lovely hotel,very clean & comfortable lovely food & so conveniently situated near station,metro & buses. some noisy guests during the night but staff sorted this out. only drawback the evening menu was the same for our whole stay (a week)

cannot fault this hotel at all. would definatelty stay here again.

I've stayed at this hotel a few times as I do business in Newcastle from time to time. The location is perfect, staff are always helpful and general cleanliness of the hotel is always good. Food is a bit pricey but if you are on a budget there are plenty of cafe and Wetherspoon types within a 2 min walk. The bed was not the most comfortable (right hand […] side was sunken). This was not a problem as I was on my own (I slept on the left side of the bed) but had I been with my wife it would have grated. Mehr

My husband and I stayed in the Royal Station Hotel for one night on 10.03.12. On stepping into the receotion area, it was like stepping back in time - in a good way. All the original features had been retained, and very well maintained. The carpet that leads up to reception was immaculate, considering the amount of traffic that must pass through the […] hotel. Our room (109) was lovely. Very spacious, with a lovely big bathroom, facing the street side. The bath robes and slippers which were supplied were a lovely touch. Our view out of the room was that of a pub (Head of Steam). Some people would complain about the noise, but really there was no issue. It was good to watch all the 'young ones' enjoying themselves. we complained about the noise twice whilst staying at the hotel, the reply from the receptionist.... It is Newcastle. well that was helpful. im far from a light sleeper, im in the Airforce and have slept in all sorts of locations. the room was clean and tidy, and location was good, close to all the Gay and straight bars. and 100 yards from the Train […] Station. We recently spent two nights here as part of a whirlwind tour of the city, seeing friends and exploring Newcastle. As we had travelled by train, the proximity to the station was really convenient - and the hotel was also really well situated for the shopping areas and attractions of the quayside. It was easy to explore further afield as the Metro station […] was just outside the hotel. Our double room, although clean and fairly well-equipped, was tiny. It was difficult moving around the room due to lack of space and we kept bumping into things and each other. One side of the bed had no reading light, and it was not possible to switch on the one bedside light independently of the main light. Overall, the cramped conditions didn't spoil our experience of Newcastle or the hotel - and it must be said the staff were incredibly helpful and friendly - however, the room was overpriced considering its failings. An excellent place to stay. The interior is very beautiful. Affordable restaurant. Very clean room. Conveniently located and so close to the Train station. Looking forward to come back!

Delightful old hotel. Clean with friendly staff. However trains start very early in morning, you get a max of 5 hours sleep. That was meant be on the quiet non road part of the hotel. great pity- more double glazing?

I stay quite a lot in Newcastle and will definitely stay here again and will recommend it to my friends. The reason we stayed here was because we were travelling to Edinburgh the following day of our stay but in the future we will stay anytime we visit Newcastle as it is only a short distance from all the shops, restaurants etc. and I am very pleased […] we discovered this hotel. We have stayed in numerous hotels in Newcastle but this hotel surpasses them all and I cannot understand why is it only rated 3 star. In both my and my husbands opinion it should be rated higher. and loud. you can hear when people get out of the bar and street traffic. There is an elevator but you stil have stairs to get to your room.

Location after cannot. be beaten .after that it was a little pricey for the product .

My second stay at this hotel and I was looking forward to it. If I had had this room the first time I would have been less enthusiastic. Not a bad room, but a small twin as opposed to the large double I had last time. It will still be my hotel of choice next time, but I now understand why the place has mixed reviews.

I was very happy with my recent stay at the Station Hotel. The reception staff are always helpful and swift to process the check in details. I stayed in the same room as the week before and was overall very happy. The only small issue I had was the room being cold on arrival and it felt like it was about an hour before I warmed up. The Royal Station Hotel is a Victorian jewel but thoroughly modernised and in a central position only yards for the Central Station and Metro and easy walking distance from shopping centres and Theatre . It is worth a visit just to view the magnificent crystal chandeliers in the reception hall

It is hard to believe that the hotel is so close to the station and yet so quiet and peaceful. The standard is consistently high and the staff are very friendly.

the staff are nice and its just a nice hotel worth the money wish i could of stayed there longer

