Well appointed hotel with a good breakfast . The room was ok and if they had provided twin beds as requested then it would have been even better . The room was also like a sauna and although they supplied a fan I would not like to visit in the summer.

Old uncomfortable bed. Old T.V that frequently lost the signal. Tap in bathroom broken. Bath mouldy, shower curtain and mat grubby. Cups still had remains of previous guests' drinks in them

This was the first time we had stayed at the Copthorne and were delighted with both the accommodation and friendliness / helpfulness of staff. We had a room overlooking the river which was comfortable and clean, room service was fast, breakfast very good. We shall certainly use the hotel again for a combination of concert at the Sage and relaxing s […] tay. Mehr

The location was superb with lovely views down the Tyne. The room had the smallest double bed I have slept in for a long time. We are both of average height and found it cramped. The room was easily big enough for a bigger bed. The buffet style breakfast was dissappointing. At a hotel of this calibre I was looking forward to a chef cooked, on demand […] breakfast not railway waiting room standard. The eggs and bacon had been standing too long, there was no option for poached or boiled eggs and nothing very exciting or unusual. Great hotel but shame that we booked well in advance so we could request a room on a particular floor and, when we got there, we were told no rooms were available on that floor. Annoying.

Rooms: + The size, bed, furniture in generel, very clean, bathtub and good shower - You have to close the bathroom door when you take a shower or else the fire alarm might start, the room can be a little cold. Service: + Helpful and smiling service from all staff Location + Fantastic view. Just on the riverbank between to bridges - what more do you […] need. - It is a little (very little) isolated from the fun parts of the city. You have to walk 5-15 minutes depending on where you want to go. Food: + Very good breakfast and there is tea, coffee, hot chocolate and cockies in the rooms. Would definitely come back again Mehr

Perfect location for The Sage, friendly, helpful staff and fantastic views of the river from the restaurant, bar and hotel room. Our room was ready for decoration, especially the bathroom, but it would not put me off staying again. Super breakfast!

The booking had not been passed on or not auctioned properly but they got us a room and threw in free breakfast for the mess up. Room was tidy but heating left the room quite cold. Could do with a little updating but this is currently in progress.

Hotel great, just felt that the condition of the changing rooms in the Spa suite let it down a bit.

ok. A bit dated but clean. I would prefer a teapot on the table at breakfast instead of having to get the waiter for a top up.

Lovely large room overlooking the river. Apparently will be re=decorated soon which will be good. Nice staff. Good Breakfast but booked DBB and the dinners were at best average.

lots to see and do close by th the copthorne, the sage, the baltic, the millennium bridge and of course the night life. all a must see, and a great base to see it from.

tired outdated and dull

Stayed there for 3 nights, couldn't fault the service.Rooms overlook the River Tyne which was nice.It is about 10mins walk to the city centre & nearest bars. Car parking is £5 night.Would stay here again.

Spacious but very warm room even with air con on all night. Furniture in room was a little jaded. Clean and tidy. Staff polite. Good parking rates

The rate paid was acceptable for the standard of room we got but if you include dinner and breakfast, it becomes rather expensive. We chose to eat out at less than half the cost. The main drawback with this hotel is if you have very sensitive hearing , you may hear trains crossing the nearby bridges (although we didn't find it a problem). The car parking […] fee even at a reduced rate adds to the cost. Otherwise, an enjoyable and comfortable stay in a fairly up-market hotel, centrally located overlooking the Tyne and it's many bridges. Mehr

The hotel is in a nice location. I'd say the rooms need modernising but overall it was perfectly acceptable.

Hotel was cold, worn out and expensive. When I complaine that they didn't meet the Hotels.Com description the upgraded me to a suite....which was cold, worn out and awful. I checked out early because it was awful and found a much nicer 5* nearby at a cheaper rate....(not on Hotels.com incidentally)!

