We chose the Westin for the convenience of its location and for their "heavenly beds." However, we were extremely disappointed with the room's "eco" climate control. We like the rooms to feel cool. The climate control allows one to set the temp to 65, but the room never gets cooler than 70 (per the display, although it actually felt warmer than 70). […] Westin had engineering check our room out twice (since we stayed for 2 nights) and said nothing was wrong. They speculated that it was due to the eco system. If you are one to prefer a more robust A/C in a hotel room, then this is NOT the place to stay at. Also, the lobby construction was inconvenient since we had to take an alternate route to the valet parking (it's a pain to do in downtown). We were on the 16th floor, so the construction noise didn't bother us too much. Still, we didn't like staying at a hotel that was undergoing construction, and I'd imagine staying on any of the lower floors would have been worse. Perhaps the stay would be more enjoyable after the construction is finished, but the room's weak A/C system is a dealbreaker for me. Mehr

They are working in night shift, and verry noise.

The battery in our rental car went dead. Jamie went way out of his way in assisting us. He called the rental company for us & even gave us a taxi voucher for dinner. All the valets were helpful.

We had a good time while at your hotel, although I wish you would have posted something on your website about all the construction being done. It was hard to find the front of the hotel due to having to detour. Signs indicating where to go would have been helpful. We had to pull over and call the hotel in order to find what street we should enter from. […] GPS says to enter from Broadway circle. That's impossible to do with all the construction going on in that area. We didn't have an ironing board in our room so we called the front desk to request one. They told us they would be right up and 40 minutes later they arrived....as we were walking out the door for dinner reservations. Not classy at all!! The bar closes earlier than it should for a hotel bar. I think enticements to lure patrons into the bar area would be nice.It was a shame that it wasn't packed full of guests on a Saturday night. The bar manager explained the reasoning for the early closure. He explained that he recently transferred to this Westin property and I think he has some AWESOME ideas on how to promote the bar area. I HOPE that managment pays attention to those great ideas. My professional advice is to utilize the ideas he has. New ideas are always great ones and it doesn't hurt to try. We travel extensively nationally and internationally and we pay close attention to the minor details that draw return patrons. Too many times we see that management doesn't want to change things. Since the hotel is getting a "facelift", use that same mentality when trying to expand the eating and drinking establishment within your property. It would be nice to return to the Westin, but we will wait until all construction is completed. Too much construction traffic for our liking! Mehr

The hotel is great! Very clean and awesome location. Many great places to shop and/or eat. Close to the Pier so can enjoy the beach which is very fun!

Wonderful hotel in a very convenient location within walking distance of the Gaslamp Quarter and public transportation to all of the major sights in San Diego. Service was excellent; when I asked for a bar of soap (because I don't like liquid soap in the shower), they brought me an entire bag of soaps, shampoos, etc.! Concierge was very friendly and […] helpful in directing us to public transportation to go to the zoo, Coronado Island, Old San Diego, etc. Hotel is "connected" to a large shopping center with a very nice food court. Really enjoyed the room!!! Very comfortable and clean. Only downside is that main entrance was underconstruction so doesnt feel welcoming but at least the staff was welcoming.

The Westin in the Gaslamp District was a great and convenient place to stay. Lovely accommodations!

Perfect location in the perfect neighborhood for young, nightlife-loving guys or gals. The downside I hope is only short live: there was massive construction going on and my room had two unwanted bug visitors. I can deal with spiders, i can deal with lady bugs and I can even deal with ants, but I can't deal with roaches. I found two. The hotel sent […] a cleaning crew immediately, but it had me wondering and paranoid the whole time. Keep your eyes open and ask to move to the Westin San Diego if you have such an experience. Mehr

