Excellent service at the front desk. perfect hotel room, comfy beds with nice comforters. It was a great stay and I WILL be back. Very convenient location we walked to the HP Pavilion for our concert.

It was wonderful, very comfortable, beautiful hotel. We loved it ! The only complaint would be that we ordered a pizza to our room and we were told 15- 20 mins, after thirty mins. we called again and it took another 15 mins. I think they forgot our order. We stayed at the Ste Claire while our house was torn up for plumbing work. We had never been inside the hotel, and were amazed at how beautiful it is. The staff were friendly, efficient and helpful. The room was fairly small but very comfortable, the mattress and bedding were excellent, and the bath and shower worked very well. It's an old building […] and certain details showed the need for continuous maintenance (the tub had been refinished and needed it again) but all in all it appeared lovingly cared for. The only drawback is the need for valet parking, as the hotel doesn't have it's own garage. But because the room cost was very reasonable, this wasn't too much of a hardship. Mehr

Reception was old and lovely, with young staff to match. The room was dreadful, small and badly laid out, with a bathroom suitable in size only for small children. The room faced a busy street and there was little or no noise insulation. The old fashioned sash windows were single glazed only. The TV, an old fashioned one, did not get a picture. We love […] old fashioned hotels but ONLY when they have been updated with modern functioning units. The worst thing however was breakfast . The staff were surly, scruffy and had a seriously bad attitude. We had to wait first to be shown to a table and then to have our order taken and then finally for the food to come. When it did come, it was truly horrible! In summary - never, ever again! Mehr

Beautiful hotel, lovingly preserved and remodeled. Our room was quiet and comfortable - two most important qualities in a hotel room. The only ding in the rating was a rattling HVAC in our room. Not loud enough to keep us awake but it was bothersome.

The room was attractive enough, and probably big enough (about 155 sq ft) for one person, but definitely inadequate for two. We arrived late and it was not reasonable to negotiate a change, if available. This hotel only offers full, sit-down breakfast--no coffee bar or room service, unacceptable for travelers in a hurry. In addition the wake-up call […] was 20 min late. They do have a taxi rank, so we were able to get to the station, unfed, just as our train was pulling in. Not a "four star" property. Mehr

My husband and I went to a hairshow at the SJ Convention which was right next door very convient. The front desk was helpful and we needed to store our backpacks and they had no problem with that. The room was ok and it faced the city nice. Close to eaterys and lots of clubs.

Hotel was a little old, but was clean and comfortable. We were there on business for a convention so the location was great.

I enjoyed the hotel, its location and the service. Would do it again.

I was a little skeptical of this hotel becasue the price was SO much less than surrounding hotels. But the Sainte Claire did not disappoint! Great location, nice staff, good room and a decent workout facility. Would definitely stay again!

This is the perfect place to stay if you want to be downtown and have easy access to the light rail, the Civic Auditorium, San Jose State University and down town parks. It's a very nicely preserved stately historic hotel. Our first room was on the 4th floor over the kitchen and we did have noise from the kitchen carry from the first floor to the fourth, […] hover when we asked about the noise and how long it would last we were immediately offered another room on the other wing. We accepted and it was very quiet. My suggestion is request a room on the the wind not over the kitchen to insure a quiet stay. Mehr

Old but overall Nice!

The Hotel was clean, and the staff was super friendly. The Hotel was also close to everything. I would absolutely stay there again.

This was our 2nd time staying here. This time we had some very noisy neighbors til 2:00am. I should have called the front desk earlier to complain. Security went right away to quiet them down.

We had a great experience here- very friendly and helpful staff. Excellent location- we walked everywhere. Excellent value! I couldn't believe how affordable it was- would definitely stay here again!

Great in all aspects. I highly recommend Ben and the staff of this magnificent historic hotel.

