Great boutique hotel in the heart of Palm Springs, walking distance to downtown. Staff were excellent: polite and courteous. A couple of minor things. The first floor rear suites in the back building, while quiet, had a sense of being subterranean. There was no real promised view from the patio of the mountains. Ask for the second floor instead. Also, […] design seemed to come before practicality: there were no towel bars in the bathroom to hang wet towels to dry after showering. Finally, the walls looked like they had recently been patched with drywall compound but only painted with primer. Made things look a little tired and not kept up. Very inviting! Warm welcome, beautiful hotel, good service, comfy elegant rooms! Not to mention the excellent cocktails and food!!

Great location, very new money luxury, missing some of the touches of a truly great hotel. Attracts a hipster kid crowd for pool parties over weekends and school breaks. Totally acceptable stay, just not outstanding.

Enjoyed the Viceroy very much. A very helpful Ashely checked us in to room 523. It was great for both my 7 year old son and my husband. However, the TV in the bedroom did not work and having a maintenance man working in the room at bedtime was not exactly what I was hoping for. After some time, he left to get a part. He came back and worked some more […] but was unable to fix it until the next day because the problem was outside. I WAS hoping for a glass of wine, but there was no red wine in the room as the menu stated. I went to the store the next day and bought a bottle to have in the room. The next day the smoke alarm started to chirp. After being startled a few times I figured it out! Batteries were changed right away. The Grounds were beautiful. Not sure why grass would be cut before 7am on a Friday morning right outside our room. On two days of our stay we had early morning machines right outside. Wouldn't early week be a better time to landscape? We liked 2 pool areas. After a day of shopping we looked forward to relaxing at the pool and were told 2 of the 3 pools were closed due to an event. The main pool with diners all around was not what we were hoping so we went back to the room. Besides a couple of maintenance issues and bad timing for a swim, we enjoyed The Viceroy. sabrina Mehr

I had no idea that they play music from 7 am to 11 pm. Also all the pool guest and restaurant are very very loud. If you would like to get no sleep then stay here.

We enjoyed a pleasant stay at the Viceroy. Staff was very professional and went out of their way to be helpful. As noted by other reviewers the $30. daily Resort Fee is misleading. When you check in you are told the parking, morning coffee, newspaper are included. At checkout you find the fee for these items. Our main issue with the room was the POOR […] lighting. Bedside you have hanging lanterns with low watt bulbs, making reading impossible. On the wall facing the bed were sconces that provided nothing but atmosphere. In the bathroom over the sink was a single bulb fixture with a low watt bulb providing very little light for make up or shaving. All said, given the location we would likely return. Mehr

Beautiful property with superbly groomed grounds. Nice pools and bar and restaurant. Room had no drawere and there was space where shelves or drawers could be installed inside of the large closet. Great location for walking everywhere. Nice find for a good price.

We were satisfied with the Viceroy. Despite having read some recent negative reviews, we found the hotel overall to be fun, comfortable, and perfectly located. The distinctive interior design, free bikes and accommodating front desk staff were a plus, and the pool area is stylish and lovely, surrounded by beautiful citrus trees. The hotel has a lot […] of potential, which makes some of the design and decorating flaws all the more frustrating (low hanging & off balance chandelier in room, erratic wifi, patio light that stayed on all night with no ability to shut it off). Nonetheless, on balance, a cool spot where we would stay again (get a studio room, it has more than enough space for 2 people). Mehr

If they renovated the rooms, this would be a really great place to stay. Pool area and service are fantastic. Rooms however are pretty poor - holes in the shower curtains and chipped furniture.

I was looking forward to staying at The Viceroy as my friend had reported good things. What I found is that the hotel is run-down, over-priced and dated. Our room had a tiny shower of the sort you would find in a camper (plastic, no shelf for soap, rounded corners, dirty drain) and the bathroom floors were stained orange in multple places. The water […] was unpredictable going from scalding to lukewarm and back again throughout the course of the shower. The towels had dark stains on them and the door to our room was accessed through an antechamber that had cleaning supplies for housekeeping littered about (linens, vacuum cleaner, buckets, cupboard doors open). The hotel provides coffee in the morning but they ran out of half and half. The covers on the lounge chairs and couches by the pools were also stained and dirty. No one asked about our stay when we checked out early. It was a sad stay in a hotel which appears to have at once been quite fine. The lack of attention to detail was unexpected for a hotel of The Viceroy's caliber. I would not recommended the hotel for Palm Springs visitors. Mehr

We stayed here in early December. The property is beautiful, the staff provided excellent service. We had breakfast at the restaurant and the food was ok, not great. Lot's of restaurants within walking distance. We would certainly stay here again.

