Alles in allem ein Hotel das keine Wünsche offen lässt. Vom Service bis zum Komfort passt alles. Einzig das Frühstück findet in der Lobby statt und wer den Stadtverkehr nicht mag macht eben die Fenster zu.

Der nationale Flughafen Rios ist nur ein paar hundert Meter entfernt (trotzdem Taxi nehmen!), in der Umgebung ist die Einkaufszone des Stadtteils "Centro" und ein Teil des historischen Stadtkerns. Die Metrostation Cinelandia ist keine 100 Meter entfernt. Europäische Touristen bevorzugen Hotels in Copacabana oder Ipanema, nach Copacabana fährt aber die Metro direkt. Die Fuß-Strecke Hotel - Metro ist auch nachts sicher, das sonsige Umfeld nicht unbedingt (stand Nov. 2011).

Mich hatte an der Villa laurinda die Lage an sich und die Geschlossenheit des Hauses sowie sein Pool auf den Bildern zu einer buchung veranlasst. Alles drei hat sich als exzellent erwiesen: die lage ist abseits auf einem Hügel im ehemaligen und wiederkommenden Künstlerviertel,abseits der Hektik,allerdings braucht man zuweilen ein Taxi. Das Hotel ist wunderschön,der Pool ein Traum,die Mitarbeiter wahnsinnig nett.genau dass hatte ich gesucht.

Tolles Hotel, nur zu weit weg von der Innenstadt. Die Taxen die die Servicekräfte des Hotels ordern sind doppelt so teuer wie die gelben Taxen. Besser an die Strasse gehen und die gelben nehmen. Allerdings besteht das Risiko, dass der Fahrer nichts versteht. Bei den Hotelfahrern erklärt der Mitarbeiter des Hotels dem Fahrer den Weg (darum wohl der doppelte Preis...)

Eines der wenigen Hotels, welches Suitenzimmer mit Balkonen anbietet. Die Aussicht ist herrlich und die Lage für die Copacobana sehr gut. Leider hat das Hotel sehr viele Events, was heisst, dass mit sehr kurzer Frist der Pool auf der Dachterrasse mit Bar oder das Restaurant geschlossen wird. Zudem werden die Events meistens mit lauter Musik begleitet. […] Das Hotel ist sich der Problematik aber bewusst und versucht Lösungen zu finden. Das gesamte Personal ist ausgesprochen freundlich und hilfsbereit. An der Reception wird E und F gesprochen. Die Zimmer werden mässig gut gereinigt, wir hatten jedoch das Gefühl dass die Mitarbeitenden sehr wenig Zeit haben pro Zimmer. Die Früchteecke am Frühstücksbuffet lässt keine Wünsche offen, auch sonst bietet das Buffet eine gute Auswahl. Mehr
"Great hotel"
We were very happy with our stay. The only problem we encountered was that the bar tender at the pool was not willing to alter any drink recipe to make my drink not so strong. I ordered a blue lagoon and it was too strong for me and asked for him to add some pineapple juice to it and he refused and made me order something else. This hotel is nothing special to be rated as a 4 star hotel. It is in a great location one block from copacabana Palace right on the beach and that is the main benefit to staying here. The rooms are a good size and it was clean but very over priced. The bathroom was tiny, especially the shower! The hotel has a roof top pool, but it's small just enough […] to soak in but the views from the roof are great! There is daily breakfast with fresh fruit, pastries, fresh juices, and a few other things which was nice. The front desk staff weren't overly friendly either. There is no concierge service which was a surprise in a city with lots to see and do. Overall I would not stay here again mostly because it is over priced for what you get especially if you pay a little more and stay at copacabana palace. Mehr
The staff were very friendly and helpful. It was near some really good restaurants and I will definitely stay there again. The breakfast had a great choice and a lovely view of the beach topped it off.

We stayed in Rio for 3 nights in their high floor suites. The suites were huge and they had a fantastic view. The only glitch was the breakfast room, it was a bit small, and at peak breakfast hours there was nowhere to sit. "Good value for money!"
The hotel stay was great. Staff were super friendly, the views from the suites are incredible. I've been to Rio a few times and this was by far my best location. The breakfast room was a bit small, and the lifts were a bit small. All in all I'd give the suite experience 5 stars any day.

