Most times no hot water in sink or shower.Very uncomfortable beds (futon?) Problem with unlocking door, went up and down to lobby 4 times before they called maintenance and discovered a dead battery.When I asked the man at the front desk for needle and thread the phone rang and he answered the phone leaving me hanging. I left and found my own needle […] and thread. I was not happy with our stay and will not be staying there again. Mehr

My husband and I stayed here for a romantic weekend. The hotel was just a few blocks from the beach, as well as some fun places to eat in La Jolla. The room was spacious and very nice. Most everything was clean and inviting. The room had a fridge, although no microwave or coffee pot, which seemed strange. We ate at the restaurant for breakfast, which […] was absolutely delicious. While we didn't use the pool as it was a bit cool out, it looked nice. We didn't pay the extra for an "ocean view" however we could see some from our 4th floor room. The view from the restaurant was wonderful. Only issues were...the remote control didn't work (and was extremely dirty), and you had to let the sink run forever before you'd have hot water. The water in the shower also fluctuated between cool and hot when running. We also weren't huge fans of paying $15/night additional for parking, especially in "off season" (November) when there was no shortage of space in the parking lot. Mehr

I was at the pet friendly floor.. the room was good but there was a constant noise as a motor noise. I was in 506. Plus parking charge of $15 that wasn't applied year ago its a new thing.

I made a mistake when booking this hotel I had intended to book an hotel with a very similar name. I was dissapointed on arrival but the manager made up for it. He was extremely attentive and keen to help in any way possible. Full marks. The hotel will be closing soon for refurbishment which is neccessary. I would have no hesitation in rebooking one […] the refurb has been completed. Mehr

wonderful place - staff is attentive and recognizes and addresses guests by name. Rooms are clean and very comfy beds. only thing missing was in room coffee. one more thing: Don't request the top floor of rooms or you will hear the kitchen activity above until midnight!

Nice staff, great service and close to pacific ocean and la jolla down town. Has got all San Diego attractions near by and a great surrounding of sea shore and mountains.

Great location, very close to La Jolla downtown with its shops and restaurants. The rooms are just excellent because newly restored. The staff is very friendly and always helpful. I will book this hotel again for sure!

Excellent rooms. Beautiful view of the LaJolla Cove. Loved the location and their service was very, very good. Business Center could be improved and I'm not a big fan of all-valet parking...although they were very friendly. I'd stay there again!

This is my favorite hotel in La Jolla and in my top 3 in San Diego. Get an oceanfront room for the view, and then take a short walk to the beach. Lovely.

During the power outage in the San Diego are, the hotel management took extra care of all the occupants by providing flashlights, escorts to rooms, and food. We always choose this hotel when we are in the area for its location and value for the price. Our only complaint was due to the required valet parking now and the surliness of one of the valet […] s. loved out stay at this hotel. i had stayed at this hotel several years ago when it was being remodelled...what a great job they did! love the rooms, amenities and especially the view...i usually stay on the beach but the patio is too cold to sit out there. at this hotel, you can see the ocean and surf and it is warm and wonderful on the patio! i […] did have an issue with the faucet handles but loved the shower set up!!! the best part of the hotel was the staff!! starting with the manager, all the way to the valet they all had the best attitude, service and affability!!! it really made us feel welcome and at easy and this was a very busy weekend for them..so hats off. a short walk to the beach or their great shuttle service makes this hotel a great value and experience for staying at my favorite beach on this coast..enjoy! I loved this hotel, it is very clean, recently rennovated with 42 inch TV and a very nice bathroom. The only thing I wish they had is a shuttle that goes to downtown San Diego instead of just going to La Jolla village. Upon arrival at the hotel, we were extremely disappointed to find out that this hotel's hot tub has been out of order for the past month prior to our stay and is not expected to be fixed for several months to come. The only reason we stayed at this hotel was to be able to enjoy the hot tub. This information was not disclosed when I called the front […] desk to double-check on the hot tub and to make reservations. The manager was very apologetic and compensated us monetarily for our inconvenience, which I really appreciated. Mehr

We loved this hotel! The room decor was so chic - classy and contemporary. And the location is perfect. We walked to the beach with our complimentary beach chairs and had a wonderful week-end. I will definitely come back! The Grill restaurant has beautiful ocean views, but the food portions were small.