I booked to twin rooms for 4 guys going away for a 40th birthday celebration. We arrived and were given 2 double rooms. When we complained we were told we were being condasending and the duty manager threatened not to speak to us. After calming down a bit we were given 2 inferior twin rooms. No apologies or any kind of goodwill gesture for taking the […] inferior rooms. We were told it was the fault of Hotels.com and that twin rooms are only requests and cannot be guaranteed. This is appaling service from a so called 4* hotel. Anyway, once we got to the rooms, the air conditioning was not working. This was on the really hot weekend at the end of September, so you can imagine how hot and stuffy our room was. Having said that, the service for the rest of the stay was really good, the breakfast was excellent and the location ideal for seeing central Newcastle. As others have mentioned, the hotel does feel very dated and does not feel like a 4* hotel, more like a 3*. I won't be recommending to family and friends. Overall it was ok, but only ok. Mehr

Very friendly and helpful staff. Excellect location by the river Tyne and walking distance to the city centre. Convenient onsite parking at a discounted rate. Lovely, spacious room with views over the river. Highly recommended.

This is a nice hotel with good comfort levels in the rooms and the hotel itself.. Food and drink is however overpriced, along with the cost of the stay - Nice, but not fantastic. I would stay here again if it were cheaper, I gave it a shot this time to see if it was worth the extra cost and I would say it wasn't really.. the rooms were quite small, […] but very well equipped and the staff were very polite. we stayed here and had lovely time took our little boy with us who was 5mths at time the hotel provided travel cot n extra bedding, our breakfst was 5star will deffo return here nxt time we stay in newcastle..... easy to find and parking onsite :))

The bathroom fittings were not great and I had great difficulty turning off one tap while another dripped all the time. But that's nothing compared to the staff at the Copthorne who were so friendly and helpful. I arrived drenched to the skin in the middle of a storm and two hours before check in time. But they got me a room immediately and didn't blink […] at the trail of water I left across their lobby - just as a wedding reception was about to begin, Thank you Copthorne. Mehr

We stayed there for the second time in July 2011. This is a decent 4 star hotel with friendly staff. The hotel backs on to the quayside and you can walk out the back door from the foyer onto the promenade. The river is magnificent here and you can see the Tyne Bridge as you step out. Keep in mind that getting into town is a walk up a steep hill, but […] taxis are very cheap and you can get anywhere in town for a fiver. Mehr

Clean, good location, great view over river

This hotel is in a great location on the quayside and walking distance into town. The reception is impressive. Unfortunately the reception staff are not as sharp as they might be with service. Room and view lovelt, decor ok. Leisure facilities and beauty treatments excellent .

great for the arena as its a 10min walk, also close to all the quayside bars etc, only moan is no or VERY poor if any internet access in rooms and you have to pay for wifi thats only really any good in the bar/lounge. 15 min walk from city shops-uphill lol

Lovely hotel, great room overlooking the river. Only problem was I booked a twin room and was given a double on check-in. I was advised that a twin was only a request and not a guarantee by hotels.com??? After telling us there was nothing they could do (not ideal for 2 friends!!) they finally split the beds in the disabled room. But overall a great […] place to stay and a fab location Mehr

2nd time staying here and it wont be the last - staff are very friendly and go out of there was to make your stay a good one. hotel location is great with lovely views over the tyne. breakfast is a must - good choice of food hot / cold evening meal was nice too .. yes you can get cheaper hotels but this one for me in newcastle is far the best..

