"terrible!"
This Hotel claimed to be kid friendly however the arcade was very small and extremely out dated and dirty. The gaming area had about 5 slot machines that were out of service. It's not a casino. More of a hotel. Beds were horribly uncomfortable. Would not stay there again.
"Faux casino"
This place is outdated and is not a traditional casino. Not a good value for the money. It is close to other casinos though and things to do. It is lake front and has a gorgeous view.
"Cal Neva Hotel"
CalNeva had it's prime during the era of the Rat Pack. Rooms are dated with old furniture, TV and no internet. Availability of air conditioning and heat is dependant on the outside air temperature. The view of the lake was worth the degraded condition of the hotel. Gaming is restricted to electronic machines and the Round bar toted in advertising is […] just a "Bar". Gambling can be done up the street at the other casinos. Mehr
"Expensive for no reason"
Very hard to find, especially if arriving at night. Did not give us our king bed, instead gave us two full size beds because of availability issues. Paid $70 for a 2 entree dinner, $20 for fries and buffalo wings as a snack from their restaurant (food was pretty good, but not worth the money). Also had to wait 40 minutes each time (even for the snacks!) Staff […] was very stern and non-friendly. Overall very expensive place......and they aren't even a casino! No table games, only slot machines! Don't waste your time. Mehr
"Served its purpose"
We were staying there to attend a wedding down the road. Room dated, but very clean and bathroom was spotless. Lobby smells like disenfectant, and looks more like a rec room, certainly not a casino. For a quick nite stay, it served its purpose and the price was right.
"Wow, What a dump"
The place is really dated. The bed/pillows are supremly uncomfortable....but were clean. The hallways are dingy and gross. The carpet is aqua but the glass ceiling adds a special touch of class. To be fair most of the hotels are dated in north shore, if you can't get into a resort...and this is your last resort....stay home.
"Cal Neva Resort- on beautiful Lake Tahoe"
The Cal Neva is a bit past her prime- looks tastefully shabby- but the folks are helpful, the location is primo. The rooms look dated but clean. And it's an excellent value.
"Wow, this is at Lake Tahoe?"
What happened to the famous Cal Neva? this should be the jewel of North Shore. great location, lots of history but it was probably the worst hotel i have ever stayed at. The pool could be awesome but its not. there is the state line literally running right thru it which was cool but the water temp was even cooler, and the surface surrounding the pool […] was like walking on a gravel road. The hot tub is old and run down with a complicated entry system that is out dated. The surround bungalows attract a seedy crowd that are up all night. DO NOT STAY HERE. Stay across the street at the Biltmore! Mehr
Outdated and unclean
"Room chairs"
Our stay at your hotel was great, but you need to add a comfortable chair or lounger to watch TV or just to relax besides laying in bed. Our room had 2 chairs used for dining or do office work, but not comfortable to relax nor watch TV or a newspaper.
"Glory Days are past, but still a decent place"
This old casino, once owned by Frank Sinatra, has definitely seen better days, but is still a nice place to stay. The pool is not heated and COLD. But it's right on the state line and fun to swim from California to Nevada. The room was fine, I had originally requested a king bed and they first put me in a room with two doubles but quickly switched to […] a king room when I asked. The room was clean, TV and wifi worked fine, but there were very few electrical outlets available for my computer. Furniture was kind of dated and chipped in a couple places, but the view of the lake was great. Circle bar was nice, and they offer a tour showing you some of the hidden tunnels underneath the hotel daily that was pretty interesting. Spa services also available although I didn't try them. The hot tub was nice but they had to send a guy downstairs to unlock it for me. Overall I was pretty happy here and would stay here again IF I could get another good rate on the room. Mehr

"Not to bad..."
I've done alot of travelling..and for the $$ this place is not too bad. The bar and food were great.no live casino tables though. The rooms are (as per mine) very out dated. I had a 70s style tv in my room (but it did have a remote at least)..and outdated fixtures in the room. My biggest gripe is with the a/c. It calculates and runs off of the ambient […] temp from the outside. It has NO CONTROLS that can disseminate between the interior and exterior temps. I like to sleep in a really cool environment, and when i got back to my room from my daily ventures, the room was not cool..however as the night cooled down (into the 50s) my room cooled with it. Otherwise..the views are great..the parking areas are huge and well kept..and the "bang for the buck" is pretty good. I'd stay here again..just in cooler weather. Mehr
"Cal Neva, Sham Casino"
I had previously stayed here around 6 years ago, and really enjoyed it and the casino. Now, even after reserving a king sized bed room, we were given a room with 2 twins. I refused to take the room, and they offered a handicapped room with no toilet door. I refused. I finally received a pet suite, which was fine, and clean. The hotel is a disaster. […] The casino is gone. Total sham, a real tragedy. Don't stay here. Mehr
"Calneva lake tahoe"
This hotel is dirty and out dated! The front desk charged our credit card for an additional night.

