have been a little friendlier (especially since it was on Christmas). But I would stay here again.

Nice hotel. The room was smallish but had everything I needed. Staff was very accommodating and helpful. Proximity to good restaurants was excellent! I'll likely stay here again on my next trip to Portland early next year.

Ok hotel, no newespaper, no continental breakfast had oatmeal for breakfast for $5 and was cold. Nice Bar, next to escalaotors quit noisy.

Every thing is fine except for internet quality. I could not watch youtube video because of poor signal and constant interruption of WiFi connection. Rooms are very clean.

The room had a slightly mildewy smell, but otherwise my stay was pleasant enough.

I travel very frequently with my infant daughter. I travel for business and by the end of the day I like to be able to relax in a nice quiet clean room. I was disappointed with the cleanliness of this room, especially the bathroom. I felt uncomfortable bathing my daughter in the bathtub because it was clearly dirty. I was also disappointed that the […] room did not have a microwave. The hotel staff invited me to come to the front desk and they would heat my daughter's bottle, but it was on the other side of the hotel. I was unhappy with how far I had to walk across a skybridge and down a long hallway to find our room with several bags and a baby. The room was also poorly insulated and I could hear EVERYTHING that the guests above and next door to me were doing. I travel 75% of the month, and I will not be staying at the Monarch again. Mehr

Using Hotels.com was fast and easy. The hotel was as described in the listing. The hotels computer was not running properly and over charged a few guests in the holding funds of their stay. The total was correctly charged to my account. I am sure they have fixed the problem. Great shopping and dinning in walking distance.

My only complaint is: At about 4am the person in the room next to me turned on their TV. The walls must be very thin. I could hear everything. Other than that, it was great and very comfortable.

I know they want you to eat in there restaurant in the morning, but I really didn't have time. I'm fine with there not being any complementary food available, but some coffee in the lobby would have been nice.

Great location for shopping and restaurants, but cheap rate = cheap accomodations. The shower was painful, the a/c came on and off all night keeping us awake. Booked a king but ended up getting a room with two queens instead because they said they were all booked. Overall ok for a cheap place to sleep and not much more than that.

everything was great except fro the people next to me who were loud for so long, and so I don't know if it was thin walls or loud people, but other than that, great room

This Hotel needs up dating. Service as far as the staff was concern was great but everything else was marginal. Docar in the rooms old. No newspapers.Very noisy after hours( we could hear the people walking around above us.

hotel was great had a great time

Hotel is close to shopping and freeway. It is generally quiet.. But it is tired and somewhat dingy. From the reviews I was led to believe I would get a lot for my money. I think we got just what we paid for, a mediocre night's stay. Free parking, no breakfast. Hotel staff was also just mediocre.

The Monarch is now my new Go To hotel when I travel to Portland. The staff is friendly and helpful (as it should be - but is often lacking at other hotels), and the rooms are updated and comfortable. Sam's restaurant on site is nice and the food is good, but a little pricy for what you get. The lounge however, is everything a good lounge should be; […] cheap happy hour eats, fully stocked bar, and friendly staff. The location is great and is withing walking distance to several restaurants and Clackamas Town Center Mall. Mehr

We chose the Monarch because my wife had stayed their previously on a business trip and it was close to where her parents live. The reason for the trip was because her father has cancer and we did not want to impose by staying with them. The bed was so comfortable and the handicapped room was the BEST that I have experienced. I was VERY pleased with room service, the Sunday brunch and the bar! And everyone was so kind and helpful. I didn't get to all the wonderful restaurants that surround the grounds nor did I make it to the huge mall just a block away.... so I have to go back!

Great location for shopping, food or just hanging out by the pool.. Bar staff Great people and the locals that go there are very friendly as well.

Unable to sleep well as a bright outside light from the hotel shown in through my hotel window and the blinds did not cover the entire window. Also the toilet was not anchored to the floor which made its use very interesting.

The hotel room was clean. The lobby and the hotel need to be updated. The walls are very thin, so you could hear everything around you in the other rooms and hallway. Would possible stay again.

Near shopping, restaurants and freeway access. Hotel still needs to update their common area worn carpet but the room was fully updated, clean and didn't have any "off" odors. Would stay there again.
