Oakland Marriott City Center - Oakland

Staying at the Oakland Marriot City Center was very nice.....very clean....very pleasant....and relaxing....I was on the 10th floor and my view was just beautiful i could see the whole bay!!!! I was celebrating my birthday....and the view and the comfort bed with a glass of wine was a nite to remember.....So i give this hotel a +10!!!!

As a full hotel (vs. Courtyards) service was uninspired though the front desk staff was better. The hotel shows some age and needs updating. Ice machine on our floor was broken - we suspected it had been for at least a few days. Room was comfortable. Parking garage was convenient though a bit pricey for Oakland. check in is 3pm, and our room was not ready when we arrived at 4:30! Our schedule was tight and we planned to check in change and freshen up and go to our event for that evening. They said they would rush the room, but it was cutting it too close, so we had to change and freshen up in the public bathrooms! They made no consolidation about the inconvenience […] either. They only offered to check our bags at the front desk and when asked if they would take them to our rooms when the room was ready, they said "no, you have to pick them up at the front desk" Not impressed with the service at all, but overall the hotel is clean and comfortable. Was in Downtown Oakland for an overnight stay associated with business. I was pleased with everything about the Mariott City Center except the cost of the parking (valet) which I thought was a bit high despite the in/out privileges.

Stayed on saturday night of a 3 day weekend. Hotel was nice, room was large and comfortable. My only complaint would be that the staff were a bit cold. Never a hello as I walk from the enterance to my room.

very clean staf very friendly, area in down town oakland

the room was very spacious. the bed was extremely comfortable. We paid for the buffet in the morning and it was well worth it. The only thing i didnt like were the towels.. they were rough.. wish they would of been more softer. I left a comment for the hotel. Recently stayed overnight for a Widespread show at the Fox. Started with having to wait 65 minutes to check in to our room - we arrived an hour after check-in time, so there should have been no problem. Ended up getting a room with a view, which was nice. Room was very basic with some modern decor, bed was okay. The one thing that really bothered me […] was how they handled a 2am fire alarm...it ended up being a false alarm, but nobody came on the PA system and let people know it was safe to go back to there rooms or anything. Also, the elevator system cannot handle the crowds. Waited 20 minutes at one point to get up to room on 17th floor. Overall, okay for downtown location, but also, well, meh. Mehr

Our stay at this hotel was horrible. We had four rooms reserved, all supposed to be doubles. We arrived at 5:00 p.m. and none of our rooms were ready (check-in time was 3:00 p.m.). We waited 45 minutes. Three rooms were ready then, but not the fourth. Then, we couldn't get four doubles - three doubles and a king, and our party was a rowing team - not […] related. I asked the manager to comp us for something - parking, anything. The only thing she did was not charge us for a rollaway bed. We were told we could go to dinner and the rollaway bed would be in one of the rooms when we returned from dinner. The bed was not there when we returned and didn't arrive until 9:30 p.m. Then, one in the party asked for a razor. It was delivered at 11:30 p.m. Then, there was a fire alarm at 2:00 a.m. I know that's not the hotel's fault. But the clientele at the hotel was rowdy and messy. We had our yearly church convocation at this hotel. The hotel was very nice and the rooms really clean. The front desk staff really helpful and respectful. The only thing that we really didn't care for, was the outside surrounding. The people walking around outside. Many homeless people around the area. None entered the Hotel which we really felt safe […] inside the hotel. I would give this hotel an A++ for the service and the staff kindness and how clean it was. Mehr

very dissapointed about the parking incovenience. Marriot hotel should provide free parking for all guests!

As usual, my stay was comfortable and pleasant however, by general consensus, the bottled water in the room should have been complimentary - $3.75 was extreme. There should be more diversity in the dining menu. In conclusion, the waiters and waitresses were superb. My parents were pleased as well with their accommodations.

I was given a one-bed room after specifically calling in and talking to a hotels.com rep about having a two-bed room for myself and 3 others. I was told this was the only hotel in the city that had a 2-bed room left, so I gratefully booked the room. Upon my arrival, the hotel was completely booked and I was assigned a 1-bed room and was told that the […] rep had never made any specific requests for the type of room I would need. I was then told I would be charged $30 for a roll-a-way for the night (the hotel did not end up charging me) but I was disappointed when I called hotels.com to make the complaint and was told I would receive a call back in 5 minutes to resolve the issue, I was never called back. Ever. Very disappointed in Hotels.com and the way they DID NOT handle the issue, probably because it was my "free night" stay and they did not want to be bothered if they were not making money on the transaction. My family enjoyed this stop at the Oakland Marriott City Center. We arrived late and were greeted promptly and kindly by the receptionist. The accommodation was great. Check out was quick and easy.