We stayed here for 10 nights, have stayed in other hotels but this was the best one, would definitely come back to Rio to stay only in this hotel. Very comfortable, relaxed environment, best friendly customer service. Makes me not want to tip anyone else in the world, customer service was a stand out! "Location perfect, ideal stay in Copacabana"
This hotel lived up to every positive comment written. Beautiful room, great service and food. Incrediable views of beach and very, very secure. The only 2 compliants I had was the quality of the beds themselves were poor. For a luxury hotel and given all the other wonderful amenities, the beds are rock hard. the other concern was the outrageous charge […] for Wifi, $27/day!!!! Given free wifi is avaialable throughout Rio, I found this charge outragious plus Porto Bay offers free wifi at their other location, just not in Rio...robbery!!! Its unfortunate because everything else was top notch. From the welcoming sparkling wine, to the special Brazilian coconut treat delivered by the manager to my room that evening to the nightly chocolates on my pillow and the great quality breakfast every morning. Around the corner is a great beauty salon to get a $20 Brazilian Wax performed with surgical perfection, but avoid getting your nails done there. It was a disaster. Centrally located on Copacabana beach, near lots of restaurants, within walking distance to lots of places. City is safe, people everywhere. Hotel stay is friendly and speak english. Included breakfast each day is great. It is the only hotel on Atlantic Ave with balcony views.
Courteous hotel staff. Good location and good view of Copacabana beach from the room. Good beach service. Tours via the hotel were a bit pricey, however I stayed at other hotels in the area and they are they are similar. Good breakfast service.

We stayed here for 4 nights in July 2011 and were extremely happy with the quality and service of the place. Great location right on Copacabana with beach, shops and nightlife on your doorstep. Forget about big chain hotels, this has all you need.

Delicious breakfast, room with balcony overlooking beach and statue of christ, clean and tidy. Only criticism would be the shower temperature control is very sensitive and found it difficult to obtain a consistent and comfortable temperature. Otherwise, barman gave a list of good restaurants within walking distance - excellent hotel.

"Absolutely horrible!"
This is a third world hotel! Very noisy rooms, you can everything through the walls, the noise from the street, and chairs being dragged upstairs. Its like some cheap hotel in Daytona Beach during spring break. The hotel itself is a 1980's nightmare. Don't make the mistake we did, this hotel is the pits! The photos are very misleading.

"Dinner"
Room was clean but next building from the room we stayed was not pleasure to look. Breakfast was good but dinner wasn't good and over charged. Bread was hard and very dried and not freshed at all. They have to improve quality of dinner manue. I did not have lunch so I could not evaluate it.
"Exceeded expectations"
Overall a very pleasant hotel, with a fantastic bilingual staff- very attentive to requests and an overall desire to make the stay special. My only complaint (being picky here) the towels could have been on par with a hotel of this caliber). We had only one major problem with the hotel-one of the tours we went on that they recommended failed to deliver […] on their promised itinerary, however, the hotel staff apologized, refunded our money, and claimed that the tour company has been replaced. All in all, I was very happy with hotel itself (ambiance, room, roof top pool over-looking the famous beach etc.) and staff. Our last hotel in a 15 week trip around the world. Had an executive room with floor to ceiling windows and a fantastic view down Copacabana Beach. We could see Jesus the Redeemer (on a clear day). Small bar in reception area was nice. Pool and bar on roof with great views. Breakfast was ok, typical mix of fresh fruit/juice, breads, cheese, couple of […] hot choices. Great location, felt very safe. Nice churrascaria on the next block. Took hotel car to Jesus and Sugar Loaf Mountain. More expensive than taxi but good quality cars. Would definitely recommend taking hotel car to airport as it was cheaper than taking fixed price taxi. Mehr
"Stay at Porto Bay Rio. Look no further"
I must have spent 3 months looking and reviewing hotels in Rio De Janeiro before deciding on Porto Bay Rio. After the great reviews I read about it, my expectations were high and they exceeded it. We arrived at 9:00AM and were given a room at the highest floor 19 with a great view of Copacaba beach and Corcovado (Christ the redeemer statue). The hotel […] and the rooms had a nice fresh smell and were very clean. One can spend the entire time at the pool area with great view of the beach, Corcovado and sugar loaf mountain. Take bus 511 to go to Sugar loaf mountain and 512 to get back to the hotel. You can take the metro to go to Ipanema beach which is 3 blocks away (take a right at the hotel entrance, walk 3 blocks to the end of the street then one block to the left). Take the metro to Central Osorio station (3 stations away and is the last stop) then walk to Ipanema beach. You can take another bus 132, 512 or 574 and go to Leblon. There is a great and expensive shopping center called (Shopping Leblon) which is next to Jardim Alah. To get ack to the hotel take bus 511, 571 or 583. We heard and read a lot about crime in Rio, we never encountered any. Ipanema and Leblon area is very safe. The hotel seem to have good security the main street (Atlantic) is safe to walk. We walked the entire length of Copacabana beach and also Ipanema beach and never encountered any problems. Initially I was apprehensive about visiting Rio, but I am so glad I did. Its beauty is breathtaking. Porto Bay Rio is just great. No wonder it is rated as number one on Tripadvisor.com Mehr