This a very old hotel that was dressed up by designers. But the structure is still very outdated, the rooms very small and it has a mildew smell. A few black stripes and fancy art pieces does not justify the premium rate.

came on girl getaway...one night turned into 2. we never wanted to leave. We were immediately struck by how nice everyone treated us....great service...great drinks...beautiful room... easy walk to shops and restaurants....the perfect hotel in every way. I will NEVER stay anywhere else when I come to Palm Springs.

Even though my girlfriend & i stayed one night, it was a pleasant & relaxing stay. The staff was very nice & helpful....our room was very clean & comfortable. The hotel is near alot of restuarants & shops from a walking distance....The price of the hotel is not cheap but it is definitely worth spending. We got a great room for almost half the price. We would never have been able to stay in such a lush place. Truly felt pampered. We got their late, so the restaurant was closed, however we were able to have an appetizer poolside, which was great. Food and drinks are a bit pricey so make sure you keep an eye out for that. overall, we really enjoyed our stay. its a very nice hotel with a cool, retro-ish vibe. pools are nice...room was big and comfy. my big gripe is the resort fee. i just think its ridiculous. they should include that in the base price of the hotel or not charge people and let them pick what they want to use like 99% of all other hotels. it just seems […] shady to me and i don't like shady businesses.... bottomline: be more upfront with your customers and get rid of the resort fee. Wanna feel like you transported back in time to the glory days of Palm Springs? You'll feel like Frank Sinatra or Marilyn Monroe when your poolside at the Viceroy. The decor is Versace-ish, with beds by the pool and hanging lights in bird cages falling from the trees. Whatever music play list they rotate by the pool captures cool and relax at the same […] time. This place is hip, but not snobby. I love the intamacy of it. The Viceroy cheeseburger is one of my top burger choices in the world! All this, and it is located right off the strip so you can walk to all the restaurants and shops. If they sold time shares I would buy one! Mehr

The Viceroy may be my favorite hotel of all time. So chic and so private. The food is spectacular, the service excellent, and the atmosphere is shear heaven. I always recommend it to friends.

This hotel is the perfect spot for a low key, full service vacation!

This is cool and stylie hotel. The Viceroy is a great property for a long weekend escape with someone special or with a group of friends. Make sure to hit the local hiking trails and premium outlets in Cabazon too.

Overall fantastic hotel. Room + Service amazing. Service at the restaurant not great.

Hotel advertises that pools are open 24 hours, and they are not.

Arrived early to enjoy the afternoon sun by the pool while check-in was scheduled at 3:00 pm (the usual). They told us to store our luggage in our car (104F outside temp) so our chilled champagne has lost it's chill and we were unable to change into poolside attire. Finally after 3 and 1/2 hours of ice water and ice tea we were escorted to our room […] at 5:00 PM.. Not even the slightest apology, or hospitality make-up. Our son was shown to his room at 3:30 and got comp'ed a bottle of French Champagne. The grounds are nicely maintained and the bellhop staff were great. Overall the stay was excellent, and we do plan to stay there again. 4.5 stars out of 5 is about right. Mehr

I recently stayed here with my husband for his 50th birthday. Everything exceeded our expectations! Privacy, luxury, amazing food...we ditched all our other plans and opted to stay poolside for most of our trip. The mojitos are the best! I highly recommend this to anyone wanting to pamper themselves.

The Viceroy never disappoints. Everything from the room to the restaurant to the service is always great. Thanks for such a great weekend!!