Pleasantly surprised by the comfort of the bed....but the room we had was on the main floor immediately inside from the casino and it was extremely noisy. Casino is almost non-existant. Resort is really nostalgic. Excellent for pricing. Would definitely stay here again.
"beautiful location"
staff was excellent, hotel is dated- room was large and comfortable, though old and in need of refurbishment. Only real problem was hall noise into room- very loud!
I had a wonderful time in Lake Tahoe. The hotel staff were friendly, helpful and courteous. Cal Neva is certainly a hotel with lots of character. Loved the history of the hotel and it was a good value.
"Nostalgia"
Nostalgia probably its best attribute. Relaxing, even if a bit seedy by today's standards.
needs alot of maintenance great view and location run down

"Cal-Neva"
The facility is really run down. Doesnt look like there has been any maintenace work done for years. Certain areas smell moldy. Its not really a Casino but hotel only. I would prefer a Motel 6
"At the Cal-Neva Resort"
I loved this place. What a great value. I had a very clean, Premium Lake View Room. I loved the Sinatra-era feeling of the place. Gardens are nicely planted and lawns very green. Would definitely go back

Run down. Needs to be redone. Poor casino. Shower and bathroom . Depressing atmosphere.
"Hasn't been updated since Frank Sinatra stayed"
I'll start with the deal killer. The shower goes from hot to cold. I couldn't get it to level out no matter what I tried. Cottage cheese ceilings are everywhere except where there are crooked mirror tile ceilings. The furniture in the lobby is so tired and stained that I would have a hard time getting Salvation Army to pick it up if I donated it for […] free. Peeling 1960s wallpaper is everywhere. Stains on the carpet and bedspreads, loose outlets and scratched up furniture makes it even more offensive. The restaurant should be avoided at all cost. The menu is bland and although they have a somewhat decent view, it doesn't compensate for the service. We walked out after waiting for 20 minutes to order even thought the restaurant was not busy and the manager and hostess walked past us many times. The only redeeming quality for this hotel is the location. If you can get anything else close to Incline Village then go there instead. Except for the top two floors, there have been no renovations since Frank Sinatra stayed here decades ago. Mehr

"Budget conscience, not what it used to be"
I have to say the room was comfortable, but the elevator (there are 2) sometimes worked, sometimes did not. The view from the 8th floor was breathtaking. The so called casino had 16 machines, and if you won anything you had to wait for an attendant to come to get paid (usually the bartender). The beach advertised is about a 1/4 mile walk down the steep […] hill - not good if not climitized to the altitude, and if you got there past 10a.m. it was crowded, small and you could take your chances WADING down the lake edge to private property. I was alone and found a small unassuming place to sun, swim, and read (what I wanted to do), but as time passed and by 12 it was very populated with other squatters, the sheriff came and told us to leave (very embarrasing). It was a steep walk back up to the hotel. The pool is nice, but very small, and I am a more natural water person. If you want a nice beach go to Kings Beach (about 2 miles south of the hotel at 8.00 to park, and a little dirty) or Sand Harbor - gorgeous for 13.00/car, very clean and well maintained, but gets crowded). Gaming is up the hill at Crystal Bay Club, Hotel Biltmore, or Jim Kelley's Nugget or Incline Village at the Hyatt. CalNeva claims they are gettng a new casino, but I think money would be better spent making sure the elevators work properly. For the price it was very nice, the view alone was worth it, just beautiful, but request an upper floor unit. When I arrived there was a very rowdy group screaming in the halls, and causing alot of trouble. The staff offered to accommodate me in the cabin, so they did try to please the guests. Overall, I would stay again as a base to explore the beauty of the area. With Lake Tahoe, you can't go wrong, it is so very pretty. I am not hard to please on vacation as I am on my own which in and of itself is lovely, so just drinking in the area made it worth it and I would definitely stay again! Mehr
"Cal-Neva"
I hadn't stayed here in 10 years. It's gone way downhill. Somebody with some $$ really needs to buy the place and fix it up. It's got all the potential in the world. Plus, the owners ripped out the casino. Who loses money on a casino ? Proof positive of their incompetence. Still, it was well worth the small money I paid for it. They're getting less […] than all the cheesy motels in N Lake now. It's just sad really. Mehr

