Howard Johnson Downtown - Chicago

Wir verbrachten 4 Nächte in diesem schönen und sehr zentral gelegenen Hotel. Die Haupteinkaufsstraße und viele Sehenswürdigkeiten (wie z.B. der Water Tower, John Hancock Tower) sind innerhalb weniger Minuten zu Fuß erreichbar. Ebenso gibt es viele unterschiedliche und preiswerte Essensmöglichkeiten in unmittelbarer Nähe. Sehr empfehlenswert!

zu den pluspunkten: lage und umgebung ist sehr gut. das ist aber leider alles. das hotel verdient nicht mal einen stern. zimmer, flur, aufzug waren sehr schmutzig - waren wohl fast seit der entstehung nie gereinigt worden. die wände im bad waren von schimmelpilzen umsäumt. es waren ausschließlich nichtraucherzimmer, jedoch hat man überall geraucht, […] und nicht nur zigaretten! vorsicht vor der buchung dieses hotels, höchstens wenn man auf gras und schmuddeliges ambiente steht! Top Lage und mittendrin.Ein sehr günstiges Motel mit kostenfreien Parkplatz mitten in Chicago Downtown.Leider war unser Zimmer nicht so toll,aber so ist das oft mit den gebuchten Zimmern .Man bezahlt vorher und bekommt irgendwas in der letzten Ecke.Dieses Zimmer war sauber und klein glich aber mit dem Fensterchen was eher einer Schießscharte glich.Hinter […] uns der Getränke und Eisautomat,bei einer vor Ort Besichtigung hätte ich es wohl nicht genommen.Sehr gut ist das Restaurant direkt an dem Motel wo man sehr gut und günstig frühstücken kann. Das Hotel liegt ideal um viele Sehenswürdigkeiten und Shopping zu Fuss zu erreichen. Die Sauberkeit ist ok - es gibt jedoch Besseres. Was etwas störend war sind die anderen Hotelgäste. Die Hockey-Fans waren sehr laut in den Gängen und Zimmern und hinterliessen eine Riesensauerei, Bierflaschen, Essensreste waren überall verteilt. Very nice old, but in a good way, motel (motor hotel). It's like what we all grew up going to on family vacations. You are within walking distance of the center of town and of course there's always the taxi cab option. I was here on business and plan on bringing my family back.

We enjoyed the location of the hotel, but found the rooms very simple, not even a day cover for the beds, and the towels were thin like tablecloths. Next time we visit Chicago, it will be in a different hotel..

Hotel needs better wifi but great value and a good stay.

This is a great hotel for the price and location. Only thing I did not like was the noise at night as this is a older hotel. For the price I would stay a second time.

The hotel was very conveniently located to everything we wanted to see. Parking was easy. The room appeared clean but on further inspection the tub was filled on bottom with dirty water and the bed had what looked like dried skin flakes

Free parking is super good! The location is nice, close to the Chicago station. The room is clean. Coffee maker is nice.

Overall, I guess its a good place to sleep. The hotel is small, but a very convienent location. The television, and service, should be updated. And I believe they should state that owners of Apple products, like MacBooks, will not benefit from their free WiFi service. Was not aware until our 4th day into the stay. VERY convenient to many sights, shopping and tourist areas. Free parking was great and they let your dog stay free... the room itself was smallish (w/ 2 double beds crammed in) but there are bigger rooms there also... Very fair rate and the onsite restaurant served excellent food at very reasonable prices. I will definately stay here again!

I booked this hotel because it was the cheapest and easiest with the included parking. I was expecting it to be pretty bad, and while it wasn't great it was surprisingly good! After checking in we passed by a room with a dog that barked all day, but we had rooms upstairs over the parking lot with no one next to us so it was pretty quiet. The rooms […] were clean and didn't smell. There wasn't much of a view but there was plenty of daylight coming in the window light. The beds were actually really nice (although I don't think under the beds had been swept in ages.) Probably not the most secure rooms. And one night my wife noticed some people "doing it" in a car out in the parking lot. A lot of things probably could have gone wrong but nothing did. Overall I was really happy with our stay. THANKS! My girlfriend and myself chose this hotel mainly based on the free parking. If you've ever been to Chicago before, parking at 99% of hotels can get pretty expensive quickly, so we went here to save the money. As a note, there are only 40 parking spots for 71 rooms, but we never saw the lot filled when we were there. The rooms are a little older, still […] have older TV's and beds (but still comfy). The bathroom was upgraded a little and the water pressure was fantastic in the shower. The walls are kind of thin, so try to get a room on the 2nd floor away from the main doors if you want a little bit more quiet. The staff is really really really really great. They are friendly and helpful, and really know the area and are fun to talk to. There is a restaurant attached to the property that operates until 5pm, and the people there are very nice and the chicken soup was amazing. There is a 7-11 right down the street, along with a movie theater a couple blocks away and restaurants everywhere!! All in all, if you're looking for a place to simply sleep while you're in Chicago and seeing the town at a great rate and value...this is the place for that. Mehr

