This is an old motel with room doors that open to dark, sketchy exposed walkways which are dirty and cluttered with cigarette butts. There were people yelling at each other in the room across from me (they weren't arguing about Shakespeare!), and groups of young men wandering/loitering around the parking lot at night. My non-smoking room stunk like […] cigarettes. It backs up to an even shady-er hotel and a rough looking apartment complex. The staff was okay, and I did get a night's sleep there. It was kind of surprising since the Red Roof Inn is on a strip where there are several other hotels, which are much more new/clean/safe feeling. Unless you're really desperate for somewhere to stay, look around a little. You can do better. Mehr

It's not fancy, but it met all my needs and was a comfortable, clean, safe place to spend the night. Breakfast was good. I would've liked a bit more fruit than just a bowl of apples. Coffee was out, but when I mentioned it to the front desk, she quickly swapped out the carafe and got me fresh coffee. Speaking of that, the front desk clerk (I failed […] to get her name) was very friendly, funny and professional. Mehr

the staff were extremely accommadating. We had to change rooms do to poor internet service but was not a problem. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Although a coffee machine in the rooms would be most helpful. over all a good stay. Our first room was next to the interstate and had alot of truck noise, but did not hinder sleep.

Room was great for the very low price. Some questionable tenants. When asked where we could get a nightcap, we were told us that the area was questionable. Went to recommended lounge and music and crowd was much too loud. Went back to the room.

For the most part the stay was decent, it was mainly the area that wasn't liked as well. The people were not courtious to others staying there and some comments made by associates at the front desk were not professional at all. After leaving the hotel I had accidently left my dress from the wedding HANGING UP in the bathroom and when I went back out […] there to get it it was balled up in a trash bag wrinkled up. I was not happy with that at all because the dress was not cheap and it was hanging for a reason I do not see the point of taking it off the hanger and throwing it in a bag when the housekeeper could have easily taken it down to the front desk as was. They did not notify me that my dress was left I had to call out there myself to make sure that it was taken care of. Mehr

While the room was OK the building and surroundings leave a lot to be desired.

Bed wasn't made completely. No coffee machine. Skin head down the hall was guarding a room w/an open door, folks partying loudly inside. Thugs were stationed at the end of the hallway. I was very uncomfortable w/the situation.Went down to talk w/the 2 young ladies @the desk, who admitted they didn't feel safe, wouldn't leave the desk. Said it was ok […] if I wanted to ck. out. Went across the street to a nice, competitively priced Economy Inn & Suites & got a nice room. Bad scene @the Red Roof Inn. Apparently mgmnt. isn't concerned w/controlling the situation. Stay away! We were traveling with our daughters and definitely would NOT recommend families staying in this hotel. Our non-smoking room on a non-smoking floor reeked of smoke. Called to request new room but non were available. Breakfast was barely adequate and the neighborhood was questionable.

The first room I was sent to the air conditioner didn't work. I immediately called the desk and was asked if I wanted to change rooms. In 85+ degree weather, gee, a no brainer! I went to the desk to get a new room assignment and the two girls were so scattered they didn't know what rooms had been cleaned or what was actually open. I was given a key […] after I let them know that I had running to do and wouldn't be back for a couple of hours. I arrived to a decent room; however, the next morning at 10:00 am (the stated check out time was 12 noon) I was exiting the shower to knocking on my door. Imagine my surprise when it was a couple wanting to have the room for an early arrival. Shortly after I received an accusatory call from the front desk wondering who I was and why I was in that room!!! Needless to say I promptly went to the front desk and let them know my feelings about my experience and particularly the staff that clearly didn't know what they were doing. I would NEVER stay at this hotel again! None of the above speaks to the robbery at the gas station/quick mart directly in front of my room the night before prompting 8 squad cars, etc.. Mehr

Not only did they give me keys that did not work, they gave me keys for the wrong room, then tried to blame ME for the error! Lots of dark corners in the halls and outside made me very uncomfortable even walking to and from me car, and I am not exactly a small weakling. I can't imagine any woman feeling safe there. People hanging out in the hallways […] (inside and open air) drinking and making out. Even people just hanging out in the poorly lit parking lot, at midnight! I will never stay here again, and recommend you not either. Mehr

The hotel room was great - clean, aesthetically pleasing. May of the aspects of the hotel seemed like they were almost there, but not quite. The AC worked well, but there was no AC in the hallways, so it was a bit stuffy anywhere outside of the rooms. We arrived at 5pm after the check in time, but a room wasn't ready. Fortunately, we were flexible […] and able to come back later. We called for an extra pillow, but they didn't have any and couldn't deliver one until after 11pm. We got a pillow, but we just had to wait an hour and a half for it. There was a breakfast, but it was only waffles (and had a looooong line). Considering what we paid for our room, we rolled with it. The location was great but the cleanliness of the room was aweful..I literally had to go and get clean sheets and change them. The bathroom was not cleaned either! This is the first time i have ever had to do this.