The hotel was very clean and the room we had was excellent,spacious,clean and a very large bed with crisp white bed linnen.We had a drink and a sandwich in the bar at first we thought the food was expensive until it arrived the portion size was very generous and my husband would definately recommend the steak sandwich. The staff were very efficient,helpful […] and friendly even at 11.45pm when we asked for more milk for our room.nothing was a problem. The only problem we encountered was the swimming pool,which was in great need of updating and there were broken loungers,stains on the ceiling,tiles were grubby and on the stairs there was what looked like mould.The ladies changing rooms were disgusting dirty,smelly,shower curtains hanging off,you also had to lift the door as you opened and closed it when using the sauna steam rooms as they were scraping along the floor.However we learnt this had nothing to do with the hotel as the leisure part had been bought by a franchise and it was upto them to maintain these facilities. We had breakfast at the hotel and there was a lot options to choose from and apart from a slight mix up with our order which was rectified immediately the breakfast was very nice and we were offered top ups for our coffee quite a few times by very nice,cheerful staff. My husband had the added bonus as the band we saw the night before were actually in the resteraunt having breakfast at the same time as us. I would definately recommend this hotel to other people and would definately stay there again,however would give leisure facilities a miss until they had been addressed. well done millenium hotels. The hotel was directly on the quayside we had a great view of the Tyne and some of the bridges,outside the hotel a few minutes walk away were a few bars and resteraunts. Brilliant stay. Very friendly bubbly staff at check in, check out & at breakfast, really felt they made a nice fuss. No complaints & the hotel is not in need of updating. Would highly recommend.

I wasn't all that impressed with this hotel. It desperately needs up dating if it still wants to brag about it's 4* status. Wifi has to be used in the lobby, not in the rooms and is charged by the hour, not what I was expecting when I read 'WiFi available'. The food was a big greasy mess, quantity does not equal quality and the breakfast would have […] been very pricey for a standard buffet where I would have only had 2 pieces of toast, so I chose not to eat there for breakfast. Room was tired and dated, the bed was slanted but very soft which is good if you like that sort of thing. I think the hotel used to be lovely and the views from the room are quite nice. The staff in the restaurant were great, really courteous. All in all it could be a lot better though. Mehr

Located on the bank on the river and very close to town centre - all within walking distance. Decent pool, gym, steam room (sauna was out of service). Rooms are clean, but bathrooms look bit tired by now. The Metro bridge bit too close and if you are in a river- view room you'll definetely be woken up by the trains ion the morning. Service good, nice […] food in the restaurant. Full breakfast not so, (usually overcooked), meeting lady tried to convince everyone their breakfast was not included in the bill. Mehr

This hotel is fantastic. The main entrance is grand and simply took our breath away. The staff were all more than helpful and polite. The room was amazing with a lovely view of the river. Evening meal was delicious. well cooked and looked great! This hotel is a must, we will be returning very soon!

The rooms do have fine views, although ours was stuffy and the a/c made little difference. Not as central as we expected, quite a climb involved (if carrying luggage) & taxis charging £4 to £8 per trip- so can work out more expensive than expected. Bar food good but service very casual.

Probably the best location of all the quayside hotels in Newcastle and all the roooms have stunning views of the Tyne bridges. Pity the air conditioning in the room was ineffective but the staff produced a fan rapidly for us. The bar is the pits. The service is poor (we waited 20 mins for a coffee and gave up in the end) and the "Musak" is too loud […] and tuneless. So-called jazz of the most self indulgant kind full of random notes and no tunes. It is not a place to stay in and relax. We ate in the many places nearby, which were better value. Despite this, it is a good place to stay and explore the area. Don't pay full price but choose some bargain rates. At full rooom price it is exorbidant, but good value if you get "specials" Mehr

the hotel has a great location, the bar and entrance looks good and attractive. But when we get to the rooms, the decors looks 20 years old, the old kettle, the old tv and a bed that you could find in a 2 stars. No test in decoration. we got a good price but I dont think the hotel should charge any more for a room until they been refreshed and modernised. […] Lots of space in rooms waisted. Mehr

The Copthorne Hotel Newcastle is a superbly well located hotel, right on the quayside. Easy parking and exactly in the right place. Lovely pool and health club, good restaurant, nothing to fault in my opion, for a city break.

A clean and well equipped hotel within easy reach of the centre of Newcastle. The food and service provided at the bar are friendly and efficient and the menu gives a good choice for those on a budget.