Great location. Comfortable with nice breakfast. Only 1 complaint. Desk doubles as concierge and they don't do a good job. No confirms or callbacks even when requested. Otherwise, I would go back.

"Great hotel, some issues"
Pros: Fantastic location, less than a block away from some great nightlife. Helpful staff, which were able to give me very useful information. Gorgeous rooms with amazing views (can see all of copacabana and cristo redentor). Cons: Throughout my entire stay the internet connection was extremely unstable, being down for several hours at a time. Since […] the primary purpose of my trip was business, this was absolutely unacceptable, especially for how long the problem persisted. In addition, no proper estimate as to the time it would take to fix the issue left me twiddling my thumbs the entire trip. At the end of my stay I was given a full refund for the hefty Internet fees, but even as a free connection it was disappointing. I was informed that this was an unusual problem and isn't normally an issue. Also, anyone who may happen to have a guest in their room will be charged a guest fee, even if they register. Summary: If the above cons do not bother you, I would highly recommend this hotel. As for myself, I will probably avoid staying here again. Mehr
"Excellent hotel but business traveller beware"
Modern hotel, good service, and great location. But, as a business traveller, I had two problems: (a) The ocean-side is noisy until late night, and (b) the internet did not work well during my entire week of stay. For a business traveller, I recommend a side-view room and have a backup plan for internet use.

This hotel was great. The rooms run a little on the pricy side for what they are but the service and extremely competent staff makes up for it. "Nice hotel with good service."
The hotel is located in the center of the Copacabana beach area. It is clean and modern. The staff is friendly and efficient and virtually all spoke English. I have stayed here a couple of times and never been disappointed. The only negative is that the room service food is mediocre but that isn't too important in the scheme of things.

"Wonderful location with great views and very clean"
The inadequate flushing of the toilets, and no ice machine were the only downside.
"Great place to stay"
Picked this place because it was highly recommended on this site and everyone was right. Rooms were just what you need - comfy beds and super clean. Guest services were great and they never recommended something that you did not ask for. We hated to leave.

In a town that really stresses you out regarding safety, it was great to know you could relax, enjoy, and take in awesome sights just from the hotel. It was quiet with great service...best part of the trip.

The room was nice, and although I'm not a fan of modern decor, I wasn't unhappy with my quarters. Also, I took a big bubble bath using the bath gel they supplied in the big rectangular marble tub. The water pressure for taking a shower was CRAZY. You hardly needed soap or a massage. I slept like a baby in the fairly sizable "twin" bed. I'd say it's […] the size of a junior full size bed. And, the view from the roof is just second to none. You could see Christ the Redeemer from up there. The breakfast buffet? Insane. I'm still trying to figure out why I don't have those options in the morning now that I'm home. Best breakfast I've ever had. If you're watching your weight, you better plan ahead. My only complaint might be that it didn't have enough options if you've got the munchies at night. But that's just me. I need my sleep so I was glad it wasn't a "party" hotel. The Metro was about a two and half block walk (5 minutes). The staff was super friendly, especially the restaurant staff. The manager there would be a millionaire in the US because he was efficient and super aware of everything. I will never forget his leadership, kindness and prompt attention to every detail. オーシャンビューの部屋は、海が見渡せて開放感抜群。屋上のプールも広くないですが、リゾート気分が高まります。テレビは日本語放送も見れました。ホテルの裏手の並びなる小さなカフェお勧めです。

Dette hotellet har meget god beliggenhet på Copacabana, men er altfor dyrt i forhold til hva man får. Det er slett ikke et luksushotell slik prisen kunne antyde. Para vc que quer ir ao rio e ficar num local bacana com tudo o que é de bom perto... esse é o hotel... quarto maravilhoso e café da manha dos deuses. Vale a pena.