So after reading all of the other reviews, I was skeptacle of what to expect upon arriving at the hotel. There were quite a few comments about construction going on at the hotel. I have to say this hotel was NOT EASY to find because your GPS drops you off in the wrong spot.....and its gets really confusing because one side of the hotel is cloosed for […] construction and there is not much of a lobby to check in BUT it is "under construction' and once you get pass all the hoopla it is all worth the trouble! My room was a deluxe double room and it was BEAUTIFUL, the view was awesome at night, the room was very clean and the beds were so comfy......and the best part is that it is close to everything! I would LOVE to return to this hotel when the lobby is finished, I can only imagine how much nicer it would be...... Mehr

The perfect location and perfect room rate. I would stay at this hotel again. The bed was amazingly comfortable. The elevators were quick. Front desk was very friendly. A couple nit-picky negatives: 1) Construction led to confusion on how to get to the hotel. Must access from 1st rather than Broadway Cir. 2) Automatic lights in the room were annoying. […] The hallway and bathroom lights automatically turn on with any detected motion. This is bothersome when you have to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night, the lights interrupt you partners sleep... Oh, and they take forever to automatically turn-off. Seems backwards. 3) The cleaning service didn't really clean while we were there. Yes, they made the bed and brought clean towels. But there was still dirt on floor and the bathroom looked untouched. The room should be cleaned like a new guest is arriving, in other words, thoroughly. 4) Expensive parking. $32 a night. It's ridiculous and speaks for itself. Mehr

Overall, this hotel was great. They accept dogs and do not charge any extra fees that most other hotels do. Location was central to everything. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Only complaint: I pulled up to Valet, but saw that two male employees were busy chatting with four scantly dresses women. I stood there waiting about a foot away as they laughed […] and gave directions (apparently it took both employees to do this). I waited about two minutes before finally butting and asking them to take my keys. For a $32 valet fee and a Westin, I expect more. Mehr

First of all the hotel was going under construction at the time I stayed, which I felt they should have told us or given us some type of comp. The rooms are nice, good service and a great spot. The bed was comfortable. The robe was a very nice touch. Good location.

I really liked the hotel becasue it was centrally located. Parking fees were, in my opinion, a little excessive -- $36.00 a night, but right next to the hotel was the mall parking structure where one could park for $10-$15 a night, so I acessed the resource of the mall's parking structure. The hotel staff were all very nice and several times initated […] offering assistance. When I visit San Diego again, I plan to stay at the Westin hotel. Mehr

Be aware, it's not just the lobby under construction, it's the entire outside entrance area too. If you're on the wrong side of the hotel, the jackhammering outside is enough to drive you crazy. We got moved to the other side which was better.

Loved the room, the service and the surrounding areas. It is in walking distance of everything; shopping, main tourist sights ie, gas lamp district, seaport village..... as well as the beautiful Horton Plaza and awesume restaurants.

Amazing beds and great service.

Location is good. No regular parking available. Had to spend extra $40 for parking for 1 night.. During the night the light in the room turned on 3 times waking us up.

This hotel is very nice, our room was clean, but for the price, it could have been more comfortable, the bed & pillows were not too comfortable, no fridge which is always convenient to have and most hotels for this price & high end do have. Overall is was a great stay, it's close to everything we wanted to see, very convenient and had a great New Year […] in San Francisco. Mehr

This is a nice hotel, great location, and friendly staff. The construction is a nusince in respect to getting into the hotel, after that you don't notice it. The parking is mandatory valet or other lot off property. We were directed to a lot just down the block from the main entrance. Will consider it again on the next trip...

Dirty Rooms, Small Double Beds, long valet lines, and overall not a great value.

Do yourself a favor and stay at one of the other fine hotels in the Gaslamp Quarter. The front entrance is under construction so check in is a pain. Parking is way to expensive. There is no free internet, and furthermore the light in the entry way of our room was automatic so at random durring the night it would just turn on. I was expecting more from […] a Westin. Mehr

Having stayed at this hotel before construction I know that it can be a great place. However, with it under renovation it was just too noisy and not a relaxing place to be. Will wait until they are finished with construction to stay again.