My wife and i stayed at this hotel to attend the Pacific Sail Expo in nearby Jack London Square. The hotel was extremely well maintained, and within a short walk to the waterfront. Oakland is not a vacation spot. But, if you are in Oakland for a visit, this is an excellent choice.

the customer service here was great! The food great, and the want to help with anything from the staff was refreshing!

We came to the Bay area for a swim meet at Berkeley. We arrived around 9 AM, the hotel staff let us check in. We have time to refresh and rest before we went to the meet. The BART station is right outside the hotel. The Asian district is only two blocks away. Lots of restaurants there with good food. I did not even miss Starbucks.

THis hotel was very comfortable and quiet and I needed that especially after a very long road trip from San Diego. The beds were comfortable and I like the lighting at the night stands; there were separate little spots that illuminated each double bed in case both didn't want the light on (they were attached to the main light). The view Westward was […] absolutely fantastic. I could see across the Oakland Bay to the City of S.F. I ordered room service and found the meal just fine. Just about what I'd expect; but it was delivered in the time they quoted. There were two things that weren't great: It took way too long for room service to deliver a corkscrew and when she arrived, she waited for us to open the wine because she wanted it back. The other thing is that the mini fridge wasn't on when we arrived. Mehr

The marriott city center is a nice hotel. The lobby is fancy. The lady at the counter was very pleasant and accommodating. The room is nice. Widescreen HDTV, comfy bed & a window! That's the only let down with this hotel. It's just a room. No patios or balconies. You get an awesome view of the SF bay though.

Staff was friendly,room was awesome great view. No free parking but Bart was across the street! Will stay again when in Oakland! Go Raiders!

Standard Marriott style and offerings, recently updated with new carpeting, soft goods and furniture. Nothing spectacular, but then again, there's not much to work with in Oakland. It was good being right across the street from BART, which we used a few times to get to and from Alameda County Stadium (for the Raiders game) and to the airport t pick […] up the rental car. My only complaint is that there were way too many beggars/panhandlers outside the hotel. Mehr

The wireless internet is not free. In an age where wireless is available (at no cost) at coffee shops, restaurants, airports and even entire cities it is sad that a hotel chain with the prestige and reputation that Hyatt has one must pay for wireless access. And not only was there a charge but if a more advanced feature was desired the hotel required […] an additional fee. The feeling I was left with was that for half the cost at another hotel I could have had free wireless access. Also the swimming pool was drained… the hotel web site did not mention. Mehr

Loved the friendly staff. Great view, location, and newly refurbished room with huge view window. Room service meal was very good also. Overall a great stay. I can't emphasize enough how kind the staff was, really made the difference. I will return soon. Fun part of town for dinner, etc., all walkable.

Our only complaint is that the toilet was slow to flush.

The hotel is actually pretty great, but I would wait to stay there until all of the rooms have been renovated. Ours was very outdated and felt a little dingy. The lobby was nice and the guest services were fantastic. They show photographs of what the remodeled rooms look like...so again, wait till they're done or ask for one when you check in!

Have stayed at this hotel many times, always clean, quiet and the staff is very helpful and friendly. They have recently redone many of the floors, and updated their look, still clean and quiet. The views are amazing from the higher floors that face San Francisco. The only downside is the restaurant. Slow service, they don't seem to understand how to […] run an effective restaurant. Fortunately there are many excellent restaurants in the area. I will definitely stay at this hotel again. Make sure you eat at Le Chevel and Ratto's Deli, they are local gems! Mehr

This hotel was a Hyatt and is now a Marriott - Concierge and Bell Staff very helpful - housekeeping responded to request for a refrigerator within 10 minutes of my call. Room service food was good, temperature as expected and within the stated time - usualy 'early'. When I arrived the front desk staff at the counter was occupied and another person came […] forward and opened another station - that was great, no waiting. The BART is directly across the street (11th) that was very convenient to the SF Airport. Mehr

I paid the lower rate, considering my other option was the concierge service. I never go to extravagant on hotels when I visit San Francisco as I don't spend much time in them other than sleeping. This time around the Nike Women's Marathon was happening so I opted to stay in Oakland. This hotel had BART right across the street- literally, so it was […] perfect. No worries about walking around late at night to get to your hotel. No microwave or fridge was a disappointment, we ordered delivery the first night as we didn't want to spend $50 on room service food. No complaints, the shower head made a difference in the standard hotel room. All was to be expected from this Marriott. If you are looking for a room with room service, concierge, and lots of amenities- this is a great choice. We never spend time in our hotel to notice so can't review much of them. Mehr

Out standing hotel- excellent rate. Parking is expensive- even self-park but this is the norm for in town hotels-especially in the area.

We all slept well for the two nights that we booked. We have no complaints for the room, but we don't like to pay for parking. Everywhere you go in the bay area you have to pay to park.

Love this hotel, in-room dining, quietness. Needs in room wifi, however.