"Cal Neva Resort , Incline village, NV"
Great location by Lake Tahoe , friendly ,we loved it Thanks
"Cal Neva"
A very nice Old Hotel resort that shows its age
"Hotel"
Good place to stay.
"wrong bed"
My wife and i were looking for a romantic night away. They ran out of King Size Beds and gave us two double beds instead.
"Abusive bartender...."
Hotel was alright. Price was good, room clean, pool closed....Problem with Bartender.Bartender was unfriendly and verbally abusive.I understand this is Nevada and a bar is an adult venue, but this was the hotel lobby.....Security was called along with the floor manager who diffused the situation. But keep in mind this is a service industry and it only […] takes one bad seed to leave a bad taste... I will not go back. This hotel does not put their guests comfort first. To add insult to injury...hotel double charged credit card.It has been cleared up.ten day wait to have money credited back to account...DON"T GO!! Mehr
"Great deal!"
I needed a last minute place, and was pleasantly surprised at Cal Neva! Clearly an older place (Frank Sinatra's digs!) but well taken care of and clean. The room was gigantic and the bed was very comfortable. I would most definitely come back to Cal Neva Resort next time I am in the area!
"Cal-Neva Resort not what it once was...."
The Cal Neva Resort is probably worth what you pay for given the historic connection of the hotel to Frank Sinatra and proximity to the Lake. However, the hotel rooms share sounds with all around and their is no way to control the temperature of the room because the heat only comes on when the outside temperature of the daytime is cold which does not […] account for the moutain nights. The room was clean, but the room could use some replaced furniture and bedding that have seen better days. Mehr
"good value"
This was a one night business trip, good value, beds were fine, air conditioner was noisy , the windows did NOT have screens, which attracted bugs if I were to read or watch the television. The lack of screens on the open windows was inconvenient. Breakfast was good. However the very good location, on the lack and convenience to the business meeting […] location made it a very good value. Mehr
"Old..."
I learned from this getaway to book on the south shore. The Hotel was very old... kinda ran down. In the room there were NO plugs for accessories of any sort. They were under-staffed. For dinner on Friday night we waited for like an hour and a half for our food, which wasn't prepared correctly. My fish was still frozen on the inside! Ended up getting […] comp'd for the whole meal. There wasn't much to do there. The pool was emptied, the beach wasn't a beach at all, only 10 slot machines which were taken. Age group under 40 book at South Shore. This place was mainly 40 and over... made us feel out of place. Mehr

"Nostolgic sad state of affairs ..."
This hotel is so sad! It's lost all its grandeur of the past. There is no focus in the hotel's decor. It's run down and in need of a complete remodel. The clientele it attracts are a young rough and tumble crowd. Please bring it back to the days of old!
"Fun!"
We had a ball! So much history and the view was fantastic!
"CalNeva Resort"
Upgraded to a lakeview room, nice & quiet!
"Bait and switch"
First of all if you are into history this is a cool place. We payed extra to get a lake view room which was described the top three floors of the hotel. We ended up on the 4th fool looking out at the trees. It a nice location it just that when you pay extra you should get what you paid for. The hotel is old late 50's early 60's style. Don't pay ext […] ra! Mehr

The best thing about the stay were the people, everyone was great. The place is a little run down and in need of referbishing, it is such a land mark for the area. That reason it is self made it a nice place to stay. The mattressis pretty firm. My hips are still sore to this day from laying on my side. But all in all it was good.
"A little rustic but pretty cool overall"
This hotel can definitely use some renovations, however it seems to fit in with the surrounding area. Everywhere we went to in tahoe had that rustic, renovation-needed feel. Our room was very comfortable and clean. No complaints there. Its also relatively close to most of the ski mountains there so as far as location goes its great. We didnt eat anything […] at the hotel so cant say anything about that. Parking was very convenient. The clerk at the front desk was polite enough however they charge you a 50$ per night "incidentals" fee when you check in which is later refunded. I found that annoying. Overall though, recommend.