I don't know why they are renting out rooms when they are under construction. I was woken up at 6 am by jack hammers. When I checked outbid was going to complain but it was not worth it all of the lobby was shaking. The parking was 35 a day.

when you pay this rate, you expect internet access from personal laptop to be free, a business ctr, free continental bfast and parking for ones auto; they did not have a business ctr, charged for internet, no breakfast and no parking

Location is the key for this hotel! It is not the nicest Westin I ever stayed in but the service was really good. Parking is expensive but I got discount through hotels.com to have it included. Everything is withing walking distance or very short drive!

Overall we were happy with the hotel. I'll give you the pros and cons. Pros: 1. Close to everything! Fine dining, shopping and sites were all within walking distance. 2. The doormen are awesome. Always friendly and made recommendations from places to eat and see. Always there to open the door for us with a smile. 3. Hot water! Ok I know but we've stayed […] at places with tepid water. The hotel actually has hot water. 4. Great rates for the area. Cons: 1. I understand they are undergoing a rennovation however I can't consider this a 4 star hotel. 2. Don't eat at Horton's downstairs. Way overpriced and the food wasn't great. Service wasn't that great there either. 3. While the room was clean, it could have been cleaner. Again, I can't see this as a 4 star hotel. 4. Flat pillows. Advertised as "heavenly beds" I wasn't impressed. Overall I probably would stay there again but we'd know what to expect. Mehr

After staying at the San Diego Gaslamp Westin in August, 2011, it was a shock to discover a major renovation underway with no forewarning of valet entrance basically gone. Had to drive around the block to find the entrance. Room service was prompt, staff very efficient, but wished the carpet had been vacuumed at least once during our 4 day stay. Great […] view from 14th floor, but for once would wish that windows would be clean. Been here many times with dirty windows. Bonus - new, clean carpeting, comfy beds (as before). Mehr

Only issue could be the ongoing construction, even though it wasn't an issue during our stay as we stayed during Christmas. Otherwise the hotel is very good.

I thought the staff was very friendly and helpful from the front door to the check-in staff and the concierge who helped us with a car rental with great ease. Even though they are renovating a portion of the hotel, we were not disturbed by any noise and the 24 hour gym was an added convenience including a nice and well stocked locker room. Location […] was great - easy walk to all other points of interest and in stumbling distance from the area establishments. We saw a show at the Balboa Theater and it was a two minute walk through an outdoor shopping mall. I would recommend this hotel to other travelers looking for a place near the Gaslamp District. Mehr

we would have rated the hotel higher if it werent for the remodeling of the lobby. The room, although quite a hike from the elevator, was very nice. the Egyptian cotton bed linens was awsomely comfortable.

upon arrival we wanted to get a drink while getting ready for the xmas party we were attending. to my dismay, there was NO mini bar ! other than that, we would absolutely go back, great service great crew attentive and very nice.

This hotel is right in the middle of downtown San Diego so it is very well placed for access to major venues such as the zoo, Padres and Chargers. The rooms are comfortable, but I would describe it as more of a business hotel than a family hotel. Good swimming pool and fitness centre, and also a good place to go for a run down to the water if that is […] what you are seeking. The concierges are excellent and really know their stuff. In fact all of the staff were very friendly and helpful. Easy walking to restaurants and trolley/trams which are regular, reliable and quite safe. Mehr

I love staying at the Westin. This location, was however, not like my previous stays in different cities. The front of the hotel is under construction so you hear lots of loud machines banging and scraping all throughout the day. We booked a roll away bed through the site but the hotel was unable to accommodate due to the type of room we booked. The […] hotel tried to give us a crib to use instead, but my son is 4 years old so he refused to sleep in it. We decided to use the mattress of the crib and place it on the floor to make more space in the room, but the hotel apparently has 'regulations' against that so we were forced to keep the crib in our room, even though we only needed the mattress. We were extreemely cramped in the room. We were surprised at the $35/day parking fee as well. Mehr

Staff was very nice and accomodating. Rooms were large, clean, and comfortable. Will definitely come back!
