In Carlsbad blühen überall Butterblumen.

"Romantic getaway"
I live in SD but wanted to getaway from the norm.. booked the room on Hotel.com 50% off. What a cool hidden treasure ! The Resort is beautiful, staff friendly, food very good! The room was very nice, but the bed was awesome! Slept like a king!
"what a place"
This place was pretty amazing. I scored a nice deal from hotels.com and it seemed like it was way too nice for what I was paying. Beware the manditory hotel service charge when you arrive of about $20 (can't remember) but that came with access to wifi while there. Other than that, this place was very nice. the golf course there was beautiful.
"Much more than we expected"
Very NICE room and amenities. My only complaint is the cost of merchandise in the market and shops. A bottle of water is $6.95! Come on! Otherwise, a beautiful spot, great amenities, and very comfortable rooms.
great!

It was so nice to stay. The staffs were very kind and the room was cozy and clean. The spa and the restaurants were very wonderful. I will definitely stay again.

"Hairy Beds"
They are not big on changing the linens here. Even changed rooms and had to have them come bring some sheets that free of body hair. Gross. At the rate I paid I expect a clean room. Worst of it was they were really put out over the whole thing like it was my fault they are not up on changing the linens. I spend 100+ nights a year in a hotel and am very […] patient but hairy beds are the worst. Mehr
"Great for Kids, but Not for Tennis Fans"
For adults wishing to attend the Mercury Open, I would not recommend LaCosta at all. Read a lot of reviews and make your decision carefully. Remember that a huge percent of guests who stay here HAVE kids. It is a noisey children-filled hotel. If they added an "adult" wing near the soon-to-be adult pool, and it was quiet, I may reconsider that point. When […] we checked in, the check-in folks should have recommended that we make reservations for dinner. We were the last ones allowed into "Legends" because the better of the two restaraunts was already completely full (of locals with reservations). They really should give some deference to hotel guests, as we almost went without dinner. The rooms were nicely stylish, roomy and neat. Although, I did spot some trash under the night stand and a nickel in the very corner of the room. I notice that sort of thing. The extras are pricy, but the valet people rock. The staff -- all of them -- were very nice. Mehr
"Gorgeous"
The hotel is gorgeous, beautiful grounds, room was divine. My one complaint (and I think this will be remedied in their current remodel) is that I came to relax, and the pool was crowded with children - so I had to dodge them to swim in the pool, and it was pretty loud. Spa services are VERY pricey which is something you should checkout ahead of time […] if it is something you are looking for in a hotel Mehr
"Beautiful resort in Carlsbad"
Lots of activities for people of all ages, not all charged a fee. If you don't use the pricey valet parking, it is a hike to the self parking lots. Renovations were going on during high summer season. There is also a stiff daily resort fee that covers the newspaper, swimming pools, wi-fi, etc. Also, the doors that separate the bathroom from the sleeping […] area are louvered and not sound nor light proof. I've stayed in other comparable resorts that didn't have the daily fees or parking situation. Mehr
"Family place to be!"
Loved this hotel...it was great for a family get-away. The main pool area was perfect for little kids...and allowed us to actually sit back and relax a bit. One pool was super shallow...my 3 year old could stand fine in it. Also, there are lifeguards everywhere. The rooms are spacious and clean...but beware the barstool in the bathroom...it didn't have […] traction on the tile floor and slipped out from under me (and my children). The food is ok...resort food. But we loved ordering room service and enjoying a family breakfast on the balcony/patio with the patio fireplace on to keep us warm when it was chilly. They also have s'mores at night which was a fun treat. The video game lounge is lacking and not much fun for the older kids and the kids club is also just ok but at least there, they have counselors watching the kids and taking them out on mini-field trips around the resort. We'll be back again! Mehr
"Wow!"
As we drove into the La Costa, we said "wow, now this feels like a vacation hotel". It's actually more like a campus - huge! It's beautifully manicured and everyting from the fitness facility to the rooms to the restaurants are high end. I think La Costa's intention is that you have an experience more than a vacation. Outside of our room is a large […] courtyard (shared obvisoulsy) with hammoks and a 30 person hot tub - our daughter was calling it our 'back yard'. The swimming areas are phenomenal. The only negative thing I would say is that we ate at one of the restaurants (the one on the lower level) and it was just ok. If we come back to Carlsbad, we are most definitley staying here again. "La Costa Resort and Spa-too many kids in the pool"
The first room I was taken to had a view of bulldozers and excavators with the garden patio I requested covered with dirt from the hotel expansion. When I went to the main pool area, there were so many people/kids that it looked like it did not meet safety regulations. It looks like their Members Club families invade the hotel pool area. In the morning, […] 7:00am, loud blowers being used to clean the pool area before it opened, woke me up. The help was excellent, but La Costa has lost it's special getaway appeal. Mehr
"Four Star Service, Two Star Stay..."
The family and I went to Carlsbad for almost a week long vacation to enjoy the surrounding theme parks and a few relaxing/fun days at La Costa, but I’m afraid we were very disappointed with La Costa. On the days we were scheduled to be at the resort we found ourselves left in a lurch by pool and restaurant closures and an over abundance of corporate […] events. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon and requested an early check in…we were told our room was “near ready and it would be at most an hour” then given a pool key. Since it was only going to be about an hour we decided to have a late lunch instead then go to the pool after check in because we had small kids with us, only after lunch our room wasn’t ready so ultimately and quite delayed we ended up heading to the pool. By the time the four of us changed (in the public bathroom) and got pool side, looking forward to a few hours of fun in the kiddie pool and water play area, we were told we had less than 45 minutes to make use of the amenities as they were closing the pool for a private-corporate event. Are you kidding me? So back to the front desk, with two wet kids, luggage, etc…to find that at 5:30 ish our room was just now ready (an hour and a half past posted hotel check in time). At this point the valet led us (we followed in our car) out to the farthest section of rooms back near the entrance of the resort; it felt like no man’s land. It ended up being a nice, good-sized room, so we tried to make the best of it…and looked for the silver lining that there was a pool just outside of our French doors, but alas, with exception of Saturdays and Sundays, the bar at this pool was closed, no wait staff, no music, etc. (it felt like an apartment pool, not a resort). We tried very hard not to let this set a tone for the trip, but it was becoming unavoidable as the next day our pool was closed early in the day for yet another corporate event. This event was right outside our room with a DJ, PA system, video screens, approx Mehr
"Renovation not all it's cracked up to be"
The hotel grounds are beautiful, but the rooms are nothing special. We had the La Costa room, and while it was very spacious, the renovation factor was a little lacking. It seems as though they updated the fabrics, ie. bedspread and curtains, but the marble in the bathroom seemed old as well as the carpet. My husband and I werent' overly impressed. All […] in all, nice stay but probably wouldn't return. Mehr
"Cost saving"
It would have been cheaper to book directly from the website. I still had to pay extra fees at registration. What a disappointment.
"La Costa - Perfect for families"
Had a wonderful stay with our two kids (10 & 6). The grounds are beautiful and the pools and slides were perfect for the kids. Only drawback is the $14 margarita by the pool with tax and tip it comes out to $16 +