There was extremely limited parking outside the hotel, and the valet was MIA which wasn't too big of a deal at first. However, once we actually tried to check in we were notified that there would be nobody available to show us to our room, so were given a map and just sent on our way! Which was kind of abrupt and unexpected, but fine, whatever. We found […] our room, bu then had to unload all our own luggage, as the valet was still MIA. We ended up parking our car behind the property, closest to our room. We weren't told that the access gates were permanently locked after 6:30pm ( fire hazard??) and were told we had to walk the entire perimeter of the property to access our car. We had to explain to the front desk how this was problematic and had to ask for a valet to come provide us access to our car. The valet was apologetic and promised to be there to take the car when we returned, but again, wasn't. He appeared after several minutes of waiting and going in to the front lobby to inquire. The hotel itself is pret adorable,VERY small, smaller than pictured by A LOT, and the more basic rooms are not as cozy and bright as advertised, but if you have a stand alone room it's probably ideal. The basic rooms are basically converted old motel rooms, hallways with dim dirty fixtures, stairs with torn carpeting, Saltillo tile floors painted white to try and update. It's a valiant effort, but if you're looking for a great place to stay in Palm SPrings, head to the Parker. Mehr

This place rocks!!!

Frame of mind can be the most defining factor of a love/hate stay... I was in the frame of mind to expect a gorgeous ab-fab hotel with several pools and a chill stay. Instead, we had to wait over an hour for our room which turned out to be a horrible dank ground floor room (tarted up but cheaply-carpeted low-ceilinged motel room) with ONLY one small […] window that didn't open. No outdoor space at all, or access other than solid door to corridor. If you opened the curtain to let any light into the room, everyone on the path outside could see everything. Shower was worst home depot formed plastic, which one 5'3" 120 lb woman could barely move in (no tub).None of the light/bright/airy greatness that is Palm Springs. Annoying cell-phone talking LA poseurs at the pool, which was like a small bathtub; tables right up against the pool so you'd feel like an idiot/spectacle if you actually dared to swim. Checked out after 1 night and went to The Horizon. Bright, airy, open, casual, chill, and fabulously designed, with a big pool that people swam in. Now THAT's Palm Springs. Final note: Viceroy staff were cool and very understanding. They must know they work in a lame environment. :( Mehr

This hotel was very chic, room was nice very white! We had breakfast each morning and the food was good. We did not eat in the evenings there because there was so many restaurants in the area. We found Palm Springs very expensive. The service in the hotel was first class and the staff attentive.

I have stayed at the Viceroy before and love this hotel but the staff did not wait on us by the pool and when they did after asking 3 times, it took 30-45 min. to get a drink. Also rooms were not cleaned till very late and pool was filthy. There were 5 staff standing around, 1 of them could have gotten a drink or skimmed the pool. Front desk man was […] very rude! Mehr

We've been going to the Viceroy for 7 years & continue to return on account of the lovely & comfortable accommodations & the incredible service.

My stay was terrible. When I arrived and saw how beautiful the hotel was, I was psyched to be staying in such a beautiful place. However, the beauty of the rooms and grounds did not carry through to comfort, quiet or service. The walls of the room were so thin that I could hear the gentleman next door come back from a night out, turn on his music and […] a modest volume. I don't think it was his fault, it was just ludicrous how I could hear him each time he took a step w/out shoes on or cleared his throat. In the morning, construction on the hotel began at 730am. I heard the guy next door go outside and ask them to stop and they did for about 8 minutes before resuming. Cleaning services started vacuuming the room on the other side of the stair well at 8am, but again, paper thin walls so it was incredibly disruptive to my attempt at sleeping in... I decided to just go ahead and get up so I jumped in the shower and after 5 mins the hot water cut out. I went from super stoked and impressed upon arrival to very disappointed. There were two other people complaining specifically about noise to the front desk upon my departure. I believe they were offered a free breakfast (the least they could do). I on the other hand received an apology and a "Thanks for the feedback." Oh well. Guess I'll just post a negative review and hope that anyone who enjoys sleep takes this pretty seriously. Mehr

I'm sure this used to be a 4 star hotel at one point - I'm guessing in the early 1990's as it seems nothing has been updated since then. The rooms are rundown and the staff are indifferent at best. The whole experience was rather depressing. Stay anywhere else but here.

It was great to have a two bedroom bungalow (with kitchen, fireplace and small private yard) for travel with wife, baby and parents.