We stayed at this hotel. It was very cheap!! the soap dish was falling off the shower wall. The room was dirty, The bedspreads had dried old blood on them, The wall had something sprayed on it and up the picture,the shower still had previous occupants hair on the shower curtain. There was hair in the bathroom sink. When we opened the curtains, we found […] cups on the windowsill. I had felt something crawling on my neck, a couple of times. Thought was my wifes hair. Come to find out was a spider in the bed, Which I left Dead on a napkin for the cleaning lady. The blinds in the hallway were dirty and dusty. Overall cleanliness was not good once you left the main lobby. Pool was amazing!! Breakfast was a joke in the morning!! No waffle mix to make waffles, no coffee, no fruit. We were at breakfast at 8:30. We got what we paid for Cheap!!! Mehr

Sufficiently clean, a few hairs here and there, linen has seen better days. Air-con was very loud, it seems the entire A/C unit is inside the room instead of the loud half being outside, had to turn it off to hear the TV. If you're a light sleeper bring ear plugs if you want to sleep with the A/C on. The door to the bathroom was difficult to open an […] close, not exactly sure if the door or the floor was at fault, but the bottom of the door was flush with some of the tiles thus forcing you to really push/pull to move it over said tiles. The toilet also flushed itself very loudly every so often so I kept that door closed. I booked a non-smoking room, my room was on the third floor, didn't smell of smoke, but did have a bit of a funky smell that I noticed briefly after entering the room. I suspect the carpet was the source of the smell, wish they just ripped out all the carpets and used a more hygienic flooring option. Overall, for the price I paid I was satisfied with the room. When we got in, the hotel lobby was sweltering as their air conditioning was busted on a very hot and humid July day. Thankfully, our individual room was supposed to have A/C. After having to practically bust down the door to get it to open because the hinges were not fastened properly and it was door was stuck on the frame, we get into a hot room. […] The A/C wasn't working properly in this room either! So, we go downstairs and they assign us a new room on the other side of the building. We get into the room and while the A/C works, the room smelled musty. I will never stay at this hotel again. We only had to stay one night but for what we paid it was fine for the over night. The lobby and breakfeast area were nice, clean and updated. The room was clean but the beds seemed worn.

Other than the fact there were other business in the are within walking distances, such as gas station, conveince stores, restraunts, and a VFW it made the stay alittle more enjoyable. The rooms were in fair condition, alot of mold/mildew in the window frames, coolling/ heating control panel was broken and fell off inivent unit. General conditon of […] interior of motel was in dire need of maintence, paint, leakinf roofs in breakfast area, complimentary breakfast left alot to be desired....menu very small, coffee was undrinkable just overall poor management. I do not understand the good reviews that this place is getting!!!! WE were in the area visiting my sister; since we would be spending 99% of our time at her house we thought this would be a great way to save some money! . I will say that I was not expecting mold in the bathroom, the worlds worst pillows or the weird oder in the halls. The pool had […] a large piece that was duck taped up (yes I said they duck taped the pool!) The worst part of this place is it's not family friendly! The other guests were ALL smoking and drinking around the pool and things that come with that. We stayed 5 nights but only tried to use the pool twice because of this. Their breakfast is the worst hotel breakfast I have ever had! The worst part was no coffee pots in the room! After a nights sleep on their beds you need coffe and not 3 floors down! After we paid for breakfast and paid to go to the public pool it would have been cheeper to go to a nicer hotel. Bottom line this is not a family friendly clean place to stay. Mehr

We were in town to see my sister; knowing that we would be spending all of our awake time at her house we tried to save some money so we took a chance with this hotel. There was mold growing in the bathroom, stains on the bedding, the worlds worst pillows and I really don't think that you can call what they served breakfast. The pool had a large broken […] section that they duck taped up and put a wet floor sign by. There were so many people smoking and drinking by the pool; I didn't want my kids around that. And they rented it out to a group for a kids birthday party; not a big deal but try explaining that to a 4 year old. By the time we paid for breakfast 3 out of 4 mornings and we paid to go to a public pool (no smoking or drinking) it would have been cheeper to stay at a nicer hotel. Did I tell you that they did not have coffee pots in the room! Normaly that's not that big of a deal but after a night with with their bedding you NEED coffee; and not 3 floors away! I will say that the staff was friendly and the housekeeper was very helpful and did a great job. Mehr

The bed was firm yet giving. The pillows, though only 2, three would have been better, were very comfortable for sleeping. Hotel located in a great area & just off of the interstate made going & coming from the Center very easy. Had a great stay there.