"Best Mother's Day"
I took my wife and 2 young boys here for Mother's Day. She and they love it - she liked the room layout and large bathroom, the comfortable bed and pillows and the layout of the resort. I wasn't able to get her a visit to the spa, but she was completely happy without one. The boys loved the water slide and game room. Me and my wife felt comfortable […] with there being lifeguards on duty and the safety of the complex that we were able to completely relax and enjoy the day at the pool without feeling like we had to keep close eyes on our children. "Wonderful Family Spot"
Went to Carlsbad for Legoland with a 3 and 6 year old. The Hotel was FANTASTIC. The pool very relaxing with all the life guards around, and SOOO much fun for all the ages. The rooms were very clear - towels thick and luxerious. My ONLY complaint is for as kid friendly as they are - and they are very kid firendly, gifts when we arrived, age appropriate […] free activities every day, day care center was extremely clean and lovely, for older kids a beautiful video game area... again the only complaint I had, and it's very minor, is where's the kids menu? If you ask they'll read off a litany of kid friendly meals, at reasonable prices, but there are no menus for kids anywhere. The adult items are too large of portions for children, so when you are first sitting in your room or at the restaurant you are looking at a menu thinking, so for breakfast is my 3 year old eating Eggs Benedict? or Eggs Florentine? Once you ask they have everything under control. Starbucks dependent? There is a Starbucks on the property!!! If you don't have kids, there are areas the kids are not allowed - they looked nice and serene but far far away ;-) Mehr
Staff was unfailingly friendly and helpful. The gardens were lovely, and there were plenty of seating areas both inside and out. Our rooms were spacious and well-equipped. The beds and pillows were quite comfortable. We also enjoyed the several pool and hot tub alternatives. The only slight complaint was that the service in the Blue Fire Grill was quite […] slow, and not very accurate either. Mehr
a world on its own. only wished i could have stayed longer!
"La Costa Carlsbsd"
The first room they offered us was terrible (two wings have not been upgraded yet). We were on our way out the door when another room (slight upgrade) became available and they gave it to us for the same rate, plus gave us a credit to spend at the hotel. The new room was fantastic (brand new renovation) and we had a fantastic time. Our 5 year old had […] a blast on the water slides and spent hours in the Kidz Camp, giving my wife and I a much needed rest to hang by the pool. Room service was fast and very good. We can't wait to go back. Mehr
"A Nightmare stay"
If you are looking for an upscale, quiet resort that is updated and fabulous, this is not the place for you. If you are looking for a rundown resort that has seen better days, horrible customer service, worn out rooms, and packed with families and children running everywhere, this is the place for you.
"We won't be back to La Costa (lotta) Resort"
We traveled with our children, 2 boys ages 5 and 8. Our first morning, we were awakened by the room's alarm clock at 6:30am and then again at 6:40am. You would think checking those clocks would be a part of the routine of cleaning the rooms. Amazingly, we got our kids to stay in bed and go back to sleep, as did we. Then at about 8-8:30, we were awakened […] again by the gardeners using the weed trimmer and lawn mower right outside our window! So much for sleeping in. The second night, we had neighbors with kids, and I think they had multiple friends in other rooms in the building as lots of kids were running and screaming all over the hallways and the room next door to us well into the night. Not a good nights sleep our second night either. We had absolutely no housekeeping the entire time we were there. Granted, we had our 'do not disturb' sign out there in the mornings, but that was it. The rest of the day was available to get it clean. We called the concierge desk one day to inquire about the kids club babysitting. We couldn't remember the name of the kids club, so we just used the term babysitting, and we were told they don't offer it there on the grounds, but they had a list of babysitting services we could try. We declined. Later, we found the kids club and discovered there IS babysitting on the grounds....too late for it now. The food there was very overpriced and not good at all. We would have been much better off eating off grounds. But we didn't because we had a daily resort credit we figured we should take advantage of. Last but not least was the rudeness of the people at the front desk. They flat out refused to honor the daily resort credit that we got from booking through hotels. They were rigid and uncompromising. They could have at least pretended they cared if you ever come back. Mehr