The hotel is nice enough; location is fine - easy access to the freeway, but there is nothing around it. But upon arrival, it was as though I had to check myself in, and in the morning (at 4.40am!), when I discovered there was no hot water in my room, no one did anything about it. For the price, you would think that such a thing wouldn't happen, and […] that the staff would be responsive if it did. I don't think I'd stay there again, even though I'd want to. Plus, it's La Jolla. May as well stay either by the beach or by UCSD. This is in the middle of nowhere, really. We stayed 3 nights at this hotel in mid august. The rooms are newly refurbished, look great and have a nice size. Good value for money. The problem though, is the soundproofing, which is non existing. The first night, we heard the elevator all the time, it's really loud. We traveled alone, and was as you sometimes might be, put in a room with a door […] to the next room. In the morning we could also hear their noise and chattering. Asked to be moved to another room, was fixed in five minutes. Way better, great job. Walking distance to the beach at the shores, everything near by, not far from the highway ramp, so getting in to downtown San Diego is quick. If they fixed the soundproofing, I would absolutely rate this place top grade. Mehr

This hotel was great, on the inside. When you get there, you learn that the valet parking they speak of is the ONLY parking. If you would like to park for free, you have to park on a neighborhood street or behind the Starbucks/Subway/Gas Station in front of the hotel. It also says the room includes a refrigerator and a game console, neither of which […] I found during our 4 day stay. In order to access a microwave to heat our 18-month-old's food, we had to ask and were led into the employee break room. The only ice machines in the 11 story hotel are on the 6th and 9th floor, which would be okay, IF we were: 1) on one of those floors, 2) were told at the desk when we checked in, or 3) there were signs up notifying patrons of this. Also, when checking in there is a $25 fee automatically charged to your credit/debit card on the off chance they need to charge you for damages, room service, etc. This charged is refunded but could still pose an inconvenience to someone who doesn't keep much extra money on their debit card. Nicely remodeled building. Staff is beyond friendly and attentive. The valet guys and their local shuttle service make this hotel shine!! Keep in mind the room service has very limited hours and food choices. Better to use the shuttle to find good grub. Room and bed were comfy and clean. No jacuzzi. The owner needs to find a new smoking area for staff. […] The secondhand smoke gets drawn into the ventilation system, right into my 10th floor room. I'm sure things things will get fixed. Mehr

We loved this hotel--great location to the village of La Jolla and the beach. Great restaurant and music on Sunday. The staff was friendly and the room was very comfortable as well as the bed. However, since the hotel's renovation, they put in the strangest faucets. They looked great, but you could turn them on and off when your hands were wet. The […] shower, was beautiful, but the shower was see-through on both sides with a curtain that was difficult to find as there were many switches. It seems that the designer was going for form rather than substance and convenience. Mehr

This was more than I ever could have expected !!!! And to top it off.....watching the sunset from the rooftop restaurant was to die for. I highly recommend this hotel.

We really enjoyed our stay at the hotel. The Beach was within walking distance as was La Jolla Village and La Jolla Cove (about a 20 minute walk). The staff, especially the valets were extremely helpful with restaurant recommendations and general info about the area. I wasn't keen on paying for valet service but they went above and beyond to help the […] hotel guests. The bar and restaurant at the top of the hotel are very nice and the views are gorgeous! It was only about a 10 minute drive to get into downtown San Diego so very convenient in that regard as well. Would highly recommend! Mehr

Imagine the perfect getaway - a room with a balcony that opens out to a breathtaking palm and ocean panorama. The room is sleek and spotless and modern and airy. All you want is your magazine, a glass of chardonnay and your patio chair. Now insert a crying toddler wailing through the wall and some idiots on motorcycles sticking it to the man on Torrey […] Pines Boulevard. Still sounds relaxing? Sorry. It's not very. This is a hotel with no pictures of families on its website (but which DOES shuttle travelers to nearby nude beaches), no kiddie menus and no bath-tubs and it's still overrun with cranky toddlers and poorly-behaved kids. I'm not sure why a hotel that tries so hard to create a posh, adults-only atmosphere still has doors that adjoin rooms together (which transmit every burp, giggle and other noise you can imagine). Rooms were crisp, clean and recently renovated with gleaming glass showers and spotless tile. Outside, it was a different story. The hot tub was out of order, drained and covered in sheet metal. The elevators were scuffed and tattered, the metal facings revealing years of wear. Televisions didn't have clear pictures and the wifi went in and out. The biggest hassle, however, was the mandatory valet parking. Imagine that you have a reservation for dinner and you're standing in a line four-deep while someone's kid is asking the valet 100 questions on what it's like to be a valet and the valet is politely but nervously trying to answer while the kid's parents stare off into the middle-distance. And all you want is YOUR keys to YOUR car, parked 20 feet away in a half-empty lot. Would you tolerate that for days? I've been going to La Jolla for 30 years and married my husband there and I don't think I'll be staying in town again if it's just going to be a very expensive version of a Hotel Circle experience. The room was very clean and modern, with crisp white sheets on the bed and marble in the bathroom. We were pleased with the aesthetics of the hotel and the room, but had a few concerns with the hotel service. First, we arrived late around 10pm, and the staff member at the front desk had a lot of trouble checking us in. He called his colleague over twice […] to help him out, and the process took a long time. Next, when we got up to the room, the water in the shower would not get hot. We called the front desk to reset the boiler, and waited, but the water never heated up. Our last complaint was that the doors slamming from surrounding rooms in the morning was loud, and woke us up around 8AM. Other than that, the pool (unlike our shower), though not very big, was warm and pleasant, and it was a very short walk to the beach. It was not a bad stay overall, but we will probably try a different place next time. Mehr

The jaccuzi was not working, Wi Fi was sketchy, there were no bikes or kayaks avail to guests, as their phone announcement promises. Staff was generally nice and accomodating

Great location, great staff. Close to beach, shuttle bus drivers are great.