The building is a little on the dated side, but it was clean. I didnt really see many scary people either for being a really cheap hotel. Has a small outdoor pool that seemed well kept but I didnt use it. Breakfast was pretty much just toast or waffles with coffee or juice. I was staying one night and looking for a basic hotel room which would be clean and safe. This property fit the bill perfectly. Friendly staff, very clean rooms. Everything was in perfect working order. My daughter was with me and she agreed it was perfect for our stay.

This hotel was disgusting. It wreaked of cigarette smoke... it caters to truck drivers. Light bulbs were burned out along the walkway to my room, a lot of dark corners and questionable individuals... intimidating to say the least. When I inspected my bed sheets I found a pubic hair on the sheets; another two pubic hairs in the bathroom sink and a bloody […] glob of sputum stuck to the bottom of the toilet bowl. The telephone was dirty and on the inside of the bathroom door it looked like fecal matter or a very dirty hand print. Three of the four towels and two of the four washclothes appeared to have fecal stains on them. The furniture in the room was filthy. Every time I tried to go talk with the desk clerk she was busy with other guests or other guests were lingering in the lobby. I was approached by a rather attractive "lady" in the parking lot of which whose "company" I respecfully declined. It was digusting, I was frightened, and I will NEVER stay at another Red Roof Inn EVER! Mehr

If you intend to spend just a few hours, it's tolerable and for the price, it's worth it. The nice feature is that you need your card to go from the lobby to your floor so there is a built in safety. It is probably better than similarly priced properties and it has quick access to the highway. But it's a low budget hotel and it's reflected in the maintenance […] of the hotel. We wanted a spot with a pool and hot tub. the water temperature of both were IDEAL!!! I would stay there again for that reason and the manager was SO nice.

The front desk staff was excellent! The room was neat but the carpet was musty! If it wasn't for the staff, the stay would've been dissatisfying!

We were greeted by a very friendly staff person when we walked in. She took care of our reservation and let us know everything we needed to know. When checking out the staff was just as friendly. They were always smiling and had friendly voices. We were in town for graduation at Kirkwood and then the nursing pinning ceremony on the next day.

Needed room in Iowa City during graduation weekend and Big 10 track meet. Rooms were unavailable or overpriced. Found this alternative about 20-25 minutes away at a very good rate and it turned out well. Hotel is a little worn but they keep it up well. My very picky wife was very pleased with the comfort of the bed. The breakfast was spartan with only […] waffles, toast and apples offered. The drinks are orange and apple juice, although coffee is available 24 hrs a day. All the staff were accomodating and friendly. Would definitely stay here again. Mehr

The room was clean, the bed was comfortable, the staff was friendly, the rate was terrifice - what more could you ask for? If you are looking for a no frills comfortable stay, this is the place.

oVERALL THE HOTEL WAS VERY GOOD . tHERE WERE SOME AREA S THAT NEEDED UPDATING. tHE ROOMS WERE EXCELLENT.

The clerks at night were very friendly but did not know where the rooms were located. AM clerks were responsible for the meager breakfast that only included a waffle maker or toast. Then they ran out of coffee and did not respond when I asked them to make more. Overall, it's a good value for the money and our dog was very satisfied with the grassy […] areas. Mehr

The service was good and friendly, the room clean and bright, everything worked. On the third floor we had inside access, lower floors have outside doors, and the place was secure. Convenience store & gas station next door, Wendy's and Perkins Pancakes within a block. The elevator door frame could use a little paint, but the elevator, plumbing, lighting, […] TV, internet, and HVAC worked perfectly and mattress was comfy. Breakfast is all carbohydrates. We were very pleased with our stay. We stayed 2 days over the New Year. The staff was very accomodating and the room was clean and comfortable. We would definitly stay here again. Easy access to the intestate. The area is well lit and safe.

Everything went exactly as hoped for a no-frills overnight stay situation. Easy and fast check-in with no conflicts with booking or rates despite arrival late in evening. Non-smoking as advertised. Upon arriving at Red Roof, i pulled down the sheets of the bed to check that it was clean before going to bed. There were multiple dried stains. Called front desk and the woman working there immediately came up and changed absolutely everything. It was an oversight on housekeeping's part and front desk assured it would not happen again.