Great for the L.A. familia looking for a close weekend getaway.
"Could use a management review"
We chose La Costa because of the proximity to LegoLand, plus the hotel had water activities geared towards our kids which seemed nice. Our experience was great, but our friends were not so lucky. Upon checking in, their suite on the ground floor was musty which never went away and they probably should have changed the room. Upon unpacking, they found […] assorted condoms and a pocket rocket in the night stand next to the bible which immediately made the wife feel uncomfortable. The staff's customer service was just ok. There were 4 people behind the desk and no one checking in. Maybe a greeter at the door would have been nice to put a smile on your face. It was a one night stay which was fine, but I think we will try another place the next time we go to legoland. Mehr
"Great place for kids"
The place has nice pools but was very busy the weekend we visited. Great place for kids and families. Kids are more than welcome and happy there. Not only there are pools but also a game room. The food is OK.
"Great for Golf"
This is a great hotel if you want to play golf.. not so much for going to the beach. This hotel is close to the beach but not on the beach. When we were there, over Labor Day weekend, the pool was so crowded there was hardly space for anyone. Also, they will not allow friends of guests enter the pool unless you are a member of the La Costa Golf Club. […] This was tough, because we stayed at La Costa to visit friends in the area with our kids. Fairly expensive but the hotel is luxurious. The best part is that they will pick you up in a golf cart to take you from your room to your car.. which could be a great distance. Mehr
"Lots of Room, Great for the whole family"
We were there for the 4th of July Weekend with our two kids, ages 9 & 5. We all had a blast. There was plenty for the kids to do. From playing in the pool, going down the slides, out door movie and smores, arts and crafts. The food was excellent, but a bit pricey. Overall, it was a great experience and we will go back soon!

"La Costa"
Needs improvement, not very clean.Had to request additional cleaning. Grounds unkempt, and overall management is lacking.
"Minor Complaint"
Overall, staff was friendly. However found it odd and rude that front desk was a bit overly curious about the marital status of my companion during check in by asking, " are you Mrs. X?... oh, for the weekend only?... ha ha ha." Failed to see the relevance. Also, late check out charge of #35 per hour up to two hours seems to be a bit onerous.
"Wonderful Hotel"
This hotel was so much fun! 2 water slides, several pools and hot tubs, and friendly staff. Our spa room suite had 2 private pools that only people in these types of suites could use, and as we went on a Monday, it was like having a water park to ourselves. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a relaxing day where all of your needs […] are met. Mehr
