Das Hotel ist leider in einem nicht sehr ordentlichen Zustand. Es liegt direkt an einer Hauptstraße, hinter dem Hotel verlaufen Bahnlinien, die das Gebäude leicht erschüttern und für einen entsprechenden Lärmpegel sorgen. Das Frühstück besteht aus den einfachsten Zutaten, Toast, Bagels, Muffins, Donuts, Kaffee, Nektar. Es steht nur Plastikgeschirr zur […] Verfügung. Rein zum Schlafen (wenn auch nicht sehr tief) erfüllt es seinen Zweck. Darüber hinausgehender Komfort wird nicht geboten. Immerhin die Nähe zur Innenstadt spricht für das Hotel. Mehr

Für zwei Nächte wirklich gut und ausreichend!!

Das Hotel liegt recht weit abseits, es ist zwar eine Zugstation 10 Min entfernt, aber wenn du mitm Koffer ankommst ist es ziemlich weit und man muss vorm Hotel auch noch ne 6 spurige Strasse ueberqueren. Ziemlich gefaehrlich. Ich kam mir vor als wenn ich stoeren wuerde als ich eincheckete, denn er war immer am Telefon. Ich musste sogar fragen wo mein […] Zimmer ist. Das Zimmer war gross aber schon sehr alt und auch nicht wirklich sauber. Das Fruehstueck war ok, contiental breakfast. Ich wuerde es keinem weiter empfehlen. Mehr

für zwei Nächte ist das Hotel okay. Zimmer sind sauber und groß. Vorteil kostenloser Parkplatz, ca. 10 Minuten zur U-Bahn Station "New York Ave". Einschränkung:liegt an der Haupteinfallstraße nach Washington DC. Frühstück typisch Amerika....

It was functional,it served it's purpose, though not without inconveniences. The free internet did not work in my room, as it seemed too far away from the base, so I had to go on line in the lobby each day. The train yard adjacent to the rear of the hotel, took getting used to with trains rumbling in every 15 minutes and shaking the very ground on which […] we sat. For being pet friendly, there is no safe place to walk your dog. The room service did stay out as requested until we left as I do not like wasting energy having the linens and towels changed everyday. It is very convenient to DC. Mehr

The construction or pounding water pipes on night of 3/27/12 kept me awake and was very annoying. Other than that, my stay was acceptable.

Decent, clean, comfortable. Fine for a couple day business trip.

Hotels.com didn't give me what I asked for, but it's what I ended up with so.........HoJo on New York in DC WAS inexpensive in comparison to others but was in a questionable area (looked kinda slumy). Yet, the room was clean, had almost all needed conveniences, offered continental breakfast every morning, was within a short 10 minute walk to the Metro.....so […] it met my needs. Mehr

the hotel need a stop light to cross in front of the hotel. It need a better breakfast area for guess.

For a cheap stay, this is a good place. You will have to drive a good distance to see the National Mall. Will stay in the future

I stayed at this hotel because I was attending a conference at the Kellogg Conference center nearby and didn't want to spend big $ to stay at the conference hotel. Pluses: it's close to the Kellogg center. Parking is free and convenient -- if you're approaching by car from the North, you bypass many of the traffic headaches you could have if you got […] closer to town. I rented a car at BWI Airport and the drive was easy. The people at the front desk were pleasant to deal with. If you don't mind a little walk, you can get on the D.C. Metro and go to other neighborhoods with great dining and entertainment options such as Chinatown and Dupont Circle. Minus: It's near an active railyard so it's noisy. It's in a bad neighborhood -- this doesn't bother me too much but some people might not feel safe walking around. This is not a "great" hotel, but it's much more affordable than other options in the neighborhood Mehr

The hotel was comfortable, cheap and convenient to party spots in the area. However, the decor is dated and doesn't look the best in your pictures. :) the stay was comfortable, however.

overall that was a good experience. However, on the very last day (i stayed there for 5 days), i noticed one cockroach crawling around the bathroom... so, even if i can tell that the room was clean, those bugs must be around the hotel... I stayed there to attend a meeting conference and i found the location extremely convenient: you can easily walk […] to the nearest metro station. Mehr

Bad experience. Of course I looked for a cheap hotel, but the carpet was wet, one lamp was making lots of noise when on, remote did not work. It was very cold, so I tried to put on the heater, but the air that came hot smelled so bad, that I preferred to be cold. The bedding was really old, and the blankets smelly.

Very nice staff, good breakfast.

The staff was friendly and helpful. Wish they had a guest laundry on site. JB from Minnesota

The staff at the Howard Johnson was as helpful as possible and the room was very appropriate. However, the location is horrendous. Cabs can barely access the parking lot in the morning due to vehicle traffic on NY Ave. and there is nothing that staff can do about it. I was almost late to an interview because of this. In addition, do NOT stand on the […] street alone - there are many unpleasant individuals driving down the street at all times of day, making me question the security of the area. Not the hotel's fault, but it's still something to consider when travelling independently. Mehr

I don't know where to begin the warnings: shady clientelle, inconvenient neighborhood, bad wiring (don't touch the light switch!!!), trains going by all night, old and dirty. They were literally hosing out the room next to ours one morning, with water hoses and brooms - can only wonder what that means! Don't stay here if there is ANY other room available! […] Unfortunately, I could not find any other room in DC for the nights I needed. I had read the reviews, and knew what I was in for - and it really is as horrible as they say! On the up-side: we weren't killed in our sleep, I only touched the light switch once before I learned and there didn't seem to actually be bed bugs. We all lived through it, but next time I will try reserve ahead far enough to be sure I get something in Dupont Circle! Mehr

good location except for the train that is very noisy. good prices for young travellers with tight budget, but absolutely not recommended for couples and families..