Although it was only a one night visit we had a great experience. We will definitely return on future stays

I recently stayed at the St. Claire Hotel in San Jose, CA for business. Seeing the hotel's 4 star rating, I had higher than normal expectations for the property. What I didn't expect was: -Paper thin walls (I was able to clearly hear the conversations of my neighbors) -Public rail system immediately below my room was very noisy. I also managed to […] forget several dress shirts in the closet of my room, which the hotel said were not turned in, and were not located in their lost and found. I know this was my fault, but I'm very suprised that they were not turned in. On the other hand, the hotel staff was very friendly, and the location was great. Simply did not meet my expectations of a 4 star hotel. Mehr

very nice stay. service was excellent. Beautiful hotel. room was a bit small for a large family (5), but close to Tech Museum and other sites.

This is a very nice hotel in a great location (convenient). Though it is older, they obviously take great care of the hotel. The fitness room was one of the nicest fitness rooms i have been to in a long time at a hotel. The wait staff was incredible and the rooms were clean and comfortable (though older).

The only complaint I had about this hotel and its a big one! You can hear everything, every word from your neighbors room on either side. This was a drag. Other than that. This is a beautiful hotel with an Il Forniao. Room was very clean and the bed was very comfortable. Mostly, the service was excellent. My wife and I have stayed here a few times and always had a great stay. Most recently only complaint I have is the bed was not comfortable at all so woke up with a strain in my neck. Hopefully this will be a one time issue because We really like staying here.

Stayed here for business. If you like older hotels with character, this is the hotel for you. Lot's of places to eat, easy public transportation. Good value for the area.

The only saving grace was the service. Every single person I encountered here was gracious and pleasant. The room was small. The hallway carpet was stained. Not much of a cable selection, and I got food poisoning from dinner (room service).

We quickly were attended by reception area in a very pleasant way. The rooms were clean and I just loved the French Provential atmosphere. In the morning we were pleased with restaurant service of 4 star quality. Fresh brewed coffee would of made it a 5 star in my view. If need arrives I would be delighted to stay there again and I do highly recommend […] this very elegant hotel to family and friends. Mehr

Nice old hotel. Room was comfortable. No movies on demand (older library to borrow from). Great concierge, Robert. Valet only parking was expensive and only allows 1 in/out per day for $21 a day. Rooms were charming, but walls are very thin and can hear other guests every move.

Difficult parking I waited outside for like 10 minutes for somebody to come and park my car. Finally after waiting I called and requested assistance. without that isolated situation everything else was perfect. Staff was friendly and will to provide any assistance.

Stayed during the business week for a training conference. Hotel was clean, comfortable, and excellently priced compared to other downtown options. Used the small gym (two treadmills, light weights, chin-up station) - found it quite clean and stocked with fresh towels. Easy food options (restaurants and grocery stores) all within walking distance. No […] airport shuttle, so had to use taxi's, which were about $20 each way to San Jose International. Mehr

Stayed here for my bf's birthday weekend, it was also St. Patrick's Day with a bunch of drunken people around. When we first checked in we could hear the people in both rooms next to us talking due to the thin walls but, as soon as we set up the music that problem was solved. The king size bed was very comfy with a down pillowtop and very warm blankets. […] The shower had virtually no water pressure and don't expect it to get very hot. We had dinner and breakfast the next morning at Il Fornaio, dinner was AMAZING. Breakfast was okay, nothing to write home about though. All in all a very nice hotel with fast service from the front desk and valet, comfy bed, nice sound system, amazing restaurant, and great location. Mehr

One word: Disappointed with our stay. The room next to us was extremely noisey until about 3am. We called the front desk who said they'd send security up and never did. Upon checkout, they hadn't even noted our complaint. The desk attendant was nice enough to credit our valet parking, but it was a huge annoyance. Plus we got placed in a room that overlooked […] a wall and ventilation units and the remote to the tv didn't even work. Not so great at all. Mehr

it was very nice with one very big exception: The walls are too thin/old -- something -- and we could hear the conversation next door as if they were in our room. They weren't talking loud, but it was noticeable and bad.

The room was great and room service was good as well.