Visited the hotel with partner and 2 year old child. We stayed in room 245 on 2nd floor. Negatives: - Not much light in the room. - Room itself was clean apart from the basin in the toilet, which looked like it hadn't been cleaned in ages. - Our bed sheets were not changed even though they had stain where our daughter spilled her drink. - Too many stairs […] if you have a young family or otherwise have mobility problems. There are lifts but we still had to use stairs to access our room when we got to our floor - Room service menu very limited. Only continental breakfast can be served in the rooms. For full English breakfast you have to go into the restaurant Positives: - Free water and chocolate in the mini fridge. - Free wi-fi - Train station is just a minute's walk away. - Complimentary slippers, dressing gowns, clean towels Found the staff in the bar and restaurant very friendly and accomodating with our sometimes over-active 2 year old. Staff at the reception were not as friendly but ok. We did not use the swimming pool, etc. so cannot comment on that but it looked clean when we went to look. Overall, I would recommend the hotel for easy access to a lot of access to various attractions in the city. We did not experience the noise as mentioned in other reviews. . Mehr

The hotel is in fantastic location with gym centre. I especially like the pool, steam room and sauna. However, the pool is closed at 5:30 on Saturday. It's also a little bit noisy because it's in the central station. There is some work going on outside and that's why it's so noisy.

The hotel is right next to train station, but not too noisy at all. WiFi not working on the first night but fixed from day 2.

Located right next to the train station so really central and convenient. Old hotel and the floorboards creak so you will hear boards creaking away as people walk. Rooms have lovely high ceilings, but the arrangement of rooms is a labyrinth and I had to walk up and down stairs to get to my room. Great central location from which to discover Newcastle and surrounding areas. Nice friendly hotel, comfortable accomodation and very helpful staff.

Brilliant very clean and very helpful staff. Small but good pool.

Extremely convenient for rail travel and good location for city centre shops, restaurants, clubs, etc. Very nice, old fashioned railway hotel. Friendly staff, good amenities. Would definitely stay again.

If you're arriving by train into Newcastle, this hotel is ideal as you don't even need to cross a road to get there! Build in the 1860s, this hotel combines a regal styling to a very high standard with all the modern amenities you'd expect from a hotel these days. The pool and fitness suite were particularly outstanding, really enjoyed an early morning […] swim at no extra cost, and I had the pool to myself! I would recommend this hotel to anyone. Mehr

I stayed here as I was going to a concert. Hotel staff very friendly room clean and comfortable and pool and sauna excellent hotel is being upgraded so work was going on but this did not interfere with my stay would strongly recommend this hotel for its central location and its helpful staff

It'/s near the train. As soon as you exit the train station, go right and walk a little way, its there.

Comfortable hotel in a lovely Victorian building. All appears to have recently been redecorated and the public rooms seem to a good standard. Our superior room was a reasonable size with a huge well appointed bathroom. Very good location for all city centre shopping and visitor attractions. Didn't dine in - there are myriad restaurants and eating places […] within a few minutes of the hotel. We were at the rear of the hotel so view was poor (but it is a rail station hotel) and we didn't have any disturbance from the adjacent rail traffic. Very good value stay and will definitely return as we enjoyed the city which has a great atmosphere and friendly local people. Mehr

Stayed many times now at this hotel and it is fantastic! Great staff, food and accommodation. Parking is quite steep though @ 15 per day. should be subsidised by the Hotel.

This hotel is a great choice of hotel, great location in the middle of newcastle close to all the amenities which makes it a perfect choice. The room was great and well kept, modern furniture. The staff seemed unhappy to serve, however did their job. Parking free is a great plus to this hotel. Enjoyed the stay greatly!

I went there thinking this might be a B&B. The hotel is just out of my expectation! It's like a mansion or castle. It's right in the central station of the city centre. The hotel is nice and clean. I like the decoration of the hotel. There is free parking and free broadband! The room is clean and nice. It's like a star hotel! It's also very near to […] the China town. Good central location. Room was fine. Seemed recently redecorated but they forgot to repaint the doors. Service not so good. Had breakfast two mornings. Promised tea or coffee would be brought to my table. Never came.

Fantastic! Made our weekend.

Granted it wasn't the hotel's fault that the road out side was being resurfaced (starting at 12am!!!) but it was so very noisy in my room. I called the front desk and was not offered much in the way of help, they must have been aware that this would be going on that night but no one told me. The room was pretty drab, but clean, free access to wifi was […] a bonus. I had a terrible nights sleep and I wasn't asked how my stay was on departure...i wonder why they didn't ask? Good if you want to be right in the centre of Newcastle, bad if you actually want to sleep. Mehr
