We loved the location of our room with the pool and flowers outside our window. The room was spacious, tastefully decorated, extra seating comfortable and the cleaning services excellent. The stall shower bathroom was an extra amenity. The poolside restaurant was a pleasure of servic e and good food. When we came ebout 11:30am to check in, the young […] man at the desk put us in a room with a twin bed below what we had paid for. When I refused the room, we were told our room was not ready, we came later and recieved an excellent room. This was the only bad experience. Mehr

I really, really like this hotel. My room was beautiful -- there were pine trees right outside my window, and the gardens and a pond with a fountain right below. It was lovely to go to sleep listening to the sound of the water. I also had a wonderful swim in the heated pool. The staff was professional and courteous. Excellent bed, very comfortable. Bathroom needs more counter areas, impossible for 2 people to get ready at the same time.

Although we had a wedding in Palo Alto where everyone was staying walking distance from the Women's Club, i was lucky enough to find this Oasis! Once Kyle switched our room from overlooking the parking lot in the back to a view of the lagoon, we were the envy of the other wedding attendees! In fact, they came over to breakfast by the pool sunday! staff […] was always helpful and next time we will bring our dog! Also, having Trader Vics (the original is here and we hadn't been to it in 20 years, so not even sure if it is open) on site with 15% off made our Friday night dinner exceptional. Mehr

Our stay was exemplary. we were upgraded to the Executive Suites and overall it was a fabulous experience.

Pleasant welcome to what is in effect a large motel. We had a large quiet (away from busy highway) clean room. Went to pool side 'cafe' and asked if it was where continental breakfast was served - told yes, Sat at table and showed waitress booking info and asked she understood that price included continental breakfast - she answered yes. Served an indifferent […] continental breakfast ( weakest coffee ever and soggy toast) then presented with a bill ! Apparently the inclusive 'continental' breakfast is a cup of coffee and a muffin or doughnut in the reception area. No apology or expression of regret for misunderstanding from cafe or hotel staff (cafe apparently run as separate facility - no evidence that 'hotel' offered any catering of its own) Mehr

The purpose of our trip was college visits to Berkeley and Stanford. Dinah's Garden Cottages is very close to Stanford, so we booked two nights. The hotel is older, but well maintained, and our room was very comfortable and clean. I wasn't thrilled to be woken up at 7:00AM by the housekeeping staff yelling back and forth down the hallway to each other. […] Sound travels in these older hotels, and these women were LOUD. We had breakfast and lunch at the poolside cafe. The food was good, but the service was fairly slow. We had to leave for our Stanford tour, and couldn't get our server's attention to get the bill. Not a big deal, just expected the service to be a bit quicker. Dinner at Trader Vic's was excellent. The food was great, and the service was outstanding. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would definitely book with this hotel again. Mehr

This hotel is our favorite place to stay when we're near Stanford University. It's very reasonable and very comfortable. It's not the newest hotel, but the rooms are very nice, and there's always little things, like fruit and chocolate in the room. It's a little tropical heaven right in the middle of the Stanford area. Dinah's was quiet, comfortable, had nice ammenities, great bed, fantastic coffee in room, convenient to everything!!!!! Loved it.

This is a nice hotel on the grounds of Trader Vic's in Palo Alto. You get a 15% discount on dinner if you're staying at the hotel. Very nice.

Loved the "lagoon". Large nice room and good restaurant on premises. Chinese restaurant just across El Camino was also good. Will stay here again.

Unique property and great atmosphere

I was upgraded to an executive suite. This turned out to be the Railroad Baron one, and, boy, was it lavish and comfortable! My inner child very much enjoyed running the toy train that sped around the room on a track just below the ceiling. I wish I had had more time (and the right season) to enjoy the hotel's many amenities.