price was right.... uncomfortable beds to be honest but location was awesome and friendly people..... did not have ammenities we hoped for like microwave or small fridge... which was a bummer...the onsite restaraunt was decent. actually good food and great service...for a greasy spoon... but honestly the hotel was decent for the cost and it was just […] a bed to sleep in we didnt go to chicago for the hotel we went for the city.... so we were overall very pleased with it Mehr

This hotel is on a busy street about 4 blocks from the Hard Rock Cafe and 6 from Michigan Ave. One of very few hotels with free parking which more than made up for any other shortcomings. I would stay there again as we live in St. Louis and typically drive up.

Free parking in Chicago - an unusual amenity. Non-smoking room had a whiff of smoke... But this is about the cheapest liveable room in downtown Chicago...

I stayed in this hotel because of the price. It is a budget hotel and you know it once you get there. For example, the iron is tethered to the ironing board. And it is not an expensive iron. The room was ok but there was a noticeable stale smell upon entry. You quickly get acclimated to it. The channel selection is limited. No NBC, Fox News or MSNBC. […] All is all, I would stay there again if there were no viable alternatives. Mehr

It is what it is, nothing special. Definitely worth it for the free parking. Very convenient to everything.

The Howard Johnson on LaSalle is definitely a pleasant surprise. Sure it is outdated and not your fancy hotel like others nearby but it offered the amenities we were looking for; a clean room and free parking. So when you balance the price and the room and can appreciate the free parking, it is a real steal in a convenient location to the loop and Michigan […] Ave. Mehr

Good location; very old establishment but rooms clean and in good condition. Friendly office staff, Free parking which is unbelievable in downtown Chicago and that is a real plus.

Not an option to read labels in spanish on the TV programs. Restaurant closed too early.

Older hotel that definitely needs some cosmetic and maintenance work, but everything was very clean, the employees were friendly and nice, the diner attached was delicious, location was excellent and couldn't be beaten at the price.

I would expect a better hotel.

I've stayed at this hotel a few times on extended business trips... Mainly for the price and location. The rooms are clean but are showing their age. All times I've stayed were in the upstairs rooms, no complaints about noise. Rates are very reasonable for the hotel's location. You really do get what you paid for. It was affordable for a family in downtown Chicago but can't recommend it. It is an old building with some new upgrades but is definitely not clean (dust on everything!). The doors slam so hard you'll lose a finger if you're not careful and if your neighbors like to slam their doors in the middle of the night, you […] won't sleep well. They don't have fitted sheets and ours were queen beds and I think they used a double size flat sheet to tuck around the mattress so you can guess how well that stayed on at night - kind of gross to wake up on the mattress. When housekeeping made up the bed, they didn't even put the sheet all the way to the bottom and when we go into bed our feet were touching the bare mattress at that bottom of our bed and we had to remake the bed. Front desk ladies were really friendly. Location was great. Breakfast is NOT included regardless of what hotels.com staff tell you. My Stay in hotel was worth of money. Though the Room was not as expected but staff was really good and helpful. I would recommend this hotel if you are looking for budgeted hotel in downtown.

Very uncomfortable beds, very out of date.

This hotel had a fantastic locale however, the rooms were extremely dated, difficulty to control the temperature, and limited television channels. I was not impressed other than the location and the price.

It was a great price and I was surprise to see how nice the room was for that price.The little restaurant was very nice also. The only thing was it was a trick to have the heat be lower at night. . Otherwise we will stay there again.

Not the most impressive, but doesn't intend to be. For the price, it is quite convenient. The biggest convenience: free parking in the middle of a busy Chi-town sector.

good location and clean room - no frills - adequate for what we needed very small bathroom and toilet but it all worked fine

This is the second time I have stayed in the motel with my family when we drive down from Wisconsin to visit Chicago. You cannot beat the price, location and the free parking. The rooms are very clean and have some updates but there is a general '50s vibe you just have to decide to enjoy! Super location close to Michigan Avenue and the Brown Line and […] great bus lines. The exterior of the hotel does not look good. The rooms however were clean and the bed very comfortable. We had breakfast everyday at the adjoining restaurant where we were impressed with both the service and the food. There was a mix up on the reservation and while the night clerk could have been a bit friendlier the manager the next morning couldn't […] have been more accommodating.