Theres no sidewalk at this motel - you need to cab everywhere

I enjoyed my stay here quite a bit. The staff were friendly and the room was clean, spacious and with plenty of amenities.The only drawback was the walk to the metro - not terribly far but through a somewhat rough neighborhood. All in all it was definitely worth the price differential for options directly on the metro.

Hotel was fine enough, had a fridge which was good and the room was tidy, although we saw at least 2 cockroaches so I don't know how clean it was. We were there for only 2 nights and I would not reccomend it for any more than this. Also worst thing about the hotel is location, on the wrong side of a VERY busy road with no crossing, which meant unless […] you have a car its very difficult to walk anywhere - in fact when we arrived we had to pay a cab to take us literally across the road so that we didn't get run down trying to cross with our bags! Also once your across the road you have to walk through quite a dodgy area to get to the nearest metro station. Free breakfast was not bad, bagels and cereal, wouldnt ask for more. Mehr

Lots of construction, very busy road, anti pedestrian area, people were screaming and yelling at 4am outside the hotel area, i did not feel safe, unfortunately all hotels in the area were booked or else we would have changed hotels. it was one of the hottest days of the year and the pool didnt have water.

Not close to anything. Right on busy Hwy 50 and above the Amtrak rail yard. Very noisy, trucks and trains always rumbling by. Metro stop was a hike too. Good for families on the go, but not for single persons or pedestrians.

Howard Johnson express Inn in Washington DC @600 New York Ave NE. The expereince was so bad it almost ruined my holiday.The service was awful. My room phone did not work, and the front desk staff told me they would either fix it or give me a different room, yet nothing happend. However everynight they would tell me tomorrow it would be fine. I wasted […] half an hour while waiting for the front desk staff to solve the issue on the third night, only to find out the whole time he was calling 411! The room was okay, but the hallway was reaking smell of pee, and there was water from air conditioners everywhere. I would not recommend this place at all. Mehr

The pool is closed, its surroundings are dirty and with bad smell. Some rooms are poor mantained, I have to change twice, other are OK. Breakfast is very simple, no many choices. Breakfast room and front desk are in the same room. Location is good if you want to know Washington.

This hotel is on the wrong side of being a complete dump. It's in a bad area with not many surrounding restaurants (though it IS within a 10-15 minute walk of a metro station). At night, I regularly heard sirens and blaring televisions from other rooms. I didn't open the curtains much because I was worried that someone might see me ... but when I did, […] I noticed two distinct and hastily repaired bullet holes in the window. Also, I wasn't really interested in taking a swim in the pool on site and it was a good thing too, as the pool contained no water aside from the storm water that had collected in it along with other bits of trash contributed by other guests. Lastly, there were stairs leading down ... but those were roped off with yellow police tape. I'm assuming that hotel management was simply adding to the rest of the ambience. All in all, if you care about safety and cleanliness and peace of mind, DO NOT STAY HERE. On another note, the best feature of this hotel is the free Internet service that they provide. However, the speed is so slow that I just wished they had charged for a faster service. Mehr

This hotel was dirty Bees crawling through the crake on the base of the door. Ants all over the restroom. The receptionist who said he was a police officer was very rude to me, he has no name tag on. Even after I told him I cannot stay in a smoking room he insisted on not given me a room untill I went back to the smoked smelling room, to call the people […] that made the reservation. I was so glade that I only spent two nights. Mehr

If you are looking for just spending the night at a low priced hotel with close proximity to the tourist attractions, then this is a good option. Its close to the Metro Stations and merely a 10buck ride away from the happening town. If you are looking for comfort etc etc, stay away and dont waste your money.

Fir our purposes, location was very good. Staff were very courteous and efficient. Road and trains are a bit noisey.

Biggest mistake ever was to book a night in this hotel. I regret the night I stayed there. I asked for non-smoking room and I got the exact opposite !!!!!!! Biggest mistake ever!!!!!!!!

Great for the money, relatively close to downtown. Only problem is you'll have to walk ten minutes through shady neighborhood to closest subway station. I wouldn't take my girlfriend there if not motorized. If motorized it's quite a good deal.

For the money we paid for there's no complaint. Even got free fast internet, which is better than most high-end expensive hotels that charges an arm-and-leg!

The room was okay for our trip (3-day), not far from Howard University. The room was clean and the facilities worked. Easy to get to and from downtown area- driving. Public transportation seemed available, but not directly outside of the Inn. The rate are affordable,parking available. Downside: The train seem to travel directly under our room - earthquake! […] If you are walking....I DO NOT recommend you walk alone @ night- take a cab. Cab #'s available @ the Inn. One of the towels was not cleaned well, hotel staff replaced it immediately, no problem. Mehr

The room and especially the duvets were dirty. The noise from the road was extreme. I expected a Howard Johnson's "Hotel", not a "Motel". the complementary breakfast was the worse I've ever had. Overall I'd go out of my way tell everyone NOT to stay at THIS Howard Johnson's.