I was quite disappointed with my stay at this hotel. The deluxe room that I requested was not as pictured online. When we checked in I specifically asked if this was a nice remodeled room as pictured on the internet and was told YES. When we opened the door we were met with dated decor and it faced the parking lot and not the lagoon as pictured online. […] When i called the front desk i was told they could not move me because all of the other rooms were booked, then dead silence from the clerk. When i then requested to change room the following day(something I didn't really want to do because how inconvenient it is to move) but i really wanted an updated room and one that was nice looking as pictured and also since it was a special occasion for me and my husband. I was told another room would be available with the lagoon accessibility but i would have to call the next day. When i called the following morning around 10 I was asked did i call earlier that morning to confirm the room change?? HUH?? no i wasn't told i needed to call by a certain time and since checkin isnt until 3:00 what was the issue. The clerk told me she would have to see if she could find a room. After waiting an hour for the call my husband and i had decided not to move and that we would make the best of our remaining time at this hotel but would never stay again. Very disappointing!!!! One plus you get a 15% discount at Trader Vic's by showing them your room key. Mehr

Dinah's is a great and reasonable place to stay in palo alto. Most of the time I stay in a suite this was my first time in a room. Not as nice as the suites but totally serviceable. A few things to know about Dinah's--room heat shut off when no one is there so it is COLD when you walk in. In the room it is a wall unit (very noisy and set to a speed […] not a temp); the suites are thermostats. The bed in the room was not as comfortable as the suite and the building had no elevator had to carry bag up a flight of stairs. this hotel is so nice, that i feel like keeping it a secret....but they deserve the credit. It is one of the nicest small hotels in the world.

We had a great time except the people below us smoked liked chimneys so we couldnt have the door open to hear the beautiful koi pond and fountain

Great location that is an oasis in a busy area. Spacious room with very comfy beds... the on site breakfast place is a hidden jem. Looking forward to returning.

The Dinah hotel is affordable and the best bang for your buck. Tasteful with all the ammenities you would expect in a five star hote hotel at three and a half star price. The 'caveat emptor' is that each room is slightly diffent. This my second time staying there and going for a third. One only know what the next room will look like.

Great place. Our room had a patio which looked out over a lagoon. A Mallard pair visited us every morning. Worth every penny!

Dinah's has become my go to place to stay when I Palo Alto overnight. Suites are roomy, service is good, location is relatively convenient and cost is always very competitive. Better than the motels and on par with most of the standard hotels in the area but far less expensive. Few complaints are easy to address: room is always cold as heat is left […] off until you walk in. I get in late and takes a while to warm up. Parking below building 8 where I usually stay is tough as they park a very large van in there too making the last remaining space, if available, difficult to get in to. Mexican Suite I stayed in this time had a hole in the wall in the bathroom where the tile met the wall outside the shower. Just a little yucky. Mehr

The hotel is close to Stanford Univ and allows dogs for a nominal fee. Great hotel. Courteous staff Only dislikes were the water pressure in the shower and in house blow dryer...kinda of like a reverse vacuum!

We had a great room...very clean and comfortable, overlooking the gardens and the ponds with goldfish. We opened the door wall and could listen to the water flow all evening. The location was perfect...we will definitely be back.

Very convenient location in Palo Alto. Room was large and comfortable. The on site restaurant was great for breakfast with wonderful service! The gardens were a nice surprise and we will return when in area.

Great staff. Theme rooms are large with lots of comfort. highly recommend the breakfast!

Food: ok, not great; wimpy shower; otherwise nice.

The hotel was great !! I am looking forward to staying there again !! Super comfortable and very peaceful setting. The Trader Vics resturant however was a different story. The food was great.The service 2 days in a row was the worst service I have had in a long time. I would not waste my time going there again.The servers were rude and inattentative. […] Really too bad. Mehr

fantastic value!!!

We stayed here a couple of weekends ago. It was supposed to be a romantic getaway for my boyfriend and me, but turned out to be a relaxing bday weekend with my mom. Our room had a vaulted ceiling and the landscaping was beautiful. We walked to coldstone and ikea was a 15 min drive. It was perfect for us.

great room and very good service.

It was so relaxing to listen to the water and see bamboo outside our unbelivably large Java suite room. Buttons to turn on the fireplace and shut the curtains were a nice touch too. The shower had 5 different heads you could turn on which was cool too. Only problem was the mattress was very, very soft (my husband described it being like a marshmallow). […] The discount to eat at the Trader Vic's restaurant for hotel guests was nice too and the dinner I had there was amazing! Best macademia crusted Mahi Mahi I've ever had! Mehr

I just stayed one night at the end of my holidays at this nice place as I was flying out the next day. Nevertheless is was a really good choice to have a nice and relaxing evening - I can also recommend their restaurant btw. The staff was very friendly and the room was in perfect condition and one really felt like at home.