Great spot, walking distance to beach and other little restauraunts. I would stay again.

Nice hotel, staff was friendly. The pool area had a portion of the decking blocked off due to some work being done. We still enjoyed our stay there.

This was our first trip to the La Jolla/San Diego area. My husband and I were very pleased with the location of the hotel and surrounding area. We were 4 blocks from the beach and just 10 minutes from La Jolla Village. We had an oceanview room, which was on the corner, so we had two sliding doors with ocean breezes and great views. Our only complaints […] (minor) were that one of the drawers was broken and one day they were out of beach chairs (advertised on the site as free to use). Other than that, the restaurant/room service was great and we'll definitely consider staying here in the future. Mehr

We were disappointed that there wasn't coffee nor a refrigerator in the room, and no water machines. Staying onthe 10th floor, it wasn't convenient for beverages. Other than that, the staff was great and the room was clean.

We arrived at the hotel and the check in was fine, everything went smooth. We got our room on the 5th floor very nice view and very comfortable. Our trip was a family trip so the size of the mini refrigerator was a little small for 2 adults and my 2 children under the age of 10. However we managed with the limited space, but when it came to the coffee […] maker not being in the room that was a big deal for us. We love to brew our coffee at any time we feel fit, especially a nice cup after a long day's drive around at 8:00pm. Big disappointment when we called the front desk and they said no coffee makers were in the room as they had removed them. The Hotel only serves coffee in the morning so they suggested if we needed coffee to go to Starbucks. They stay was pleasant and confortable only suggestion I make is be sure to take a lot of cash on hand (dollar bills) to tip the staff. Mehr

Great hotel in a great neighborhood. Will definitely stay there again. Try the wings and fish tacos in the restaurant.

We got a room right by elevator so we didn't sleep very well. Called the front desk to ask if we could have another room but they weren't too helpful. Valet parking attendants were talking loudly right outside our windows; it took another phone call to the front desk to quiet them down. Next time we'll stay somewhere else.

The room was beautiful and very comfortable. there are two issues we had though. The first is the bathroom was modern and clean but unsafe if you have any ADA issues. The floor is highly polished and very slippery, the shower door swings freely, does not latch so it can also contribute to falls getting in or out of the shower. Staff very nice courtious, very accomodating, had a very nice stay and would recomend this hotel to all.

Hotel La Jolla seems like a luxury hotel on the surface. However, if you look closely, you can tell they remodeled it in a hurry. Our room was filled with unfinished bits, from the sprinklers to the bathroom mirror to the lights. The room was modern and beautiful, but it was obvious they had forgotten about the details. We had a room on the 10th floor. […] When we checked in (which took about 10 mins because they couldn't find our reservation booked through hotels.com), they warned us that there would be noise from the bar on the 11th floor from 8:30-10:30pm. Since I knew we would be awake still at 10:30am, I wasn't worried. However, the music - actually karaoke from a private party - didn't begin until 11pm and continued well past midnight. You could hear every word of the badly sung music. We had an early morning, so this was pretty bad timing to say the least. The bar and the hotel front desk obviously don't communicate. We also were looking forward to trying out the rooftop bar, but were turned away because they had a private party. So, overall, there is a great view, but that is about it. I would have rather paid the same for a less hip hotel right on the ocean. Mehr

I stayed two nights while attending a conference nearby. Room was clean, quiet, comfortable. Front Desk very business like and able to answer all my questions about hotel and surrounding area (no info packet in room). Valet parking only - but staff very polite and very prompt. Food service on top floor is excellent. Bar service attentive and generous. […] The breakfast was particularly good. Mehr

The Hotel is under new management and the staff went out of their way to be friendly and helpful. The rooms are nice and location is withing walking distance of the beach and restauraunts. The hotel is a good value for the price we paid.

Up all night due to room next door tv. Nice staff but lousy walls.

My husband and I booked a room for one night for.a wedding we were attending nearby. We loved the hotel so much that we stayed an extra night! The room was very spacious. We especially liked the room layout. The all glass shower made the room feel bright and alive. The room was impeccably clean too! The bed was heavenly. The view at sunset was georgous […] of the ocean and palm trees. The location was also a plus. You could easily walk to great shopping and dining or, there is a free shuttle if you want to go anywhere in a five mile radious. We took the shuttle to the downtown location, but ended up walking back because it was such a nice area. The staff at the hotel was more them helpful in every situation. I cannot say enough great things about this hotel. Oh, and there is a great restaurant with amazing views as well as a very warm pool and clean jacuzzi. And if all that isn't enough, they are dog friendly!!! Love, love, love this hotel and the romantic weekend my husband and I shared there. Thanks!!! Mehr

There is no reason for valet service. It is just a money grab.
